My favourite thing about Kimchie is that their bond is so believable because Tomer and Karen's stratospheric levels of chemistry literally transcended whatever alternate angle the writers were unconvincingly trying to sell.
Like the infamous 'family' scene. I got a lotta strong feelings about how I don't think it ever remotely undermined the possibility of romance in the first place; it is so very very carefully worded and framed to avoid exactly that - which I love! But even if we accept they really were trying to make them 'just' family for a minute, they attempt that during a scene where I have literally never seen two characters look more in love š
Idk man, if I were writing a totally platonic innocent childlike sibling relationship between two characters and wanted no one to ever ship them, I simply wouldn't make them kiss twice or dance a slow dance together, or have a character drunkenly insist she isn't jealous over her friend's sexual life while being weirdly invested in how exactly he's going to use his penis.

My favourite thing about them is that she's basically immortal ('cept that one time) and yet he still always always worries and goes over to her and checks she's ok. That is, indeed, love.
Okay but the fact that Frenchie has seen Kimiko literally resurrect herself twice and yet he still yells out "Mon Coeur!" when she gets knocked around a little and waits to see that she's alright before doing anything even though he's in immediate danger. That is love. That is also him kinda being a himbo. But mostly it is love.
Sometimes I'm such a total sap cause in the Herogasm episode, I always find it a relief when Kimiko finally gets grabbed by one of Nina's goons because that's preferable to her pacing round the room with her beautiful sad eyes worrying that Frenchie might even remotely be mad at her for kissing him. I hate that she spends any time thinking he might have just abandoned her at the hospital which he obviously would never have done.
A million tragic things happen in this show but those moments where she doesn't know what to write and doesn't know where he's gone always get to me because there's something so very 'real' about them.
I want that leopard-print jacket as much as the contents š
Also those little knife pins on the lapel are tooo cute
My Favorite Frenchie Looks
Completely subjective and in no particular order.
Bunny crop top? ā Knife harness? (Who is he stabbing???) ā Plaid pants and a little happy trail? ā I love that Frenchie is wanted by the FBI, holed up in a dank basement in Queens, and still has time to look hot and accessorize. This is also the first inkling we got that our boy has style.
I imagine Frenchie was on his way to bake madeleines with this girl he just met, looked in the mirror and thought, āHmmmā¦this needs somethingā¦ā And then he added a little bandanna because he wanted to look cute to impress Kimiko. The flour on the cheeks is a nice touch.
Bare ass naked, covered in blood, and rocking a bicycle lock statement necklace. Okay, technically he did not choose this ensemble but that doesnāt take away the fact that he looks amazing.

Look how cute and worried he is. I bet Kimiko steals this sweatshirt all the time.
Cute and sassy and prepared to do 8 to 10 in a maximum security prison. I like that he has different colored hair in the flashbacks. Itās a nice character note that Frenchie has always been a bit of a peacock. Also, I think they should let Frenchie wear more jewelry.

It seems like the Season 4 wardrobe got an upgrade too, possibly courtesy of a fat CIA salary? They knew what they were doing with this slow pan up. The boots are sick, as are the bondage pants. But I love that heās still wearing this old army jacket thatās barely held together with safety pins and patches. Frenchie is loyal. He loves things, even when they are falling apart.
I love this ugly sweater and the fact that he always customizes his clothesāchopping off the hems, sewing on patches, cutting bigger necklines. (My personal head canon is that after working for Little Nina, Frenchie canāt stand anything tight around his neck.) Frenchie may be a reformed assassin, but he still takes pleasure in beauty.
Finally, I love how as their relationship has evolved, Kimiko and Frenchieās styles seem to have subtly influenced the other. There are the his and hers ripped jeans, military jackets, and matching combat boots. They just make sense together. š„°
Oh god it's true, it's so so true. That moment of Gambit saying 'Gambit never tell anyone this before...Gambit loves you' was emblazoned in my mind for all eternity ā¤ļø
I keep seeing parallels between Frenchie and Gambit, and between Kimchie and Romy even, and I've realised my brain will just subconsciously seek out the most Gambit/Rogue-coded characters available over and over š (though those four are by far my favourite examples!)

I've ended up with a lot of love for S4 and have accepted the rough ride they put Kimchie through for much of it. But it was truly pretty jarring to go from three seasons of Frenchie - extremely adorably - moving heaven and earth to even be able to communicate with Kimiko to suddenly having him be the one not talking to her.
That time when he still calls her Mon Coeur but doesn't say it with the tenderest tone you've heard in your life was like a direct slap on my own little heart š
THE BOYS 4.05 Beware of the Jabberwock, My Son
This is another reason I love Kimchie and why it feels so representative of my experiences where the attraction always starts in friendship, or basically grows because of friendship. He clearly does love her from first sight technically of course but not in some dramatic romantic way, in this very different and much more interesting way where he just recognises a kindred spirit.
And then we see them hang out watching tv, baking together, doing so many paired up missions just enjoying each other's company. The only time he ever annoys her or frustrates her is when he excludes her because of his shame. Otherwise, sure they get frustrated trying to save each other from stuff (mainly doing hits of different kinds!) but we never see them irritate each other, or actually try to control each other.
They are just so happy to be around each other and eventually let themselves act on something more. It's so, so much more believable and rewarding and sweet š
I really like fictional couples that actually enjoy spending time with each other. It seems like such a simple, mundane thing. But, often, I see fictional couples who are completely enamored and dramatic and willing to die for each other, which is fine. But likeā¦ do they enjoy hanging out? Do they have private jokes and would they be friends even if they werenāt in love? It feels like such a basic thing, but itās something that I actually donāt see that often. And it feels so refreshing and honest compared to these over-dramatic romeo and juliet-esque romances. Just two people who become good friends and because they enjoy each otherās presence so much it grows into a strong attraction. It feels more real and tangible than two attractive people meeting and āfalling in love at first sightā - like, of course, you fell in love at first sight! Youāre both supermodels! Sorry, canāt relate.
This was so heart-wrenching, that quiet instant panic and confusion the first time, then her silent single tear when she keeps trying and he keeps refusing š
Even just the sheer fact that they must have barely gone a day not seeing each other since she was rescued would have made this so hard for her. That's multiple years where she went from being terrified and alone to having someone who adores her around every day.
Good for angsty-ness and for making these two actually admit how they really feel about each other; bad for my sensitive little heart that wants everyone happy š

the fact that kimiko finally spoke again and it was her screaming "NO" as they took frenchie away is heartbreaking
idk why it needs to be said, but Kimiko and Frenchie have never been platonic š since that finale, Iāve seen mostly positivity about their confession/kiss, but I have also seen people claiming that the writers are āpandering to a minorityā by making them a coupleā¦??? THEY HAVE BEEN BUILDING UP TO THAT SINCE THE MOMENT THEY MET!
Frenchie has always been queer, yes, but itās SO obvious that heās been pining for Kimiko since the very beginning. and when she told him he was āfamily,ā it didnāt necessarily negate their romantic vibe. family is simply comfortability and love between two or more people, and it isnāt reserved to platonic relationships.
and for those who claim they were āmore like siblings,ā I beg of you to answer this: what does your relationship with YOUR siblings look like?! because if it looks anything like the dynamic between Kimiko and Frenchieā¦thatās concerning.

needed to speak my truth because Iām tired of this debate and the strangely purist takes people have expressed about these two and their relationship. they are allowed to like each other as more than friends, and Iām not sure why itās such a taboo thing for two fucked up people to find their soulmate in one another. š¤·āāļø
