I am honestly in shock after the episode, it was so good! Do you think Sam and Cas are still afraid of the things Michael taunted Dean with in his brain bar? Or do you think it's more that Dean worries that they fear those things? Does it seem like we're headed for a confrontation of those issues, or are there other ones that might come up instead? (On a side note, that scene between Cas and Michael in the Bunker was AMAZING. I'm like, Emmys for everyone!)

I mean, some part of Sam and Cas must harbor these doubts. Or at least Dean FEARS that they might harbor these doubts about him, you know? Because that’s all Michael has to work with. Dean’s fears.

Interesting how they explicitly showed us Sam and Cas navigating through Dean’s mind. They were prepared to wallow through the worst of Dean’s fears and memories– everything from his dream!demon!self taunting him to Hell to the moment Dean realized Michael was breaking their deal in 13.23.

But that’s the one thing Michael DID pick up on about Dean. The first time he’d possessed him, he tried to drown Dean in his worst memories, but Sam now tells Cas in 14.10, “Dean thrives on trauma.” He gets it, that the way to really distract Dean is to give him something he’s never had… 

Contentment.

So Cas strolls through Dean’s GOOD memories:

2.19: “I think I’m adorable.” Which he tells Victor Henriksen during their first interview in prison.

4.14: Sam: You seem pretty cheery.Dean: Strippers, Sammy. Strippers. We’re on an actual case involving strippers. Finally. (which, in case anyone has forgotten, was the one in which Dean’s siren was a dude…)

6.18: Dean: I’ll stay here, hook up with the posse. ‘Cause you know me – I’m a posse magnet. I mean, I love posse. Make that into a t-shirt. (i mean… he was living out his cowboy dream here… but got hit with a cold dose of reality. It didn’t ruin his cowboy dream, but it made him reassess and engage with the REALITY of his cowboy dream… and in the end he was able to win the shootout with the phoenix with the colt… after the entire posse either chickened out or was murdered so… dean was a posse of one… such a posse magnet lol)

2.21: (and how TF is anything from that episode a HAPPY memory?) Dean: Hey, see if they’ve got any pie. Bring me some pie! I love me some pie.

and then Sam picks up on Dean talking about Rocky’s, this bar, not being for sale, and of course he knows THAT is the “false memory.”

So it seems that both Cas and Sam (and Jack, too…) know Dean better than to believe the “horror” side of his memories, you know?

We already saw Cas do the squint at Michael’s assessment of God, because heck he just had the totally wrong read on that entire situation, and Cas knows better. He also knows the Castiel this Michael is comparing him to, and *we* know what Cas thought of that guy… (reminder: Cas stabbed him to death in 13.22). So we know for SURE that Cas is taking all of Michael’s assessments of everything with this understanding of him in mind.

I mean, Cas was the one who realized that Michael was using these false, hurtful words to try and buy himself time until his monster posse showed up to kill the unaware winchesters in the bunker. Michael was SO SURE of his plan working, you know? But Cas not only saw through that, he also saw through Michael’s certainty that Sam and Cas (and especially Dean) couldn’t defeat him inside Dean’s mind.

And Dean might be strong (which :’) on Cas and Sam both for knowing that about him), but heck, It’s only his focus which is essentially keeping Michael caged right now, which regardless… seems like a dangerous situation that might slip at any moment Dean’s attention wavers, you know?

Like, an identical sort of situation to the one Cas is in regarding his deal with the empty. While his attention is on it, there’s no way for him to truly be happy, but heck… the ol’ attention could slip at any moment…

Heck I’m slipping again, aren’t I? That’s not what you asked. :/

But YES. I mean, I think this is why we have the clip from next week’s episode that Sam is weirded out because Dean hugged him, you know? ALL THREE OF THEM HEARD MICHAEL’S UGLY ///FALSE/// WORDS. So hell if Dean ain’t gonna feel compelled to make sure Sam and Cas BOTH (and probably Jack too, if it slips out that Mikey was mean to him, too) know just how much he does care for them.

Assuming that Michael wasn’t lying…

Last night’s episode made Supernatural horrifyingly darker. Chuck isn’t just another person affected by the multiverse. He has an active role. There’s only one Chuck… and when it seemed like the alternate worlds were just their own thing, it suddenly makes sense why there’s only one Empty.

Which also made me realize that psychics and dreamwalkers are just humans who can see where the splits in the timeline are. Psychics can see the splits right before they happen and dreamwalkers can see the effects of the split. Witches can access the leftover power and harness it for themselves. 

Which is why Jack was the only person able to make the jump between worlds- he is descended from God. His power isn’t just random. That’s why Chuck was so anti-Nephilim, because if they figured out what was going on, the draft would be ruined. Jack, if he had time, would’ve been able to find Chuck.
