I Hope They Add More Of Ellie And Tommys Relationship (pre-golf).
I hope they add more of Ellie and Tommy’s relationship (pre-golf).
Were they friends? Did he step back into an uncle roll? Did they drift apart as she drifted apart from Joel? Or did Joel make him keep tabs on Ellie during those two years?
I’ve always wondered if Tommy knew about the estrangement. I imagine he did, but he never mentioned it all. It kinda seemed like Mariah didn’t know about it, she tried to talk to Ellie about the bar incident the morning after and it gave off the impression that she didn’t know anything was wrong with them
anon, I want you to know that when I read this, I had just finished a fic where there was a bunch of Tommy and Ellie bonding, so I do wholeheartedly agree. also I thank you for calling That pre-golf :)
but yes, I agree! I seriously hope Tommy gets back into his uncle roll! he was so good to Sarah from the little bits we got in the show, and we know Ellie is sassy. mans would have a BLAST sassing the shit out of Joel with her. I just know it. I really hope we get more of them in the show, I love show Tommy with my whole heart, I would LOVE to see him and Ellie bond :D
I imagine they were friends, maybe not like bestie level, but I imagine they would've been friends. mmm I could see both! I could see him drifting from Ellie once she cuts ties with Joel cause for all she knows, he's relaying stuff back to him. and I could see Joel asking him to keep tabs on her - if her and Tommy did stay close. but I don't imagine Tommy telling Joel everything. if there's something major happening with her, I could see him telling Joel. but if there's not, I could see him telling Joel she was doing just fine. if he ever got questioned, I imagine he'd just tell them they needed to work it out lmao
I also imagine he knew! 1, cause the guitar strings flashback made it seem like he knew something. the way he was telling Ellie she needed to talk to Joel, more than the "hi"s and "bye"s she was giving him, I think he knew at least a little bit. and 2, I feel it was pretty obvious to those who knew them? so, Tommy knows Joel and knows how he is with a kid, right? him all of a sudden not being seen in public with her (even if it is Ellie doing it, I know Joel wouldn't have pushed her, so he would've started avoiding her to a certain degree in public once they actual did drift)? red flags. something is up. and also with Joel confiding in Tommy about what really happened at the hospital? I can totally see him going to Tommy, trying to figure what's best for this kid. I don't think Maria knew and if she did, she knew how to not show it to everyone. but yeah, at the bar, she didn't seem to realize they were fighting, so I really don't think she knew about it. I think it was just Tommy tbh and maybe some of Ellie's friends?

Hiya
I was reading through some of your asks and I saw one person say it was out-of-character for Ellie to move into the garage, and I just want to give my 2 cents on why I personally disagree.
I think a lot of people tend to forget that Ellie has only known the FEDRA schools. Shes exclusively lived in dorms and had to be independent her whole life. So she’s never had a family or any domestic life. So it would pry be weird for her to move in with Joel and be a family unit like that. She doesn’t know what that is.
I would of loved if they did live together and been a father/daughter duo but i understand why that didn’t happen
hi!
I agree! I sometimes forget that she's only known fedra schools her whole life, too. it does make sense for her to move out so quickly now, even if it's not what we want :( I would have loved for them to stay together, but yeah, it makes sense why we didn't get it. I do wonder, though, if they're gonna change it for the show. since they have made joel and ellie different than in the game. I think she should still have the garage! I just wonder if they'll do it differently. but yes, I agree with you! it isn't too out of character for her to move out when she's known independency her whole life
been thinking about the barbie movie and there is something innately beautiful about being allive. I get to feel all these things and I get to tell my friends I love them and I get to do cute things for them because they deserve it and I'm so beautiful and you're so beautiful and there's nothing wrong with aging. growing up stings because you'll never get to go back to it, but it's also bittersweet because you're alive. you get to grow up. even when you didn't think you ever would. even when you always wanted to be an adult, but now you would wish for nothing more than to be a kid again. idk there's just something beautiful about being alive
I really hope they add that dinner to the show.
I don’t like the estrangement, but I’m dying for scenes during it. I want to see what they do when being forced to hangout. Joel trying to respect Ellie’s boundaries, Ellie trying to suppress her anger, all while making conversation so no one knows they are on bad terms
omg I never even thought of that, anon
I also really hope they include it in the show. Joel trying his damndest to respect her boundaries and Ellie trying to suppress her anger, while also trying to put on a show for everyone there. I think Jesse, Maria, and Tommy were all there, so she was probably trying so hard to put on a façade so they didn't pick up on it. but also, Joel, you need to sit ALL the way over there
AAAAAAA YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THEY WEREN'T CLOSE HERE EITHER?????

I am distraught.
I agree with that other anon about lazy writing. I’ve always felt Ellie moving into the garage was particularly lazy. It seems they decided they wanted to do the estrangement, but realized it would be too hard if she lived with him so they just separated them early on.
It just felt out of character to me for her to live there. Especially since when part 1 originally came out Ashley Johnson said Ellie still trusted Joel a lot at the end, but after the hbo show aired she changed her statement saying Ellie no longer trusted Joel. So it’s obvious they changed up the original storyline and characters when making the sequel
ooo I could definitely see that. I agree that the garage situation feels like lazy writing - did they forget that joel's a contractor?? or tommy?? if ellie was that mad at joel, she could've had tommy fix up the garage. the fact it's unfinished will always bug me. wait. what if the reason ellie doesn't seem to care that it's unfinished is cause fedra was that bad? I mean, we got to briefly see what it was like in the show and in the dlc, it doesn't look up to code (yk other than the fact this is in an apocalypse) so she's probably used to the cold :( mmmmmm :((( it still does feel a bit lazy, though
I wouldn't say it's completely out of character for her - she didn't get a normal childhood, she isn't even a normal kid, so she probably wants one sense of normalcy. that being her moving out. it is odd that it's seemingly so early (wasn't it at like 14 or 15?), but I personally don't think it's too out of character for her. unless, of course, we take the relationship into it. then it is a bit out of character. woah, really? I haven't listened to or watched a whole lot of the game bts, but I have for the show. did she change her statement after the second game came out, or just the show? cause if it was the show, she might be trying to see it from show ellie's perspective since they are so different.
