Battle For Net Neutrality - Tumblr Posts

Really now the FCC chairman wants to come after our phones guys look we got to stop this everyone needs to pitch in and help to stop him he is already going after our internet but now our phones no that's where I say he nreds to back off so please help me and others like fighting for net neutrality

The FCC's Next Stunt: Reclassifying Cell Phone Data Service as 'Broadband Internet'
The agency is expected to make this change in February, which will make America's broadband situation look better than it actually is.

The Federal Communications Commission’s decision last week to repeal net neutrality was a major blow to internet freedom, but it’s only the first in a long line of actions that the FCC will take to tell itself that America’s broadband situation is better than it actually is. Up next: redefining high speed wired internet to include cell phone service. Because, according to FCC chair Ajit Pai, that’s totally the same thing.

This idea to reclassify smartphone data as broadband was first proposed in August, but with the net neutrality repeal out of the way, the FCC is expected to vote on the proposal by February 3. Currently, the FCC defines broadband connection as 25Mbps download speeds and 3Mbps upload speeds minimum. The new proposal would keep these minimums in place for fixed wireline broadband but also expand the definition to include cell phone data coverage.

This would not only camouflage many of the communities in the US with no access to the internet, but could prevent them from getting necessary funding to build that access. Cell service is often slower, more expensive, and comes with data caps, and even tethering a computer to a phone for internet isn’t a long-term solution, especially for families with multiple people trying to log on at once to do homework, or work, or watch Netflix.

“It seems antithetical to all the other efforts we’re doing,” said Deb Socia, the executive director of Next Century Cities, a coalition of municipalities aimed at expanding local broadband access. “I spent a good part of my life as a teacher and a principal. If I had a classroom full of children that included a lot of failing students, I wouldn’t change my standards [to increase the number of passing grades,] I’d change the intervention.”

Though the process to change these definitions is not as formal as what was required to roll back net neutrality rules, there was still an opportunity for groups to comment this summer, and if there’s enough public backlash, it could potentially meet a different fate. Like net neutrality, it ultimately just comes down to the FCC to make the decision, but groups like Next Century Cities are hoping to hold the agency’s feet to the fire in the meantime.

In January, the group is launching a campaign called #MobileOnly, challenging people to spend one day in the month using only their cell phone data for internet access—no laptops, no computers, and no Wi-Fi. It’s a challenge that’s so unappealing I refuse to even entertain the idea, but it’s one that millions of Americans will be left with as an only option if these broadband definitions are changed. Socia herself will be doing the challenge, as will the two Democrat commissioners on the FCC, Mignon Clyburn and Jessica Rosenworcel.

“Promoting deployment of mobile broadband services alone is not sufficient to bridge digital divides in underserved rural and urban communities,” Clyburn said in a press release for the campaign. “By standing together through this movement, we will demonstrate why it is so essential for all Americans to have access to a robust fixed broadband connection.”

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story stated that the #MobileOnly challenge was month-long, but participants are asked to pick just one day to take part.

Come on guys we need one more senator to make it official please see if your senator is helping save net neutrality if your senator is not helping send emails, lettes, or even find them on social media guys we can defeat the FCC like we did last time please don't give up

The Senate’s push to overrule the FCC on net neutrality now has 50 votes, Democrats say
The tally leaves supporters just one vote shy of the 51 required to pass a Senate resolution of disapproval, in a legislative gambit aimed at restoring the agency's net neutrality rules.

STOP SCROLLING STOP SCROLLING

STOP SCROLLING STOP SCROLLING

PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS THERE IS HOPE

Come guys we have less than thirty days to get one I say one more senator to stop the FCC from taking net neutrality away from everyone so please spread this like wildfire please guys see if your senator is helping to save net neutrality if not convince your senator to save net neutrality

Democrats are just one vote shy of restoring net neutrality
Senate Democrats are close to restoring Net Neutrality, but need one more Republican to join their cause.

I haven’t done an update on Net Neutrality in a while as I was trying to find a reasonable “next step”, especially since it’s been out of the “news cycle” for a bit. Well, I have some good news.

According to the senator (minority leader Chuck Schumer) from New York, they now have a total of 50 votes for a Senate resolution of disapproval that would restore the Open Internet Order of 2015 and deliver a stiff rebuke to Ajit Pai and other Republican members of the FCC. It would also prevent the agency from passing a similar measure in the future, all but guaranteeing Net Neutrality is permanently preserved

What’s stopping them now? They need just ONE more Republican and they have less than 30 days to do it.

So goes the next actionable step. You have to contact your senators and get them to suppose the Congressional Review of “the Open Internet Order of 2015″.

There are two ways to go about it.

