There's parallels between Matakara and Shindo that I think may be foreshadowing Matakara becoming antagonistic to Arajin down the line:

They both started out weak and victims to stronger people and grew to idolize people who inspired them to become stronger (Arajin and Mitsukuni for Matakara, Kenichiro for Shindo). They both value strength but that's where the similarities start differing: Matakara pursues an ideal that being strong comes with integrity. To Shindo, it's about control. Controlling the people around him and doing whatever it takes to get what you want, morals and code of honor are for suckers. Being a "strong man" is using whatever you have your disposal to gain it and if you do that, you've proven something, it doesn't really matter "how".

It's interesting how Mahoro sees right away the core of Shindo's character: he's hollow. He doesn't really stand for anything, doesn't have principles and his mindset earned the disapproval of the person he admired and strove to be like at one point. That's where his motivations stem from: Shindo is petty af and behind the drive he has to prove his way is the "right" way, he doesn't have much substance. I've heard people say some of his viciousness might be from his attachment to Ichiya but 1. It's debatable how much influence a Honki person has when they merge we still don't know too much about how the connection works and 2. We don't actually know much about Ichiya's personality, we just know Senya has a rivalry with him and something went down between them

With all that being said, I'm certain Ichiya is going to attach himself to Matakara and somehow it will result in Matakara similarly becoming antagonistic to Arajin and struggling to maintain his ideals or maybe he ends up becoming too extreme with them under Ichiya (and maybe his brother's?) influence?

And serious I am so fucking curious about how Mitsukuni is going to be involved with the plot. Why did he got to juvie? How strong is he? Does he know anything about Honki people? How I he going to react to Arajin being back and becoming so strong? (I'm assuming they at least knew of each other previously since Matakara and Arajin were childhood friends) What sort of person is he? Did he change being locked up? My brain is buzzing I can't stress how excited I am for what feels like Act 2 of this awesome show.

Maybe Ichiya saw potential in Shindo and that is why he attached to him but as time went on (especially from the final fight of the “first arc”) the genie may realize he chose wrong, the potential in growth was stunted. Or maybe after this we haven’t seen the last of Shindo, maybe his ideology was broken and he realizes he was wrong. Still evil, but he may try a new way?

I do hope Shindo is still in the story, he's enjoyable in that ridiculously over the top campy slimeball way. I'm curious to see if he's going to challenge Arajin again; that or he ends up also fixated on him lol. I still can't get over how hilarious it is Arajin is born to shoujo/ecchi and forced to shounen/bromance. But yeah, I hope he isn't out of the show completely, even if he's just a sort of first level antagonist. Can't wait to finally get more insight into what Ichiya's about too and the relationship with him and Senya.

Look, there's one thing that won't make sense if it happens in Bucchigiri, which is that Mahoro stays with Arajin because it's very clear that she doesn't like him. I don't know if Bucchigiri will be a yaoi but I would love it if it were possible to make several good couples and constructed assets.

Oh no doubt. Like maybe Mahoro won't see Arajin as much of a loser, but I highly doubt they'll actually get together. It would be super hilarious if Mahoro ended up fixated on Arajin as he gets stronger only for him to become more preoccupied with his conflict with Matakara, but probably not gonna happen.

Going by the director's previous work and, well, in general most anime won't just have canonically gay characters and romances unless it's explicitly stated to be a BL/GL/yaoi/yuri, etc. It's obvious they're going for the bromances, subtext, entendres, queer coded characters, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if we get actual lgbtq+ representation. Like if the narrative makes the subtext just text and there is a gay relationship in bucchigiri?! I would be so fucking happy.

I wonder what Senya meant by the time has come, will he possess Arajin's body and what do you think Senya is using Arajin to fight Ichiya?

