pairing: pilot!jake seresin x bartender!reader

warnings: afab reader, she/her pronouns, tooth-aching fluff, jake being putty in the readers hands! might be missing something soz

jake seresin is a man who gets what he wants. a man that snaps his fingers and has everyone falling at his feet.

that being said, when he walked into the bar he expected to see penny working as usual. what he did not expect to see though, was the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes on working the bar instead.

it made him do a double take, maybe even caused havoc in his usually steady heartbeat, created sweat to bead on his palms.

he swallowed the spit building up in his mouth, letting a smirk grace his lips and doing his best at tucking his nerves into the back of his mind, and headed over to where you were stationed talking to an older regular.

when he got close enough he was able to hear the angelic sound of your laugh and he swears he would die every day if he had the chance of being the one to cause that sound. he finally rounded his way to the seat next to the older man and when your eyes slid over to him he swears everything slowed to a stop.

when your eyes finally met with his the smile that was gracing your lips fell slightly and everything went silent, all jake was focused on was the way your eyes slid over his face, taking him in.

he loved the feel of your eyes on him, loved the idea that all your attention was centered on him, he was practically buzzing when he saw your bottom lip find its home between your teeth.

the moment between you two came to an abrupt halt when a customer cleared their throat and your headed snapped to them, an apologetic look crossing your face.

“uhh- can i get another beer?” the man asks, and you blush a pretty red and nod.

“y-yes of course,” you stutter out, turning around and grabbing a beer and uncapping it, walking over and handing it to him.

he thanks you, pays, and walks away.

you turn around, with beautifully stained cheeks and look at him, plastering on an adorably awkward smile.

“err hello, what can i getcha tonight?” you go for casual and it brings a shit-eating grin to jakes face.

“well firstly, you can give me your name,” he says in a sultry tone.

you seem to brighten a little at this, “it’s y/n!” you say so sweetly it pulls at something in jakes heart. “now is there something i can get you to drink?” you ask, tilting your head to the side slightly.

jake rubs his chin and smiles, “oh i want something to drink alright,” he licks his lips and you smile, perking up.

“great! what would you like?” by the way you are smiling at him, jake can tell you are completely clueless as to what he was insinuating.

he bites the inside of his cheek.

“i’ll- uhh i’ll have a whiskey,” he finally manages, stumped how you didn’t understand what he was saying.

you nod your head and set a glass in front of him, leaning over and pouring him a shot of whiskey.

“would you like to start a tab?” you ask, looking him in the eyes. your eyes are probably the most mesmerizing thing he’s ever seen.

he shakes his head and smiles down at you.

“i’ll be here all night darling,” he winks at you and you nod your head, starting a tab up for him.

after a few more glasses of whiskey, jake is riding on a light buzz, both from the whiskey and the sweet smiles you are sending him.

he has gotten some information out of you as he has been sitting here. you just moved here, you were looking for a job and penny offered you one, your favorite color changes depending on the day (today it is green) (the color of jakes eyes but you don’t tell him that), and that you have a weird cousin, francis, that curls her dogs hair.

every word you say has jake absolutely enthralled with you.

that, and the fact that you are absolutely not picking up on jakes blatant flirting

~

“you’re gorgeous when you smile,” jake looked at your lips, slowly looking back up at your eyes.

you smiled, “aww! thank you, your smile is pretty nice too!” you said.

~

“if you don’t stop biting your lip i’m going to have to bite it for you,”

“oh my goodness! it’s such a bad habit of mine i need to quit!”

~

“gosh i just love swimming in the ocean, it’s such a beautiful place to be!”

“i hear that if your naked you swim faster,”

“oh- well that does make sense!”

~

it’s driving jake absolutely insane in the best way.

he has been trying every pickup line in the book and all you do is rebut it with a sweetly innocent response.

jake decides it’s time to pick it up a notch.

his idea of picking it up a notch being asking you out plain and simply. so when you dance around over to his side of the bar, instantly gravitating towards him like there is a magnet between you two, he sits up straighter and it is right on the tip of his tongue to ask you out, when you speak to him first.

“oh my gosh jake, the guy over there just told me the coolest thing ever! did you know that with seahorses it’s the male that gives birth to the babies?!” you ask him, wonderment in your eyes and he can’t help but just melt.

he clears his throat and shakes his head, “no, no i’ve never heard that. what a cool fact,” he smiles sweetly at you and you smile back, turning your focus on your other customers, telling them the same thing.

he watches you for the rest of the night, never finding the right moment to ask you out because you are always one step ahead and telling him these strangely adorable fun facts and he just can’t bring himself to change the subject when you seem so excited about the topic you guys are on.

he does actually end up staying for when you ring the bell for final drinks, and stays as everyone files out.

when you go over to speak to him about some other fun fact you learned tonight he cuts you off, not being able to hold it in any longer.

“-y/n will you please go out on a date with me?” he asks, chest nearly heaving due to how fast he rushed it out.

you clamp your mouth shut in shock for a couple seconds, taking in jakes face, which is red and completely vulnerable in showing you the way he feels.

your face breaks out into a grin, “well why didn’t you say so earlier? of course!” you say.

jake takes a second to go over all the ways he was basically asking you out, looks at you and your adorable smile, and figures that’s a story to tell you another time.

right now he just smiles and swaps numbers with you, telling you he will text you about the details of the date tomorrow when he isn’t buzzing from the alcohol and your addicting smiles (you blush at that), and goes home with sore cheeks, a brain full of crazy fun facts, and a heart full of beautiful smiles and mesmerizing eyes.

a/n - I really like to pile my plate high? Anyway I made Natasha and Jake step-siblings in this because why not. I’m going to combine a lot of episodes (so I don’t have to write over 240 chapters). This is gonna be a long series so expect slow updates. I’m going to do all ten seasons so buckle your seatbelts and keep your hands, arms, feet and legs inside the vehicle at all time, because this is going to be a bumpy ride.

