Been rereading book 3 lately
So chapter 33 of The Dark Flame is gonna be the art and memes chapter

So there aren’t many shadow charmers in Fablehaven/Dragonwatch, but there are quite a few witches. they both supposedly get their powers from the same source, demons, so I wonder if they’re similar Considering that Shadow Charmers are inducted into the brotherhood of the creatures of the night and witches hone powers from their patron demon, they aren’t necessarily the same
but what makes a witch different from a shadow charmer exactly? why are shadow charmers rarer? Borrowing power from a demon essentially entrusts a person with dark magic and that means witches are therefore dark-aligned beings like shadow charmers they may have different abilities from shadow charmers but as we have seen with the singing sisters, who have untold knowledge/foresight, they aren’t always less powerful than shadow charmers so what’s so great about being a shadow charmer then? Here’s my theory: when witches choose to follow a demon and use their powers, they choose to give up every aspect that makes them light, and in turn, lose their sense of self and corrupting so they can take on the power that’s bestowed to them, similarly to demons When something becomes a shadow charmer, they do not lose their sense of self as they aren’t exactly demonkind, but still a creature of night. Being a shadow charmer doesn’t change the creature’s morals or character, yet still provides access to demon-like powers. The creature is dark but not necessarily corrupted (However, most of them were known to be evil until Seth came along) The reason it’s easier to become a witch than a shadow charmer is probably because the process of becoming dark-aligned without corrupting the creature in question is hard for demons to preform This might be because demons often are made when a creature corrupts, so it’d be hard to tap into a demons powers without corrupting. But if shadow charmers are granted powers that aren’t from the demon directly, but more of a general dark-aligned creature, then they won’t corrupt.
that being said, demons are probably one of the most powerful dark creatures in the Fablehaven universe and could grant shadow charming most easily out of the other dark creatures. Since there are so few left in the overworld due to the demon prison, it’d be hard to see one out and win its favor in the first place anyway, I forgot where I was going with this. Oneshots: Alyssa Walks Alone - By Candlemouse (0.6k words) This fic follows Kendra’s old friend, Alyssa. (you may or may not remember her from book 2, she was the first girl to fall in love the Kobold. Anyways-) Alyssa, who had just graduated high school, decides to visit Kendra’s grave and reminisce. It’s an angsty fic but very well written so I’d give it a read. To Obtain And To Keep - By Summercosmos (13k words) This story reimagines Fablehaven to answer the question “What if Seth and Kendra were raised on fablehaven?” Every part is a small fragment of the moments that are different in their lives compared to the books, and answers questions like “Why were they raised at Fablehaven in this universe?” And “How will they learn about the magic?” It’s a bit angsty but has some sweet moments too. Forgiving The Shadows - By Sabinethesoprano (2.2k words) Remember the ending of Dragonwatch? This fic is about how Seth doesn’t become a Shadow Healer, but rather he learns to accept his mistakes and embrace his darkness. This is during the “purification” scene. Kendra Decks Coulter - By Candlemouse (0.2k words) This short tale is about Kendra and Vanessa giving a well-deserved punch to Coulter for his sexist remarks. Raise A Glass To The Forgotten - By NotCharmander_3 (me) (1k words) This fanfic illustrates what Dale does when everyone else is away on a mission. What sort of adventure will happen in the simple sanctuary of Fablehaven?
There’s probably other oneshots I’ve read and enjoyed but I forget 😭 Multichapter fics: Quiet Sunday Dinners - By Candlemouse (12.8k words, complete) This is told from the perspective of the Sorenson Siblings’ parents, Scott and Marla, as they experience strange things happening to their family. The death of their beloved daughter, the discovery of magic, and reunion. I like this fic because it portrays parenthood very well and it’s very well-thought out. also, I just realized how many of these fics are angsty lmao. Anyways- Heir To Light - By Candlemouse (97k words, complete) The royal heirs to the Kingdom of Fablehaven, Princess Kendra and Prince Seth, have found their beloved home to be ransacked. With fear for their lives, they turn to a kind neighboring kingdom, Terrabelle, in hopes to seek refuge. But, trouble has yet to see the last of them. Will they save their kingdom before all falls to ruin? Or, will they be the heirs to light no more? Seeing Is Believing - By Carolinelikesdinner (16.7k words, incomplete, hiatus) This is probably one of my favorite fablehaven fics. It’s a fablehaven rewrite where Kendra and Seth find themselves at their grandfather’s old manor and shit goes down. I really like the unique world building of this and the re-characterization of Kendra and Seth. The Dark Flame - By NotCharmander_3 (me) (52.9k words, incomplete, in progress) This fic takes place after dragonwatch and follows the adventures of Seth Sorenson as he makes new friends and has tons of fun. But when a new threat prophesies the fall of Fablehaven, can Seth and his new friends go on a killer quest to save the day? How does Seth deal with his past mistakes? And what is going on with his powers? This is his story of how learns to accept himself and prove to everyone that he’s more than the reckless kid he once was. (The first chapter is pretty corny but trust me it gets so much better as it goes on) Thank you for the ask! I would recommend more fanfics but I really haven’t read enough Fablehaven fanfics lately. Hope you enjoy my recommendations!
Rereading fablehaven has reminded me that Seth canonically enjoys painting and hates jigsaw puzzles and I am very happy that I get to relearn that about him

