I'll be using Adrasteia (Kairi) from Crown of Blood (working title):

Who inspired your OC?

I don't think any single person did. More like I had a cool story idea and made a character that I thought would make sense with that kind of premise, and sprinkled in traits and attributes from myself, people around me, and/or just things I thought were neat.

I've used this one before, but probably A Little Wicked by Valerie Broussard? There are a few others in my playlist that I like to listen to when writing her, but none of them fully 100% capture her (or at least the parts of her I want seen at the moment) like this one.

If I met your oc on the street how would they greet me?

She wouldn't. If she was making an official trip, you'd be obligated to bow and greet the princess of the nation, and she'll decide if you're worthy of a response lol. If she's in disguise, it'll be by unceremoniously appearing in front of you and demanding whatever it is that she's after.

Can your oc be your best friend? why?

Absolutely not. She'd probably either pretend I don't exist or outright kill me for getting in the way of her plans, lol.

Crown of Blood (unofficial title)

WIP Intro

Genre: Dark Fantasy, Suspense, Political Intrigue

POV: First person

Warnings: Blood, violence, death

Setting: Pseudo-Medieval European and Japanese fusion fantasy kingdom

Summary: Kairi never considered what would happen when she died. She always figured she’d find out when the time came. She never realized that time would come so soon. After a freak car accident, she wakes up not only in a life not her own, but in one that is all too familiar. 

She finds herself in the world of the last book she read as none other than the main antagonist, the dreaded Princess Adrasteia. Now, Kairi must scramble to not only survive a new and dangerous life filled with more enemies than allies, but to change the course of her own ending. But nothing-and no one- are as they originally appeared, especially compared to what Kairi remembers from the novel. And as for Adrasteia… it seems she isn’t as “gone” as Kairi might have thought.

Worldbuilding in Five Tag Game

Another super belated thanks to @athenswrites for the tag! I LOVE worldbuilding and talking about my worldbuilding, so this is perfect lmao. For this one I'll be using my WIP, Crown of Blood. It's the only one I have decent inspo pics for. None of the images are mine! I found them on Pinterest!

"Rules: post 3-5 images of a place in your world and tell us a bit about it."

Castle Pieris

(Name is a placeholder.) Technically belonging to the king, it's the current permanent resident of Princess Adrasteia, as a gift for her birthday. As King Silas III has yet to bequeath a castle unto the rest of his children, it's largely accepted as a blatant act of favoritism. Previously the stronghold belonging to a warlord of Sylvatica (a nation-state-turned-province after being conquered some decades back), it served as a holiday villa for several generations of Adecian royal families).

As such, there are centuries' worth of wards, traps, and other tricks (both magical and mechanical) built, powered, and neglected by both Sylvatican and Adecian residents. Magic is etched into each beam and brick.

Pomari Town

One of the closest and most prosperous towns near the Palace. A bustling place that still manages to feel small, despite being so full of life. Lilia (the protagonist of the original story) and her mother live on the outskirts.

Pomari specializes in small magic craft productions (such as potions and talismans), as well as fashion. There are plenty of guilds in the area. The residents are primarily merchant class, with the occasional lower-end nobles occasionally residing there during the on-seasons in secondary town homes. The peasants that live there are usually employed as commute cleaners and servants, with properties closer to the edge of Pomari. (I'm not the best at economics so I'm definitely going to be workshopping this more at a later date).

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! Do your characters have any particularly interesting fashion choices? What are they and why?👔🥻👘👗👚🛍

HOW DID I MISS THIS??? I'd wait to answer this tomorrow to be another Worldbuilding Wednesday, but I don't want to! Thank you for the ask! For this one, I'm choosing to go with my Crown of Blood WIP, since it's one of the few that I actually have kind of a plan for AND isn't just IRL casual clothes, lol.

For Crown of Blood, it widely varies by region, as well as social class, but most if it is medieval era Western (and East Asian!) clothing. I don't really know how to explain the fusion quite yet, but basically for Adrasteia specifically, she has a wider range because she's literally royalty and can therefore afford import costs. Her outfits range widely from more standard traditional clothes to clothes that have a fusion in terms of cuts and patterns. Skirts that wrap and tie, but are shaped kind of western, etc. Think some of the fancier clothing in Meiji period Japan as well as the mutual Eastern influences on Edwardian England and France.

There's an article about it on "lilyabsinthe.com", and while I don't know the validity or full accuracy of these claims, either way I liked the idea and want to explore it more. I've seen more modern examples of ideas online, of people mixing traditional and kinda modern pieces that I like, but I unfortunately don't have any on hand (it is VERY messy in my phone lol). But I'll leave it here because it's getting WAY too long haha.

The commoners/less obscenely wealthy, I'm thinking of a few ideas for. I initially was curious about the idea of clothing similar to some minority subgroups (I was particularly fascinated with Ainu and Nivkh clothing), but then I realized that might come across as insensitive/sending a bad message, etc. So I think I'll leave that for another story. My current idea is to have either medieval western clothing or even older East Asian clothes, though I haven't 100% decided which one is better/simpler etc. I'll have to determine the weather first. Obviously since this is an empire, there are definitely other cultures and societies that all make up the bigger entity. So they're not going to all have the same clothes, even amongst commoners if they're from different regions.

I think I'll have to determine the weather/terrain and culture of the regions first. The main hub of the empire is kinda woodsy with various bodies of water (but no ocean), so they might traditionally opt for tighter fit clothing- but I mean, Europe had plenty of forests, and people still wore long skirts, so... maybe I'm just trying too hard!

