I'm not somebody who is scared of the dark but I found this very heartwarming :)
May I request Dimitri with an s/o who's afraid of walking alone in the dark but doesn't like to admit it since she's related to an esteemed knight and generally keeps herself to herself? I don't mind if it's pre or post time skip XD I love how you write Dimitri and you are well deserving of your follower count! I follow the dimitri x reader tag and always get super happy when one of your works show up on my dash :) Don't worry if it takes a while, take as long as you need! đ
To be honest, Iâm actually pretty scared of the dark myself. That unfortunately⊠has not changed with age, because who knows whatâs lurking in the darkness, right? Thank you for your kind comments, I appreciate it a lot! I know Iâm not the most active, but I really do enjoy writing and posting whenever I can! Anyways, letâs jump right into it!
Dimitri x Reader - s/o who is afraid of walking alone in the dark (Post-Time skip)
It was late at night, most people in the army had already retired for the night, all lights were shut off and the hallways were dark. Dark and spooky, the monastery already looked haunted enough at night during your academy days but the damage done to it from the assault all those years ago just made it look all the more eerie. It felt like you were walking through some ancient haunted ruins; and to be fair, if someone had described the monastery to you like that, you wouldnât exactly oppose to that definition. There is the holy tomb down below, and thatâs practically a graveyard in a sense, so if there were spirits floating around, you wouldnât doubt it.
As late as it was, and as dark as it was outside of your room, you were also so incredibly thirsty. You sighed at your dilemma and shook your head, âCome on (y/n), youâre the child of a well respected general from Faerghus! You can handle walking in a dark hallway by yourself. Youâve faced worse enemies on the battle field than this, youâve fought monsters in fact! So just⊠Leave your room, go to the dining hall, get a glass of water and thatâs it. You can even run if you must. Come on, just⊠stop standing still in fear, this is ridiculous and embarrassing, even if Iâm the only one here. What would your father say if he heard this all, hm? Have you ever heard of a knight scared of walking alone in the dark? No, you havenât.â You were trying to pep-talk yourself to overcome your fear. After all, you were really thirsty and you were pretty sure that the monastery was relatively safe with an army of your size occupying it.
It was then that you heard a knock at your door, you looked up surprised. You hadnât expected any visitors so late at night. Walking over to the door, you opened it to see Dimitri standing there with what seemed to be a ghost of a smile on his face.
âI heard you talking to yourself, while I was on my way back to my own room. Do you need me to accompany you to get a glass of water?â He chuckled, holding his hand out for yours to take.
Your face flushed red, of all things for him to overhear it just had to be this! âI suppose this isnât the worst outcome. At least itâs only Dimitri who heard, and now I have someone to walk with. This is even more embarrassing than when I was just standing alone!â You thought, mentally scolding yourself for speaking out loud.
Despite your embarrassment, you simply nodded and took his hand with your own. Together, the two of you started walking down the hallway side by side.
âI never knew that you had a fear of the dark, my love. With who your father is, and your prowess on the battle field, itâs quite unexpected.â His voice was soft and gentle, as he led you along.
You shook your head in response, âItâs not really the dark itself thatâs scary. Just the idea of being alone in it. You never know what might happen, right? Regardless of who my parents are, we all have our own fears. That said though, itâs still very embarrassing, so please⊠donât tell anyone else about this, Iâd never be able to live it down.â
He nodded, âYour secret is safe with me. You know Iâd never do anything to make you feel uncomfortable. I suppose to an extent, I understand your fear and sympathize with it. To be alone in the darkness⊠Iâd never want you to experience that, regardless of if itâs in a dark hallway like this, or a different type of darkness. Just as how you and everyone else worked hard to pull me out of my own darkness, Iâd like to be here for you. So if you ever need me to do this again, Iâll gladly do so.â
His words were comforting, and you felt safe with him. You knew that he was being honest and open with you about his feelings. His words were genuine, it really was quite the change from when you had first reunited with him after five years. Your heart felt light, and you were so proud of him in this moment.