Is this just another Jake fic. Yes. Am I ashamed of the chokehold he has on me? Fuck no.

forever winter (lt. jake “hangman” seresin)

a/n: i feel like we don’t talk about Jake post-suicide mission enough, so i wrote this. honestly this has been the most difficult thing i’ve ever written and i’m so glad to be done with it. i don’t know why introspective pieces about Jake give me so much creative trouble but they do

summary: He knows, that on some level at least, he’s not good enough, no matter how much he pretends to be. So he puts on the facade, the “too good to be true” act, and hope no one sees through the cracks. The cracks though, are getting harder and harder to hide. Because he wasn’t good enough, was he? Sure, he saved them, but he still wasn’t enough. And maybe… maybe he’s not good enough to be here. With them. With the Navy. Maybe it’s time he start to figure out life outside the Navy, re-find and meet Jake, a person he hasn’t seen in so long, since the Hangman persona took over.

Because Hangman’s the reason no one likes him, the reason no one wants him around. They say they do now, but all good things must come to an end. It’s only a matter of time.

And then he meets her.

inspired by taylor swift’s “forever winter” and you should definitely listen while you read it.

First Impressions

Impression #1 (Your POV)

The sky is painted with vibrant pinks and oranges as the sun starts to set. It looked unreal, but that was San Diego for you. The cool autumn air flowed through the open top of your Jeep as you drove along the familiar streets from your childhood, the place you once called home. You’ve only been back for a few days, but it feels like you never left as you passed by your favorite shops and restaurants. You took note of the places you wanted to drag your boyfriend to.

With your dad being a single father in the Navy and your mother not being in the picture, he wanted you to have some stability. If your dad was deployed or stationed elsewhere, you would stay with Carole and Bradley. It wasn’t until you graduated high school that you left. You missed it. So many memories were flooding your mind. You thought back to spending summer days at the pier or the beach with Carole and Bradley. You’re brought back to sneaking out of the house to meet up with your high school boyfriend, only for Bradley to drag you back home after catching you. There were memories of attending Bradley’s baseball games with your dad. There was no doubt this city held a special place in your heart. And now you got to share that piece with Jake.

You and Jake “Hangman” Seresin had only been dating for three months when he suggested you come with him. He was set to train for a special detachment and would be up for a potentially permanent relocation to North Island. Neither of you was ready to ruin the honeymoon phase you were in, so you jumped at the chance. Soon after the decision was made, you two were quick to find a house to rent for the month and before you knew it, you were on the road leaving Lemoore behind.

After arriving early this morning and getting settled into your temporary home, you were set to meet Jake at The Hard Deck. He had left earlier than you to meet up with Coyote before everyone started to pile in. The closer you got to the bar, the more nervous you became. Jake was going to be surrounded by people he had known for a while, and you probably wouldn’t see a single familiar face, which always made you nervous. Jake had tried to reassure you earlier, but it had only partially helped.

You finally reached the bar and quickly found a parking spot. Jumping out of your Jeep, you readjusted your sundress and grabbed your jean jacket from the passenger seat. Your spot was farther in the back of the lot, but as you made your way through the cars, you could see a blue Bronco up front. You started to get excited at the thought of your ‘big brother’ Bradley being there as well. It had been a while since seeing him.

Suddenly the door of the bar opened and you saw your boyfriend and two other guys carrying someone. They tossed whoever it was out onto the sand. You don’t know what you expected to see when you got there, but this was not it. You finally recognized the man as your father, Pete Mitchell. It surprised you since he never told you he was back. Then again, your dad wasn’t the best at communicating.

As much as you wanted to be angry at Jake, you had yet to introduce him to your father, and you hadn’t shown him any pictures, so he had no idea what he looked like. Living and working around a naval base, Jake wasn’t the first naval aviator you had dated. As soon as the last guy learned who your father was, he was not shy in giving you his opinion on your dad’s recklessness. Needless to say, that relationship ended shortly after. You didn’t want the same to happen with Jake since things were going so well.

“Thanks for the beers. Come back anytime!” Jake saluted your dad and headed back into the bar.

You quickly ran over to your dad. Who looked more shocked to see you, than just being thrown out of the bar.

“Dad! Are you okay?”

He nodded as he stood up and brushed himself off. He was about to respond when you both heard the opening chords of Great Balls of Fire on the piano, followed by Bradley’s voice. You watched as his confusion quickly transformed into unmasked sadness. You know he considered Bradley the closest thing he could get to a son, and he missed him. Pete constantly asked you for updates since you still talked to him.

He was lost in thought for a moment. You placed a hand on his shoulder, breaking him out of his trance.

“Munchkin? What are you doing here?” His brows were scrunched in confusion, but he pulled you into a hug regardless.

“I could ask you the same. I thought you were supposed to be testing Darkstar,” you responded as you pulled back.

The look on your dad’s face said it all. Something had landed him in trouble, bringing him back here.

“You’re part of this mission too, aren’t you?”

He seemed surprised and you knew you hit the nail on the head.

“Well… yes and no. I’m the instructor getting the team ready. Wait, how do you know about this?”

Pete was protective of you and just like Bradley, would try to run off boyfriends because he didn’t think they were good enough for you. So you were holding off on telling him about Jake until you knew for sure it was going somewhere. Since the last three months with Jake had been more blissful and beautiful than any guy you had ever been with, you knew it was safe to tell him.

“My boyfriend is one of the aviators selected for the training of this mission. In fact, he just threw you out of the bar…” you tailed off as you saw your dad narrow his eyes.

“Which one is he?”

“The one who told you to come back anytime? About six feet tall and sounds like he’s from Texas?” You motioned his height with your hand.

Your dad sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Didn’t I warn you about dating an aviator? I know how they function, and what they’re like. You can do so much better.”

“Dad. I’m going to stop you right there. Jake is better than any guy that I have ever dated. He’s the perfect gentleman, he’s funny, and he cares about me. Please give him a chance before you immediately write him off.” Your eyes were pleading with him not to run this guy off.

