Friday July 25th

Ayano Shimizu awoke to an aching pain in her legs. She was instantly reminded of her harsh swimming practice the day before and sat up in bed.

Glancing around her room, she grabbed her phone from the nightstand and checked for any new messages. Yawning, she replied to Kiyoko's message.

Grabbing the nearest hair tie, she pulled her shoulder length hair into a ponytail. 6:30 am. Throwing away the last of the purple hair dye, she looked at herself in the mirror.

Seems like I did my ombre right this time, she thought to herself. Heading downstairs, she found her younger brother Toshiaki arguing with her older sister, Yuuka.

"Hey Ayano, can you get your sister?" Yuuka scoffed, "He's the one who ate all my candy." "No I didn't." Ayano grabbed the empty box from both of them, "I ate the rest of your candy. Are Mom and Dad already gone?" They nodded in unison and Ayano threw the box away.

She grabbed the eggs out of the fridge and began cracking two of them into a pan. "Hey Yuuka can you make lunch for us?" Yuuka nods and nudges Toshiaki to set the table up. Finishing the eggs, Ayano uses leftover kobachi to finish making breakfast.

"Thank you for the meal."

After eating, Ayana headed upstairs to finish getting dressed for the day. Sharing a room with her sister Yuuka, she rarely ever got to the hot water first.

While waiting for her sister to finish, she packed her backpack. Adding the new charm she purchased yesterday to the keychain attached to her bag, she heard the shower turn off. Ayano grabbed her towel and uniform and raced to the bathroom they shared together.

After enjoying her shower, she glanced at the clock once more. 7:30. She really needed to hurry. Grabbing her house keys from her nightstand and stuffing her phone into her purse, she headed downstairs without saying goodbye to her siblings. Despite this, they were right on her heels, trying to catch the train with her.

They all made it on time of course. Exhausted and sticky from the July heat, they each took a seat on the empty train.

This was a daily occurrence to them ever since Toshiaki went to middle school. Getting closer to the school, the train filled up causing them to have to give up their seats. Reaching their stop, they still had five blocks to walk.

This was usually when the three split up into their own friend groups. Toshiaki went with his friends from the baseball team and Yuuka went with her friends from the choir club. Ayano however usually walked with Kiyoko.

Sure the boys following her was a bit obnoxious, but she was glad that the seniors didn't hit on her when she was walking with Kiyoko.

The walk was usually silent except for a greeting or two. Ayano and Kiyoko were different that way. Ayano could talk to anyone, while Kiyoko preferred the quiet. "You guys have the prelims soon right? Is that what you call them?" "Yep, if we make it we have to go against some powerhouse schools." "I know you guys will do great." Ayano gives Kiyoko a smile as they enter the school.

Ayano waves as they get separated into their different hallways. Spotting her friends, Ayano pulled them both into a hug by their lockers. "Any reason why today is different from any other day?" Kazuo, the older twin, asks.

His usually ear length black hair was cut short today. "I like the new haircut, Kazuo. "At least someone appreciates it," he says over exaggerating the someone in his sentence.

"Hey it's not my fault I don't think you'll pull girls with that cut," Saori replies. Saori's usual pink pigtails were nowhere to be found and an elegant ponytail replaced them.

"I wouldn't be talking if my roots were growing out," Ayano teased. Kazuo tried to hide his laughter which earned him a slap from Saori. The three headed up the stairs to the second year hallway.

Nishinoya spots Kazuo instantly and they do their handshake. Tanaka isn't far behind joining in with them.

Kazuo gives a small wave as he joins the boys to wherever they spent their time before class. Saori laughed a bit, "He really likes them doesn't he?" "You sound like his mom. C'mon we're going to be late."

Saori and Ayano were in class 2-4 while the boys were in class 2-3. They sat near the window where they could easily pass notes back and forth.

Saori sat in front of her in the third seat, and Ayano in the fourth. Today however, the desks were pushed together into groups of four implying group work was happening.

Miyu Kimura and Kazuki Okazaki were already seated and sharing snacks with each other. Ayano sat next to Kimura and Saori sat next to Okazaki.

