Zablife 2k Celebration

This is my small offering for Lee’s @zablife An Evening At Arrow House celebration- congrats again babe! 🤍 She’s not an official OC, but she is to me so I hope you don’t mind me bringing back the female lead from Betrayal for this one.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Betrayal, though the dark twist here is purely for the purposes of this story.

Til Death Do Us Part

I’ve known Tommy Shelby since I was four years old. He used to tease me for being six months younger than him. I used to kick him in the shins.

He stopped teasing me after a while.

In those dirty streets we lived and played and laughed and cried and fought and fucked. He was my first love and my greatest heartbreak. He was my last love and the father of my children.

I thought, once the storm had passed, we would be forever. Like he promised. The other half of my soul until the end of time.

But the past catches up with us all and the Changretta’s do not forgive. Their vengeance is merciless.

I am only grateful that they spared my children.

He grieved, of course, but apparently it doesn’t do for a member of the House of Commons to remain unmarried, no matter the heartbreak.

And now here she is. Mrs Shelby. Walking around my home like she owns the place. Is this how Grace felt when I arrived? I’ll never know, she isn’t here. Thankfully.

She’s so young. I want to scream at him. How could he replace me with this child? I know he’s lonely, but It’s beneath him. She’s terrible with the children - she has no idea how to be a mother when she’s scarcely ceased to be a child herself. She tried to dismiss Barbara… but I saw to that. Chiara regards her with quiet, watchful eyes. She’s getting so big. My miniature no longer - growing into her own self, though sometimes I see her father in her eyes. Mrs Shelby will need to watch out for that.

I hear Polly, whispering in the dark. She doesn’t trust this woman, and that’s good enough for me. Polly’s intuition is never wrong.

He doesn’t sleep at her side. He hides in his office as though he is ashamed of what he has done. Some nights he allows me to comfort him. Some nights he does not. But I am always there.

‘Til death do us part’ we said when we made our vows to one another.

What nonsense.

As if something as trifling as death would keep me from you, my love.

It has always been you, he used to tell me.

It will always be me.

Do not get comfortable Mrs Shelby. Because you see, that name does not belong to you. I have not finished with it.

Summary:

In the midst of the mayhem of awards season in February-March 2024, Cillian is hurtling around the globe, struggling to remember where he is at any given moment or even what time zone he’s in. With nominee events, pre-recorded TV and radio interviews, photoshoots, as well as debuting his production company’s first film at Berlinale, he doesn’t know if he’s coming or going.

But just because you’re a famous movie star, riding high as the bookies’ favourite for awards season, doesn’t mean life is easy. With her husband here, there and everywhere, Mrs M struggles with the realities of solo-step-parenting and not spending enough time as a couple. But when his eldest son, Eoin, makes an unexpected request, the craziness of awards season is only compounded by challenges at home.

Context

Set in the universe of The Lockdown Sessions and TLS - Oppenheimer Edition but you don’t need to have read either of those for this to make sense. All you need to know is that Cillian is a father of two boys, divorced from their mother and remarried to Mrs M for the last eight years.
