Coming back to a Safehouse after an encounter with the undead always was a relief. The two men could come back from terrifying battles with the undead, covered in dirt and zombie blood to find shelter. Knowing that they had a safe haven in this dark new world was comforting.

Shawn had basically dragged an exhausted Grant Cohen through the front door. To say they were tired was an understatement. Having spent the day fighting just to survive. He dropped Grant onto a couch and sat down next to him, catching his breath.

“S-Shawn..” Grant mumbled wearily from beside him. Skin pale and sweaty. There were heavy bags under his eyes. “D-Do you think that we have a chance..?”

“Of course we do.. there’s nothing we can’t handle together. As long as we stick together we’ll be fine.” The older man said in a soft reassuring voice. Sensing the fear and uncertainty that Grant was feeling. He would quell those anxieties. Just like always.

“Y-You promise?” That voice barely a whisper. Grant knew he needed to be brave.. but it was just so hard. They’ve seen so many horrible things in just a few days. He was so tired. Too weak. Barely able to hold a gun straight.

“I promise. Now get some rest.” He grabbed a blanket out of his backpack and put it over Grant. “You need it more than I do.” He gently ruffled his hair and got up from the couch, and headed into the small kitchen. Grabbing two bottles of water from the fridge. They’d been lucky to have found such a well-stocked house.

Shawn put the bottles on the table and poured himself and Grant a glass. Quietly drinking in the safety of the building. He was glad to have found this place. Maybe they could stay here a little longer than just one night. Rather than what was originally planned. Grant did need the rest after all, and his safety was important.

They’d be safe here for the time being. Shawn knew it.