Saori knew Ayano was unaware of her growing crush on Kimura and Okazaki and she wanted to keep it that way. Kimura's long blonde curls were always tied up in a bun and Okazaki's dark blue hair was long overdue for a haircut. Today he had his hair pulled back in a bun with fly away strands here and there.

Ayano started chatting away from club activities to meeting Tanaka later. Saori didn't understand why it was so easy for her to talk about anything with people.

A part of her was jealous and a part of her admired her. Their homeroom teacher walked in, signaling the beginning of class.

After attendance was taken, they began with math. The group work in math required poster boards to be made which put Ayano and Okazaki in charge of design.

Ayano and Saori switched seats so Saori and Kimura sat next to each other to work on the math problems.

"Thanks again for helping with the posters, Shimizu," Okazaki gave Ayano a smile. "It's no problem really. You can call me by my first name Okazaki. You know what would be fun? If we all dyed our hair together. Me, you, Saori, and Kimura." "This Saturday?" "If I leave practice early."

Saori hummed as she did the problems Kimura assigned her to do. She couldn't help but admire Kimura's neat handwriting and the little doodles she did on the side. Catching herself staring, she adjusted her glasses and continued writing. "Hey Saori, your coming right?" Kimura asked her. Okazaki and Ayano looked at her with excitement.

"Going where exactly?" "To dye our hair Saturday. I just did mine so I'll help you guys," Ayano replied barely containing her excitement. "Yeah who's house we going to?" "Mine since no one will be home. We can order food and stuff," Okazaki interrupts, pushing Ayano out the way. Saori couldn't say no to their smiling faces and gave in.

They verbally cheered and went back to designing the poster board.

"Heya Tanaka." Ayano sat next to Tanaka at the lunch table outside. "Heya Ayano. I can't wait for you to see me at practice." Saori sat across from the two with Okazaki on her right and Kimura on her left. "I can't wait either. Wanna hang out Sunday?" Tanaka nods eagerly," Where to?" "The arcade of course! I heard it's cheaper on Sunday." Nishinoya and Kazuo sat next to Tanaka with their lunch.

"Hey guys what're you talking about?" Nishinoya asks. "Just two lovebirds," Kimura replied nodding towards Ayano and Tanaka. "Hey we are not lovebirds, just two friends talking," Ayano argued. Saori gave her a look indicating she knew about her feelings for Tanaka.

"Well guess who I saw guys? Kiyoko! And she had a purple strand in her hair!" "Really? I bet she looks sooo pretty."

Hearing Tanaka talk about how pretty he found Kiyoko was a daily occurrence. It annoyed Ayano, considering her and Kiyoko had similar features. Today made her even angrier because her hair was already a purple ombre and Kiyoko just had a purple strand. Is she really that pretty? Ayano asked herself.

She stayed silent for the remainder of lunch, not wanting to contribute in the conversation anymore. She didn't hate Kiyoko, she just wished people didn't choose Kiyoko over herself.

Pairing: Giyuu X Black!reader

pairing: giyuu x black!reader

synopsis: shinobu is sick of seeing tomioka ignore his feelings

word count: 1.2k

warnings: i love fluff

type: one-shot/drabble

a/n: found the breathing style on reddit so credit to who's idea it was! also doing a black reader for every day this month cus its black history month <3

Giyuu had heard Shinobu for a week talking about how he had to come along because Y/n couldn't do it herself. He knew she just wanted him to get alone time with Y/n, but Y/n was perfectly capable of going on her own.

"But what if she dies?" Shinobu continued pushing the idea. Giyuu said nothing in response and kept walking. "I can not believe you would just let Y/n die like that. Its no wonder people don't like you." He disliked being reminded that despite how annoying Shinobu was, she was the only Hashira who talked to him.

When he did decide to speak it was barely audible, "If I go will you stop?" Shinobu nodded. "Glad you said yes because I already told her you wanted to go." Giyuu continued ignoring her. "And you need to confess this time okay? Otherwise she's going to think your really weird." The last time Shinobu forced him to confess no words came out.

She of course found it hilarious and Giyuu didn't appreciate her making fun of him. Shinobu said some other words he didn't listen to and ran off. He planned on telling Y/n he felt sick and couldn't go. What he wasn't expecting was Shinobu to bring Y/n back. They were smiling and laughing with each other like old friends.