âThank you, Dimitri. It means so much more to me to hear those words from you. And for what itâs worth, if itâs walking in a dark hallway like this, I think Iâd much prefer having you with me for that than anyone else.â A small giggle escaped your lips as you finished your sentence.
âThatâs true, Iâm sure if it was anyone else at the door aside from me, you might have slammed it in their face instead. You never liked getting others involved in your own problems. Always preferring to keep things like this to yourself rather than trouble someone else. In a way, that makes this feel flattering and rewarding, to be the one you decided to open yourself up to.â His hand slipped out of your own as he gently wrapped his arm around your waist from behind.
âJust the same way you finally let me in, itâs only fair that I let you in as well.â You leaned towards him, your destination finally within your sights.
âHonestly this whole thing almost made me forget how thirsty I was.â you laughed and shook your head, heading in the dining hall and pouring yourself a glass of water. Finally, your throat would get what it was longing so desperately for; some liquid to clench your thirst. You raised the glass up to your mouth, taking a gulp.
âOn that note, your version of darkness was cuter and much more endearing than my own. You really did sound quite adorable talking to yourself like that earlier, not to mention your face when you saw me.â Dimitri teased, a small smirk on his face as he looked at you.
With your face red, and eyes widened, you choked on the water and spat it out. Coughing and taking deep breaths, you glared at him, a pout on your face, âYouâre very lucky that I love you, you know that?â
He smiled at you adoringly, even after seeing yet another embarrassing display on your end tonight, âI know. I love you too, my beloved. Letâs clean this up, get you another glass and be on our way.â
âIâm not letting you get away with pulling off that stunt so easily, because of that, you have to cuddle with me tonight.â
Hello! Can I request Fire Emblem Heroes King of Faerghus!Dimitri x Summoner!Reader where Dimitri confesses to the Reader by asking them to stay by his side like in his level 40 conversation but Reader thinks he means it more professionally/as an advisor, but ends with them getting together?
A King and his Summoner
Series: Fire Emblem.
Character: King of Faerghus!Dimitri.
Genre: Fluff.
Proofread: Yes.
Reader: Summoner!Reader.
Notes: Reader is Gender Neutral.

Ever since Dimitri had been summoned to Askr it had been something new and unexpected for him. His friends and loved ones were there. Along with other versions of himself and his friends!
It took him a while to adjust to this new kingdom and see different versions of his friends. However, Dimitri had someone there for him since he arrived to adjust to this new kingdom.
Who was that someone? Why it was you of course! Ever since you summoned Dimitri you and him grew with each other and developed a deep bond with one another.
From helping him in battle after battle and defeating countless foes. To help him understand how even ended up in Askr and explain things he was unfamiliar with.
Dimitri and you had been there for each other and became very close over time. Although lately, Dimitri had been thinking something over as of late. It's about you and how he felt towards you.
Dimitri valued his and your time together but wanted more for you and him to spend every day together. So he planned to tell you how he felt as he planned to with you later in the day. The time was quickly approaching so he left to speak with you at the location he told you to meet at.
When Dimitri arrived he already saw you there waiting for him. "Ah, summoner thank you for taking the time to speak with me," Dimitri spoke already relaxing by being near you.
"Of course, Dimitri getting to spend any more time with you. Is something I'd take the opportunity to do!" Always so kind and honest Dimitri liked that about you.
"There is something rather important I would like to speak with you about." He spoke again struggling to find his words. However, after some time he finally finds the words to say.
"When you summoned me here to Askr I had already been crowd King back home in Faerghus. But even as a King I continue to grow and learn new things. So far here in Askr all of that has been thanks to you summoner."
He paused for a moment before speaking once again. "Please summoner stand by my side and help me become a king Faerghus can be proud of!" He spoke now awaiting your response.
"But I already have been Dimitri! For the entire time, I have had you here with me. There was no need to speak with about this!" You let a chuckle after finishing what you said to him.
