John Darnielle says it's based on a time in his life where he was addicted to hard drugs and he was friends with a lot of sex workers and heroin addicts, and it was an environment where if you fell asleep they would steal your stuff, but if someone tried to attack you they would be willing to die protecting you. And it's a song about how most of those friends of his are dead now, and the years they spent squatting in abandoned buildings and stealing their food.

It's my favorite song by them and it will make you feel things.

I just listened to it and definitely makes me feel things even if It doesn’t fully resonate with me.

The line “attach c-4 where you must

Disappear in a cloud of dust” reminded me of Timothy stoker from tma though and that really made me sad :(

Homestuck is about a video game that is actually a universe creation engine. The players need to achieve godhood, become their best selves, and stop an interplanetary war in order to enter the universe they've created as gods.

The game has various "sessions", think of them like game servers, and the troll characters are the creators of our universe whose session/playthrough of the game went terribly wrong.

The comic is absurd whenever it can be. Betty Crocker is an interdimensional genocidal space witch. Insane Clown Posse becomes the president (yes both of them. The first duel presidents).

Our villain is someone who basically hacked the game to become a time traveling god demon.

It has some of the most profoundly written character moments I have ever encountered in fiction, a fascinating system where your personality and your divine destiny define your superpowers, and it defies both genre and medium. It's full of traditional comic pages, but also animations, mini games, and more.

Look up "Homestuck Ulysses" on YouTube and give that top video a watch maybe.

I watched it. Yea the comic seems fun but I’m not prepared for it to become my whole personality like tma has. I swear that thing as a death grip on me and I didn’t even get a chance to get my nails in the dirt before it dragged me into the darkness with the release of Protocol. Maybe in like 2-8 years when I’m over protocol I’ll give it a read.

Shout out to the fact that my theatre teacher let the ensemble peeps name and create their ensamble characters and I was a police officer

Since I was a police officer and I have both tma and mechanisms brainrot as well as just like Jessica Law’s music, I decided to name my character after her. So now I just have this police officer persona that happens to have the name Jessica Law. She’s an officer of the law, with the last name law. She loves the law and punishing people she perceives as evil. She once threatened a coworker because he ate her sandwich so I wouldn’t give her too much credit.

She also has a ‘close female goth friend’ and a husband who’s ‘off on business’. One of her coworkers keeps trying to hit up her ‘close female goth friend’. She’s also a suck up to the chief of police who had like 5 different joke names.