It seems like Honki people (entities? Genies?) aren't able to have corporal forms so they need to latch onto someone strong enough as a vessel and Arajin is finally showing he has the strength and will to merge. Based on what little we have on Senya and Ichiya he wants to meet him again and fight him. Maybe he lost their last encounter? But it also feels like there's something else going on, something more than just Senya wanting to fight Ichiya. I guess we'll see.

The man is a delusional simp but like...it's super funny to me his main quirk among this cast of crazy is he's just a horny ass teenager who really wants a girlfriend and doesn't want to be in a gang war (guessing he got it from his in love with love mama)

Also, I do unironically dig how he was ready to take Mahoro's last name, no debate, no second thoughts, only how cute it would be cause Jin Arajin is the same thing backwards. Definition of "me and my girl don't fight she tells me what to do and I shut up and do it".

This is hands down the funniest fucking thing he has ever said an it so true.

If Ara was more like this throughout the show I would love him. Just someone who was 100% like "what are you talking about we are in high school chill the fuck out." I love how I paused right before mahoro says some outta pocket bullshit.

I know she is, she only cares about her brother. So she is really about to go full crazy OR cry and that's gonna make Ara idk do some bullshit.

I can understand why Arajin didn’t want to get involved with the gangs…….they all scare me😶 Matakara is cool, but if you always have a target on your back with the gangs inside your school and then people like the NG Boys outside of school it can get stressful for always being on high alert.

Like I fault him for being unreasonably cold to Matakara because of his own guilt over the past but he's totally within his rights to not want to be involved in a gang war where half of the people there have actively been giving him shit.

A link to this Twitter/X thread that I found by chance that describes Arajin’s character as a whole because some people on the Internet are way too harsh on his character.

I saw the post on tumblr talking about Senya that maybe he is gay, you know the anime doesn't talk much about Senya but I think that his color red and the other genie's color being blue must have some meaning, are they one? couple but they fought?

Honestly I'm guessing this is going to be another case of their relationship having more the subtext/undertones of being romantic than being acknowledged in series as gay (the intense way Senya talks about Ichiya and the way the narrative itself plays it out gives the implication it's a long standing rivalry and a failed past relationship). There's also how Arajin (red) and Matakara's (blue) estranged relationship mirrors Senya's desire to meet Ichiya once again; viewers are obviously meant to draw a parallel, and the tension between them now is also giving the vibe of past romantic relationship that didn't work out. If the writers do make Senya and Ichiya's relationship explicitly romantic (or they were once lovers at least) I would be one happy camper!

Arajin is attracting all the guys lol😆😆😆 I love it! He’s got good boy Matakara and now Shindo might be in a love hate relationship.

It kind of reminds me of Tsuna Sawada from Katekyo Hitman Reborn. He has a huge crush on this girl in his class but he basically keeps attracting a harem of dudes lol.

In your Whole New World fic, does Arajins sister know how to cook? This weeks episode (finally!) Mahoro not knowing how to cook was hilarious🤣 they censored the whole lunch.

Hm....I feel like reader in the story knows the basics from Yayako (in particular she enjoys baking because it's more about following clearly laid out instructions and "rules" so she feels more confident in how the final product will come out) but Arajin is very adamant about doing the majority of the cooking, like he worries about her getting lightheaded or overheated near open flames or accidentally hurting herself chopping/lifting something heavy. Except Arajin would say he's just taking over kitchen duties because he wants to impress girls with his cooking skills though.

What is happening to Matakara is breaking my heart.

Also, I didn't realize until Arajin said it outloud that Matakara didn't actually know this whole time he ran away from those bullies. Was that just me? I feel like that wasn't really explained prior. But whatever, as someone who lost an older sibling who was (always will be) my best friend, I legit started crying thinking Mitsukuni was already dead. Like wtf, when did this show get so real?

Also, also, totally off topic...but damn was Ichiya worth the wait. 🥵

Are there female geniuses in Bucchigiri? I thought about this after Senya said she wanted a family with Arajin, you know, they didn't even have any interaction, but I ship Senya with Ichya a lot.