That...was not the response he was expecting maybe he should be more direct? Yes surely by being more direct about what he truly says and what he is feeling! "Ah of course summoner but I meant it in a different light."
"I wish for you to stand by my side as my king/queen. So that with you by my side I will have all the support and love I need. For the people of Faerghus to have a king they can be proud of."
You were stunned for a moment unsure of what to say. However, after a while, you gathered your thoughts and gave a response to Dimitri. "Oh, Dimitri so that's what you meant. Then yes I'll be your king/queen and stand by your side. By being with you I'll show Faerghus how lucky they are to have such an amazing king."
Dimitri smiled as he embraced you in a hug. "Thank you summoner you've truly made me a happy king. I love you." You hugged Dimitri. "And I love you too Dimitri."
Then may I request (of course separate and platonic) sibling headcannons for Dimitri, Felix, Constance, Linhardt, Caspar, Yuri from Fire Emblem 3 houses (if thatâs two many you can pick and choose)
FĂłdlan Sibling Headcannons
Series: Fire Emblem.
Characters: Dimitri, Felix, Constance, Linhardt, Caspar and Yuri.
Genre: Fluff.
Proofread: Yes.
Reader: Gender Neutral.
Notes: Apologies this took longer than it should have. Also I feel like Dimitri might be a little occ.

Dimitri
Growing up together Dimitri had been your older brother. Naturally, this meant he would be the next King of Faerghus. He always had so many duties and had to be so serious and responsible!
This had been no fun for you whatsoever. Compared to Dimitri you didn't nearly have as many royal duties to attend to. You always had so much free time you had no idea what to do with it!
Of course, you would love to spend this time with Dimitri but of course, he was always busy. However, when Dimitri did have free time you made sure not to waste it! Whenever you did spend time with Dimitri it would be training together or having tea.
But you always wanted to do something more adventurous with him! Such as sneaking out of the royal place and exploring what was outside the place walls! Whether that be exploring the streets of the town or defeating a group of local bandits together.
This was much to your parent's dismay, however. As whenever they discovered you weren't in the place they would send guards to come bring you back. How annoying!
Of course, growing up you were also close with Dimitri's friends. Whenever you went to visit Felix, Ingrid, or Sylvain or they came to visit you. There was never a dull day to be had spending time together!
Felix
Oh, Felix how seriously he always was you swear it's almost like your brother could not smile or have fun! So you made it your mission to make your brother smile or laugh! All you had to do was find out what made him laugh or smile.
This leads you to pull many upon many pranks on your brother. Of course, he found this to be annoying but you swear you saw him crack a small smile sometimes. So it was working that lead you to keep pulling pranks on him!
Of course, pranks weren't the only thing that could make a person smile so this led to you telling multiple jokes to Felix! Of course, this first couple of times not even a grin or a chuckle came from your brother. But that's alright all you had to do was keep trying!
Eventually you finally did it a joke that made Felix laugh genuinely! You were so happy you ended up parading around the room. You ended up tripping and falling over which only made him laugh even more!
Felix was an extremely skilled swordsman you had seen his swordsmanship firsthand. Whether you liked or dislike training Felix would always train you on how to use a sword. So you could defend yourself in case he wasn't there to protect you. He may not show it much but Felix was happy to have you as his sibling.
Constance
"OHOHOHOH!" Whenever you heard that laughter it could only mean one thing. Your sister Constance has created a new spell and was going to show it to you immediately.
Not that you minded of course you were always interested in seeing the new spells your sister would come up with. Admittedly some of them were more useful than others but you always liked seeing them.
Of course, since you were Constance's sibling you were also quite skilled with magic. Each time you created a spell of your own or master an already-known spell your sister couldn't help but be proud of you!
Of course whenever Constance needed to go out for something during the day. You would always be with her you knew how many bad memories the sun brought back to her. So you always wanted to be there with her in case something happened and to keep her safe.
