I’m Not Here (2019)

𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝, maeve and soldier boy were unstoppable whenever they were fighting alongside each other and it absolutely made sense that ares and his team of assholes would try to separate them. but she never should've let it happen. she got herself distracted for a moment and she lost track of him. fuck. she was trying not to panic, panicking wouldn't help him and panciking wouldn't make anyone feel better. yet she felt like she was on the 𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 and she could barely hear homelander as he spoke to her, blue eyes focused on the shield in his hands, her heart racing in her chest as she tried not to fall apart. this was the last thing he wanted. ben refused to be a prisoner again, to let himself get caught and remained captured again. he was going to be hating this, he was going to make life hell for those fuckers who thought they could do whatever they wanted. maggie would do anything to get him back, she had to because she know he would do 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 for her if she was the one who was caught.

𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐢𝐦, trying to hide the way her hands shook for a moment as she tried to ignore that need to just scream and break something. ares had taken so much from her already and she refused to lose anyone else to that fucker. she couldn't cry, she couldn't break apart, she didn't have that option right now. she just had to get him back and she would 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 like hell to get to him. holding his shield made her feel a little stronger, a little better but it wasn't enough. she had to get him back, she wouldn't leave him in that place, she wouldn't let him be a prisoner to anyone again. taking a deep breath, finally looking up at homelander as she moved the shield onto her back, " he's not gone. i'm getting him back, i'm not . . . i'm not fucking losing him too, " maeve shook her head, probably wasn't thinking clearly but she wasn't going to just let him go. she needed him and she wouldn't be without him, he always called her his sword and she needed her shield more than anything.

𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲, she wasn't going to stop till ben was free and he got to have the life that seemed like a far off dream. she wouldn't let him stay that way, she wouldn't give up on him. running a hand through her hair, looking in the direction of vought tower, she wasn't thinking but she knew 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 what she needed to do. walking in the direction of the tower, not looking at homelander as she walked past him before stopping, " are you coming or are you really gonna let me do this alone? " maeve asked, glancing back at him and she knew he had plenty of reasons to say no, but she also knew how important family was to him. annie was going to be mad at both of them for being so thoughtless, but even the blonde goody two shoes would understand why they needed to do this, " we can't leave him there. ares will . . . ares will only do to him what the russians did, if not fucking worse. we gotta get him back, we're all he has, "

@thcrealheroes ; homelander : " I have changed, whether you believe it or not, I am not the same Homelander you once knew . . . and that's all thanks to Annie. Not Starlight - don't you fucking call her that. She is more than just a damn supe, do I make myself clear, William ? "

𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞'𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝? just because he managed to get sweet little starlight to fall in love with him and have a kid with him? nah, he wasn't buying it. starlight had always been naive and probably got borderline stockholm syndrome with all those years alone with it. once homelander reminded them all of who he really was, she'd probably run and hide with her own daughter. butcher wasn't going to sit there and believe this whole 𝐚𝐜𝐭 that homelander was a better person, everyone else might be willing to believe it because they felt like they needed him to stop ares. yet he found it amusing that homelander was trying to tell him to how fucking act. butcher smirked softly, shaking his head, " why? it's her fucking supe name, ain't it? " he shrugged, not looking over at him as he spoke, not taking him seriously whatsoever. a part of him knew that homelander could and would hurt him. maybe he was trying to goad him into a little, to show everyone that it was absolutely a mistake in bringing him into their plan. was it his best plan? absolutely not. but fuck it. butcher wasn't going to be 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 nice with homelander at any time, " everyone else might want to buy into your bullshit, john, " he sneered, looking over at him for a moment, shaking his head as he raised the cigarette between his fingers to his lips, taking a drag as he looks away again, " but i don't. not sure how you tricked starlight into thinking you're not a monster, but i'm not fucking buying it for one second - you'll show us all who you really are eventually and all that hardwork starlight did to change will have been for nothing, "

𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠. though she had to admit that it was incredibly satisfying to see him almost begging her for a place amongst her group. arms fold across her chest, blue eyes flicking over him once, a smirk pulling at her lips, " seems to be quite the pattern with you - all your groups fall to shit. maybe you're the rebel and now you're cryin' out for protection 'cause your games being caught onto, " the last thing she needed right now was more trouble. he was right about one thing, these lands were dangerous and she had to be careful with who she chose to put her trust in. a while back, she would've never doubted if she could trust john. but these days? she would be stupid to allow herself to get burnt again, " you're not exactly the right type of stray, you're gonna stick out like a sore thumb amongst my group of girls, " maggie admits, except she hates that he's right about one thing, she wouldn't want his blood on her hands especially if he was 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, begging for help. sighing softly, hand running through red hair as she looks away for a moment before looking back at him, " fine. you can stick around for now. i'll get my girls to find a few other guys that we can trust, so you don't look so obvious, " she relents, hoping this wouldn't be a decision that she came to regret. she just hoped he wouldn't bring more trouble to her door, she had her own stuff to deal with than cleaning up john's mess. stepping towards him, hands moving to rest on her hips, " but you're not in charge here, john. you're gonna listen to me, got it? "

"no, I don't care" his grin widening shamelessly "but I'm not here for a chit chat about her either, come on.. it all is getting boring" because he still sees that said girlfriend as his rivalry until he sees her lifeless corpse burning in flames, he still has soft spot for Maeve and hearing she's dating again was painful for him.. "ah" he clicks his tongue "no, I wouldn't. but the thing is, my previous gang. we had a rebel between us that killed the leader and I got lucky when I ran away from them, you know how cruel life is in these lands, I need to hook on some group to survive so here's my offer, let me join your team, Maggie. you won't regret it" he lowers his hands slowly, wipes at the sweat beading on his forehead "heard you gave home to few strays, one more wouldn't be such burden, eh? I can pull my weight if that's the case.. if the answer is still a 'no', then maybe let me ride with your team until we reach another group's place, I can't be out here alone.. scavengers are everywhere and you don't want your old friend's blood on your hand, do you?"

𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬, that she was standing across from here, willing to help ryan in a way that he couldn't and helping him keep his promise to rebecca. in making sure that ryan wouldn't end up like homelander, he needed her help to help him learn and control his powers. as much as he dislikes supes, he would do anything for ryan and he didn't have anyone else that they could possibly 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 to do this. hughie had always spoke so highly of starlight, he was the reason that butcher had even considered this because he trusted hughie and if he really thought that starlight could be trusted, he had to go with that. he was completely aware of the risk he was asking her to take, especially considering how closely she had to work with homelander. the one person who could absolutely not know what they were doing here. it had a 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 year, though he was positive that homelander had spent most of the year searching for ryan, but he still hadn't found them and it needed to stay that way. butcher would do anything to make sure ryan could grow up in a way that rebecca had wanted, she just wanted the best for him and he had always been bad at keeping promsies, but this was a promise he wanted to keep.

𝐛𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭, knowing he definitely deserved the way she reacted to him because she absolutely had every reason to not like, not trust him and honestly, he was shocked she was here. she didn't owe him anything and it was just further proof that she was just a good person. but he was being geninue in saying that he appreicated that she was here and if she was going to keep showing up like this, he could at least agree to not be consistently arguing with her. butcher sighs softly, looking around the surrounding area as he nods, " he's doing okay as he can be. i know he misses his mom more than anything. he keeps having nightmares . . . about you know who, " he admits softly because it was the one thing he couldn't keep him safe from, he couldn't keep ryan from his own fears and his own mind. he could do everything else, he could keep moving him from place to place, he could fight to his last breath, but he couldn't protect ryan from his own nightmares. he hated seeing him cry and shout, knowing becca would've been so much at comforting than he was, but he was really 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 his best out here. he never thought he would be a good dad, but he was trying to do whatever ryan needed from him and he definitely wasn't perfect, but the two of them had each other and it had helped him not be completely consumed by grief.

𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, seeing that smile on her face and just taken back by how beautiful she is. nope, absolutely not. he could not afford to be distracted and think like that. she was here to help ryan and that was it. nodding his head, running his hand through dark hair, " yeah, he does. i told him that you were coming, he remembered you from that day . . . said you seemed nice, which i guess he's not wrong about, " he smirked, an almost playful tone to his voice as he looked away from her again. butcher didn't like admitting when he was wrong or 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 help, but it was obvious that he didn't know what it took to help ryan with his powers, " he's inside with grace right now. he's scared of his powers, he hates them and fuck, if he chooses to never use them, i'm fine by that. but he knows he needs to learn to control them, " butcher tells her, knowing becca would be happy that he was doing this, she wanted ryan to not be like homelander and he was trying to make sure that happened, " just be patient with him, yeah? kid's been through enough, "

Take me to church, I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies, I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife. Offer me my deathless death. Good God, let me give you my life. Take me to church, I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies, I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife. Offer me my deathless death. Good God, let me give you my life. No Masters or Kings, when the Ritual begins, there is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin. In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene. Only then I am human, Only then I am clean, Ooh oh. Amen. Amen. Amen. Take me to church. I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies, I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife. Offer me that deathless death, Good God, let me give you my life. Take me to church, I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies, I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife. 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐲, whether that be physical or emotional. she had relied on elena to be the one to navigate her through their more difficult moments and in most of her past relationships, she would just remove herself from the situation and wait till the heightened emotions had calmed down, then she would find another way to make it up to them in a different way. sex was 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲 but intimacy scared the shit out of her. except if it scared her, it practically left ben frozen and he was looking to her help him through this. which was why she had to push through those feelings that made her uncomfortable and help him, she wanted this, she wanted him more than she ever could've expected. knowing how difficult it was for him to talk about his own feelings, but he was trying, made it easier for her to be able to be honest. after losing elena and having so many 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐬 about how things went down, how she had missed out on not saying anything about how she feels, she wouldn't let that happen again because she knows elena would've wanted her to keep fighting and to keep loving someone.

𝐛𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝'𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐦. sure, he was a good and fun fuck, but falling in love was the part she didn't expect, it caught her off guard and at first, it made her feel like she was losing it. realising that she didn't want anything to happen to him made her feel sick at first, she knew that if she felt like this, it meant that she had something to 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 and she already felt like she had lost so much. she didn't realise when she sent butcher and the boys to russia that would've meant they would find soldier boy. she had believed he was gone, just like everything one else and then he comes, it shifted everything and gave them some sort of hope that they could actually stop ares. but as much as she was scared to lose him, she felt better going into any fight knowing he was at her side. they worked well together, better than anyone had ever expected, they were 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐲 and fierce, it was something she had craved without realising she needed it. sure, her and homelander could work well together, but he had been selfish in a way that meant there wasn't always room for anyone else. which she had been worried that soldier boy would be the same, but he wasn't and the two of them just seemed to know exactly what the other was thinking in a fight, able to finish a move and it was seamless. he may have been unexpected, but now she would do 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 to keep him in her life and at her side.
𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝, her hand resting on his chest and she can feel the shift when he talked about russia and she could only imagine what he had gone through. she would do whatever she had to do to ensure that he never ended up in a place like that again, that he would get to have his freedom and enjoy his life. he would've fucking earned it if they were able to actually 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 ares and his washed up version of the seven. when he cups her cheek and his eyes meet hers, she can feel the way her heart is racing against her own chest and she almost wishes she couldn't feel it, it was distracting and all she wanted to do was hear him right now. yet she couldn't help but blink in surprise as he called her maggie, a name that felt like it belonged to a stranger considering how many people called her maeve over anything else. his words meant more to her than she knew how to say, she just smiled softly before moving from where she was, straddling his hips and hands move up to cup his face as she kisses him with a soft groan.
𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐬, feeling vulnerable but she knew that if he could try, so would she. ben was right, this was forever and she wouldn't ever take that for granted again, " i love you, ben. you and me? this isn't exactly what i ever expected, but i don't want to go anywhere without you, " maggie admits softly, teeth pulling on her bottom lip as she pulled back enough to look over him properly. he was 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥, a mess of dark hair, those green eyes that she couldn't stop looking at, the scruff of facial hair that she just loved. she had always thought he was attractive, like she wasn't blind or stupid, but seeing him in person and getting to know him, he became so much more to her than just the hero of heroes that he had always been. maggie knew this was it, he was her forever person and she knew elena would've wanted this for her. one of her hand moves through his hair as she moves to kiss him again, this time soft and gentle in a way that made her heart almost skipped a beat, " look, i don't know what the fuck is gonna happen with ares. but when this shit is over, or whatever happens, as long as we're together - nothing can stop us, okay? "

𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧, leaning on her elbow as she looked at him, sighing softly, " speaking of ares and trying to stop him, i have a crazy suggestion that i know butcher is gonna hate and it might be impossible to even do but, " maggie knew that if anyone would listen to her and have her back on any suggestion, it absolutely would be ben. but she also knew that she would need to get the others to agree before even taking it to butcher, " i think we need to try and find homelander and starlight. they disappeared but they're not dead, at least i want to believe they're not, " she tells him, looking away for a moment because it really did sound insane even to her, despite it being her idea. starlight would be an easy sell, but homelander? he would be the 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 butcher would ever want to ask for help. but she knew if they wanted to stop ares, they needed him, even if it pained her to admit it. as much as he had put her through hell over the years, she knew that strength was very much needed right now, " homelander may be the only person, apart from you, who is strong enough to stop ares . . . we're going to need him, "

" she asked, her voice devoid of any actual interest or care. victoria was no fool, she knew exactly what made this slayer so 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥, she had spies of her own throughout the city and she had been almost shocked herself when she had seen the photos of this new slayer. which was exactly why she was here, acting like she didn't care but only because if he figured out she was here to check up on him, he never would've let her in the room.

𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, she liked autumn and winter, the change in the seasons, the exciting holidays of halloween and christmas, the potential for snow. she had known what to expect when she was home in iowa and she had been figuring out what to expect from new york's weather. she didn't know what to expect now that they were living in the uk, all she knew was about the rain which she could handle, she wouldn't even mind the cold and snow. what annie hadn't expected was the sudden change in temperature, like how it went from feeling like summer one week and then the next, it was cold and she felt like she couldn't stay warm. she was wandering around their home in a large hoodie, hoping it would keep her warm and she still felt like she was shivering. how was john just okay with this? he barely seemed to 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 that the temperature had dropped. maybe all those years flying just built a tolerance up that she just did not have. considering that things were definitely not as tense between them anymore, annie also knew that he liked the idea of acting like the perfect husband, which she knew he wouldn't be likely to deny her request.

𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦, moving towards the living room where he was, teeth pulling on her bottom lip for a moment because he could say no. she just had to hope that he would not think this whole thing is ridiculous and he would see that she needed just a little 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭 and warmth right now. she would love to not feel cold for a short while. giving him a smile as she stood in front of him, " hey, i know the cold doesn't seem to be bothering you too much, but i'm really feeling it . . . would you be okay with just laying under the blanket with me, so i can finally not feel cold for a little bit, " annie asked, shifting on her feet slightly as she waited for his answer, her heart beating hard in her chest as she looked at him. she half expected him to just say no, to completely dismiss her attempt to get a little closer to him, but instead he surprises her with actually agreeing to her request causing her to smile at him widely. annie moves quickly, as if john might change his mind if she didn't move quickly. she moves onto the couch with him, laying beside him as best she could, pulling the blanket over the both of them and she got as close to him as she could manage, her head resting on his shoulder, one of her arms drapped over his stomach as she resisted the urge to put one of her legs over his. this was still far more 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 than anything they had done since they had ran away from vought together.
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐱 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐦, extremely grateful that he said yes and she couldn't deny how good this felt. to be pressed up against him, under the blanket and feeling warmer than she had in what felt like ages. this sudden cold weather had sent a chill through her that she could finally feel like it was thawing. plus despite her best efforts to ignore it, annie knew she was also just looking for an excuse to be close to john. this was definitely the most unexpected thing. realising she was starting to get feelings for homelander, no, for john. it had started small, just little things that made her feel less alone, then it was more curiosity, than daydreams, wanting to know more about him and helping him navigate all this unfamiliar things of a 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 life that he had never experienced. even the physical contact felt normal now, just small touches here and there when it was just the two of them. of course, the acting like a husband and wife when out and about in public was just part of it, it almost felt like whenever vought had sent them to do things and they were just following talking points. it was all the moments when it was just the two of them and no one could see them that made her heart race and yearn for more moments with him.

𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐩 𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐦, her hand moving to rest on his chest just above his heart. she had started noticing how beautiful john was a lot more recently. yes, she had always known he was attractive, like she wasn't blind or stupid. john was attractive and he always had been. but it was more the little details, the way his hair fell into his face now it was slightly longer, the way the light caught those blue eyes of his, the curve of his lips and the way he smiled at her when he thought she couldn't see it. yep, she was definitely falling in love with him and she didn't think there was any way of stopping it. annie also had no idea if he even felt the same, or whether this was just all part of playing the role to him, she doubted she would ever be able to get an answer 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 exposing herself in an emotionally vulnerable way that she didn't know if she could do yet, " thanks for agreeing to this. i'm usually pretty good with the cold, the winters could be pretty bad back home. i just wasn't exactly prepared for it to suddenly change, " she admits, though she was sure it just sounded like excuses and she could feel herself getting pink in the face, " wanna watch a movie or something? since i don't think we're gonna be moving for a while, "

𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟, with her mom gone and her dad trying to figure out a way to get her back, she had to be the one to look out for jack. they only had each other, she would do 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 for her brother and she knew that homelander had to be somewhat aware of that. why ask about him unless he was trying to gage reactions? tilly shifted in her seat as she looked away from him, not liking the sound of him coming back to give jack a present. jack was already confused by everything that happened, this would just make things so much worse. but how could she argue with him? if he wanted to come back, there was 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 she could do to stop him and there was nothing her dad could do either. yet when he asked about her dad, she looked back at him, hazel eyes darkening as he made fun of her dad. she couldn't fight him, she couldn't do that. she took a breath, hands moving up to rub her face as if she's trying to get rid of all the frustration she felt in her system, " he's working. he knows mom would want us to keep moving forward, " tilly can't look at him as she speaks about her dad. there was so much anger in her right now and she had no idea 𝐰𝐡𝐨 it was even directed at.

𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫, she didn't believe for a second that anything she said to him would make it back to her mom. maybe he just enjoyed the idea of tormenting her. she also didn't believe for a second that her mom was happy right now. she knew when her mom was forcing herself to act a certain way, she knew her mom was forcing every word out of her mouth and she had seen the way her mom was with her dad, she wasn't like that at all with homelander, " i miss her so much, " tilly admits softly, she knew that he wasn't going to tell her mom this. he may do so if it was jack, but not her, " it sucks not having her here. but as much as i miss her, i know jack really does and he still doesn't quite get why she can't come home or why he can't see her, " she may be showing all her cards again, but she really would do anything for her brother and if he just got a 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 to see their mom, it would be worth it to her. looking over at him, unable to hide the conflicting emotions on her face anymore, " i think we would just like a chance to talk to her. or at least give jack the opportunity, "
