Any ideas?

My current writing project is in desperate need of some small, filler plots to make the story a few hundred words longer.

(For context, this is a book about the apocalypse in Christian theology, centered around a 16-year-old boy who has to die so the end can happen. Specifically, its a version of the events that happen in the Book of Revelation in the Bible.)

Almost any ideas welcome (barring anything dealing in politics or romance, please)

What if there was an anime or manga that the main characters lost agaist or died fighting the villans? And the hostages fought agasist them and won. Then the took back the world but little did they know a new challenge was coming?

I don't know why but for some reason I really love the dark, twisted and toxic YA romance books where the protagonist has shit relationship with the family and in the end they are the antagonist and the protagonist leaves them for good
