hi, i'm kacy. i'm a 15 year old girl who lives in detroit. i live in a raggedy 2 bedroom apartment with my single mother and autistic little brother. my mother is an entrepreneur (make-up artist) and has not been getting any clientele to sustain our lifestyle. she can not pay our phone bill, light bill, gas bill, car note, or suite rent, and her bank account is overdrawn. we can only use our phones when we have wifi, which is mostly at home. no one can contact us, and we can contact no one.

my mom does get disability for my brother but uses that to pay rent for our apartment. she also receives food stamps, but those are gone within 2 weeks. we eat healthily because of ongoing health issues, and that stuff is fairly expensive. my father is not in our lives and rarely pays child support. she has tried to find a job, but she either doesn't get a call back or things just don't work out.

i have been poor all my life, but this year has been THE worst year, financially. my mother has always been financially unstable due to her career choice. she could not buy any Christmas gifts. we have no family that we are close to to ask for help. only her stepmother, my nana, but she is also struggling financially.

my mother is afraid and is constantly looking out the window to see if they have taken her car due to her not being able to pay her car note. we are desperate, and i am scared. she will not let me work, not that i can anyway because in michigan, the legal working age is 16. my brother needs new clothes as he grows, and i am getting involved in more activities as i age. she needs help.