You could see the gears turning in his head and he looked worried. You weren’t exactly sure what he was worried about, but figured it had to do with Jake. “Why don’t you come to our place for dinner tomorrow, say seven thirty? It’ll give you a chance to meet him as my boyfriend and not your student.”

He hesitantly nodded. “Text me the details and I’ll see you tomorrow.”

You smiled and gave him another hug. “Thank you, Dad. Love you.”

“Love you too. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He kissed the side of your head and headed towards his motorcycle.

You made your way into the bar and pushed through the crowds of people in uniform, trying to get to your boyfriend. Jake was currently in the middle of a game of pool at the back. Before you could make it over to him, you were interrupted by Bradley calling out your nickname. He stood up from the piano bench he was on and in just a few strides, made his way to you, wrapping you into a hug. “Baby Mitchell, what brings you down to North Island?”

Rolling your eyes playfully, you pulled away. “First things first, I’m not a baby anymore so we need to come up with a better nickname. Secondly, I’m staying with my boyfriend while he’s here training, which I assume you’re here for as well?”

He narrowed his eyes at the sound of the word boyfriend coming from you. Still the protective older brother. “Yes, I am. I know everyone who’s been called back, so which one is the boyfriend? Who do I have to kill?”

“That would be me.” The corners of your lips twitch upwards at the sound of Jake’s voice. He draped his arm over your shoulder, his eyes narrowed at Bradley who rolled his own in return.

“Really? Hangman?” He asked incredulously, making sure to emphasize your boyfriend’s callsign to show his disdain. Bradley, ever the drama queen.

“I take it you two know each other.” It wasn’t a question, just an observation as you noticed the tension between the two men. Neither of them said a word, silently having a pissing contest. Finally, Bradley shook his head in disbelief and then stepped back.

“I’ll leave you two to it, it was good to see you, Baby Mitch, maybe we can meet up for dinner soon. Or something.” Before you could respond, he walked towards the pool tables.

“How the hell do you know Bradshaw? Please don’t tell me you dated him.” Jake looked at you, worry written on his face.

“Ew gross, that’s my brother!” you quickly responded, scrunching your nose up in disgust.

He stepped back with wide eyes. “Bradshaw is your brother? Like… Stepbrother or brother brother?”

You laughed quietly and grabbed Jake’s hand, lacing your fingers together. “Neither if you want to get technical, but we grew up together. My dad and his dad were in the Navy together, and when my dad was away, I’d stay with him and his mom.”

He nodded slowly, still processing the news. “You never told me your dad was in the Navy.”

“Well, now you know. Having second thoughts?” you asked jokingly.

He chuckled and shook his head. “No, it would take a lot more than that to scare me away.”

“Like learning that the man you just threw out onto the beach was my father?”

He nodded, not quite catching on. “Exactly.”

You raised a brow and watched him, waiting for him to register what you said.

His face fell as soon as he processed your words. “Wait, you’re not being serious, are you? That man I just threw out… he’s not actually your father…right?”

You gave him a guilty smile and nodded meekly. “Yeah, that was him.”

Jake groaned, looking up at the ceiling as if he was waiting for some sort of divine intervention to come fix things for him. You couldn’t help but want to laugh at the sight. Jake was normally so suave and collected, so to see him panic was a refreshing sight to remind you he was indeed human.

“Well I’ve just left the worst first impression on your dad.”

You giggled and reached up to cup his cheeks, forcing him to look at you. “Maybe so, but he’s a grown man and he’ll get over it eventually. He’s not one to hold a grudge.”

You leaned up and placed a quick kiss on his lips. “Now, are you going to be okay enough to introduce me to the rest of your friends? Or should we go home and I can kiss your bruised ego better?”

“As much as I’d love to introduce you, the second option sounds so much better.”

Impression #2 (Jake’s POV)

Jake was excited to be back at Top Gun and showcase his skills in the sky. A new mission also meant he had a chance at becoming team leader, a way to show that he had what it takes to move up the ranks. So he made sure to sit up front, wanting to make sure that he could be seen. It may seem stupid because there’s only twelve of them there, it’s not going to be hard for someone to notice him, but he swears it works.

Jake mindlessly placed the toothpick in his mouth as Warlock explained vaguely why they were brought back and how one would be selected to lead a team of six. He was confident that he was the most qualified and was determined to make sure his instructor and superiors knew it.

“Your instructor is a Top Gun graduate with real world experience in every mission aspect you will be expected to master. His exploits are legendary.” Jake could hear the footsteps of their instructor from behind him. Curiosity got the better of him and he turned around, only to be met with a familiar face. The face of the man he threw out of the bar last night. His girlfriend’s dad.

He turned back towards the front, pinching the bridge of his nose. Did you know? You had to have known. There’s no way your dad hadn’t mentioned it to you, especially after last night. He wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt that maybe you just forgot, but deep down he knew that you did know and chose not to say a word. His jaw ticked in annoyance as he processed what was happening. Maverick looked directly at him, clearly amused by his reaction. Jake tried to smile, but he knew it looked forced.

The rest of the day, Jake was in his own head, trying not only to prove that he was good enough to be team leader or fly this mission, but also that he was also cut out to be dating you. He couldn’t believe he was dating Captain Mitchell’s daughter. He had heard of Maverick’s reputation through the grapevine and admired him for it. Now he had to try and prove his worth to a man who already seemed annoyed to see him without even taking the chance to get to know him.

As hard as Jake tried, he could not get one over on Maverick and had spent the day trying too hard to leave a good impression that he’s sure it was worse than last night. Between leaving Phoenix and Bob in the dust to show off, but ultimately failing, and Maverick focusing more on whatever issues he and Bradshaw had, Jake was not having a good day.

He decided to try and talk to Maverick after they were done, wanting to clear the air. But it seemed that every time he had a chance to try and grab him for a chat, he’d wander off or someone would come grab him. He was starting to think it was on purpose and he hated it. Jake hadn’t gone home to meet many parents of the girls he dated, but when he did, they loved him. He’s pretty sure your dad was not feeling the same way.

It wasn’t until everyone was leaving that Jake was able to corner Maverick in the parking lot as he was getting on his motorcycle.

