A sonic boom is a shock wave produced when an object, such as an aircraft, travels through the air at a speed faster than the speed of sound. It makes a loud noise like a big "boom" because of the pressure waves it creates. This sound is often heard as a double "boom."
Sonic booms are common with fast military planes or experimental aircraft. To minimize the impact on the ground, there are rules for where and how fast these planes can fly.

Vol à Ouessant en WT9 Flight to Ouessant in WT9 Dynamic

En approche pour l'atterrissage... Approaching for landing…

We leave the continent to reach the Island of Ouessant… Ouessant is located straight ahead of us at around 25km, to the right of the nose of the plane, it is the Aber Ildut that we are following.

the Island of Ouessant seen from the sky from the west aboard the WT9 Dynamic. The continent is in the background of the photo (almost invisible) It’s the first time in my life that I’ve seen Ouessant so close. I had seen Ouessant once before but from higher up. There, I actually set foot on it, it was a fun experience for a coffee that was worth it. I wanted to take a photo on this island, in addition to drinking coffee there. This will be the subject of a future publication.

Landed in Ouessant… The landing went well but I had no doubts, I have an excellent pilot and the plane, a WT9 Dynamic, is really very comfortable. I remember that to leave, the takeoff almost came to an end. A big gull had decided to take the track as a playground and land there in front of us… But once launched to take off, it was difficult for us to make an evasive maneuver or even brake to wait for him to understand. He was hot but we were able to continue our momentum and take off (not without being hot too)

“This, otherworldly scene is like so much of #Iceland, still left untouched and yet, not discoverable by any other means than from above. Up there, you also discover a lot else. Like, for instance, how the powers of the elements have shaped the land to what it is. And how it will continue to do so, long after our days are over. A photograph is the testimony of that you were there. Sharing it, a testimony of that you've lived.
Maybe, if I'm really lucky, my photographs will continue to live somewhere and somehow, long after my days. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do sharing them. Be inspired and inspire!”

Disturbing Aerials Reveal Canada’s Vast Tar Sand Mines
Pulling oil from the tar sands of Canada is an ugly business. It scars the land with deep gashes, barren pits, and murky tailing ponds. It can be hard to grasp the scale of it from the ground, so photographer Stuart Hall rented a plane. What he saw stunned him. “There’s a lot of beauty in that place, but also a lot of destruction,” he says. “It’s like a bad marriage.”
Tar sands contain bitumen, a dense, highly viscous substance refined into oil, and Alberta sits on a deposit the size of New York. It supplies half of the oilthat flows into the US from Canada, the nation’s biggest supplier of foreign oil. The impact of all that mining fascinated Hall, a photographer who grew up in a coal mining family in Nottinghamshire, England. When he read about the massive sands six years ago, he knew it would be his next project.
