In regards to Cole Cassidy’s introduction, I’d like to say something to the people who are going to refuse to change, think this is ridiculous or some distraction tactic by Blizzard that doesn’t solve anything.

I am someone who has suffered from PTSD as a result of childhood trauma. If you don’t know, PTSD is an anxiety disorder that is common in victims of SA, but it’s more often than not associated with war veterans.

I’d like to give an example of how something as small as a name could have a huge impact.

I am a big fan of the MCU and when I learned that Tony Stark’s first name was Anthony. I felt a weird (and irrational) sensation of pain and betrayal. It was a moment where I felt my heart stop and ache in pain. Why you ask? That was the same name of the man that ruined my childhood. That ruined me and threatened to hurt my mom in violent fights that involved the police on several occasions. I was suddenly brought back to all of that just by hearing his name. I am a logical person. I know that the two are completely unrelated but that small link is enough to make me pause, to make my breath hitch in my throat and my heart race.

Cassidy is different, his previous name was after this man because people thought that man was so great that he deserved it. To be immortalized in one of Blizzard’s most successful properties. Some of the players may not know that but the people that work at Blizzard know it. The victims know it and to hear his name screamed and shouted in Overwatch league with cheers and excitement, in videos on YouTube, on Twitch, in countless amounts of merchandise. It might feel inescapable for them.

The character and the awful man that committed those atrocities are not the same person. Not in personality, appearance, or anything but they do have the same name and having that name continued to be associated with positivity must be heartbreaking for the victims.

I support Cole Cassidy’s name change. I know that this does not fix anything that has happened. This does not compensate for the awful experiences and memories the victims are left with but I feel like it is a nice gesture in the very least and I feel like it’s incredibly insensitive and selfish to not follow the change because “I don’t like it” or “the other was better”

Update (sorry this is so long)!

Alright! First of all, thank you all for 105 followers! It's so insane and I'm so glad you all enjoy the stuff I make. It's been a while since I last posted, and I said that I would be posting more, but I didn't. So, I wanted to explain why.

The first reason that I haven't been posting is because of the lack of content. The only things we have been getting in Overwatch since the PVP OW2 live stream are the normal events, which I have been covering, but we haven't gotten anything pertaining to the lore of OW or OW2. That content drought has made it really hard to want to make theories about OW.

The second reason that I haven't been posting is that I've been busy IRL. I've been working throughout the summer and since I've gotten fully vaccinated I've been visiting family and traveling. Also, in the past few days, I've been getting ready for school. I haven't been physically in school since before quarantine, so I'm doing stuff to get ready.

On that note, the third reason I haven't been posting is because of my mental health. Being out of school for a year and a half has really negatively affected my social anxiety and taking time away from posting a lot has helped me.

Finally, the fourth reason I haven't been posting about Overwatch was because of the Activision Blizzard sexual harassment lawsuit. To sum it up, multiple female Activision Blizzard employees are suing the company for "sexual harassment and discriminatory practices" (article link). It's just really disgusting and I am hoping for the best for the victims. It was really disheartening to hear that they were being treated in the way that they were, so I didn't want to do anything that could promote the company more.

With that said, I will still be covering Overwatch in the future because I really love it, the community has really helped me when I wasn't doing great, and there are so many amazing women involved in the Overwatch community that should be supported, not berated, for working on Overwatch/OW2/OWL.

In the future, I will still cover the events when they happen, information about OW2 whenever we get some, and theories when I have the motivation to do so. If you are interested in the content I make about things other than Overwatch that I love, please check out my side blog. I will soon be talking about the Empire SMP, Knives Out 2, and In the Hall with the Knife by Diana Peterfreund if any of you are interested.

Again, thank you so much for the 105 followers and I hope you all have a great day or night! ~ Nova

Overwatch News: Activision Blizzard Update, What I was Hesitant to Talk about, and More.

Alright, there's a lot going and I want to go over it.