“Sir, I just wanted to apologize for yesterday. If I had known-”

Maverick held his hand up. “If you had known that I was your instructor? Or that you were dating my daughter?”

Jake shrugged, not sure that any answer would please him based on how irritated he looked. “Both, honestly.”

Maverick chuckled dryly, “I accept your apology as your instructor, but as her dad…Today you showcased that you’re not afraid to leave people behind if it benefits you in any way. What does that say about how you’ll treat my daughter?”

“Sir, I would never-”

Jake was once again cut off by Maverick starting his bike, clearly not interested in anything he had to say. “You can spare me the speech. You’re only going to say what you think I want to hear and words mean nothing without action. So prove to me that you can be the kind of man that deserves her.”

With that Maverick took off, not sparing him a second glance. Jake’s phone beeped for the fifth time that day, signaling that he just received another text from you. Your texts were innocent enough, asking how his day was going, if there was a preference on what he wanted for dinner, simple things he would usually answer in a heartbeat. Truth be told, he was avoiding responding, feeling angry that you had not told him about Maverick. He looked at your text and his heart melted a little.

Hot Stuff 😘: I’m sure you’re busy, just wanted to say I love you and I hope the day has been good to you. ❤️

Regardless of how innocent and cute you were coming across in your messages, he was still sure that you hadn’t told him on purpose, leaving him irritated and ready to go home to confront you about it.

Impression #3 (Your POV)

The slamming of the door echoed through the house, rattling the framed art on the walls of the entryway. Heavy footsteps could be heard making their way to the kitchen signaling that Jake was home, and you could tell he was not happy. You pressed your lips together in amusement, trying to hold back a laugh. Facing the counter, you continued to chop the vegetables in front of you, pretending to be unaware of his presence behind you.

You know you should have told him. You know he wasn’t amused. After sending multiple texts to see how his first day went and being left on read, you knew you were in for it tonight.

“You knew, didn’t you?” His tone was harsh but rightfully so. You hadn’t told him your father was his instructor, leaving him to figure that out himself. If only you could have been there to see his reaction.

You turned around with a guilty smile. “Maybe?”

He groaned and sat down on one of the kitchen stools.

“Darling, why didn’t you tell me? I could have prepared myself and apologized for last night. I was mortified to see him walk to the front of the classroom. So instead of my usual confidence, I got into my own head and made an ass of myself. I over compensated and tried to show off, leaving a worse impression than last night. I’m sure your dad thinks my callsign is more than fitting.” His face was buried in his hands, elbows resting on the counter, and you felt terrible after seeing how genuinely upset he was. What was meant as a joke had backfired.

You walked over to him, urging him to turn in his seat so he was facing you. “I’m so sorry, baby. I should have told you, I thought it was funny, but clearly that’s not the case. What can I do?”

You brought one hand up to his cheek and he nuzzled into it, taking his time to ponder your question.

“Well… that thing you did last night? You could do that again. That would definitely make me feel better,” he replied with a mischievous grin.

You playfully rolled your eyes but leaned forward to press your lips softly against his regardless. If that’s what he wanted, that’s exactly what you’d give him.

“Alright, I can do that. In fact, I can make it even better. Hold tight, I’ll be right back.” You patted his chest and gave him another quick peck before heading back to the bedroom.

You had gone to run a few errands today when you came across a small boutique. While browsing the clothes, you came across some lingerie that was bound to drive Jake wild. It was a white lace set, complete with the thigh highs that your boyfriend loved. You were almost done changing when you heard Jake yell out to you. You couldn’t quite hear him but guessed he wanted you to hurry. “Be out in a second!”

Jake’s POV

Jake couldn’t find it in his heart to stay mad at you. It was annoying that all it took was a single kiss and batted eyelashes to give in, but he’d do anything for you. He stood up and made his way into the living room, peeling off his shirt and pants in the process, fully prepared to accept your apology. Before he could take anything else off a knock sounded at the door, causing his brows to scrunch in confusion. He tried to run through his mind of who would be visiting them, but he was coming up blank.

“Darling, are we expecting anyone?” He called out but didn’t hear a response. Clad in just his underwear, Jake moved to answer the door only to see your dad standing on the porch. Jake wanted to die. He wanted the ground to open up and swallow him whole. Pete pursed his lips as he glanced at Jake’s attire then looked up avoiding eye contact. It was evident he was unamused by what he was seeing.

“Uhhh, Captain Mitchell. What brings you here?” Jake

“She invited me over for dinner tonight. Did she not tell you?” Pete looked confused.

Jake didn’t want to add fuel to the fire that was already burning between them from his terrible first impressions. God this is getting ridiculous.

“No, no. She told me. It just slipped my mind with the busy day…” Lies. “Come on in.” He motioned for his instructor to come inside. Maverick stepped in, clearly skeptical.

Jake swore under his breath, if this was your idea of another funny joke, he wasn’t laughing. “Darling! Your dad is here!” He called out, hoping you’d come out and save him from the awkwardness that was building up.

“Alright baby, you ready?” Jake heard your sultry voice call to him from the hallway. What he hadn’t expected was to see you step out in the sexiest set of lingerie he had ever seen you wear. You must not have seen your dad because you placed your hand on your hip, biting down on your lip, eyes dark with lust as you beckoned him over with your finger. Jake’s eyes were wide and he shook his head, unable to find his voice and warn you. God this had to be some sort of cruel joke. What had he done to piss off whatever divine being that had it out for him?

Maverick cleared his throat looking away from you two, mortified by what he had just seen. Jake watched as you jumped, eyes wide with horror. “Dad? Oh my god!”

You quickly bolted out of the room and Jake was once again left alone with your dad. The awkward tension in the air was thick. How could it not after her dad witnessed that? It didn’t matter that you were two consenting adults, nobody wanted their parents to be aware of their sex lives like that. Jake gestured towards the couch, “Make yourself comfortable... I’m just going to go get dressed.”

