it’s weird. you haven’t felt this way in such a long time. ever since you and billie made it official, there has been a new sense of security and comfort in your life. you felt as if you could breathe again. you felt as if all your worries had somehow disappeared, until today.

it had been a long day, and billie was doing an interview following pr for her new album, “hit me hard and soft." it’s the first time she’s been away from you since you’ve been together.

you don’t know what started it or why you began to feel this way. all you know is that sudden feeling of uneasiness hit you like a truck, which quickly developed into pure dread. your heartbeat was thumping in your ears as you tried to pace yourself. steady breaths turned into shallow breaths, which developed into a slight hyperventilation as you sat on the kitchen floor trying to ground yourself.

you didn’t notice she had walked through the front door until you heard a slight gasp, followed by her “hey- hey mama, what’s wrong?” she’s home, you’d thought. thank god.

still in your state of impending doom, you couldn’t find it in you to respond. but she understood; of course she understood. she knew you better than you knew yourself. crouching in front of you. spreading your legs apart and engulfing you in a bone-crushing hug.

“focus on me, m'kay, baby? focus on my breath. breathe with me, ready?” she instructed, and as you nodded in agreement, billie took a deep breath. 1... 2... 3 she had counted in her head, then exhaled. repeating the same patterns that you mimicked until she felt your body relax under her touch and your rapid heartbeat slowly return to a normal pace.

she slowly pulled away, cupping your cheeks with her hands and focusing her eyes on yours for a moment before pressing a chaste kiss on your lips.

“better?” she had asked. still cupping your face in her hands.

“better,” you’d said, with a smile now forming on your face.