This is DEFINITELY too long now so I'll cut it here! Basically I've no clue yet, but I'm really fascinated by the idea of a fusion! Thanks again for the ask!

Stuffed crab and black wine. It was the main entree for my coming-of-age ceremony. Our chefs came up with it just for me.

Heeyyyy hope you don't mind, I found one of the pictures I was talking about when I made that post about fusion fashion!

This was once a furisode that was turned into a tea gown! I wish there were more examples, but so far this is the only actual image of a real physical example. I just really love the idea of mixing patterns/fabrics and cuts to create new styles!

As I said before, I've found a lot of more modern examples, which aren't exactly what I'm looking for but they're the closest I have besides this! They're mostly Taisho-era-style, but some of them mix other stuff in and I think it's so pretty!

Like, I just LOVE the half-corset + blouse + kimono-style top overlaid! I realize Japan/east Asia already kinda "remixes" Western clothing in a way that makes it more to their own tastes, but I'm envisioning that kind of spin on more historical clothing. I haven't pinned the eras or specific countries down yet, but I'm getting there!

A lot of the "medieval" clothes are usually drawn and don't have physical examples either, so it's always a gem when I can kind of find something to bounce around in my head!

Some of these aren't Japanese (I know a few of them are Chinese, not familiar with the others), but I tend to focus on that since that's what I know. Still, I really like the other styles as well, and I think they're great inspiration, so I added them too!

Ok I think I did enough now, lol. Sorry for going on and on! I just get really excited. Do you also have any inspo pics/stuff that you're planning for your WIP? I'd love to know!

Original Adrasteia (and Lilia?):

Ironically, she kind of already has a canon opposite. I hadn't intended it that way necessarily, but when envisioning who would be her exact and total opposite, I realized I already have one in Lilia, lol. Lilia is kind where Adrasteia is cold. While Adrasteia is conniving and manipulative, Lilia is honest and earnest. Adrasteia is largely jaded, with tiny spots of vulnerability that she desperately hides and buries. Lilia is somewhat naive and open, despite her upbringing, with rare moments of strength. Not even she always knows what buttons need to be pressed to set her off- essentially, the quintessential "perfect female protagonist" seen in many fantasy romances. As such, Adrasteia is her "perfect villain".

Cassius:

His opposite would be someone who comes across as awful or mean or off-putting, but is actually really nice and genuine. Probably socially awkward, a really bad liar, and not very conventionally attractive. Also poor (omg same). Someone largely unambitious and go-with-the-flow. They'd also be pretty bad at fighting, and probably doesn't have magic.

The Whitehalls (This is multiple, but honestly they're all very similar):

Charitable, good-natured people who just want to see the world become a better place day by day. Loves their family members and wants them to just be healthy and happy, wherever they end up in life. Wouldn't care about social status or politics at all (beyond doing their part to make the world a better place)! Surprisingly good in a fight, very brave people!

Fenris:

A very chill, calm, open person who is super secure in themself and doesn't use false bravado and arrogance as a coping mechanism. Very knowledgeable about the world and has a really good relationship with their family. Has all the love and security they need in life and has clear and realistic goals that they're actually capable of achieving. No magic, but they're academically gifted and has lots of genuine friends. Probably really self-disciplined.

Rate OC Cuddles Tag

Felix: 10/10. Amazing. Doesn't matter what part of the timeline. Has mastered the correct amount of pressure and tightness with which to wrap his arms around people. Dedicated to his craft. It helps that he always smells nice, too.

Adrasteia: -10/10. Why the fuck would you ask. She hates you. Did you know that? Now you do. This isn't a hug. She's planting evidence in your pocket. She's trying to strangle you, very slowly. If not, she's thinking about it.

Katsuko: 7/10 on a casual cuddle. Would be better, but she squirms a lot/can't keep still for long, so she doesn't usually try. She also doesn't hug anyone she doesn't know VERY well. Like her mother. Or her wife. Basically only people who have seen her naked before. If she's actively in a cuddling mood, though? 9/10. Determined hugger.

Kai: 6/10. As far as tweens go, he's okay. Doesn't like cuddles much, especially not from older people (which is fair). Usually only cuddles his mom, who's biased anyway. Smells weird though.

Seraphina: 2/10. Will not even hug her parents. Her clothes are too expensive. Has hugged a stranger, once. Burned her clothes after and then had her butler egg their house.

My family’s home was at the end of the cul-de-sac of one of the oldest neighborhoods in town. The steps of our cedarwood porch were sunken from years of enthusiastic abuse and creaked with each step. Mom always complained and said it would break one of these days, but she’d been saying it for years, the same way Dad always said he’d fix it. The welcome rug was sun-bleached and almost shredded, but it was clean.

Mom beat it every week with a broom to get the dust out, insisting it was still good. It was threadbare and probably older than me. Dad always told Mom it was ugly and they should get rid of it, but Mom would probably get around to it when Dad finally got around to fixing the porch.

This doesn't exactly line up with the prompt, but it's the one quote like it that I've got written out! I can only hope I haven't used it before, lol.

Honestly, I haven't really considered the heights of most of my characters, besides probably "tall", "average", "short", or heights relative to each other (x is taller than y, etc.) But this seems fun!

Before you ask, yes, I intentionally made a lot of them unreasonably tall, and I do this for ✨worldbuilding purposes✨, as I intentionally am leaning into certain tropes for plot reasons. Not so say I needed a justification, but I'd just like potential audiences to be aware!