He made a beeline for the bedroom to see you scrambling to get dressed. You looked absolutely mortified. You looked at Jake worriedly, “I’m so sorry, I totally forgot he was coming over for dinner. I would have waited for all of this.” You gestured to the lingerie that was now on the floor.

He could tell you were genuinely upset about what just happened, so he stepped forward and cupped your face in his hands to calm you down. “It’s okay.” Your eyes shifted downwards. “It’s okay. It’s awkward as all hell, but I know you didn’t do it on purpose.”

You shifted your eyes to look at him and he couldn’t help but chuckle. “You do realize that your dad is never going to like me now though, right?”

“Well he doesn’t have to as long as I do, right?”

While Jake agreed, he hoped that wouldn’t be the case. Nonetheless, he leaned down to kiss you, hoping to make you feel a bit better about what happened. You smiled gratefully before both of you moved to finish getting dressed.

The two of you walked out into the living room, the embarrassment still fresh on your minds. Luckily Maverick didn’t bring it up after you apologized for forgetting he was coming over. You hadn’t finished dinner so Jake ended up ordering some pizza. The conversation started off exceptionally awkward so Jake left it to you to try and warm your dad up.

“So dad, did you know that Jake was the top of his class at Top Gun? Even beat out our Bradley boy.” You smiled at him proudly, placing your hand on his knee and giving it a squeeze.

Maverick nodded slowly, taking a swig of the beer you had offered him and then turning to Jake with narrowed eyes. “So I’ve heard. Tell us Jake, how did you get your call sign? I’d love to hear all about that.”

Jake knew what he was doing. Maverick was trying to paint him in a negative light, trying to show you that he was known for leaving people hanging. Luckily this was something he had already admitted to you half-way through the first month of dating. You were surprised when he first told you, but you also appreciated the honesty. Since then, you made it a point to tell him that he didn’t live up to his call sign in your eyes, which only made him fall for you even more.

“Dad,” you started in a warning tone. “He’s already told me. I know what you’re trying to do and it’s not going to work.”

Jake could hear the frustration in your voice and reached below the table to lace your fingers together. You smiled at him gratefully and turned back to your dad.

“Any other ridiculous questions you’d like to grill him with or are you done?” you asked your brow cocked upward, challenging him to continue.

Maverick put his hands up in surrender. “Fine, we can talk about something else.”

The conversation shifted from Jake to the two of you catching up on things going on in your lives. He sat back silently and let you two talk, only chiming in every now and again. He was grateful the attention had been taken off him, though he didn’t miss the subtle glares Maverick would shoot his way. These next three weeks couldn’t end soon enough.

Impression #4 (Jake’s POV)

Jake was getting tired of trying to make Maverick realize he was cut out for the mission and prove that he was good enough to date his daughter. While he understood the magnitude of the mission and how important it was that they did everything down to a tee, Maverick seemed to go out of his way to point out everything little thing he did wrong. From the way he took a few seconds more to get his flight gear on, to how he prepared his jet for the day's flight, Jake couldn’t win.

On top of that you had met up with Bradshaw for dinner last night but came home in tears of frustration when he tried to convince you that Hangman was not the type of guy you should be dating. Jake wouldn’t admit it to you, but it was making him question how your relationship could survive if the two most important people in your life didn’t approve of him. He just wished they’d actually be up front and tell him why, rather than nit-picking every little thing he did while flying. His patience was wearing thin like a rubber band being stretched beyond its limit ready to snap.

Today was no exception. In fact, today was the breaking point. Tensions were running high for the whole team, but Jake was still getting the singled out passive aggressive remarks from both Maverick and Bradshaw. On top of that, both Mav and Bradley had been at one another’s throats, leaving the others to feel awkward at their arguments. Jake couldn’t help but feel like this was the perfect opportunity to say something himself.

Maverick asked Rooster why he and his team were dead, the two of them argued back and forth on why being late could get them killed. Phoenix was trying to defend Bradshaw while Jake chimed in that he wasn’t flying fast enough. Words were flying out between the two and Jake watched in amusement as someone else got berated instead of him. It was refreshing.

“It’s not the plane, sir. It’s the pilot,” Bradley defended.

“Exactly!” Mav barked back.

Jake watched as Rooster’s face fell at the insinuation. “There’s more than one way to fly this mission.”

Jake was still feeling bitter about your dinner with Bradley last night, and felt he deserved everything he was getting. He took this as an opportunity to jump in, glancing at Rooster with a devious grin. “You really don’t get it. On this mission, a man flies like Maverick here or a man does not come back. No offense intended.”

“Yet somehow, you always manage,” Bob muttered in annoyance.

Jake shrugged. “Hey, I don't mean to criticize, you're conservative, that’s all.”

Maverick gave him a warning glare. “Lieutenant…”

Jake ignored the captain, deciding now was the time to strike back. “We’re going into combat, son. On a level no living pilot’s ever seen, not even him.” Jake shifted his gaze to Maverick who seemed surprised by his words. “That’s no time to be thinking about the past.”

Maybe it was a dick move to bring Bradshaw’s dad into this, and hell, you’d probably be pissed at him when you find out. There’s no way this wasn’t getting back to you. He was taking the story that you told him in confidence as you tried to provide a backstory on why you were so close to his rival. He promised he wouldn’t say anything since it was technically Maverick and Bradley’s story to tell.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” He had Bradshaw’s attention now.

Maverick then shot a warning glance at Bradley “Rooster…”

“I can't be the only one who knows that Maverick flew with his old man.”

“Lieutenant, that’s enough.” Mav’s voice was firmer this time.

Jake ignored him, trying to keep the upper hand. “Or that Maverick was flying when his old man-”

Jake was cut off by Rooster lunging for him. He jumped out of his seat and the rest of the team held Bradley back while someone tried to push him back, keeping a safe distance between the two.

“I’m cool, I’m cool, hey, hey, hey,” he puts his hands up in surrender, though his smile is smug. He knows that he’s left another terrible impression on your father, but he can’t bring himself to care this time around.

Maverick turned to glare at him. “That’s enough.”