To bring back House Nuvelle that was Constance's dream! Naturally, you shared this dream with Constance and did what you could to make it a reality. Whenever you two successfully bring back House Nuvelle your magical prowess as the siblings of House Nuvelle will be known far and wide!
Linhardt
Oh Linhardt sleepily, sleepily, sleepily Linhardt. How did your brother end up sleeping so much? You weren't sure honestly but you'd find him sleeping in places such as the library.
You could be sitting next to Linhardt talking about anything. Then the next minute he goes quiet and stops responding to you. It's because he's fallen asleep! How could fall asleep while talking to you?! His amazing sibling?! How rude!
Of course, since you were Linhardt's sibling you'd always be the first one he talk to about his crest research. Whether you had a crest or not didn't matter! You were still his sibling and he cared for you all the same.
Of course, if you were ever feeling stressed or tired Linhardt would be the first to notice. And what would he suggest to get rid of those feelings of stress and tiredness? Naps of course! Linhardt always seemed to know some of the best places to take a nap.
Of course, if you ever needed any help with your studies. Linhardt would be the first person you'd go to for help. He was one of the top students so he would be willing to help you out on something you're struggling with.
Caspar
Oh, Casper whenever he would see you in the halls of the Garreg Mach Monastery. He would shout your name and then run up to hug you. He was always happy to see you and always asked how you were doing.
Since neither you nor Casper would be the next head of your house. You always knew Caspar would be training and sometimes asked you to join him. You didn't mind however as Caspar was always great to train with!
Also, you know that one support in Three Houses where Caspar carries Bernadetta to show her something pretty? Yea, Caspar does the same with you sometimes since he wants to show you something. It happens so many people are just used to seeing him carrying around his sibling in the Monastery.
Of course, you and Caspar get along well together since the both of you grew up together. The both of you are each other's best friend! Caspar could be a bit more emotional than you at times.
This usually led to Caspar getting into fights with other students. You always had to hold Caspar back or break up the fight. However, you'd always be there for Caspar to patch him up after a fight.
Yuri
Okay, let's just get this out the Yuri would tease you CONSTANTLY! Seriously not even a day goes by where Yuri isn't teasing you about something. Of course, you would tease him as well but it didn't seem to affect much.
Yuri was also very protective over you as leader of the Ashen Wolves. Of course, Yuri knew you were more than capable of protecting yourself. But if people were aware you were his sibling they might hurt you instead of him.
Of course, since you were Yuri's sibling he trusted you more than anyone else. So you knew more about him than others and he opened up to you more. The both of you are always there for each other and trust each other greatly.
You and Yuri were partners in crime and would go out on missions regularly. You would both always have each other's back. Even in battle the two of you were an unstoppable force!
hello! can i ask for a dimitri x f!reader who is like cardia from code realize? basically, she has a gem embedded in her chest that causes her skin and blood to be poisonous (not her hair) so anything she touches melts away because of the poison. she has been isolated basically her whole life so is kinda clueless about social interactions and stuff.
also, her whole life she has been called a monster and told that she cannot love anyone. so, how would dimitri feel about that kind of person? how would he feel if he fell in love with her? what would he do to protect her? that kinda stuff!

The Prince and His Maiden of Death
Series: Fire Emblem.
Character: Dimitri.
Genre: Angst/Comfort.
Proofread: Yes.
Reader: Female.
Notes: Cardia from Code Realize reminded me of an anime I'm a fan of. It's called The Duke of Death and His Maid! (Which is what I based the title of this fic on!) The way you described Cardia reminded me of the Duke so I had fun writing this! (I hope you don't mind that I based some things in this fic from the anime.)

Alone. That's something that you had been constantly reminded of from a very young age. You wanted nothing more than to make friends and play with other kids.
However, in the area you lived in it was common knowledge that a family had "A Maiden of Death" living with them and this hurt the name of your family.