Y/n wore the usual demon slayer uniform outlined in yellow and white. The right side of her haori was a geometric pattern of stars while the left side was white fading into yellow. Her dark brown curls were tied back with a star clip and a few strands were in the front.

"I was surprised you said yes," Y/n smiled at him. Giyuu avoided her eyes. Shinobu frowned. "Giyuu you should speak when someone talks to you." Giyuu still said nothing and began walking. "So did he not say yes?" Y/n was visibly confused.

"He wants to get the mission over with. He's so anti-social its sad really," Shinobu smiled. "Any advice?" Y/n asked. "Bully him until he responds," Shinobu had a playful glint in her eyes. Giyuu was already far ahead and by the time Y/n caught up he still wasn't talking.

"How'd you know where to go?" Y/n attempted to make conversation. Shinobu told her that Giyuu didn't hate her, but his current behavior said otherwise. "Giyuu you have a mission on your own right?" He shook his head. "Even though your breathing style is basic, I still think its pretty cool." Giyuu nodded.

Y/n sighed and was ready to give up defeat. How could Shinobu get him to talk but no one else could? The rest of the walk was silent except for the occasional bird singing. Giyuu's expression didn't change either. Y/n usually got him to speak whenever she greeted him, but apparently whatever connection they had was lost.

When the two reached the town the demon was supposedly terrorizing, it was already nightfall. "Are you tired," Giyuu whispered. Y/n was surprised he even asked about her wellbeing. "I'm fine. What did you hear about the demon?" Maybe Y/n had asked too much. "You would've been fine without me here."

"I'm going to take that as a compliment." The two were approached by a frantic woman in tears. "Please you have to help me. That devil took my babies. They're the only ones I have left." She began to sob. "Where'd you last see them?" Y/n hated seeing families being torn apart because of demons.

The woman tried her best to recount what happened. Once they got a solid story, the two went off in search of the demon. "It's probably too late to save them." "Giyuu how could you say that?" The barn the woman described was a few miles outside the town.

There were dead bodies littered in the grass and a rotten stench filled the air. None of it fazed Giyuu and he continued walking. "You save the kids and I'll get the demon," he didnt want Y/n in any kind of danger despite knowing she was more then capable.

She nodded and continued walking towards the front door while Giyuu went around back. The door creaked eerily as it opened to a pitch black room. Y/n carefully walked but without any light, she stepped right into a trap. A sharp pain hit her foot and she almost yelped in pain.

A hand covered her mouth and dragged her to a corner. "Keep quiet while I get it off your foot." She nodded and let them remove the trap trying desperately to not make a sound. Once her foot was successfully wrapped in bandages, the pain subsided a bit. "He definitely knows we're here now. You stay here and when I find him you can get the kids," Giyuu's tone was very hushed.

Y/n nodded again and sat patiently waiting. She heard a few noises, but chose to ignore them. If anything she was utterly embarrassed that her crush saw her at a weak point. She admitted defeat and waited for his signal. As the night went on, she was beginning to wonder what was taking so long.

Y/n limped towards the only light in the barn and peeked around the corner. There the kids lay being guarded by a demon. The demon seemed small enough that Y/n could take it on. She hobbled into the shadows and planned her attack. She knew once she attacked, anyone else in the barn would know she was there.

It was one of the many downsides of her style of breathing. She focused her attention on her state of mind. "Star Breathing Fourth Form: Meteor Shower." Several quick slashes made this move one of Y/n's favorite. Cutting the demon's limbs and torso into pieces gave enough of a distraction to safely get the kids out of the room.

She was glad the children were old enough to walk without help otherwise she would have really been dead. The siblings kept running until they reached the outside of the barn with Y/n hobbling behind. The sun was beginning to rise and there was still no sign of Giyuu. Her anxiety only grew as she began walking the kids back to the town. As the sun fully rose, the kids were reunited with their mother.

She began thanking her and asking what she could do to repay her. Y/n insisted that it was just her job. "Where's the young man you were with?" "He should be coming soon. He told me to leave with the kids," Y/n lied. She had no idea where Giyuu was and if he was dead because of her that would seriously be a problem.

