Today vs. 3.5ish months ago! It was fun to mess around a bit with the colour overlays, and I tried to exaggerate the shapes more this time around :]

[2024 edit: just to clarify, the lines near edgeworth's pointed finger were supposed to mimic those specific, dramatic backgrounds in superhero comic panels. however, looking back now, I'm conscious that they could be seen as somewhat resembling the radiating rays of the rising sun flag. and I'm making this connection because I recently discovered that this symbolism has been used in some official capcom artwork (for dgs, not the main trilogy, but the point still stands, considering I've played both). I wanted to make it clear that it wasn't my aim to represent that imagery in this piece, even if it has been in some of the artwork I've seen. I'm always striving to be more critical of my past art choices, and as such, I want to be more careful in the future. I hope all is understandable and clear!]

🌱 Dragon Slayers: Evolution 🌱

This took a long time, but it was so fun to practice drawing full bodies (and cats 😭) for once! I actually sketched out the concept for these 3 pieces months ago— and recently decided to commit to proper drawings :D

[These pieces were for pure nostalgia, and to revisit media that was part of my artistic journey as a tween! I know the series has major flaws— the treatment of female characters, tasteless fanservice and poor relationship writing, to name a few. I despise these aspects, of course.

I want to make it clear that I drew this art to explore something that shaped my younger self's work. I don't condone Mashima's writing choices, nor did I even keep up with the later arcs of the story and the spin-off(s). Thank you for reading!]

The colour accents include Gumshoe's green coat, Larry's orange jacket, Wright's blue and Edgeworth's magenta suit jackets, Maya's purple haori/beads and Mia's yellow scarf.

Gumshoe is grinning, right hand over Larry's shoulder, left wiping away a happy tear. Larry lays his right hand on Wright's back, and the other ruffles Wright's hair. He has a wobbly smile, eyes brimming.

Wright's back is partially turned towards the viewer. He grins radiantly, holding Edgeworth's arms like he's just pulled away from a close hug. He looks back at Larry. Edgeworth has his left hand pressed on the front of Wright's shoulder, the other over Wright's back. He smiles tearfully as he looks to his left.

Maya hangs her left hand on Edgeworth's upper arm, her right cheek squashed against his shoulder. She's smiling, open-mouthed, right eye squeezed shut. Mia's left hand rests over Maya's waist as she hugs her loosely. She smiles serenely. Her eyes and body glow in the purple-blue shade of her Magatama necklace, which gives off abstract swirls with an overlay effect.

One day someone is going to hug you so tight that all of your broken pieces will stick back together.