You were supposed to be the next head of your house. However, your mother passed that responsible onto your sibling. If you ever wanted to be the head of the house or live with your family again you would "Have to get rid of that dreadful curse" as your mother put it.
Oh that's right you didn't live with your mother or any of your siblings. You had been living in a mansion deep in the woods anyway from anyone or anything. However, you did have someone with you your loyal butler.
You were thankful for him choosing to stay with you even knowing about your curse. You couldn't have asked for anyone more kind and loyal than him. That's how it had been for many years until you were a teenager.
It had just been you and him in that mansion so naturally you were very close with him. You didn't have much social interactions with anyone else your mother never even bothered to pay a visit or write a letter to you.
Your Butler wanted nothing more than to see you happy and make friends. So one day he suggested that you attend the Officers Academy. Naturally, you were against this idea of his.
There would be so many people around you who wouldn't want to accidentally touch someone and kill them. Not to mention you would have to be around and speak with other people. It's just something you wouldn't want to deal with so you were against doing it.
After some more discussion with your butler, you managed to strike a deal with him. You didn't have to stay for a while at least for some time to see how the experience would be for you. So you agreed to this and after some time you were on your way to enroll in the Officers Academy!
When you arrived you discussed with Archbishop Lady Rhea. She was understanding of your situation and would do anything she can to accommodate your stay at the Officers Academy. After that, you had been enrolled in the Blue Lions class.
You were extremely nervous, to say the least meeting so many new people at once. Lady Rhea had made your classmates aware of your condition. Just in case any of your classmates were overly friendly and wanted to hug you as a greeting.
Before you could even think of how you should greet your classmates you've already arrived in front of the classroom. 'There's no turning back now.' You thought you should just get this over with now. If you didn't like this you could return home but nothing wrong with giving something new a try right?
So you opened the door where all your classmates were waiting for you. You felt nervous with so many eyes on you all at managed to push that feeling back and introduced yourself. "Hello everyone it's nice to meet you I'm your new classmate my name is Y/N."
(Time skip brought to you by Ingrid bonking Sylvain on the head for flirting with every woman he sees.)
It had already been a few weeks since your arrival at the Officers Academy. To your surprise, you had been enjoying your time here. However, that was mostly thanks to one person in particular Dimitri.
Out of anyone you were most close with him and spent the most of your time as you could with him. He made you feel safe and you could truly be yourself when you were with Dimitri. Of course, you wanted nothing more than to hold his hand and hug him.
However thanks to your curse it made things like that impossible. But there was one thing you could do together that made you happy. That was Dimitri playing with and styling your hair. Dimitri was a man who didn't know his strength so even with just playing with your hair he was afraid he'd hurt you.
There was also the issue that well Dimitri didn't know how to style your hair in any way...However thanks to your friend Mercedes he was able to learn and style your hair. It's something you enjoyed as it was the closest you two could get physically.
He was someone you could easily open up with and talk to about how you truly felt. Whether that be about your curse or just how you were feeling that day. You couldn't be more happy to have someone like Dimitri in your life.
It was just another average day for you and Dimitri nothing special so far. However, that song changed as this would be the day that truly defined your love for Dimitri.
"Y/N I know for the longest time you lived in isolation because of the curse. For the fear of others hating you or yourself hurting others. However, with the time I've spent with you, I can see that you want nothing more than to be around others to have friends.
You are kind and caring considerate of others and how they feel. And for that, I love you Y/N more than you could ever know. Together let's find a way to break your curse when all is said and done. Will you rule over Faerghus by my side as Queen?"
Dimitri x F!Reader: Kidnapped Together
This one turned out longer, but I think I was able to communicate everything from the previous ask a bit better (go check it out if you like this one!). The stakes are a bit higher, I had some fun playing around in my head, and this is what came out for you. Enjoy!
Requests are open. The story will continue under the cut.
Dimitri:
â...-tay away from herâŠâ
Voices faded in and out of your head. Of your ears? You werenât sure if what you were hearing was even real.
