Anybody in Minnesota/the Dakotas know of any grass replacements that are native to our area? I want to convince the parentals to replace our grass with some native stuff because water usage and things but I'm not sure what to look at, if that makes sense

I've already built a toad abode next to a water feature and left a large earthworm as an offering. Oh how I hope he/she isn't traumatized by my unwavering love and chooses to stay!
