Clean version under the cut! My GF said there was something artistic about her not having as much messiness around her wound (I'd originally forgotten the blood, as minimal as it is) because it looked like someone had taken this awful thing and cleaned her up. I thought it was poetic.

My men stood gathered around the mare as she spoke, too stunned to speak. She seemed fine save for the gore that spilled from her body cavity. Maggots squirmed and writhed in her decaying flesh.
How was she alive?
" It all makes sense now! I was never cut out for the family business at all! I was always far too clumsy for pottery- a bone fide bull in a China shop!"
Was it shock? Or did these vermin secrete some kind of numbing agent as they burrowed? Both? My head swam with nausea but I was unable to tear my eyes away.