â...-ust trying to get herâŠ.-et us throu-â
âYou have done enough! Stay back!â
That got you up. Your eyes fluttered open, glancing around the room while you shifted into a seated position. The walls were made of brick, but you couldnât see the door from the three people crowding into the small room. Prince Dimitri stood between you and the strangers.
You moved to stand, but were held down by the chains keeping your wrists close to the floor.
At the rattling you made, Dimitri turned his head ever so slightly to check on you, âStay down. You mustn't strain yourself.â
â...what?â
âShe wonât need to if you just let us tend to-â
âYou caused this,â he growled. âI am not so delusional as to allow you to make it worse.â
âCan I please know whatâs going on?â you worried, realizing all this directly concerned you.
âJustâŠstay close to the ground,â he softened his voice a bit to address you. âThey hit you on the back of the head while we were hunting in the woods, then used you as leverage to get the upper hand on me.â
A woman in armor gripping a lance approached, trying to take advantage of the apparent distraction. Catching on quickly, Dimitri squared up to her. The lancerâs brows lowered as she backed down again.
âIf she bleeds out, know it will only be because you allowed her to.â
You gasped, bringing a hand toward the back of your head before the chains restricted you from doing so, âW-Wait, Iâm bleeding out?â
âNo, it will be because you chose to attack us. Look at yourselves; you canât even control your prisoners.â
âWe never meant-â
Your classmate cut her off, âBut you did. And the only way you could make it right is to either heal her or let us go.â
âYouâre not letting us heal her,â the fortress knight closest to the door barked.
âI wonder what option that leaves for you.â
Dimitri was holding himself with all the power and authority of a royal despite the circumstances. It would normally have you in awe, but you were struggling to focus on anything except the possibility that you were a sitting duck in critical condition.
The good news was that he was clearly getting under their skin. Your captors seemed to value both of your lives for some reason; not just the princeâs.
Unfortunately, yours was the life being gambled, and you were on a strict time limit. Dimitri could only call their bluff for so long before theyâd have to make a decision. While the daughter of a noble was a decent bargaining chip, you werenât quite sure how far your captors would be willing to go to keep you upright.
Maybe theyâd wait for you to pass out, forcing Dimitri into a final decision.
Perhaps your fate would be decided only after you fell unconscious.
But for now, you said nothing. If you let theseâŠroguesâŠin on how much you wanted help, they would certainly use your words against Dimitri. Then what would you have to keep yourself safe? No doubt theyâd separate you.
âStep. Aside.â
âThen what? You two canât escape while sheâs chained to the floor.â
âThat never stopped me.â
Indeed, the cuffs of a different set of chains were still bound to Dimitriâs wrists. He must have broken his own at some point before you woke up.
The fortress knight stepped forward this time, holding out his lance as the witch next to him primed her magic. Fire, from the looks of it.
âPathetic. Do you really think you can stop me?â
You had never seen this side of Dimitri before. He was acting a bit moreâŠwell, scary wasnât the proper word. Authoritarian wasnât either. In all honesty, you werenât quite sure how you felt about it.
Not that it mattered. At the end of the day, he was getting you out of here.
Suddenly the world spun. You were caught by surprise, but you couldnât steady your head with your hands. The most you could make of the skirmish in front of you was bright colors and blurred lines. You wanted to throw up, yet you felt like there was nothing to get rid of. Plus, it would only worsen your headache.
On instinct, you tried to balance yourself; to stop yourself from falling over. Since you werenât actually off-centered, the endeavor didnât go so well, and you struggled to regain control of your body before you could hit the floor.
When you set your hand on the ground beside you to steady yourself, blood dripped onto it.
Was this a good time to ask for help?
âŠmore help?
Looking up as your sight came back to you, you realized you had no idea where you were. There were bodies on the ground, drops of blood spattered around them. They matched the beads trickling down your hand.
Prince Dimitri was at your side, tearing through the chains at your wrists.