Firstly, Kim 'Alarm' Kyeong-Bo who was a flex-support player for the Philadelphia Fusion passed away on November 7th, 2021 at 20 years old. I was hesitant to address this, but I finally decided to. Here is the message directly from the Philadelphia Fusion.

Secondly, more than 100 Blizzard employees walked out this afternoon. The protest started around 12pm(noon) Pacific Time at the Irvine, California Activision Blizzard facility in protest of CEO Bobby Kotick. It was discovered that Kotick knew about the sexual misconduct claims and did not report the claims to the board of directors. If you are interested in reading more about the walkout, this is my favorite article that I read about it.

Thirdly, and finally, you have 1 week until Cassidy's New Blood Challenge is over; it ends on November 23rd. Here is a link to my previous post on the event if you are interested in the information. If you need a consistent Overwatch twitch streamer to watch to get the drops, I would recommend Emongg. He is an off-tank player who I personally really enjoy watching. He streams almost every day and his D.Va gameplay is awesome.

Anyways, I've been really busy with school, so I haven't had time to go over issue #1 of New Blood. I'll go over it as soon as I can. ~ Nova.

Overwatch/OW2 Updates + Fun News

Alright, it's been a second. My bad. I had a bunch of stuff to get done for school since my first semester just ended, but I'm here now with updates among other things.

1. I want to start off with the personal project part of this post. Since September, I have been working on something called the MYP project. Basically, you choose a topic, learn about it, and make a product out of it. I chose to make my project about the Gabby Petito case and I made a google site for it. I've put a lot of work into it since September, especially in the past week which is why this update is a little late, and I'm really proud of it. It will be getting's it's own post soon, but I still need to work out of few things.

Anyways, onto the video game news!

2. Microsoft is buying Activision-Blizzard. I think that it is a good thing, but there's still a lot of be determined. Like, I hope it helps with the sexual harassment issues in Activision-Blizzard, but we won't know until it happens. Here's a video about the issue:

3. Issue #3 of New Blood is out. It is available on the Overwatch website under the Media tab. It involves Baptiste and it teases that the next person Cassidy is looking for will be Zarya. I haven't read much of New Blood at all, so I've decided that I will probably just do one big post about New Blood once all five issues are out.

4. We've learned that a big reason for the Overwatch 2 delays is because of Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. Tracy Kennedy, an Overwatch producer, stated on Twitter that Kotick would "shove" projects on the OW team, who would work overtime on it, then those projects would get cancelled which led to developments being lost. Here's the tweet she made:

5. We might be getting Overwatch/OWL news next week. Mike Ybarra, the Head of Blizzard Entertainment, said that there will be an announcement in the next week, but this might not be about Overwatch since he is the Head of Blizzard, not just Overwatch. With that being said, we can hope that we'll be getting some information about Overwatch, especially since OWL will be starting in April. Here's a video by Stylosa that covers this really well:

6. If we are talking about Overwatch news, we might be learning about the 2022 Lunar New Year event. We can expect the Lunar New Year event to start in the next few weeks. This year is the Year of the Tiger, so we'll probably get a skin or two that is tiger-themed.

Anyways, if you got through all of that, thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it! Again, sorry it took a bit to get this out, school's been a lot. I hope you are doing good and I hope you are excited for all of the stuff to come, I know I am! ~ Nova.

Um... heyyyy... maybe choose a different new character to replace Bright...

Warcraft has a whole fuckton of money right now so I would reeeaaaally advise against naming a sneaky, sus af redhead...

Elias.

Shaw.

A SNEAKY. SUS. REDHEAD.

Almost the exact same name as Blizzard's SNEAKY SUS REDHEAD who they will probably defend with their lives because if their representation goes out the window, *DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUH* less money

All I'm saying is please don't accidentally get sued for plagiarism

I'm sorry but I find it insanely hypocritical how yall on Tumblr are like "NONO NO DON'T PLAY BLACK MYTH WUKONG THE DEVS HATE WOMEN NOOOOOOOOOO"

Yet continue to simp/kin for COD/Overwatch characters and play their games. Did yall really forget what happened with their devs years ago?
