He didn't actually meant to insult his kid, that "my little disgusting abomination" means to them something like "My sunshine" it's like when parents call you sweet names, for big dragons like Alexander it's a alot different, its harsh, but for good intentions, that probably means to get kid being use to harsh words so in future, because there will be someone who mean to insult him on purpose, he will take that like it's nothing, so Alexander calling him like that it's not malicious at all