âWhere are we?â you asked him, glancing back at the people motionless on the floor. âD-Did I do this?â
âWhat? No, youâve been stuck here on the fl-â his voice quieted, âBy the Goddess, noâŠâ
His hand moved to your face, angling it toward him until you had nowhere else to look but into his eyes. After a moment, the action had made you somewhat dizzy.
You recoiled a bit, âWh- Youâre acting strangeâŠâ
He turned his head away, sighing lightly as he broke your other shackle off. Arms now free, you moved to stand before he stopped you.
âYour eyesâŠwe need to get you out of here.â
âOkay, so letâs go.â
âNo,â he again prevented you from getting up. âNo large movementsâŠI need to find a way to get you out of here safely.â
Glancing around the room once again, you couldnât identify any living threats to your survival, âThere must be something Iâm not getting. Where are we? It doesnât look like weâre in any direct danger; nothing is stopping us from leaving.â
He rose to his feet, watching to make sure you stayed down, âI donât know where we areâŠsome ruffian camp by the monastery- but I know the way back. They kept me conscious during the walk.â
â...thatâs an odd way of phrasing itâŠâ
âYes, well. I wonât be doing much more of that. The important thing is getting you out of here as efficiently as possible. That means without youâŠmovingâŠyâŠâŠdâŠtâŠmâŠch.â
You ducked your head as you felt it throb, staring at the floor and trying even just to breathe. In and out. You were in trouble, you knew that much, but you just couldnâtâŠ
âŠifâŠif you could justâŠfocusâŠ
Vaguely, you registered hands at your arms. They shifted; one to your waist, one to your back, an arm to your head, and you suddenly couldnât feel the ground anymore.
â...IâŠâ
âPlease, try not to move. Iâm going to get you out of here.â
âŠoutâŠof hereâŠ?
âPut your head down. I will keep you safe.â
That voiceâŠit sounded so familiarâŠ
They sounded so calm and comforting, so easy to trust, you found it hard to think of disobeying. How easy it was to rest, to ignore everything and rest your head.
But the feeling of dread wouldnât go away.
â...I feelâŠbadâŠâ
âI know,â he said. The voice was male, âJust hang on a bit longer. Does that sound manageable?â
It wasnât. It sounded easy enough, but the darkness that engulfed you afterward said otherwise.
~~~~
âDimitri!â
His head shot up from the side of your medical bed as he startled awake.
âWhat? Is something the matter?â
But once his eyes adjusted, it didnât look like there was much on your mind except confusion; as though you had called out to him from some dream you had, or perhaps you had been reliving past events. You were just staring at the bookshelf across from you, dumbfounded.
âHowâŠ? But I thought-â
âEasy,â he lightly set his hand atop yours. âWeâre safe now. This is Manuelaâs study.â
âOhâŠâ you commented. âI only remember a few things, I think. I was hit on the headâŠthere was blood and a prison of sortsâŠand then nothing.â
âWe were attacked by some band of scum after we left to hunt for the monastery,â Dimitri frowned. âThey tried to hold you over my head and capture us bothâŠand Iâll admit they got away with it for longer than Iâm proud of.â
You looked worried, though he assured you everything turned out fine. The two of you had returned to safety, after all, and you looked relieved to hear it.
âI managed to bring you back without running into trouble, butâŠâ
He felt his face begin to warm, his eyes finding a spot on the far wall; anything to keep himself from making eye contact with you.
â...you said a few things on the way.â
âWhatâŠwhat do you mean?â
âYou kept fading in and out- surely, some of it was coming out of your head. IâŠI donât want it to-â
âYour Highness, what did I say?â
âAh, ermâŠâ the hand he was resting on yours flew to the back of his neck. His face was burning now, but heâd only be more embarrassed if he tried to hide it, âPlease, donât call me that right nowâŠâ
At least you seemed to be back in good health. Manuela had gathered quite the posse to care for you, but he had pulled rank and refused to leave until you were awake. This was his fault, at least partially, and he would see it through.
