Catch 22 - Tumblr Posts
Hey, a flashback! Good to see you trauma brain; it's been a minute.
I must have looked deranged at the grocery store.
I was always in a RUSH. That was because he gave me a time limit, which was always arbitrary, based on what he considered acceptable. Needless to say, I always took too long, but that didn't stop me from trying to meet his unattainable standards.
I would double check, triple check my grocery list in a panic and talk myself through recipes out loud to ensure I wasn't forgetting any of the ingredients. Owing to the unreasonable time constraints and sleep-deprived state he kept me in, naturally I missed things. And realizing this upon walking in the house would make me break out into a sweat. Imagine being terrified and feeling sick because you forgot to purchase a sweet potato.
Occasionally the store would be out of something we needed. If I tried to explain, he'd accuse me of lying to cover up for being stupid and forgetting something. I started taking pictures of the empty shelves to defend myself, but then he'd ask why i didn't go somewhere else. If I did, there would be a penalty for the extra time it'd take to head to the other store.
There was also immense pressure to get it all done Correctly. What that meant changed week to week, moment to moment. Did i buy the right colour of pepper? He said he wanted turnip, but did he actually mean rutebega? What flavour of chips have i purchased in the last 8 weeks.? He said he wants 'healthy' granola bars but to 'make sure they dont taste like shit' with no further explanation, what does that mean? Getting an answer wrong was BAD. He might throw it at me, or slap me, or scream in my face. Best case was an eye roll with a retreat to the basement.
I made the Wrong Choice so often, the grocery store itself became a trigger.
Love this movie.
“That’s the kind of humor in the face of adversity that keeps America strong!”
Catch-22 (1970) dir. Mike Nichols
Some complications illustrated inside it especially for its infamous cast of sorts.
For here also.
Imagine what can be learned from inside of the woman's likething (example).
This should be spread to those of us who are disabled or know someone who is, especially if working in the medical field. As me & my wife give support for a truer kind of marriage equality (with a budding family along the way), I give my full support to those in need in other ways than the monetary, & please heed (consider) that being able to give support from beyond borders is just as important as local ones.
I love talking about this so here's another instance of me talking about it: during the 504 Sit-Ins, wherein disabled activists occupied federal buildings in 1977 demanding better protections from the US government as they delayed enacting the regulations set forth in 1973's Rehabilitation Act, specifically the section entitled 504, which was supposed to provide better access to education and employment for disabled people, and the accommodations needed for such.
The activists, disabled or sick in a variety of ways, occupied multiple federal buildings across the the USA. The occupation of 50 United Nations Plaza Federal Office Building in San Francisco lasted 26 days, the longest of the protests, and I believe the longest occupation of a federal building in the USA's history.
The protest was spear-headed and led mostly by disabled women, many of them queer disabled women.
The length of the occupation was only made possible by the support of the Black Panthers, who brought food to the activists daily and stood their ground against the FBI when the feds tried to stop them from entering the plaza in an attempt to starve the protesters out. The Black Panthers then proceeded to bring hot meals every day for the rest of the protest, which ended with the enactment of the 504 regulation
Moral of the story: mass movements and protests work better when you have solidarity among various movements who, while initially fighting for different people, are all fighting for a common goal--rights, safety, empowerment, etc--and the Black Panther Party was demonized by the federal government and individual authorities not only because they were they fighting for the rights, safety, and empowerment of Black people, but because they were fully capable of and did bring unity among the many civil rights groups fighting for the individual causes, in a way that would have enacted great change in this country had they not been infiltrated and destroyed from within, arrested on bs charges, or flat out murdered by the federal government.
Anyway the history of disabled rights are unknown even among the modern disabled, the involvement of the Black Panther Party is even less known, and without the 504 regulation laying down the base foundation we probably wouldn't have the ADA so here's your history lesson informing you about all this. And thank you Black Panthers ✊🏿♿✊
😍 Gorgeous. I am pulled drastically towards character design, let alone the waves of emotion goozing through my head. 🥰😘💖💗💝🌠

i started this in november of 2021, i finished it TODAY, after forgetting about it for months at a time, coming back to work on it, deciding i hate part of it and fixing that. i still think its a bit too busy, and the sketching definitely could’ve been done better now than when i started it, but im just glad to have it finally done. originally intended for this to be a more interesting redo of an ensemble drawing of all the catch characters that i did in 2020 i think, with the cast being more distinct and (hopefully) recognizable.
continuing to experiment with cartoon style stuff and I just finished my catch 22 reread, so here's a little character design exploration ! I tried to capture my mental images from when I first read the book in high school, uninfluenced by the movie versions
I’m currently facing a similar issue, my smartphone broke and I don’t really want to buy a new one until after Christmas so I got myself a little flip phone for the time being. I have an iPad so I kinda figured I could just do the stuff I did on my phone on my iPad, only issue was my banking.
In Sweden we have a digital ID called Bank-ID that you use not only for identifying yourself when you want to do some banking, like checking your balance and such, but also when you want to identify yourself when logging into medical stuff, like renewing medication prescriptions, and just generally shopping online.
Now since my old smartphone is completely dead, I can’t access my Bank-ID and need to make a new one, I figured I could just have it on my iPad for now, only problem is that to get a new ID on my iPad, I need to have an already existing ID verify that it’s me.
I’ve called the bank and they told me that I can create a new one by just taking a picture of my national ID card or passport, but to be able to do that I need to have a Bank-ID already in place. Banks nowadays don’t allow you to just walk in, take a number and wait, instead you need to book a time online. To book a time online I need to state what it’s about and answer a few questions. One of said questions being “Do you have a national ID card or passport?” “Yes.” “Well then you don’t need to book an appointment and can do it at home!” And reroutes me back to the start page…
I can’t do it at home bc my iPad doesn’t let me. So I’m stuck in this never ending soul sucking bureaucratic loop of not being able to identify myself anywhere. I can’t check how much money I have without going to an actual ATM (Sweden is a fairly cashless society, so this is quite rare) and I’m running out of my medication and have no idea if I have any more to take out or if I have to renew it, and I have no way of renewing it because I don’t have a Bank-ID.
I hate it here.
