“I can’t fucking believe it!” (Y/N) cursed and pressed her pillows on her ears, groaning in anger. “This is just disrespectful.”
It had been a long day for (Y/N) and the thing she craved doing the most during the whole day was having a chill and early night, but things started to go sideways from the moment she stepped into her apartment. It was the same old chaos, with all the people hired to work for your family running around the house and your mom smoking a cigarette and checking some emails in the living room. She didn’t give two fucks about how her daughter was feeling or even took a good look to see her face. She only mumbled ‘I got a date, so don’t wait up’ and disappeared hours later with a pretty red dress.
The whole night was hard, trying to take care of herself and staying hydrated. Also, it was one of the nights her mental health was getting the best of her. She was feeling lonely and weak, but that was just something that happened a lot and she was getting used to it, even though nobody should get used. She tried to wash it down with hot teas and solo movie night with scented candles and a bubble bath. While she emerged in hot water, she started to think about her life, it was completely shitty and there was nothing she could do about it. Her mother didn’t care about her and her father was never around when she needed it. Also, she didn’t have any true friends and that was what she hated the most because that meant that no one liked her enough to stick around.
And then she remembered the boy she met earlier today. Tom was different than anyone she had ever met and something about him made her want to know him better like she was supposed to know him somehow. The boy didn’t leave her mind during the whole night and it was funny how he just appeared and didn’t leave. There was nothing special about the way they met, he was just nice to her and it made her feel better. Maybe after today, she would have a friend. That was too good to be true, who would want her as a friend anyway?

Being in school was almost torture if you didn’t like Noel Kaim because everyone around seemed to be talking about one thing and one thing only, Noel’s party. They were excited about it because every year it got plenty of good gossips to feed everyone for a full month. Couples were made along with fights, drunk friendships and one night stands that everyone ended up knowing about, no matter how secretive they wanted to be about it.
(Y/N) saw those parties in a very different way. Guys were always trying to talk to her so maybe they could hit that and they were never the ones she wanted to be with, disrespectful most of the times. People were trying to befriend her so they could take advantage of it, with she only wanting to drink something and spend the whole night on the dancefloor, maybe flirting with a few guys when she felt like it. And to be honest, she was kind of sick of it, wanting nothing more to skip this year’s party.
Noel wasn’t thrilled with her decision and followed her around the whole week so he could convince her of tagging along, but she was still mad about him not talking to her during vacations and about him being aggressive with her the other day. And he was everywhere she went, on her apartment, the café before classes, her mother’s office when she was over for a photoshoot, even on Saks when she went out with Courtney and Stacy for shopping. It was pissing her off.
Also, he wasn’t happy about (Y/N)’s proximity to the new London boys, the ones that everyone in school were talking about along with his party. People were wondering how it would be like to party with them, who would they hook up with or if they were even going to show up. Noel was even afraid of them dethroning him as the most popular guy in school, not that they wanted such thing. Tom hated being the centre of attention, Harrison kind of liked the attention, but there’s no way he would do anything crazy to earn it. And seeing the boys with his precious little (Y/N) infuriated him.
(Y/N), on the other hand, was loving to hang out with the boys. The night out with Tom at Vertigo was surprisingly good, and she didn’t have to worry about whether it was a date or not, because it while she was facing him, it didn’t matter anymore. And after that night, they got to hang out even more. He’d meet her at the café before class to have some pastries and a tea, she’d hang out with him and Harrison in front of the St. Jude’s entrance, he’d drive her home after class. They got so close in so little time that it was weird for both of them, but they weren’t complaining, they kind of liked it.
Harrison and (Y/N) became friends too. Of course, nothing could beat his long time friendship with Tom and her instant connection with the boy, but they liked each other’s presence. They grew into a small friendship with Tom as a bridge to connect them, and they were hanging a lot together, but (Y/N) wasn’t as opened with Harrison as she was with Tom. Maybe they didn’t have the same kind of instant connection as she had with Tom, even though she adored Haz.