His position as the Kingdomâs heir certainly had its uses.
â...youâre scaring me. Please, just tell me what I said,â you looked down at the thin white sheet covering your legs, your body rigid and still, âI hope it wasnât a mean thing.â
âN-No,â he rushed to assure you. Goddess, why was this so difficult to say when you were the one that said it in the first place?
He felt your eyes trying to connect with his own, âThenâŠwhat?â
âYouâŠsaid you loved me.â
One of your hands flew to cover your face as it tinted scarlet, prompting his own face to turn a similar hue, he was sure.
âAnd I know! I knew you had suffered head trauma- I wouldnât have even given a second thought to itâŠbut you began saying all these other things. You called me kind and courageous, chivalrous and determinedâŠâ
With each of his words, you seemed to grow more and moreâŠwell, whatever it was your eyes were expressing through your fingers, it was making him grow nervous.
âIâŠIf it is okay with you, that isâŠI would like to know if you truly thought those things about myselfâŠ?â
Please say yes. Please say yes. If only you were to say yes, maybe I-
âOf course,â you muttered, letting your hand lower as your gaze directed toward it, âHow could I not? Especially after the tendrils of what little I could remember coming back to me, IâŠâ
He said nothing, hoping you would find it in you to continue your praise of him. Perhaps it was a little underhanded, but he found he liked hearing you speak of him in such a way.
âYouâre brave- you protected me when I couldnât defend myself. I remember you were patient with me whenâŠwhen my condition worsened-â
You cut yourself off after accidentally meeting his eyes, as though you had just begun to realize what it was you were saying.
Should he say something too? To make it less awkward?
âI find you attractive too.â
Wait.
âWhat?â
What?!
âN-No, thatâs not what I meant. I, well, I do find you attractive, but I was trying to refer to your actions and your personality. Not that IâŠdonât find you physically attractive as well, but-â
âJustâŠsay whatever it is you need and leave? I think Iâve had enough of everything, today.â
His heart clenched a little, at that. That wasnât what he had meant to say at all, and now it sounded like you didnât even want to look at him.
Why was it that he had to ruin this when it was so close to going right?
âThat came out wrong,â the leader of the Blue Lions sighed, âItâs because of your determination and strength that I have come to understand the only limitations of life are the ones I place upon myself. You are loyal, honest, and true to yourself; even if that means going against those around you.â
There. That was closer to what he truly felt. He wasnât sure he could manage to say much more without messing everything up again, so he opted to just close his mouth and wait.
You looked brighter though; almost like Dimitri hadnât just ruined whatever your relationship was not but two minutes ago. That was what truly mattered, he supposed. You had gone through hell today, and the least he could do was try to make the end of your day better.
âIâŠperhaps you had better get more rest. I will retrieve Professor Manuela for you,â he stood, turning back to you one last time, âGet well soon, and donât hesitate to ask if you need anything.â
You responded with a simple wave.
Dimitri shut the door behind him, taking a few steps down the hall before leaning against the wall. He covered his face with one hand. His heart was racing too fast. The prince took a deep breath only to let it out a moment later.
Honestly, today had made him feel sick with the amount of emotions swirling around in his chest. There was so much fear- both of you would have been ransomed or worse if your captors had been a little smarter, and you had nearlyâŠ
The blond shook his head. He knew fear, and that was definitely part of what he felt, but for some reason it had created an amalgamation with hisâŠwellâŠattraction to you. The words you had exchanged mere moments ago certainly didnât help, and he had held you so close on the way back to the monastery that it was a miracle he was still functioning.
Shifting off the wall, he rushed out of the hallway and down the stairs to find Professor Manuela. You needed help first, even if he didnât want to wait to talk to you again.
Heâd see you when you were better, and though maybe youâd forget your conversation, at least now he knew something about how you felt.
Perhaps there existed some hope for him after all.