Almost as if her prayers had been answered, Giyuu appeared a few minutes later. Y/n wrapped her arms around him instantly. "I thought you were dead. I'm sorry for abandoning you like that." "Can we go somewhere private?" He whispered in her ear.

Y/n assumed he wanted to share something about the demon that the family couldn't handle, but when they reached a clearing he seemed nervous. "So what was it you needed to say?" Giyuu took a huge breath before speaking.

"I think I have romantic feelings for you and was wondering if you wanted to go on a date later?" His voice got smaller and smaller the more he talked. After a few seconds of silence Giyuu assumed he was getting rejected. Shinobu had set him up once again.

Y/n pulled him into a hug and whispered in his ear, "Of course. Right after my foot heals."

Today In Black Excellence: Shirley Chisholm, The First African Americanand The First Womanto Seek Nomination

Today in Black Excellence: Shirley Chisholm, the first African Americanโ€”and the first womanโ€”to seek nomination for President.

โ€œI want history to remember me... not as the first black woman to have made a bid for the presidency of The United States, but as a black woman who lived in the 20th century and who dared to be herself. I want to be remembered as a catalyst for change in America.โ€

โ€”Shirley Chisholm

Chisholm wanted to be remembered as a โ€œcatalyst for change.โ€ What did she do?

Shirley Anita Chisholm was a politician, educator, and writer. There would be no Barack Obama or Kamala Harris without herโ€”she was a trailblazer in every sense of the word.

Citing her โ€œdouble-handicapโ€ of being a Black woman, Chisholm initially rejected a political career but became increasingly engaged in fighting racial and gender inequality. She eventually joined the Democratic Party in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, winning a seat in the United States Congress in 1968, and becoming the first Black woman to do so.

What did she achieve in politics?

With a seat at the table, โ€œFighting Shirleyโ€ introduced over 50 pieces of legislation on behalf of the poor, protesting racial and gender inequality. She became a fierce critic of the Vietnam War when opposition to the war was considered radical. Her outspoken assault on injustice earned her few friends in the white political establishment.

While campaigning for the 1972 primaries, Chisholm was allowed only one speech in televised debates and was otherwise blocked from participation. Despite this, students, women, and minorities proved loyal supporters: In 12 primaries, she garnered 152 (10%) of delegatesโ€™ votes, despite a poorly financed campaign and widespread political hostility.

The 1972 primaries also displayed her remarkable character, when she chose to visit racist and segregationist Governor George Wallace of Alabama in hospital after a failed assassination attempt.

After retiring from Congress in 1983, Chisholm taught at Mount Holyoke College and co-founded the National Political Congress of Black Women.

Original portrait by Tumblr Creatr @banana-peppers

โ€œIt was an honor to create a piece celebrating Shirley Chisholm. She was the first Black woman elected to Congress and to seek a major party nomination for presidency. Her trailblazing career is truly inspiring and I wanted to capture her power, her bravery and her magic. Her motto Unbought and Unbossed implores us to forge our own path no matter what obstacles try to stand in our way."

"Ayano maybe they were just hanging out. They were probably going to Nishinoya's house or something?"

Saori tried to comfort Ayano. "Yeah, you know how they are," Kazuo added. "Exactly, they're obsessed with her. They basically worship her. I never stood a chance."

Kazuo looked dejected, but didn't push it any further. "Maybe Tanaka was asking Kiyoko for advice. Since you guys are related and all." "I doubt it."

Ayano slumped down on the park bench, "I just don't get it. Kiyoko and I have similar features, and she would never date either of them." "I'm not so sure about that..," Kazuo said, sitting down next to Ayano. "Did you hear something we didn't?"

Saori questioned her brother rather aggressively. "Some people in our class say that Tanaka may stand a chance with Kiyoko. They're probably just fucking around though."

"Its cool guys. You don't have to try to cheer me up. I've got to head to the club room to get some stuff really quick though." "Ayano school is like a twenty minute walk from here, plus it's summer vacation. I doubt the club rooms are open," Saori tried to talk Ayano into staying with them at the park. "The volleyball teams room was open. Plus Yuki has the key and she'll be there too."

