Inktober 2018 : Day 3 - Fineliners And Grey PensI Drew Sweetpea This Way Last Year, So Here Is His Best

Inktober 2018 : Day 3 - fineliners and grey pens I drew Sweetpea this way last year, so here is his best friend; Coriander! She belongs to a holly tree that grows right next to his oak, so they see each other every day. As an evergreen, her ear frills don't fall off like his do, but she does sometimes grow berries under them.

Inktober 2018 : Day 1 - Fountain Pentel When Nettle loses her temper at school, the sports field is the biggest casualty. It’s finally time for Inktober, my favourite art challenge of the year! I didn’t have access to my scanner for the first three days, but I was doing the drawings. This year I wanted to try to use some of my less cooperative pens, so this was done with my Fountain Pentel, a bizarre soft nib pen that isn’t a brush but sort of acts like one. I think it’s designed for writing kanji? It splatters a lot when I use it, but it also makes some really nice, scrappy sorts of lines. I think if I keep practicing I’ll be able to do something really good with it.

In years when he grows catkins under his ear frills, Sweetpea can sometimes end up with acorns there too! They get pretty uncomfortable at full size, but he’s too proud of them to care. He’ll spend the whole of Autumn showing them off to anyone who will look and admiring them in puddles, then plant them out with great care.

I don’t often have nightmares (in the sense of dreams that have a real feeling of terror rather than just horror imagery) but I do often see monsters in my dreams. Lately I’ve been doing watercolour sketches of some of the ones I remember. In related news, I think I’ve finally got the hang of wet-on-wet watercolour painting. (The pictures have captions if you like flavour text.)

Now that the weather is colder, how about some Winter weather spirits? The originals of these were my Christmas/Holiday cards for family and friends last year, and I’ve printed six of them to make a little set. The cards are blank inside and come with blue colour-splash envelopes to match the Winter theme and six snowflake stickers for sealing or decoration. If you’d like to send tiny Winter spirits to your pals this year, they are now up in my shop! https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/635966163/winter-weather-greeting-cards-set-of-6
