Growing Up Disabled

Maybe I’ve always been this way.

Always in need of a helping hand

Always in need of more support.

Would my parents love me any more

If I was born

The way I was supposed to be

Without the pain

Without the awkwardness

Without the need?

But I grew up this way,

It’s all I’ve ever known

So why be sad

When I can be glad

That today is better than most.