1) Via 5calls.org using this script - https://5calls.org/issue/fcc-net-neutrality-cra

2) Via https://resist.bot/ - you can write to Congress using this site or  Text RESIST to Resistbot on Telegram, Messenger, or to 50409 on SMS. By providing basic information, you can write your Senator to move forward.

Now, if you got a Democratic Senator, push them on to find that one Republican Senator. If you got a Republican Senator, encourage them to reconsider their stance on Net Neutrality.

We just need ONE Republican Senator and we have less than 30 days to do so.

Come on guys April is around the corner so please call your senators and representatives and tell them to support net neutrality if ajit kills the internet the lower and middle class will suffer and young people like will suffer more because we are working or going to school or both so PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES

Net Neutrality is Dead and You Can Expect Your Internet to Change on April 23rd

Yeah, no, I’m cross-tagging because the lack of attention this is getting overall is pissing me off.

Ajit Pai killed Net Neutrality. You’ll start seeing the effects you were warned about on April 23rd. Oh, and he apparently got an award for Courage from the NRA gun nuts, too.

You can still help by calling your senators and representatives. We just need ONE MORE PERSON on our side to get the senate portion of Congress to overrule the FCC’s decision to kill net neutrality. The battle for the net won’t end there, but it’s a start. Go to battleforthenet to find out who your reps are and where they stand, and CONTACT THEM.

Twenty-three states are also suing the FCC for this. I haven’t looked into it yet, but I assume big businesses like Google and Amazon are as well. Nevertheless, we can’t rely on lengthy lawsuits alone. The changes to your internet start in less than two months. We don’t have a whole lot of time.

Blow this up. Contact your reps. Please, do something! We HAVE to get the decision overruled!

Guys we need that one vote to save net neutrality so please call now tell everyone that you know we have until April SO CALL NOW!!!

This post is being ████ by your Internet service provider.

LISTEN UP!!!!!! NET NEUTRALITY ENDS APRIL 23RD

This Post Is Being By Your Internet Service Provider.

We put up a good fight…but now we only have 60 days to turn this around. There is still ONE thing we can all do!!!!!

There’s something called the Congressional Review Act (CRA) that can be used to stop the FCC. We just need ONE MORE VOTE to win the Senate!!!

This Post Is Being By Your Internet Service Provider.

For those who missed my last giant post a few months ago, last year, the FCC voted to repeal the Obama regulations designed to protect a fair and open internet. If these regulations are knocked down, providers like Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon will have EVERY RIGHT to slow down internet speeds to those who aren’t on their more expensive plans. Even further, they have the power to censor and regulate what we see online.  MORE  further, they’d even have the power to slow down competitors’ streaming speeds, like Netflix, to make their own services more appealing. THIS SHIT IS NOT RIGHT!!!!!

First thing you can do is to GET OFF YOUR ASS (OR ON IT IF YOU’RE AT A COMPUTER…) and take 20 seconds to sign this!!!! Second thing is to SHARE THIS CAMPAIGN WITH EVERYONE!!!

SIGN THIS!!!! https://www.battleforthenet.com/onemorevote/

This Post Is Being By Your Internet Service Provider.

There’s going to be a huge protest on Feb 27th that I’ll be taking part in. The above link goes into detail on what YOU can do on that day. Please guys. Don’t just sit there and let this happen. THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE! THIS IS OUR INTERNET!!!! NOW FUCKING DO SOMETHING!!!!

Come on guys I know sound like a broken record but we are so close but so far we need that one vote here are the people that haven't support net neutrality so please call them and email them we have until April so do what you can to save net neutrality

This Is The Next Move To Restore Net Neutrality

This is the next move to restore net neutrality

If it feels like you’re fighting battles on every side, you’re not alone. The struggle is terrifyingly real. But we can still make this year the best possible version of 2018 it can be. There’s a new opportunity in to restore strong net neutrality protections: The Congressional Review Act.

What is the Congressional Review Act?

The CRA lets the House and Senate repeal administrative laws—rules and regulations set by governmental agencies—with a simple majority in both houses. The resolutions can’t be blocked by leadership, amended, or filibustered.

This congress has used the CRA more than any other to overturn regulations that protect vulnerable people and the environment, but this time we can use it for a good purpose—to reverse the FCC’s decision and restore net neutrality.

We just need #OneMoreVote

Battle For The Net has secured commitments from 50 senators. One more and we can take this fight to the House. These are the targets:

John Kennedy (Louisiana) | 202-224-4623 | Email

John McCain (Arizona) | 202-224-2235 | Email

Orrin Hatch (Utah) | 202-224-5251 | Email

Dean Heller (Nevada) | 202-224-6244 | Email

If you live in these states, we need you. Even if you don’t, you can still help the cause.