Jake made his way through the crowd of the team, trying to leave the room. “He’s not cut out for this mission.”

“That’s enough!”

“You know it…you know I'm right,” he repeated before walking out of the room. God that felt good.

First Impressions

When Jake got home, he could hear you in the kitchen. You were currently washing the dishes and kept your back to him as he approached. He wrapped his arms around your waist nuzzling his nose into the nape of your neck.

“Hey darlin’. How was your day?”

He was met with silence as you continued to scrub the dish in hand. You knew. Jake let out a sigh and stepped back, leaning against the island.

“You’re mad.”

A clatter sounded in the kitchen as you dropped the pan back into the sink confirming what he already knew. You threw the sponge down with a huff and turned around to face him.

“Yeah, I’m mad! I told you that in confidence and now I have both my dad and Bradley calling to yell at me for telling you!” You looked hurt and betrayed more than you looked angry, but that only made him feel worse. He betrayed your trust after you told him something that he promised to keep to himself. His stomach clenched at the thought of you not trusting him anymore because of this stupid mistake.

Jake pushed off the counter and walked towards you hesitantly. You raised a brow, challenging him to step forward. With a sigh he paused a few steps away. “Darlin’ I’m sorry. Everything was building up and I just snapped. You have to understand that I-”

“Oh please tell me what I have to understand, Jake. Do I have to understand how you betrayed my trust? Or how you’re actually living up to your callsign right now?”

Jake frowned, stepping back. “That’s not fair. I have had to put up with so much shit from both your dad and Bradshaw. I don’t need it from you as well.”

“I understand being upset by my dad and Bradley. They don’t understand you like I do, and I have defended you each time! But this? This was just plain cruel. I can’t defend you this time because it was so clearly intentional!”

Jake could see how frustrated you were but the problem was that he was just as angry. Both of you were hot headed and neither of you would back down quietly.

“Well maybe I don’t want you to defend me because you’ve done a real bang up job so far.” Jake snapped.

Hurt flashed in your eyes and he felt a pang of guilt but you were fast to retort so it left as quickly as it came. “It’s because you don’t make it easy since you insist on being a dick every five seconds!”

At this point both of you were saying things just to hurt one another and it was working. Jake narrowed his eyes and his jaw ticked. “Let me make it easier on you then and give daddy a real reason to hate me. This relationship is doomed and I should have ended it the moment I found out who your father was. I don’t stand a chance of being chosen for team leader because of it, and I’ll be damned if I let anyone or anything stand in the way of my career, even you!”

He watched as your face fell and your bottom lip quivered. He had to swallow the lump that formed in his throat when he realized he took it too far. “Darling wait, I-.”

You swiftly left the kitchen and he tried to follow after you, but you locked yourself into the guest bedroom. Jake leaned his forehead against the door, trying the handle even though he knew it wouldn’t budge. “Darling, I didn’t mean any of that. Please come out so we can talk.”

“I don’t really want to talk to you right now,” You quietly replied from the other side of the door. Your voice was shaky and he knew you were crying. Jake sat down outside the door, resting his back against the door. He hated that he was the one to reduce you to tears.

Jake’s not sure how much time had passed as he sat and listened to your sobs turn into light sniffles here and there. He would try and talk to you through the door only for you to ignore him, not that he blamed you. He had taken it too far, saying things he didn’t really mean.

After the sound of the lock clicked he jumped up as you opened the door. Your eyes were red and puffy, and the guilt consumed him once more. “I’m so sorry.”

You held your hand up and shook your head. “I don’t want to hear it right now, because there was obviously some truth to what you said, otherwise it wouldn’t have been on your mind. I think I should go stay somewhere else for a few days, and both of us need to cool down.”

Jake’s heart dropped into his stomach. “Where are you going to go?”

“I texted Penny, she said I could stay in her spare bedroom.” You slipped by him and made your way to your shared bedroom. It took him a second to comprehend what you said then quickly followed you into your shared bedroom.

“Please don’t go.”

You shoved some things into a duffel bag, ignoring his plea for you to stay. He walked over to you and gently grabbed your hand, clasping it with both of his own and bringing it up to his chest. “I love you, you have to know that.”

Your lip trembled as you peered up at him, eyes watering once again. “I thought I did but everything you just said has me questioning that.”

Jake dropped your hand and stepped back, once again being fueled by anger. “Fine, believe what you want. Just know that if you walk out that door, there may not be an us to come back to.”

Jake stormed out of the room before you could say anything. He grabbed his keys as he walked out the front door, slamming it behind him. He couldn’t stay and watch you leave, so he left you instead.

Fifth Impression (Jake’s POV)

The last week without you has been hell. Every time he tried to pluck up the courage and call or text you, he chickened out. He so desperately wanted to take back his words, but he let his pride get the better of him. Jake has seen you twice since you left, and neither time has left him hopeful that you’d return. The first was the day of the dog fight football on the beach. You were sitting with Penny as she did some work. He caught you glancing at him now and again, but once the game was over and before he could find you to talk, you had disappeared. The second time was at Admiral Kazansky’s funeral. He wanted nothing more than to wrap you in his arms and comfort you. You had told him that you viewed him as family and he knew you were devastated. Your eyes met his briefly but you quickly walked away then as well.

Now it was the day they were leaving for the mission and he hadn’t been chosen as team leader, but he didn’t care about that anymore. He thought it would hurt more, but losing you was so much worse. He hates that it took this to make him realize that he’d choose you over a mission any day.

Jake watched as families were gathered to say goodbye to their loved ones. He spotted you across the way. You hugged your dad tightly as he kissed the top of your head before he moved on to hug Penny goodbye. At that point you wandered a little ways away to then say your goodbyes to Bradshaw. He looked around, wishing he had someone here to see him off. He wished he had you.

When you say your farewells to Bradshaw, Jake is surprised to see you walk his way. You’re slow to approach him so he meets you halfway. He’s been desperate for any sort of contact with you, that he doesn’t mind that the air is thick with tension.

“Please be safe.” You blurt out, looking up at him with worried eyes.

