Gene Wilder - Tumblr Posts
The core appeal of Willy Wonka is that he's a nigh-omnipotent maniac who uses his near limitless powers over reality to trick shitty people into killing themselves. You can't make him the protagonist of a whimsical coming of age tale - you have to treat him like Jason Voorhees, or Dracula, or any other horror icon. Give him some new victims and new interesting kills and set him loose, that's all audiences want.
i'd love to see more people going batshit crazy trying to do a character analysis of gene wilder's wonka like they do with johnny depp's version. like let peepaw have his layers too yknow outside of roleplay headcanons he's just as complex if not more,
I may be a fan.
Of a certain individual.
Well he could also be widower, Widower than what?!?

nada para mi tambien.
I went and made myself sad.
What if 2023 Wonka's initial succession plan was to leave the factory to Noodle, but she died before him? Which contributes to the melancholy we see in 1971 Wonka (compounded by people lying and stealing from him, of course)
Something that occurred to me upon my second watch of 2023 Wonka:
Willy drops his last silver sovereign in the drain. Charlie finds the money to purchase the chocolate bar that changes his life...::drumroll::...in the drain.
I absolutely love all the tiny parallels to 1971 Wonka, like the three steps backwards on the stairs, or the waggling of the eyebrows.
Another observation from multiple rewatches of 1971 and 2023 Wonka: There is a beautiful yet subtle difference in the lyrics to Pure Imagination.
1971:
If you want to view paradise,
Simply look around and view it.
2023 (first verse):
If you want to view paradise,
Simply look at them and view it.
Willy sang this as he watched Noodle reunite with her mother. His version of paradise would be reuniting with his mamma 😢
Parallels to Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory and Wonka 2023
For those that don't see the potential of Timmy's sweet/nice personification growing into Wilder's unhinged Wonka.
Two fun facts for you:
1) The scene where Willy is first introduced and tumbles across the carpet towards the gates of the factory? Yeah, Gene Wilder said he wouldn’t do the movie if he couldn’t add that scene in. So they let him do it.
2) When everyone is on the boat ride and goes through the LSD tunnel, Willy’s monologue was improvised. All the actors were genuinely afraid Gene was having some sort of mental breakdown while filming. This man was an absolute legend.
I am very drunk and listening to toto’s Africa
I’m thinking about watching Charlie and the chocolate factory, but the one from the 1970s where gene wilder is giving off heavy ‘fuck them kids’ energy and the lighting makes it look like the Great Depression
I, uh, don't remember the context for this
Who needs it tho. It's me trying to murder willy wonka
