“only karens ask for refunds” is pro-corporation propaganda. if they don’t give me what i want they’re giving me my money back and that doesn’t make me an angry middle-aged karen harpy, you’re just cucked by stupid reddit memes
Non-Human’s aren’t worth much
Today, I’m gonna talk to you guys about a narrative device / story trope called “What Measure Is a Non-Human?” This device refers to the choice a creator might make to question the distinction between human and non-human. In terms of censorship, it refers to how, especially in children’s media, you can inflict worse fates on explicitly non-human characters than human ones without the people funding your project trying to axe your story. It’s basically an excuse to rack up a body count without there actually being a body count because the things being “killed” are not human and are, therefore, not really being killed. You can’t kill something that’s a thing.
Thomas Astruc has worked with children’s action/adventure shows for years. He knows about this story device, he has even taken advantage of it. Aeon and Sentibug were killed on-screen and Miraculous Ladybug is still rated TV-Y7 or the equivalent in most countries. In contrast, Batman: Mask of Phantasm, an animated kids’ superhero movie, where human characters die nonviolently on-screen, is rated PG.
Even in the case of the Special, Aeon’s death was undone almost instantly after. This story trope is often called a Disney Death, where a character can die and it won’t affect the rating as long as it gets undone quickly enough through a fakeout or resurrection. Even so, Aeon was in her robot form when it happened, to make sure her non-humanness was explicit. In contrast, Sentibug’s death doesn’t get undone, meaning a Sentimonster’s life is worth even less than a robot’s in the eyes of the arbiters of the Miraculous Ladybug universe.
In other words, Sentimonsters are considered explicitly enough “non-human” that they can be killed irreversibly on-screen without it affecting the rating. They cannot be killed. They do not have lives that can be taken away. They are not human.
This means that, if the writers then turned around and revealed one of their main characters to be a Sentimonster, an explicitly non-human creature that can be killed with no out-of-universe repercussions (aka, a rating bump) because they are not really alive, then he isn’t human in a metatextual sense. If Adrien is meant to preserve his worth as a human being or as close to human being as possible while being a Sentimonster, every single other Sentimonster needs to be treated as fully human and their deaths have to be undone.
You know, with how Risk is emphasizing how Chat Noir isn’t really needed to fight akumas as much anymore, Alya’s increased role as Marinette’s support (both Miraculous-wise and emotionally) and how Gabriel’s trying to send Adrien away, but ended up sending Felix in his place… I’m wondering whether there may actually be something to the “Adrien going rogue” idea. Not in terms of him being pissed at Ladybug, but in terms of him doing his own, independent thing to try and stop Shadowmoth. Risk was talking about how Adrien always “does what he’s told” and saying that he needs to cut his strings, stand up for himself, etc.
timetagger: tHe FuTuRe Is NoT sEt In StOnE
chat blanc: if the adrinetteladynoir ship sails the future is doomed, it cannot be fixed, fuck you
I’m so glad that we’re finally getting payoff for the “using multiple miraculouses at once can make you lose your mind” thing from Kwamibuster.
Like. Gabriel isn’t acting himself anymore. He’s growing more and more erratic. He seems to be having difficulty keeping the composure that used to be so integral to his character.
I can’t get over how sad it is that Adrien felt like he couldn’t tell anyone about how upset he was, not even Nino. He’s been so conditioned by his upbringing to believe that nobody cares about his feelings or what he has to say that he just… doesn’t even attempt to tell even his closest friends.
It’s nice that he told Marinette, but the fact that he only told her because A. She prompted him on the subject and B. He was affected by akuma magic is just… sad.
He saw “telling a close friend of mine that I’m upset at my father” as a RISK. That was a RISK to Adrien, and something he needed an akuma to force him to do. I can’t get over that.
something something about how ladybug may be paris' hero but chat noir is constantly ladybug's hero
You do realize that despite how AWFUL the situation is.
Ladybug and Chat noir both know Felix was the one that betrayed them.
So if they want to find out who Shadowmoth is. They just need to find Felix.
And Adrien KNOWS how to do that.
Shadowmoth revealing to Ladybug that he had the miraculous just may have been the biggest mistake.
The way this one hug is reminiscent of so many of the moments they shared together
notice how when everyone else had fallen adrien was still fighting
this boy is a hero inside and out and like this is not even out of the blue. in origins he was the catalyst for ladybug becoming the hero she is. in heroes day he was the one telling ladybug that they will never lose as long as they're together. in miraculer he kept fighting with broken ribs and saved the bee miraculous while he was at it. and now he keeps on throwing himself at strike back, even when he gets knocked out and thrown on his behind. his love for ladybug never wavered even when he was angry with her. he keeps telling her and everyone else that they can keep on going. adrien agreste is at his most feminine coded when he keeps on being a symbol for hope, despite having the most reasons of any character in this entire show to not have any.
Chat Noir saying “My Lady” can really be something so cathartic
they threw the sentimonsters into the sun and killed them without a second thought, and they made félix watch, but yes, tell me how the sentitwins are a good idea
The lesson for this season really should be that Ladybug and Chat should trust each other completely, since no matter what, he's the one who always stays.
Appreciation post for Felix being a really interesting character who, despite being the “calm collected cool and confident” trope, shows a lot of signs of strong emotion that really humanize him and remind us that he’s still just a child caught up on all this bs like all the others
Him being legitimately terrified/traumatized:
Easily startled/on edge all day:
His hesitance at accepting a miraculous (after Ladybug asks “can I trust you?”):
Very real excitement at seeing a kwami:
His sadness at seeing the sentimonsters get thrown into the sun:
I don’t know, moments like these just give Felix so much depth imo, he’s so interesting.
augh…. the ending of s4 finale ending was everything…. ladybug admitting that she was lying to him, that she was pushing him away. they both know that they’re not doing good. they both know that their relationship isn’t good right now. but they’re still going to try. they’re going to do everything they can to Make it good. they’re not giving up on each other. they made a silent promise to work on it, to be better, to not let the distance between them happen again. obsessed.
The fact that they were switching between Adriens bedroom and Gabriel’s office for the last few minutes…. Like these were happening at the same time IN THE SAME HOUSE. SHES FREAKING OUT ABOUT HW GETTING THE MIRACULOUS WHICH IS HAPPENING DOWNSTAIRS
"Chat Noir is a slut" jokes are funny, but like, I'm gonna need everyone to recognize that what Nino said and did at one of his lowest points in the show is not indicative of any actual feelings that he holds toward Chat Noir, and holding him to that episode is really getting not-funny for people who like him.
LUKA COUFFAINE, TRUE MVP OF THE EPISODE
Literally can’t imagine Luka being anything but a public menace doing bike parkour on his way to the bakery, judging by how he busted down the door
