Canon Clive Cid interactions are so absolutely wonderful cause it has the inherent charm of the fact that Clive is a trained soldier and an assassin. Despite the constant cynism and sarcasm he can in fact follow orders and he does what Cid tells him to
Which all culminates in the fact that he becomes a scary dog behind Cid. Cid, an extremely powerful man, has to keep that same dog behind him cause Clive is grabbing his sword on any occasion.
This is all the more funny because at some point Cid is clearly trying to teach Clive how to lead cause he wants Clive to take his place at some point. Which is fun and great and he tries to be a mentor. But it just doesnt work and that’s hilarious. He can’t. All that Cid accomplished by being a mentor is that yes Clive is good at solving problems, but he’s also Very Much now focusing on Cid himself. This is a literal situation of “a shepard dog deciding its taking you our on a walk”. Clive is now taking care of you he is now your shield and you cannot do anything about this, this man has abandonment issues. He is an embodiment of a shepherd dog.
