Cas Fell First During Season 5. He Was Very Interested In Dean During Season 4, But He Hadn't Fallen
Cas fell first during season 5. He was very interested in Dean during season 4, but he hadn't fallen in love yet. Dean thought of him as a really close friend up until season 8/9, and that's when his feelings changed, with s big emphasis on when Cas was killed by April.

I love this scene because Dean was trying so hard to still seem pissed off at Cas, but he finally cracked and you could hear and see how worried he had actually been.

And I find it interesting how Dean says "WE were worried" because honestly, Sam didn't seem that worried. Curious. But not worried. He was actually trying to comfort Dean and was saying things like "It's Cas. He disappears all the time. I'm sure he's fine." Meanwhile Dean was the one calling Cas everyday and leaving him voice-mails and wringing his hands. "We were worried" no baby, YOU were worried.
“ Jack and his two dads!!” NO!!!!! SAM IS HIS DAD TOO!!!!! THAT’S STATED MULTIPLE TIMES!!!! SAM WAS THE FIRST OUT OF HIM AND DEAN TO GIVE JACK THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT!!! THE FIRST TO GIVE HIM LOVE!!!! HE SAW HIMSELF IN JACK!!! HE GAVE HIM THE WORDS AND SUPPORT HE DIDN’T GET!!! AHHH!
I am thinking about Helmeppo.
I am thinking about the fact, that we don't know what Morgan was like, before Kuro's plan was set into action. Was he a hot shot? Easily enraged? Maybe, probably. But there is a chance, that he wasn't the abusive monster, he turned out to be, when power went to his head, when he started to believe that he was the greatest Marine to ever live, when he started to believe that he was 'justice'
And let's explore that for a second.
Let's imagine that Morgan was a bit of an asshole, but not the worst version of himself.
One day, Helmeppo says goodbye to his father as he sails out so sea, and a little while later, someone he doesn't truly recognize returns. Someone who looks like his father, someone who acts like his father - in certain ways - but someone who is just so much worse and who suddenly expects so much more.
And then the years pass and his father becomes more and more obsessed with this thought, this idea, this apparent fact(?) that he was the one who captured the great captain Kuro. It becomes an obsession, something that he thinks about every day.
And then he gets beaten by a boy in a straw hat, Helmeppo joins the marines.
And a short while thereafter, someone else joins the marines as well. A man who prides himself in the power of hypnosis. Goes by the name of Jango.
And now, let's just imagine what it would be like if Helmeppo ever found out, that it was Jango who planted that thought of greatness in his father's brain
once in a while i’ll see someone act like sam had a good (or even spoiled) childhood just because he had dean taking care of him and all i can think is, are we talking about the same sam? the sam who wanted to get away from his family so badly as a child that his imaginary friend, a real being with his best interest at heart, was encouraging him to run away? the sam who was so miserable at home that the times he was able to get away became all of his best memories? that’s the sam we’re saying had a good childhood?
dean may have done his best to care for sam and sam may express a lot of appreciation for that in hindsight, but it doesn’t change the fact that a kid is never going to be able to be a good primary caregiver to another kid. dean wasn’t a father or mother to sam; mary was sam’s mom who was gone for good and john was sam’s dad who was gone most of the time and sam was a kid raised without real parental nurturance or really any kind of consistent support from an adult in his life. he may have had a brother who tried to fill that gap, but that was always going to be a sisyphean task for a fellow child. dean being the closest thing he had to a good parent doesn’t make his childhood better, it just means he didn’t have a good parent in his life at all because dean was never a parent, much less a good one.
pretending dean did a great job raising sam and gave him a good childhood isn’t any fairer to dean than it is to sam, because the point isn’t that dean did a good job, the point is that dean never should have been given that job in the first place. he was a child with far more weight on his shoulders than he could reasonably be expected to handle and sam was a child abandoned by the person who actually should have been caring for him. both of them were neglected by the only family they had left, and both of them suffered for it.
One of my favorite Destiel moments is definitely when Dean stares dreamily into the distance and calls Cas a "weird, dorky, little guy."
