     𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲  𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫  𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝  𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞  𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧  𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝,     maeve  and  soldier  boy  were  unstoppable  whenever  they  were  fighting  alongside  each  other  and  it  absolutely  made  sense  that  ares  and  his  team  of  assholes  would  try  to  separate  them.     but  she  never  should've  let  it  happen.     she  got  herself  distracted  for  a  moment  and  she  lost  track  of  him.     fuck.     she  was  trying  not  to  panic,  panicking  wouldn't  help  him  and  panciking  wouldn't  make  anyone  feel  better.     yet  she  felt  like  she  was  on  the     𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞     and  she  could  barely  hear  homelander  as  he  spoke  to  her,  blue  eyes  focused  on  the  shield  in  his  hands,  her  heart  racing  in  her  chest  as  she  tried  not  to  fall  apart.     this  was  the  last  thing  he  wanted.     ben  refused  to  be  a  prisoner  again,  to  let  himself  get  caught  and  remained  captured  again.     he  was  going  to  be  hating  this,  he  was  going  to  make  life  hell  for  those  fuckers  who  thought  they  could  do  whatever  they  wanted.     maggie  would  do  anything  to  get  him  back,  she  had  to  because  she  know  he  would  do     𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠     for  her  if  she  was  the  one  who  was  caught.

     𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠  𝐨𝐮𝐭  𝐭𝐨  𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝  𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦  𝐡𝐢𝐦,     trying  to  hide  the  way  her  hands  shook  for  a  moment  as  she  tried  to  ignore  that  need  to  just  scream  and  break  something.     ares  had  taken  so  much  from  her  already  and  she  refused  to  lose  anyone  else  to  that  fucker.     she  couldn't  cry,  she  couldn't  break  apart,  she  didn't  have  that  option  right  now.     she  just  had  to  get  him  back  and  she  would     𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭     like  hell  to  get  to  him.     holding  his  shield  made  her  feel  a  little  stronger,  a  little  better  but  it  wasn't  enough.     she  had  to  get  him  back,  she  wouldn't  leave  him  in  that  place,  she  wouldn't  let  him  be  a  prisoner  to  anyone  again.     taking  a  deep  breath,  finally  looking  up  at  homelander  as  she  moved  the  shield  onto  her  back,     "     he's  not  gone.     i'm  getting  him  back,  i'm  not     .     .     .     i'm  not  fucking  losing  him  too,     "     maeve  shook  her  head,  probably  wasn't  thinking  clearly  but  she  wasn't  going  to  just  let  him  go.     she  needed  him  and  she  wouldn't  be  without  him,  he  always  called  her  his  sword  and  she  needed  her  shield  more  than  anything.

     𝐬𝐡𝐞  𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝  𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐞  𝐨𝐮𝐭  𝐚  𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧  𝐨𝐧  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐰𝐚𝐲,     she  wasn't  going  to  stop  till  ben  was  free  and  he  got  to  have  the  life  that  seemed  like  a  far  off  dream.     she  wouldn't  let  him  stay  that  way,  she  wouldn't  give  up  on  him.     running  a  hand  through  her  hair,  looking  in  the  direction  of  vought  tower,  she  wasn't  thinking  but  she  knew     𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲     what  she  needed  to  do.     walking  in  the  direction  of  the  tower,  not  looking  at  homelander  as  she  walked  past  him  before  stopping,     "     are  you  coming  or  are  you  really  gonna  let  me  do  this  alone?     "     maeve  asked,  glancing  back  at  him  and  she  knew  he  had  plenty  of  reasons  to  say  no,  but  she  also  knew  how  important  family  was  to  him.     annie  was  going  to  be  mad  at  both  of  them  for  being  so  thoughtless,  but  even  the  blonde  goody  two  shoes  would  understand  why  they  needed  to  do  this,     "     we  can't  leave  him  there.     ares  will     .     .     .     ares  will  only  do  to  him  what  the  russians  did,  if  not  fucking  worse.     we  gotta  get  him  back,  we're  all  he  has,     "

     𝐚  𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭  𝐨𝐟  𝐡𝐞𝐫  𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭  𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰  𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭  𝐭𝐨  𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭  𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧  𝐬𝐡𝐞  𝐬𝐚𝐰  𝐡𝐢𝐦,     covered  in  blood  and  standing  on  her  balcony  in  a  way  that  wasn't  threatening  but  it  chilled  her  to  her  core.     annie  knew  something  terrible  had  happened,  but  she  wasn't  quite  sure  where  his  head  was  at  this  moment.     she  almost  didn't  dare  move  from  where  she  was  stood,  arms  wrapped  around  herself  as  she  realised  he  was  talking  about  his  childhood  and  whoever  he  had  hurt,  they  had     𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐭     him  first.     her  heart  was  pounding  in  her  chest,  hearing  him  talk  about  what  they  had  done  to  him  and  it  broke  her  heart.     he  hadn't  deserved  that.     no  one  deserved  to  be  treated  like  that.     vought  had  created  him  and  they  had  raised  him  in  a  way  that  had  twisted  him  into  the  man  he  was  now.     but  there  was  still  so  much  more  to  him  than  vought  had  made,  she  had  seen  that  and  she  knew  exactly  who  he  really  was.     dark  eyes  blur  with  tears  of  her  own,  trying  to  keep  it  together  because  her  tears  wouldn't  fix  anything  from  his  past  and  she  knew  he  wouldn't  want  her  crying  over  him.     but  her  heart  broke  for  him  and  she  couldn't  help  but  wonder  if  he  was  truly     𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐞     down  a  dark  path  that  she  couldn't  follow.

     𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐞  𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭  𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰  𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭  𝐭𝐨  𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤  𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭  𝐧𝐨𝐰,     she  didn't  recognise  the  look  on  his  face  as  she  moved  a  little  closer,  not  quite  daring  to  reach  out  to  touch  him.     it  was  like  he  was  here,  but  he  wasn't  fully  present  right  now.     she  didn't  even  know  if  he  even  meant  to  come  here,  or  whether  he  just  found  himself  here  without  realising  it.     she  hated  that  she  jumped  a  little  as  he  looked  at  her,  freezing  in  place  as  he  takes  her  in  and  she  didn't  know  what  he  was  thinking  right  now  as  he  looked  at  the  blood  on  his  suit.     a  tear  escaped  down  her  cheek  as  he  calls  himself  a     𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫     from  the  moment  he  was  born,  which  she  refused  to  believe  and  she  didn't  even  think  that  was  possible.     if  he  had  been  raised  differently,  with  a  mom  and  dad  maybe,  or  fuck,  just  one  decent  person  who  cared  about  him,  things  could  have  been  so  different.     those  people  had  failed  him,  they  were  the  reason  he  had  such  a  twisted  view  on  things  and  messed  up  beliefs  his  whole life.

     𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬  𝐫𝐮𝐛  𝐚𝐭  𝐡𝐞𝐫  𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐬  𝐟𝐨𝐫  𝐚  𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭,     having  not  grabbed  a  cardigan  or  anything  before  stepping  out  to  see  him,  but  she  knew  she  was  cold  for  a  different  reason.     just  listening  to  him  talk  about  this,  it  made  her  blood  run  cold  and  she  knew  that  he  was     𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠     himself  to  her  in  a  way  that  she  never  expected.     this  was  her  chance  to  show  him  that  she  accepted  all  parts  of  them,  the  good,  the  bad,  the  monsterous.     stepping  towards  him  again,  hands  dropping  to  her  side,  nodding  her  head,     "     it  doesn't  matter  why  you  came,  i've  got  you,  okay,     "     annie  admits,  looking  over  him  for  a  moment,  unsure  on  whether  she  should  even  touch  him  or  what  exactly  he  wanted  right  now.     yet  his  question  catches  her  off  guard,  looking  up  at  him,  her  heart  was  beating  so  hard  in  her  chest  and  she  didn't  know  what  to  say  straight  away.     she  wouldn't  lie  to  him  and  immediately  saying  no  felt  like  it  would  be  lie.     but  she  didn't  think  he  was  a  monster,  not  anymore  because  she  saw  many  parts  of  him  that  she  knew     𝐧𝐨  𝐨𝐧𝐞     else  ever  got  to  see,     "     i  think  you  feel  like  you  have  to  be  monster  when  you  feel  like  you  have  no  other  choice.     it's  not  always  a  bad  thing  because  you  can  be  that  and  it  comes  out  when  you  want  to  protect  certain  people,     "     like  her,  like  ryan,     "     but  i  also  know  you're  so  much  more  than  that  and  when  i  tell  you  that  i  love  you,  i  love  all  parts  of  you,     "

     𝐚𝐬  𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡  𝐚𝐬  𝐬𝐡𝐞  𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭  𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰  𝐡𝐨𝐰  𝐡𝐞  𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭  𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭,     she  reached  out  to  cup  his  face,  not  caring  about  the  blood  on  his  skin  as  she  stepped  towards  him,     "     i  love  you  and  i  know  you  love  me  and  you  love  ryan.     monsters  can't  do  that  and  you  are  not  a  monster.     you  weren't  born  one,  those  people  fucking  failed  you  and  you  deserved  so  much  better,     "     she  told  him,  unable  to  stop  tears  slipping  down  her  cheek  as  she  looked  up  at  him.     she  needed  to  get  him  clean,  get  him  out  of  these  clothes  and  find  him  under  all  that  blood,     "     c'mon,  let's  get  you  cleaned  up,     "     annie  whispered  softly,  not  caring  that  her  hands  were  now  covered  in  blood  as  she  took  his  hands,  gently  pulling  him  into  her  apartment.     she  would  have  to  scrub  any  blood  on  the  floor,  she  would  burn  her  clothes  and  scrub  herself  clean,  but  she  didn't  care  about  any  of  that  right  now.     all  annie  cared  about  was  him  and  making  sure  he  was  okay.     closing  the  bathroom  door  behind  them,  letting  go  off  his  hands  as  she  moves  to  turn  the  shower  on,  making  sure  the  water  wasn't  too  hot,  especially  after  what  he  told  her  about  them  burning  him.     turning  back  to  look  at  him,  a  soft  expression  on  her  face  as  she  looks  at  him,     "     i  think  we're  gonna  have  to  soak  your  suit  in  the  bath,  not  sure  how  good  it  will  do,  but  i've  got  clothes  for  you  once  you're  clean,     "     she  tells  him  as  she  starts  to  undo  his  suit,  having  become  extremely  familiar  with  the  way  it  does  up,     "     i  feel  like  asking  if  you're  okay  isn't  really  a  good  question.     but  i  just  want  to  know  where  you're  head  is  at     -     are  you  with  me  right  now?     "

just got home from seeing alien : romulus - it was soooo good, i really enjoyed it.
