I Think One Of My Issues With The Adrien Is Oblivious Fanon (especially After Puppeteer 2) Is That It's

I think one of my issues with the Adrien is Oblivious fanon (especially after Puppeteer 2) is that it's never talked about in the context of Adrien growing as a person. Adrien's emotional development was stunted due to his isolation. But instead of him establishing boundaries with Chloe or understanding himself it's almost always "Adrien realizes Marinette has a crush on him".

I do not have the words to explain just how Absolutely Irrelevant romance is when talking about Adrien's psychological development. Dating is the least important reason Adrien should develop his emotional awareness.

We could talk about Adrien becoming consciously aware of his emotional needs. Or opening up to Nino about his feelings. Or coming out of his shell with the rest of the class. Or him Canonically figuring out Ladybug's identity.

But no. Adrien is constantly kept from finding out Marinette's crush by literally everyone who knows about it. So Adrien is oblivious.

i think it’s safe to assume wishmaker specifically turned you into a childhood dream that you grew out of once you realized it wasn’t possible

I need someone to defend the "Adrien is NOT a sentimonster theory in light of this evidence and PLEASE tag me in it.

I don't even agree with how astruc explained some stuff, that doesn't make that whole lot of sense and could be refuted with what has been shown on the show or specials.

His insistence on the plausibility of the pro-senti theory (at least the mechanics of ot based on the people's questions) kind of scares me. I know he probably wants to defend and correct the specifics of certain points in the show with what he and crew intended and with how they are operating the rules (sorry it sounds confusing but I hope I'm understood).

I really hate the idea of Adrien being a sentimonster.

So….I missed some tweets from Astruc’s sentimonster thread that might alleviate the discourse I keep seeing;

Question regarding whether or not sentimonsters could reproduce thead:

Regarding the ability to sense a sentimonster—the peacock wielder can only sense an amok (the object used to control), not the sentimonster itself (i.e. Nathalie/Gabriel wouldn’t be able to sense Chat/Adrien is a sentimonster under their control).

Additionally, he has frequently referred to Adrien being perfect in the past, so this response parallels that/the situation with Marinette.

i don’t think marinette’s decision to reveal her identity (or any other information) is based on trust. marinette doesn’t trust alya more than chat noir. she was worried about losing alya, because she’d already lost luka by keeping secrets and she couldn’t handle the idea of losing her best friend.

she couldn’t handle losing chat noir either, of course, and she knows that, but she doesn’t think that’s at risk. chat noir, right now, is in the same category as her parents: they’ll still love her even if she keeps secrets. she doesn’t need to reveal herself to maintain the relationship. and i don’t think she’s entirely wrong on that - her parents will still love her. they won’t leave. and she can’t leave them to protect them, either. her parents know that, too - that marinette loves them and needs them, even if she doesn’t show it. this gets a bit dicier with chat, who doesn’t know that, but marinette thinks he does.

but just because she doesn’t have to worry about losing her parents doesn’t mean she’s not hurting them, too. it just means they are secure in themselves and their role in marinette’s life.

so i’m really interested in seeing them get akumatized and why they get akumatized. even if her parents don’t find out her identity (which i still think is a possibility), if their akumatization is marinette related, that opens up a lot of questions for marinette to start asking about the relationships she takes for granted. she might not act on it right away, but it plants another seed towards marinette eventually realizing that this secret identity business is not sustainable