Saori and Kazuo gave up and let Ayano go. Ayano wasn't surprised, just disappointed. She had stopped counting how many guys lost interest in her once they saw Kiyoko. It had happened a couple times to Yuuka as well since Kiyoko and Yuuka were in the same class. Yuuka now wore green contacts and dyed her hair brown to remove any resemblance to Kiyoko.

Taking a shortcut through the fruit market, Ayano wondered why that always happened. If they looked similar, how was Kiyoko prettier?

Finally making it to the school, she went around back to where the separate building where the sport's club rooms were. As she expected, the boys volleyball one was open and she could loudly here Tanaka's voice coming from it.

Luckily, their club room was on the first floor. Yuki was already standing outside it dressed in a hoodie and sweat pants. "Hey Yuki, did you come from the pool?" "I was heading to the community pool after you got your stuff."

Ayano nodded and Yuki unlocked the door. The club rooms didn't have the luxury of air conditioning so Ayano could imagine how hot Yuki must be.

Ayano quickly unlocked her locker and began cleaning it out and putting any spare change she found in her purse.

"Alright Yuki I think I'm done. Nationals are in a week right?" Yuki nods, "We should probably practice sometime this week if we plan on winning." "If we don't win, there's always next year. I heard a lot of middle schoolers in the area want to join the team."

Yuki followed after Ayano and locked the club room, "New recruits are great, but they need to be able to produce results. I'll see you later this week Ayano." Ayano waved as Yuki hurried to the community pool. She debated going to talk to Tanaka and decided on facing him herself.

Every step, her heart beats grew louder and louder in her head. Turning up to the stairs, she could see the door was open.

Tanaka was loudly talking to Kiyoko and Kiyoko's voice could barely be heard. Ayano knocked on the open door before fully stepping into their view. "Noya? Is that you?"

Ayano's hope was instantly knocked down as she heard Tanaka's voice. "It's Ayano. I was looking for Kiyoko is all."

Ayano walked into the club room to see Kiyoko sitting cross legged on the floor and Tanaka, shirtless, in his locker. "Hey Ayano, what did you need?" Ayano shifted uneasily seeing that her worst fear was already confirmed.

"Could we maybe talk? Well actually I need to talk to both of you." Kiyoko patted the floor next to her and Ayano sat next to her.

Tanaka sat down next to Kiyoko and was closer to Kiyoko than Ayano would have liked. "Kiyoko, it's not your fault. Its getting to be annoying now though." "What do you mean?" Kiyoko gave Ayano a puzzled look.

"This. First the guys Yuuka were into, all fell for you once they saw you. Now Yuuka changes how she looks entirely. Now it's happening to me. You don't do it on purpose, but it just feels bad knowing Yuuka and I will always be second choices unless we never introduce the people we like to you."

Kiyoko was about to speak when Tanaka spoke over her, "Well no one is prettier than Kiyoko so she deserves all the attention." Ayano felt her heart crumble when Tanaka said that. Ayano stood up, "Well clearly no one is prettier than her. No matter what I do you stupid fuckers choose her. When I first got here last year, both my crushes left me to chase her. But I guess you don't know how that feels Tanaka since your so fucking obsesed with her." "It's not like you stand a chance against Kiyoko. It's obvious who the prettier cousin is."

"I can't believe I liked you Tanaka. I thought you were different. Kiyoko and I are nothing alike. She wears glasses, I don't. My hair is purple, hers isn't. My eyes are brown, hers aren't."

"I only pretended to like you because you looked like Kiyoko." Ayano couldn't believe the words coming out of Tanaka's mouth. "I see how it is. I hope you two have a nice summer." Ayano closed the door behind her and began running. She didn't know where she was running to, but she knew she couldn't stay there. Ayano thought that it wouldn't happen again, but apparently it had.

She wasn't watching where she was going and almost ran into Nishinoya. "Sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going."

"Ayano why are you crying? You'll ruin your eyeliner." "It's nothing," Ayano tried to avoid finishing the conversation. "C'mon pretty girl, you can tell me."

"Tanaka is just dogshit. Him and Kiyoko can go to hell and be together forever there." Ayano continued walking, but Nishinoya followed her.

"It'll be okay. Tanaka isn't the only guy out there. I don't see how my best friend could hurt such a divine girl like you." "Since when did you learn big words, Noya?" "I'll catch you later, Ayano."
