Why Do You Think Women Like Aegon? I Mean, They Want A R*pist And And It's Just Weird.

Why do you think women like Aegon? I mean, they want a r*pist and and it's just weird.

I honestly have no idea how he has stans lmao. I understand liking a character who's a rapist, I like Ramsay Bolton and Euron Greyjoy as characters; I think they're interesting antagonists. But it's one thing to enjoy a character as a villain and a completely other thing to support, make excuses for, and deny the actions of a character.

Aegon is sympathetic to an extent; he had a fairly difficult childhood, with a father who was distant at best and a mother who physically abused him. However, he has an established pattern of dealing with his issues in destructive ways: bullying Aemond as a child and assaulting women and dealing in child trafficking as an adult. He's very much a textbook tragic backstory villain.

The issue with his portrayal on HOTD is that they went to far in trying to make him sympathetic. Hess even tried to excuse his raping of women. There's a deeper issue in HOTD's writing, just like there's a deeper issue with Aegon's fan base.

There are people with rape kinks, so I could see the attraction there for people who are into that. However, Aegon's stans aren't just indulging a kink, they're actively defending a rapist, so I don't believe that's the reason.

I'm not a psychologist, but I do know that often attraction to rapists/criminals in general is a symptom of some mental health things. I'm not saying that everyone who stans Aegon has a mental illness, but it is a thing in real life. I don't know if there is a connection there and I don't really want to speculate so I'll just leave that there lol.

Anyway anon, I wish I could answer your question in a real way, but the truth is I don't know. There's a lot of layers to the human mind, and however Aegon stans rationalize loving him so much isn't something I understand. I know Tom Glynn-Carney's looks probably factored into it, so maybe it's just an extension of the whole babygirl trend in fandoms.

So that person clearly missed the part in the book where Aegon II wants to kill or castrate Aegon III. Either that or they didn't read the book at all, which is what I'm more inclined to think.

Also Rhaenyra literally offered peace terms that would spare Aegon, his siblings, and his children and he rejected them. Aegon is the one who celebrated Aemond killing Lucerys and wanted to build a statue in his honor. Like this person so obviously knows nothing about their supposed fav it's embarrassing lmao

I saw a tiktok comparing Paul Atreides to Daenerys and it made me want to gouge out my eyes and break my phone.

I just don't understand how Dany and Paul are comparable in any way. For one thing, Dany's ending in GOT only happened because of bad writing. There's no foreshadowing, no buildup, or reason for her fall.

Disclaimer: I haven't actually read the Dune books yet, just watched the movies and read Wikipedia stuff. So anyone who has read Dune, please please please correct me if I'm misunderstanding things.

From what I saw in the movies and read from secondhand sources, Paul was never meant to be a hero. Sure, he was a good kid, but his arc isn't that of a fallen hero. The moment Paul chose to exploit the fremen and the Bene Gesserit's false prophecy, he solidified himself as anything but a hero. He was set on vengeance and survival.

Paul is a fascinating character, but he's not a hero in any way, and wasn't at any point in his story (to my understanding).

Dany is a hero, whether you like it or not. From book/season one, she's been protecting those weaker than her to the best of her ability. She sacrifices her own desires and ambitions for the sake of others.

...this Mother of Dragons, this Breaker of Chains, is above all a rescuer. (ADWD - Tyrion VI)

Dany chooses to prioritize the innocent and the oppressed in her mission. Paul chooses to lead a holy war that will kill billions of innocents.

They're not comparable characters, because they're very different archetypes and communicate very different things from the authors. Dany is an underdog and someone who fights for justice while maintaining her gentleness. Paul is someone who basically embodies "for the greater good", sacrificing billions for the future.

Dany is written to be a hero, Paul is not. Dany is only turned from being a hero because of bad writing and sexism. Paul's descent is well written and clearly foreshadowed. Paul's story is what D&D wanted to gaslight the viewers into believing Dany's was. Unfortunately, that seems to have worked for certain parts of this fandom. Also, the poster had a Sansa pfp, so I think it's easy to tell why they view Dany this way.

Paul and Dany's characters aren't even in the same ballpark as each other. Comparing them is stupid.

Yeah everything they did with the Velaryons sucks. It's another manifestation of the shitty writing in the show. Because we don't see anything of their characters, we have to draw from little context clues like what they're doing in the background.

So yeah, we can get little things like they feel loyalty to their family and Rhaenyra, but that's pretty much it. From deleted scenes we learn their relationships are a lot warmer than they seem to be, but those were deleted so how much do they mean?

The writers don't seem to understand how to write consistent characters, so I'm a bit concerned with how they'll portray the twins in season two, but it does appear they have more scenes.

However, I will say that they do have more of a connection to Rhaenyra than the others at court since Rhaenyra was their stepmother for six years. We don't actually know how long Baela lived with them on Dragonstone, but we do know that Rhaena was there the entire time jump. Rhaena at least has an amicable relationship with Rhaenyra, as we see from their fairly warm interactions. Rhaena became her cupbearer with no questions asked, so it was at least implied if not outright told to her that she had a place of honor in Rhaenyra's court. Both she and Baela are allowed in Rhaenyra's councils. So yeah, it's implied they have some form of relationship.

This shot is from after Viserys reaffirms Lucerys as heir of Driftmark. Notice how Rhaena is smiling and looks pleased with this.

Now, according to TG stans, Rhaena should be furious, fuming, if you will. She's just been "robbed of her birthright" according to them, and she has her evil stepmother, Rhaenyra, to blame.

So tell me, why is Rhaena apparently happy? In fact, why were she and Baela happy to be engaged to Luke and Jace?

For reference, these are their faces when the engagements are announced. They're happy with them and continue to be happy about them in future scenes.

Now, what do these reactions indicate about the characters' feelings? Are they feeling cheated, betrayed, and angry with Rhaenyra and her sons? No.

Rhaena and Baela are not the heirs to Driftmark, they know this, so they don't feel entitled to the Seastone Chair. They, at the very least, care for the Velaryon boys, and feel, again at the very least, loyalty towards Rhaenyra. These are facts in the show; TG stans are simple delusional and have zero media literacy.