Lol I think Senya just said that to distract Arajin from his question and there's the running gag double entendre about "merging" and what it means. Reminds me of when guys who really want to have sex might say "Uh, it's cause I want to start a family with you baby! I'm really serious about you so let's do it" or something like that.

I am curious as to whether there are any other genies at all besides Senya and Ichiya. Maybe they're the only two to exist in that world? Maybe there's others in other areas of the world?

Also, what is that smoky shadowy thing supposed to be? Is it a metaphorical image of feelings Matakara is struggling with? Part of Ichiya's powers/magic? I'm kinda confused still.

Do you think we will have a personality change from Matakara?

I mean I hope so; I doubt Matakara is going to completely abandon all his ideals but hes definitely in a vulnerable place. I'm glad we finally got him breaking away from his misconceptions about Arajin, though it sucks that it's looking like the outcome is going to be him being fed half truths by Shindo and possibly manipulated by Ichiya. It's interesting that both Ichiya and Senya are manipulating these two so they can settle whatever it is between them. It makes me think there's going to be a confrontation between Arajin and Senya sooner than later.

yesterday I watched bucchigiri and I was totally devastated by poor Matakara he has only suffered since the beginning of the anime. If at the end of the anime Matakara doesn't forgive Arajin I won't think it's a bad ending or if Matakara forgives him and doesn't want to be his friend anymore either I won't find a bad ending. I hope that at the end of the anime Matakara will benefit and not that he will suffer more.

Honestly I'd like them to be friends again and I feel like that is probably where the shows going to (especially with the emphasis on the two being parallels of each other and how the narrative seems to want the audience to root for them to make up) But if it ends with them amicably deciding to go separate ways I can see that too. I'm super curious how Matakara is going to act towards Arajin now that he's been essentially forced to see that the images he's had of him all this time isn't who he built up Arajin to be. As much as Arajin sucks at times, I couldn't honestly say I dislike his character; he's more just interesting to me, it's been a while since I've been so invested in seeing how a character is going to change or grow in the story.

Well, I've finished episode 8 and I have a few things to say. First, it's good that Arajin told Matakara the truth.

I'm sorry but arajin is a very annoying and intolerant protagonist I gave him a chance but after he was insensitive to matakara and treats his mother badly that's so sad .I hate other protagonists like takemichi who only beat up or denji who is a little cold but they managed to be a little sympathetic and sensitive to some situations unlike arajin who only cares about a girl who doesn't give a damn about him.

I will speak a vision that I always had of bucchigiri matakara and arajin were never friends I think they were neighbors and played together but matakara created an illusion about arajin this is a vision that I always had.

A vision? Like That's so Raven vision or do you mean headcanon? Not that it's a bad idea but the story makes it pretty clear both Arajin and Matakara remember being friends, just that Matakara didn't know during that incident Arajin had run away and that was why he ghosted him afterward. It would add an extra layer of wtf if it turned out Matakara did just imagine it all...

Also, are we not going to talk about how Matakara was flashbacking and literally says "after Ara-chan left me" like bro went through a divorce when he was ten and proceeded to spend the next five years trying to get over it by bulking up and joining a gang wtf? 😭

I like how throughout bucchigiri?! we're steadily learning not only that Arajin isn't as selfish as we're initially led to believe but Matakara isn't as innocent. Not that he's a bad person but he has a lot more flaws and baggage then the story let's on. There's hints of it from the beginning and now we're finally seeing the whole picture and it's exciting because I honestly have no idea how this is going to end.

Listen....ds nice as it is to see confirmation Zabu is alive and the excitement and dread that's steadily being built up for Arajin and Matakara's confrontation and the reveal of what happened to make Ichiya think Senya was looking down on him and all that drama....it is too funny to me that someone (Mahoro? Outa?) is holding a kebab under Marito’s nose like he's fucking scooby doo being bribed to consciousness with a scooby snack omfg 🤣🤣🤣
