You know what the media doesn’t tell you about pregnancy?

It is kind of like a second adolescence. Everything about your body is about to change, AGAIN. Hair will grow, some parts of you will get bigger, you will be insatiably hungry at times, growing pains are back and worse than the last time, and your body is flooded with hormones that will make you feel and sometimes act crazy.

There is a reason that a lot of women throughout time saw it as a rite of passage. There are literally tens of thousands of years of culture centered around childbearing. There are entire scientific schools of thought centered around the idea that all animals (humans included) are just looking to procreate as their sole purpose in life (but that is a discussion for another time).

Should this second adolescence be a rite of passage for all women? Absolutely not. But we should recognize that there is a long history and physiological changes associated with pregnancy that mean the viewpoint isn’t going to change overnight. And a person finding themselves through pregnancy is just as likely as someone finding themselves in adolescence and that shouldn’t be ridiculed to perpetuate a male-centric view of feminism.

obviously theres only been one episode so i cant speak to the entire season but when the showrunners for house of the dragon said there wasnt going to be sexual violence against women, the sexual part was very, very heavily emphasized, but just because there isnt sexual assault doesnt mean there isnt extreme violence against women, and honestly the super fucking graphic scene in the first episode of a forced c section that she knew would kill her, while she was being held down by the people who were supposed to be caring for her and screaming for her life, might be more horrifying than anything game of thrones did, especially in the context of the fall of roe in the US, so like, dont go into this expecting it to be kind to women. it is just as horrifying as before, under the justification of “historical accuracy” but idk man, maybe in a world with dragons and magic we dont need historical accuracy

I wish people would stop fucking using passive tense when talking about pregnancy and childbirth

The baby did not 'arrive', someone spent months growing it inside their body, sometimes with great pain and with peril to their own lives. And then they gave birth. Sometimes with great pain and peril to their own lives.

It is literally the LEAST people could do, to actually treat the person doing the baby-growing with respect by acknowledging their work and not verbally erasing them from the entire process
