One of the worst bits of “journalism” I’ve found while keyword searching for articles. Someone decided that the best way to report on Laurie Bird’s overdose (or rather, the best way to sell copies) would be to use her grieving father’s words to essentially blame Art for her death. The combination of factors at hand would’ve been nearly impossible for Art to bear even without that type of news report. Hesitating to marry again after the disaster of his first marriage and then having to carry that guilt forever, falling apart in Vienna while making a movie far too close to his soon-to-be reality, having to film the last scene of Bad Timing four days after her funeral—with all of that fresh in his mind on top of the shock and grief of losing her, it’s a wonder that he managed to pull himself out of the darkest period of his life. What a devastating situation for everyone involved, and what a despicable way to describe it in print.
