[Ravnica Battlemap]Rakdos GuildGate 32x56

As laid out in the Guildpact, the Rakdos guild was intended to fill roles concerning entertainment, mining, and manual labor. Some argue that any effort to give a demonic cult a respectable role in society was doomed to failure, but the cult remains part of Ravnica's social fabric nevertheless. The Guildpact prohibits the cult's extermination, and its entertainments - even the ones that are dark and destructive - hold broad appeal. From rowdy mobs who love to see the cult skewer the powerful elites to decadent socialites who come to the Rakdos for illicit amusements, most of Ravnica's people don't really want the Rakdos to go away, as much as they might publicly protest otherwise when the ugly side of the cult shows itself.

The Scab Clan is made up of a variety of races, including minotaurs, centaurs, ogres, and goblins. Scab clan warriors despise pretentiousness and false airs. They believe that the body is the outward form of the spirit and that the more maimed the appearance, the more authentic the warrior. The Scab have engulfed or destroyed several clans in recent years, but the leader of the clan, a corpulent giant known as Narbulg Nine Fingers, has not yet designed to challenge Borborygmos or the Burning Tree.

[Ravnica Battlemap]Firemind Vessel 32x56

Before the War of the Spark, Nicol Bolas slew Niv-Mizzet. Although the battle was brief, the Firemind mounted an impressive assault that demonstrated his immense thaumaturgical, mental, and physical might. Nicol Bolas and Niv-Mizzet engaged each other in epic combat that destroyed large portions of the city. The two dragons fought using a staggering array of magical, physical, and aerial attacks in which both drew blood. Bolas was even surprised when his mind-shattering touch could not penetrate the Firemind's mental barriers. As the fight wore on, Niv sensed his eventual defeat. After Niv collapsed a huge chunk of the city onto Bolas at a Simic zonot, Bolas emerged in a dark sphere of death and destruction, causing Niv to experience fear for the first time. Contemplating this strange feeling, Niv deemed it unworthy of the Firemind and brushed it aside as he roared in defiance and leaped toward his impending death. In the end, Niv-Mizzet’s skull and charred bones were all that remained.

However, the Firemind had been preparing for this. Together with Ugin, Niv-Mizzet made preparations to preserve his ghost in a device of his design. The little silver box with delicate filigree, sparking gears, and shimmering crystals could project Niv's essence above it and would preserve his ghost for at least a hundred years. With Sarkhan Vol's assistance, the box was delivered to the Meditation Plane for safekeeping under Ugin's watch. The Firemind provided clues for Jace, Vraska, and Ral Zarek to bring him back.

[Ravnica Battlemap]Zonot Three - Navika 32x56

Deep within Vannifar's home zonot of Zonot Three lies the laboratory of Navika, the hub of the Guardian Project. Lit by bioluminescent glow, the lab was built into, or possibly grown in the shape of, an enormous nautilus shell. Even within the guild, Navika has a mysterious and slightly sinister reputation as a place where Vannifar's elite biomancers push the boundaries of the law, biology, and ethics in the name of adaptation.

Most Simic have never even seen Navika, and even fewer have been inside. The work of the Guardian Project, authorized by Prime Speaker Vannifar, is the creation of increasing numbers of sapient humanoid hybrids intended to form an army of highly evolved soldiers. Each of these hybrids is a different fusion of humanoid characteristics with a mix of traits from other species.

[Ravnica Battlemap]Baan's Chamber 32x56

In the War of the Spark, Dovin Baan guarded the Immortal Sun for Bolas. During a fight, he was overpowered by Chandra Nalaar, who turned out to be the Dimir guildmaster Lazav in disguise, using an Izzet League flamethrower. Lazav threw throwing stars that hit Dovin in the eyes and blinded him.