His heart clenched, happy to see you still cared enough to worry about him. He was still holding out hope you’d blurt out that you missed him, or something to give him any reassurance that he hadn’t fucked it up for good. “Always am.”

You hesitated a moment before leaning up to press a kiss to the corner of his mouth. He didn’t want this moment to end. He wanted to pull you into his arms, apologize, and tell you to come back home.

“I love you.” He blurted out, eyes searching yours as you pulled back. He wanted to hear you say it back before he left, just in case.

You opened your mouth to speak before someone came over and told him it was time to get on the ship. He nodded and looked at you one last time, hoping you’d say it back but you didn’t. He leaned down and kissed the top of your head before turning away to get on the ship, figuring it was really over.

First Impressions

The day of the mission had arrived and Jake was feeling nervous for his fellow aviators and he was sitting on the flight deck, ready to jet off if needed. He never thought he’d see the day, but he was actually scared for Bradshaw and your dad. He could appreciate that there were people out there willing to go to bat for you, and protect you from getting hurt. He should have been willing to fight harder to win them over, and if he got the chance, he would definitely try, but first he needed them to make it out alive.

As he listened in on the comms, his stomach was in knots. He could only think of you, and how the two people you loved most were out there risking their lives. There was relief across the board when people heard they managed to strike the target both times. Jake shared in that celebration, even doing a little dance in the cockpit. As exciting as it was that they were successful, they weren’t out of the woods just yet.

As each dagger made its way into coffin corner, chaos ensued as they tried to dodge the incoming SAMS. He could hear the panic in everyone’s voices as they tried to defend one another while narrowly missing being hit themselves. Jake’s heart nearly stopped when he heard Bradshaw say he was out of flares, but it was the moments that followed that did him in. Dagger one was hit. Your dad had been shot down. He could hear the devastation in Bradshaw’s voice and immediately thought about how you would react to the news. He couldn’t stand by and do nothing.

“Dagger spare, request permission to launch and fly air cover!” Jake spoke into his radio, hoping he could help in any way.

He threw the receiver back down as his request was denied. He felt completely hopeless. He could picture getting off the carrier, to see you waiting for your dad, only to be told he had been shot down in enemy territory. The thought made him feel physically ill, but all he could do was listen as the team told Rooster that Mav was gone and there was no going back. Then tragedy turned into a full blown nightmare as he heard the words “Dagger two has been hit,” just minutes later. Jake stared down at his radio in devastation, unable to process what was happening.

He wasn’t sure how much time passed before his other teammates were landing on the carrier. All of them looked tired and broken. Everything seemed hopeless and Jake was sure it’s the closest he has ever come to having a panic attack. As everyone was getting ready to mourn the loss of their two squad members, something in the universe understood that the team needed this win. Someone on the comms said that Rooster's signal was live. He almost didn’t believe it, until they mentioned something about an F-14 headed their way.

Jake’s stomach flipped when they finally gave him the order as the spare to launch and fly air cover, to make sure Bradshaw and Maverick got to the carrier safely. They didn’t have to give the order twice before Jake was ready to take off and in the air.

He made it just in time to see the enemy launching an attack, the F-14 making a steep incline upwards to avoid being hit.

He locked onto his target and fired, the enemy jet exploding, taking the missle bound for the F-14 with it. He could hear the confusion over the comms as Rooster and Maverick tried to figure out what had happened. Jake flew through the cloud of smoke, hearing the sigh of relief.

“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. This is your savior speaking,” he smirked through the comms, unable to keep from showing off just a little.

“Hangman, you look good,” Rooster called.

“I am good, Rooster. I’m very good.”

First Impressions

Stepping off the carrier, Jake’s eyes immediately searched for you. He knew it was a long shot, but he hoped you’d want to see him, or at least allow him to apologize again. What he hadn’t expected was to hear you calling his name as you ran towards him. There you were, the beacon of light at the end of a dark tunnel, growing bigger and brighter the closer you got.

Maverick and Bradley were somewhere close behind, but you immediately ran for him. As soon as you reached him, you jumped and wrapped your arms around his neck, burying your head into the crook of his neck. He could feel his neck getting wet with your tears. Jake wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you close.

He heard you choke back a sob. “I love you, Jake. I’m so sorry that I let you leave thinking otherwise. The whole time you were gone I couldn’t stop thinking about how much I’d regret not saying it back if something had happened to you.”

Jake’s hand rubbed up and down your back, trying to bring you even a sliver of comfort. “Hey, it’s okay. I’m here now and I’m okay.”

You pulled back, glassy eyes peering up at him. “We’re not actually over, are we? Because I left and I-”

Jake cut you off by pressing his lips to yours gently. God he had missed you, missed this. You melted into the kiss and he could feel your body relax in his arms. He pulled away after a moment. “Does that answer your question?”

You nodded with a small smile. “Yes. Yes it does.”

Someone cleared their throat from behind Jake and both of you turned to see Bradley and Maverick standing there. Jake loosened his grip from your waist and you ran to give Bradley a hug first.

“I’m so glad you’re okay.”

You then ran to your dad, wrapping your arms around him. “Both of you.”

Mav gave Jake a grateful smile once more from over your shoulder. “You can thank your boyfriend for that.”

You pulled away and looked between the three of them in confusion.

“Without going into all the details and worrying you unnecessarily, Jake saved Bradley and me. We are alive because of him.”

Your head whipped towards Jake who gave you a half smile. He wasn’t looking for any glory, he was just glad you had a family to greet today. You ran back over to him and wrapped your arms around his neck once more, looking up at him with teary eyes.

“Thank you,” you whispered.

Jake shrugged, “It’s no big deal.”

“It’s a big deal to me, so thank you.” You buried your head in his neck once more, and he held onto you tightly. He relished the feeling of you in his arms once more, taking note of how he didn’t want to let you go ever again.

“I love you,” he mumbled into your ear.

“I love you, too.”

