Fanbinding by @jinkieswouldyoulookatthis ๐๐ซถ
Continuing my run as the luckiest little fangirl in the west... ๐ฅบ๐
@jinkieswouldyoulookatthis did something truly beautiful for me recently, and I've just received the results: my very own handmade, hand bound copy of my West series.
You can see her incredibly cool (possibly haunted) process here:
Below, you can see my very uncool emotional breakdown of/about it (and some more photos). ๐ฅฒ
Now look at all of the beautiful details!
These end papers are so eye-grabbing and perfectly selected, since the series takes place through a revolving door of motels, just as in early-seasons canon.
The title verso has all of the information from AO3, the original LJ publishing dates, @idlingintheimpalapodcast's podfic version details, and the fanbinding specs. Then there's the contents page! JUST LIKE A REAL BOOK, YOU GUYS!
Also, did you happen to spot @tsukiyo-7's credit line on the verso page?! BECAUSE I DID! And I had no idea what that was about until I opened to the page with their custom artwork!
How freaking cool is that?! ๐ญ Thank you, you fantastically talented person! ๐ Everyone go check out their other beautiful art (plenty of stunning Wincest. ๐ซถ) on their Tumblr!
In case you're wondering, the Kushtaka, which Jinkies also created a whole, super cool entry from John's hunting journal for, is the creature that necessitates Sam and Dean ending up in the shower together in part two of the series. ๐คญ
Then, not only that, but this curious little sticker tumbled out when I opened those pages:
Because Jinkies doesn't do anything by halves, it turns out that she even found this traditional formline artwork of the Kushtaka by Nick Alan Foote, an indigenous artist of Native American Tlingit heritage, where the legend comes from. That is such a special connection to have that I would never have expected. I'm way beyond touched. ๐ฅน Please check out the artist's other wonderful work here on Insta.
The final dagger in the coffin of my tendency to blubber at the drop of a hat, let alone in the face of heartfelt gestures, was this page:
@sam-is-my-safe-word and @talltalesandbedtimestories have been personal champions and cheerleaders of mine since the very beginning of my return to writing in this fandom, and they haven't stopped since. The fact that they still have effusively kind things to say about me and my work just makes me want to die (in a happy way).
The comments on my fics are, like, 90% of what keeps me writing. Sharing and engaging and knowing that my stories are making people happy is what it's all about for me, so having those comments from @fictionallemons, Faraway22 (not sure if they're on here under a different username?), Jinkies, and @chiquititasnewsong preserved as a reminder of that... Honestly, you should be glad you can't hear the noises I'm making right now.
The thing is, I knew Jinkies was doing this. She asked permission before she started, she offered to make me a copy as well, and I've been elated and flattered from the moment she did. But now, having it in my hands, I'm moved even further than I thought I would be (and believe me, I know myselfโI knew I'd be a mess).
I live a very small life, y'all. The joys I experience tend to be on the same scale. So while this might not be grand or extravagant to many people, this gift, of something I put into the world through a medium I've only really known digitally, intangibly, now being something I can hold in my hands as proof that I've touched the lives of people so far and wide, is a kind of profound that these words don't do justice.
It makes my life feel pretty darn big after all.
Thank you, @jinkieswouldyoulookatthis. Thank you to those who contributed. Thank you to everyone who's read and commented and been a part of West in some way over the last 14 years. The story's still being told in this way. I'm so grateful to remain a part of it.

It is an absolute trip! I was just mooning over the book yesterday and happened to open it to the finale sex scene and kind of gawped a little. I mean, I knew it was in there, but I've sure never owned another printed book that had a scene as explicitly smutty as that in it before! ๐๐คญ Makes me feel proud, to be honest!
Also, the fact that this series is on your all-time fave list is amazing. ๐ญ Thank you so freaking much!

It just makes me happy when people make amazing things.
Paramount don't seem to be too interested in making Star Trek: Prodigy merch, so I decided to take matters into my own hands/crochet hook. Six prototypes, a lot of yarn, and even more swearing later, I've designed my very first crochet pattern.
Behold - Murf!
Next up ... Rok Tahk???
Murf keeps good company!

