Oh this is such a good question!

While I do have aspects that I love about both portrayals my overall favourite is undoubtedly Jeff’s.

In Time Bastard we get to see Tinky be absolutely deranged when it comes to fucking around with Ted, and Jeff manages to protrude that sadistic energy entirely. The laugh alone solidifies that for me. Jeff has such a way with playing unhinged characters (Hidgens in Workin’ boys, Aladdin in Twisted, The father in Trail to Oregon, etc) that I don’t think there is a better Starkid actor to play Tinky.

While Grace, Steph and Pete are acted as being scared in The Summoning honestly wasn’t that scary? For me at least? Idk it was more silly (don’t get me wrong I love The Summoning scene it just didn’t have that scare factor- I mean Curts dancing around in neon yellow). And while I do like Tinky having a more silly goofy side to him I prefer the portrayal of that having a more sadistic streak, as seen in Time Bastard.

I know that in The Summoning the LIBs “hold court in your own tongue and form”, (aka appear as teenagers) makes sense story wise and for a on stage preformance. But I’m a big fan of horror, so even the description Tinky being a:

“A solidarity figure. It wears a baggy, furry body- suit. It’s yellow and matted. Dirty. Stinking. Worst of all is its head. A motionless, demented goat mask. It has glassy, evil eyes, a slack jaw with big crooked teeth, a flopping wet tongue”.

Fuck so hard to me. That shit slaps ok. Tinky being refered to a “The thing”, “This creature”, “The nightmare goat”, in the Time Bastard script? Give me more of that please.

(I know that this isn’t particularly pertaining to Jeff’s portrayal, more of the script writing, but they go hand in hand. The script is only as good as the actors can make it. And Jeff does that description of Tinky so much justice).

All that being said- when it comes to drawing Tinky I prefer to draw him as Curt (plus a few extra things added to put my own spin on the design) due to that being his first human form portrayal. Also because I can’t draw goats.

Despite all this, I need it to be known that “oh boy! A spankoffski! I’m going to have the whole set in my toy box!” has and will continue to rot in my brain for many more months to come.

Hi so here’s a reblog with some of the closer up details because they got absolutely nerfed when I uploaded this. I need people to appreciate the fact that I was doing genuine pixel art at some points during this.

Also I’m just going to ramble a bit about this comic strip because ngl it’s completely self indulgent and full of personal hc’s. I also put in way too much thought into the symbolism of colour through each slide.

“I don’t really know if she cares or not” - This panel is the first one we see of Teddy, and the fact he’s entirely in blue with the only pink being the letter shows how Jenny has already left.

“All I Know is she left a lot of stuff in my apartment” - considering how Jenny died instead of leaving I imagine she left things in his apartment she was never able to come and collect, including the jacket we see her wear in every panel. This scene shows how intertwined their lives were together, with Jenny literally decorating his apartment (come on this man would not have any flowers in his room without it being Jenny influence). I also just littered my own personal hc’s, like Teddy skateboarding and Jenny roller skating, Jenny gifting Teddy rock/metal band pins, Ted having a pulp fiction poster (come on- he would), Teddy having a lot of cd’s etc. Also yes, the calendar shows October 17th, 2004. Yes that is Jenny’s bong. Yes those are porn mags on the floor.

“She’s never getting back” - Everything but Teddy in this panel is pink, showing how he’s desperately trying to cling onto what’s left of her (the jacket) while also destroying himself in the process (drinking & smoking). I could go on a whole separate text post talking about how self destructiveness is one of Teds main flaws but I’ll save it.

“As her smell of her pillow fades” - ngl I was just being cute with this one. But here we see them sharing each others stuff (Jenny with T-shirt, Teddy with the hair bobble). This is also where we first see the fact that they have matching earrings, each with each others colour. I personally hc that they got the ear piercings together while drunk and thus the act itself remains intertwined with each others presence. (Also yes that’s a goat hoof birthmark- blame booigi-boi for that).

“Her cigarettes might stay” - Full shot of Jenny, again with the earrings. Another hc of mine is that Jenny was the one who got Ted into smoking (she offered a cig when they first met, he took it because he didn’t want to seem lame in front of a cool girl. He then proceeded to cough his lungs out after the first drag while Jenny laughed her ass off. The rest is history). She would also totally bum cigs off him. Also you see the necklace? You know how Ted thought Kilgore gifting Jenny a necklace was pathetic? Yes well Teddy didn’t. He gifted her one for her birthday and she’s worn it everyday since. This just further empathises the difference between Ted and Teddy.

“Like a Roman Coliseum” - This is once again long hair Ted propaganda my friends. Teddy had long hair and after Jenny left he cut it because Jenny would always say how she likes his long hair. This is shown through the scissors themselves being pink, with Jenny cutting a part of Ted away.

“A dry and worthless monument to our love” - A close up on the photos in the apartment scene. I imagine Ted just has a load of pictures between him and Jenny. Again I was just being cute here, with them doing a photo booth together, Teddy falling asleep on Jenny, them posing for the camera. And my personal fav, then dressed up as Brad and Janet for Halloween (Ted learnt he likes men after seeing Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show when he was 15 my source is divine intuition).

“I still have your lighter” - Here we see Ted with his new short hair and the lack of earrings. Despite changing himself he was never able to kick the smoking habit he picked up from Jenny, the pink symbolising that despite it being 15 years there’s parts of her at still linger. (Nobody show this man I Don’t Smoke by Mitski I fear the consequences).

“I still have your book” - Don’t even try and convince me that letter doesn’t have permanent tear stains on it. I know he has re-read it a thousand times.

“I still have everything you brought, but you never took” - While Ted can’t stand the reminders of Jenny in his apartment he can’t bring himself to get rid of her stuff (even the flowers that have died). I imagine he has a box full of her stuff hidden under his bed or the back of a closet. (Also yes he does have all of the larger stuff shown in the apartment scene just imagine there in a separate box ok they were too big for the scene).

“You know where to find me” - the first scene where we see Ted without any actual pink on him, and yet he’s still not able to let go- always looking back at Jenny.

“And I know where to look” - Unlike Ted, Jenny isn’t looking back. Even has her hair covering her earrings, being fully pink. They both have each others colour for the text because despite parting ways they will always be interlinked, with Jenny being the cause of Teds change and Ted being the cause of Jennys death.

“(I’m not a crook-)” - I could technically say that Ted being represented by the disintegrator shows his destructiveness but honestly man I was just being evil here.