Go to battleforthenet.com to write or call your representatives.

Tell them to support the “Resolution of Disapproval” and overturn the FCC’s December 14 “Restoring Internet Freedom” vote.

Come on guys we need to get this story back on top and we to stop ajit pai from taking net neutrality if net neutrality taking away a lot of artist or small business but mostly everyone will be affected by this so please reblog this and spread the word and find representative or senators that haven't join the fight to save net neutrality and contact them tell them why we need to save net neutrality so please help people like me and others fighting to save net neutrality

We NEED to get Net Neutrality trending again.

This is enough. Ajit Pai has already succeded MULTIPLE TIMES and you can expect the full removal of net neutrality on APRIL 23RD OF THIS YEAR. We can still contact our senators, we can still fight as hrd as we can, but even though 23 states are suposedly suing for the repeal of this, we need to help it along.

In case people forgot what Net Neutrality is: it is a series of laws that ensure everyone free and fair access to the internet. Without them, you will be charged for the sites you use on top of an already high internet bill. This means creators like us cannot post and be seen. Thia means that smaller schools will havebto switch to out of date text books. This means that starter IT projects that could make our lives better will die because noone can support an online presence that noone can afford to see.

And the list goes on and on and on. I have frienda who have to make their livings through commissions and working online because of multiple health issues. I have friends trying to publish books, post art, post voice acting snippets that will not be seen without these laws.

Please support Net Neutrality and contact your senators!!! This is so important to everyone you know, AND WE JUST NEED ONE SENATOR TO TURN THE TIDE!!!

How Net Neutrality will Recede Post-April 23d, 2018

The Following text is copied from the thread of the official twitter of fightforthefuture.org:

How Net Neutrality Will RecedePost-April 23d, 2018

@fightfortheftr (April 19, 2018): There have been a lot of inaccurate reports that the FCC’s repeal of #NetNeutrality will officially go into effect next week on April 23rd. That’s not true. It’s a bit more complicated than that. Ready? Here we go:

Its understandable many journos are confused by this. It’s legitimately confusing. The FCC order said it would go into effect 60 days after publication in the Federal Register, which would have been April 23rd. But, it still has to be approved by the Office of Management & Budget.

There was another FCC filing in the Federal Register that would imply the earliest the OMB could approve this (and its worth noting that approval is basically just a technicality) is actually April 27th, but its likely to happen some time after that, possibly even weeks after.

The most important thing for EVERYONE to understand is that nothing catastrophic or dramatic is going to happen immediately when the FCC rules go into effect. Telecom shills will immediately start saying “See? The sky didn’t fall, we never needed #NetNeutrality.“

They’re lying.

The ISPs aren’t going to immediately start blocking content or rolling out paid prioritization scams. They know Congress and the public are watching them. Rather, the death of #NetNeutrality will be slow and insidious. You might not even notice it at first.

And that’s the worst part. What will happen is over time ISP scams and abuses will become more commonplace and more accepted. They’ll roll out new schemes that appear good on their face but undermine the free market of ideas by allowing ISPs to pick winners and losers.

Over time we’ll see less awesome startups. Less awesome videos. Less diverse online content. And we’ll see more content that our ISPs want us to see. The Internet will be watered down and manipulated. It will change forever in ways that harm our democracy.

But it will take time.

So: don’t fall for ISP lobbyists talking points. They’re ALREADY claiming that #NetNeutrality was never needed since the sky hasn’t fallen, and the rules haven’t even gone into effect. But also don’t panic. The Internet is not going to die next week. Keep calm and keep fighting.

The Senate will vote in a matter of weeks on a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to block the FCC’s repeal. Now is the moment to get engaged.

Everyone: take action at http://BattleForTheNet.com

Small businesses: sign this letter http://BusinessesForNetNeutrality.com

Retweet & spread!

Net neutrality is officially dead today, but the fight to revive it lives on
Net neutrality’s protracted, multi-phase death scene has finally come to an end with a whimper as the FCC rules proposed in May, voted on in December, and entered in the Federal Register in F…

A few things to keep in mind about Net Neutrality ending:

Net Neutrality is only ending partially, as it will still take time for the final approval from the Office of Management and Budget

Net Neutrality does not mean you now have to pay a package price to have access to specific websites

It means ISPs can give internet “fast lanes” to those who are willing to pay for it, and make fair competition and new business more difficult (and other potential shady practices)

However, because the decision has not been finalized completely, it still may take time before anything noticeable happens

States have begun to form their own policies on Net Neutrality and lawsuits are being considered

Also, Net Neutrality is becoming a bigger issue for upcoming elections, so please continue to keep Net Neutrality in mind when voting in the next couple of years.
