Recovery;a Return To A Normal State Of Health, Mind, Or Strength.

recovery; a return to a normal state of health, mind, or strength.

This is how i have been since i can remember. I can never remember a time before i was very picky with what i ate, before i was revolted by most foods to the point i could only eat a few. There is nothing for me to return to, because i have never known life without this eating disorder.

i will never have a normal and healthy relationship with food. i will never be able to go to a restaurant and order something new, just because i want to try it. i will never be fully ‘‘recovered’‘ from this.

and that’s okay to me. i don’t find this a bad thing, not really. i’m ok with how things are, but i know i’m not healthy and i have no desire to change, but if i did, i wouldn’t focus on trying to recover, or trying new different foods. i would just worry about making sure my body gets all the stuff it’s supposed to, and i wouldn’t mind if i had to eat vitamins daily for the rest of my life for that.

i think a lot of people don't understand that most "picky" eaters actually have heavily restricted diets, and it is no more possible for them to eat the foods they don't "like" than it is for someone who's genuinely allergic or intolerant. my girlfriend would be considered a "picky" eater by most, but the thing is, i've seen what happens when she tries something she doesn't like: she ends up gagging, runs to the bathroom, and if she's lucky, she just spits out the bite without throwing up everything in her stomach in the process.

it's not a matter of "choosiness" as the term "picky" would imply—she genuinely can't eat those foods even on a physical level. it's sensory triggers relating to taste and texture that prevent her from eating these foods, but the physical symptoms they result in are just as severe as someone with an allergy or intolerance. just like them, she would starve if she didn't have foods she could eat, because it's not a matter of choice for her any more than it is for them.

most "picky" eaters can't just force down the things they don't like, because it's physically impossible. and yet, their dietary restrictions are not considered real restrictions by most, just because they're caused by sensory triggers rather than an innate physical inability to properly digest said foods. it's ridiculous, and very ableist to neurodivergents, among whom sensory based dietary restrictions are very common.

breakdown cancelled, guy in [shop redacted] gave me a discount on my plants ‘just cause’ and then didn’t scan half my other shit either. i was like ‘oh you missed–’ and he goes ‘discount innit’. i think maybe he just hated his job but also possibly humans are good and long story short i’m not mentally ill any more.

STOP the fucking song and back it up to the start we didn't think about the right thing at the right time our head music video is all messed up what the fuck guys come on

“Picky eaters are made, not born.”

Uh-huh, no, tell me you don’t understand sensory disorders without telling me you don’t understand sensory disorders…