Josephine’s office on Midtown Manhattan had a great view of New York’s skyline, and it was beautiful during the afternoon when the sky was orange, almost like a golden glow covered the whole city. (Y/N)’s small office could barely fit two people at the same time, but it had the most incredible view of Central Park, glowing with the afternoon sun. Sometimes she would just pop up in her mother’s office to close her door, prepare some coffee, put on some soft music and sit there watching the park. When she had work to do, it wasn’t so bad with one of those views.
Fashion work was hard. (Y/N) would watch people go crazy every time they had a big event coming and this time it was Vogue’s cover and big interview with her mother’s brand. People were freaking out to put up with some looks, trying to contact models and makeup artists. Josephine even had her daughter back in the office to help her with reaching people and even sewing last-minute outfits. And right now she was leaning back on her chair, legs resting over the table as she sipped her coffee and tried to contact models for work.
“Everything is a disaster.” Josephine said as she came into her office, slamming the door behind her. “I just need a second of quietness.”
“Do you want some coffee? Maybe tea?”
“Chamomile, please.” Her mother breathed out, and she laughed, getting up to her small coffee station on the back of her office to prepare some tea for her mother. “Your outfit looks cute.”
“Thanks.” (Y/N) glanced down to her body and chuckled. Today she went for yellow plaid high waisted pants, a simple black shirt and heels. Josie always taught her how to dress up fancy but straightforward during office times. She approached her mother, who was now sitting on her chair, and gave her some tea.
“Thank you, sweetie. I just can’t be out there any longer. They’re driving me insane.”
For the past week, Josie was too busy to pick on everything her daughter was doing. That’s why their relationship wasn’t conflictual for the past days. She even came home for dinner more than one time, and maybe she was too tired of work to go to a restaurant and talk even more about fashion with some coworker or fashion journalist.
“I got Taylor Hill and Bella Hadid to model for us.”
“I got Naomi Campbell for cover.” She said, and (Y/N)’s eyes widened.
“Oh my God, are you serious?”
“And then she cancelled.” (Y/N) rolled her eyes and leaned back at her desk, watching her mother dramatically drink her tea. “We have a week to find someone else to cover the spot.”
“Go with Bella Hadid.” She suggested, and Josie groaned.
“If I get Bella for cover, I have to find another model to cover her spot.” She finished her tea and glanced up to her daughter. It was like something clicked on her head. (Y/N) frowned as she watched her mother get up her seat and smirk.
“What are you thinking?”
“You could model for me.” Josie said as she pointed her index finger to her daughter, and (Y/N) chuckled.
“Are you serious?”
“Dead serious. You look gorgeous wearing the collection.” Josie unlocked her phone and showed her a picture where she was wearing one of Josie’s designs. “So, what do you think?”
“Are you kidding me? Of course I want to do this. Vogue fucking Magazine.”
“Good, so I’ll need you here Friday after class so we can take pictures. Come without makeup and something simple to take off.”
“I’ll be here.”

That (Y/N) and Tom quickly became best friends was obvious. How they became attached to the hip in two simple months was still an enigma to everyone around them. When Tom invited her over for dinner to meet his whole family, they were still trying to process the fact that he - for the very first time in his life - brought a girl over so they could meet her. It didn’t matter if they were dating or not, it was only intriguing because he never showed any affection to a girl, and suddenly he had one to introduce to them.
They didn’t know what it was, but they noticed the biggest smile on his face and his glossy eyes, shinning as he looked down to her. That was the moment they all knew it was something special for him. And they all noticed why he liked her that much; she was one of the nicest people they have ever met. Very polite, very charming and very funny. But again, she only behaved that way because she felt as if it was a safe environment to be herself.
And well, when it came to her family meeting Tom, it was complicated. Vicent loved him ever since they first met, on the day (Y/N) invited Tom to a chill country club day to play golf and just meet her father. They engaged a pretty decent conversation where Vicent was convinced that Tom was a good guy, and he helped (Y/N) play better, earning some tennis lessons later as well. Her father was very happy that his daughter had someone to talk care of her when he wasn’t around.
But for Josephine, things were pretty different. The dinner at their apartment was a disaster since Josie wasn’t even trying to get to know Tom because her mind was made and there was no coming back. For her, he wasn’t good enough for her daughter and should definitely stay away from her. She didn’t even try to hide the fact that she wasn’t interested in getting to know him and even cut short some of his sentences, which resulted in a very angry (Y/N) locked on her room for the rest of the weekend.
That didn’t affect their relationship though. They were closer than ever, going to every party, being each other’s wingman, having brunch together every Saturday morning and a lazy movie afternoon on Sundays. They supported each other when things were tough, and laughed with them when everything was fine. Typical BFF relationship, that now everyone knew about, making them the rumoured secret couple from school, which was obviously not true.