I'm working on a prototype for Rok Tahk as we speak! As my second-ever pattern design, she's ... not so much a step up from Murf as, er, several ladders up from Murf. But she's coming along nicely and I think she's going to look great when she's done.
A few people have asked about the patterns, so: my ultimate aim is definitely to share them, probably via Ravelry? But there are a few things about the Murf pattern I'd like to tweak, to make sure he's perfect before I release him into the wild - and at the moment Rok Tahk is occupying a lot of my brain/free time, so it might be a while yet. Stay tuned!

Who'd like a sneak preview of what I'm working on at the moment...?
It's Rok Tahk!
She's very much not finished (still need to figure out her dungarees and a pair of legs!) and very much a prototype, with lots that needs to be fixed for the next version, but I reckon she's looking great so far.
(She also might be the most complicated crochet pattern I've ever worked on, let alone designed...)
What do you think?
This has been getting another flurry of notes and lovely comments over the last few days, and if you liked this WIP pic of the prototype, you're going to love the finished version - which I'm hoping to share in the next week or so!
(And because a few people have asked whether I'll be posting the pattern: I very much plan to make the patterns for both Rok Tahk and Murf available, but they both need quite a bit of work before I'll be happy to release them into the wild. Rok Tahk in particular uses a bunch of slightly unusual techniques/stitches, instructions for all of which I'll need to write up in addition to the pattern itself, and some parts will need photos to show how it all works. She also requires a lot of yarn, so I want to make sure the pattern is perfect before anyone spends hard-earned money on the resources to make her. So it's a 'yes', but not necessarily a 'soon'!)

It's taken 3 months of trial and error (mostly error), but...
... here's Rok Tahk!
Her FACE
I learned a lot designing and making her; she's definitely the most complicated piece I've crocheted to date. There are still a few things I want to fix - but given that she's only my second attempt at designing a crochet pattern, I think she's turned out pretty well! And Murf agrees.

The [BLEEP]ing cutest bone-drinker this side of Alpha Centauri.
The Moopsy test is complete!
A few changes to make for version 2, which will have at least 30% more butt and won't have parts sewn the wrong way round, but I'm pleased with how this came out!

You better not shout
You better not cry
You better not pout
I'm telling you why
๐ถ๐ถ Moopsy's loose and hunting you down ๐ถ๐ถ
I've had a bit of a creative drought for the last, er, few months, but I finished the second prototype of crochet Moopsy in time for Christmas (Christmoops?)! A few more changes to make before I'm completely happy with it, but a big improvement on version one.
Made a crochet bone for crochet Moopsy
(Plan for version 3 of the Moopsy pattern: make the head bigger; less length in the body; do ... something about the back legs; try another different yarn; (try to) sew everything on straight this time (yeah right))
So when I saw that the prompt for Day 12 for DBDA Promptober was "Magic 8 Ball", I realized today was the day I wanted to post about this.
I made a bunch of little paper tokens to include in my letters to Netflix. For luck, for laughs, and (mostly), to further illustrate a bit of the love for the show behind what I'm saying.
And each of them has a specific reason and meaning that I'll maybe talk about later, but the first ones that I made were the Magic 8 Ball.
I had the idea that I'd like to include a little Magic 8 Ball in each letter with "Renew Dead Boy Detectives" written on it, and had a vague idea of how I wanted to make that happen. I got construction paper, and some little tags with ribbons to sandwich inside each one, since I wanted it to be something you could hang up if you wanted. (They are two-sided: one side has the 8 and the other has the window with the die).
But it was when I found the blue glitter cardstock that I absolutely knew I was making these.
The glitter is in honor of someone important to me -- I don't know for sure if she would have liked the show, but I like to think that she would have. But I know she would have listened to me ramble on about it, and I 100% know that she would have approved of me participating in any fan action where I could incorporate at least a bit of glitter. (So not unlike Niko, in that way, now that I come to think about it ๐)
And knowing that made it feel like each one would be just a little bit extra lucky (and surely it can't hurt to have the Magic 8 Ball's recommendation).
