The thing that gets me EVERY TIME I watch ATLA is how fresh-faced tiny Zuko is. Like, he’s a sweet, innocent baby who worries about Uncle Iroh when he hears about Lu Ten and got in trouble with his father in the first place for standing up against a war crime.

It’s amazing how much a scar and an angry expression can change the way we look at him, and how the writers peel away the 2D villain to show us the person beneath.

Something that came as a surprise to me recently: people like you more if you show them that you aren’t perfect. For a long time I felt deeply embarrassed if I ever cried in front of even my good friends, like I was showing that I wasn’t good enough for them. I was apologizing for crying in front of a friend recently and she told me that she was actually relieved, because she had cried in front of me and had been afraid that I didn’t feel as close to her because I had never broken down with her. Because we were able to have a candid talk afterward, I really do feel a lot closer to her now.

Like, he’s just trying to be the Human Torch, not some horror-esque version of Doctor Strange.