If fablehaven was mermaids this is what I think their mermaid tales would look like: Kendra: Its color changes depending on the temperature of the water, colder is more sapphire blue, lukewarm emerald green, warm gold, and hot is ruby red (I say this because kendra’s favorite colors changes, as we see with the wizenstone, so her tail kinda reflects that). When she becomes fairykind, her scales are laced with some kind of ultraviolet bioluminescent color that only some fish can see Seth: he’d be like a ghost pipefish. They can camouflage very well into their environment and are very hard to spot in the wild. I think he’d blend in with the seagrass very often when he and kendra are playing hide and seek. When he becomes a shadow charmer, he is able to survive in colder water temperatures (ghost pipefish usually live in about 22.1-29 degrees C but don’t quote me on that) Lena: I think she would be a dolphin because they are very playful in nature, and I think that’s what naiads intend to be (though they think drowning people is their idea of fun) plus she goes to the surface a lot as a dolphin Stan: flatfish because he can’t stop making pancakes for breakfast 😭 Ruth: i think she would have a crimson-colored tail, and this is a dumb reason but it’s because I feel like the color red fits her character well. Like it matches her personality (or what I remember of it) Dale: Green like the color of kelp, as he tends to the farm all day Warren: a great white Shark. Probably has some scars because he’s literally a knight of the dawn. Idk what else to say Tanu: some color of koi because they remind me of splashes which reminds me of potions Vanessa: Multicolored betta fish, but her tail color could change depending on who she’s possessing Bracken: Pearlescent, icy blue, or some combination of the two Ronodin: Inky black with flecks of gold and/or maroon Calvin: some species of minnow. I can’t decide what because I don’t get a specific color vibe from him Eve: Midnight blue. She is literally the [Eve]ning Lemme know if I should add any other characters or if you have a different idea for what their mermaid tails would look like!

im at the third book of dragon watch and still surprised he hasnt had a full on, ugly crying, throat hurting, choking on his own tears type breakdown
it might be my self insert, but i feel like kendra is given way more sympathy from others even though she had less shit happen to her. like it was still A LOT, seth just had it a little worse AND he was waaay younger, and may i remind u children dont have everything developed in their brain. even only what happened in the first book would have left him scarred for life.

Dragonwatch book 5 Theories
-After they all eventually figure everything out and save the day, Vanessa will be healed, probably by the Fairy Queen
-BRACKENDRA!
-Risenmay will spend the rest of her life shipping Brackendra, and probably throw in some pre-arranged romantic picnics in the middle of the war, too
-Seth and the Singing Sisters will restore the Ethergem
-Once fixed, the Ethergem will use some sort of awesome Source Magic to oust Ronodin, possibly purifying all his horns in the process, and get rid of all the darkness in the Fairy Realm
-Seth goes into the Demon Prison for the shard in the Demon King’s crown and makes a trade- the shard in exchange for the demons being allowed out of their new prison to fight the Dragons
-Kendra will have to find the Dragon Slayers, and there’ll be a huge Zzyzx-style fight with all the races vs the Dragons
-They all find new prisons/confinements/sanctuaries for everyone, Demons and Dragons alike, or create new preserves/treaties allowing them to come and go from sanctuaries like Raxtus as long as mortals don’t see them, or get harmed in any way at all
-Kendra might become an eternal, and Seth ?the Under King? I don’t love either of those ideas, but they seem likely
-The Font of Immortality is recreated with RONODIN’S third horn instead of Brackens! (Personally, this is my favorite theory!)