THUNDERSTRUCK

Pairing: Jake Seresin x Reader AU, Hangman x Reader AU

Part 2

THUNDERSTRUCK

The evening sun shone through the windshield as you drove through the near empty streets of Arlington. It was odd to have such peace on the road but it was something you took time to cherish. You ran your hands lazily through Jake’s long hair and smiled to yourself. The song that was stuck in your head was now being hummed softly.

“You sound lovely my dear.” Jake complimented you with his southern drawl coming across loud and clear. He laid his head in your hand as you stroked his cheek. He turned his cheek slightly allowing his lips to touch the soft skin of your palm. “Just lovely.” He mumbled.

You were satisfied with the feeling of his skin on yours as he drove closer to the banquet which would be hosted at the practice facility complex called The Star. Butterflies began to grow inside you as you got out of the car.

“Who are you excited to see most?” He wondered already knowing the answer. You rolled your eyes and cracked a smile. Jake knew who your best friend from the team was and it happened to be his QB. They bumped heads all the time when football was at stake other wise they were entirely docile in each other’s company.

“Rooster, now why would you ask such a thing?” You chuckled as his warm hand surrounded your small one.

“Just checking to see if you still had a crush on my quarterback.” He joked pulling your closer to him. The sun was still warm seeming as Texas didn’t get cold anytime soon but there was the slightest change in the air that chilled the bones of a Southern woman easily.

Jake held the door as you crossed allowing your thigh high stiletto boots click and clack on the floor. You turned suddenly with a look of terror on your face.

“What? What is it?!” He wondered grabbing you by the forearms.

“Did you remember to feed the dog, Ghost needs dinner too.” You asked watching relief flow through his body. He relaxed his shoulders slowly and then a smile broke out on his face.

“Don’t scare me like that! Of course I did.” He chuckled running his hand over his beard. “You gave me a heart attack.”

You raised an eyebrow. “You should have a stronger heart than that linebacker.” You poked fun walking ahead of him listening to him groan behind you. The sound made your core ache but you had to push it to the side for your face was now visible to the team and the owners.

“Y/N!” You heard the familiar tones of Rooster calling you from where he stood dressed to his best.

“Roo!” You called back running into his arms. He picked you up off the ground. You were placed on your feet again and looking over your shoulder to make sure you weren’t getting a look from your director, Penny, who happened to be the coach’s wife.

You had already broken rule number one by dating a player. You broke rule number two by being friends with the team this closely. You broke rule number three by getting drunk at team events like this one. But you were a damn good dancer with a long history within the Cowboys organization and you kept it classy. Rooster reached down and pecked your cheek quickly.

“Looks like someone's shrunk an inch since last time I saw you." he teased causing you to pout.

You were short there was no way around it and being around all these large guys always made it stand out even more. You often restored to trying to act tougher and taller than you really were. You looked to your right to see Payback approaching.

"Reubey Tuesday!" You exclaimed and practically leapt into his arms. “How are you?!" You wondered loudly.

“I’ve been good pretty girl, looks like you've been getting into the alcohol supply" he teased at your level of volume.

“I may have pregamed." You admitted sheepishly. You took in his appearance and smiled.

“Reube you look so handsome all shaved up" you complimented as your rubbed your hand over his cheek.

“Where’s The Hangman?" Payback wondered to grabbing your attention back to him.

Which come to think of it was a very good question, you definitely did not want that guy to be coming after you. After a quick scan you spotted him and nodded your head in the direction of the coach, they were deep in conversation.

“At least now I’ve got you two to save me from having to make small talk.” You smiled wide and wrapped your arms around their waists the best you could.

“That you do little lady" Rooster laughed noticing how you were leaning side to side even with their support.

I’m glad" you sighed happily. Rooster swallowed hard trying to make his heart stop racing. He looked up and then forced the words out of his mouth, "well well well if it isn’t my linebacker."

“You guys corrupting her again?" he teased as he walked up to the threesome.

“Oh of course we are" Reuben joked as he clapped Jake on the back.

"Are you guys sitting with us?" he asked and Rooster nodded his head confirming he was. He knew he couldn’t resist the chance to be next to you.

You sat in between Jake and Bradley as the ceremony began. Jake had his hand gently resting in your thigh rubbing last circles into your skin. The motion was calming to say the least. It was almost hypnotizing.

Quickly you shot Jake a warning look as his hand made its way farther up your thigh. The lights were dimmed, no one would know. Well no one except Rooster who you could feel next to you. His eyes were tracking your every move even in the dark. Something about that excited you. Maybe it was added blanket of security that washed over you. However it was quickly interrupted by the loud applause of the crowd that shook you from your inner monologue.

You took down another two glasses of champagne to hide your growing nerves. And to dull the fact that every touch Hangman gave made your body react in ways you couldn’t relieve here in the middle of a banquet hall. Jake kept you close, practically attached to his hip as you walked to the car in the parking lot.

“You look simply radiant tonight.” He complimented you moving your hair out of your face.

“You’re only saying that because you won an award and feel like chatting.” You teased challenging him instantly. You knew he wanted to get lucky and was buttering you up so you were gonna play the long game.

“I’m awfully tired honey, let’s go home.” You feigned a large yawn and he groaned in disappointment. Nonetheless he opened your door for you letting you inside. He warned it to you liking now that night air carried a chill to it and began to drive off.

You kept your hand on his lap and glanced over at him. He was absentmindedly rubbing his thumb over his beard holding his chin in place while he drove. He was focussed ahead. You pushed your body carefully into the bucket seat in the middle and rested your head on his shoulder. He sighed contently.

“I missed you, you were too far away.” He whined as he placed a large hand on your warming skin. “Jesus baby you’re freezing.” He hissed.

“Why don’t you warm me up then Cowboy?” You mused against his sharply cut jawline.

The truck jerked in the lane, veering to the side a little.

“You trying to make me crash?” He exclaimed looking at you like you were a madwoman. You simply smiled and giggled before placing nibbles on his neck.

“Maybe.” You quipped smartly.

Jake harshly shook the wheel turning into a fairly empty parking lot. You pounced on his lap as soon as the truck was set to park. Quickly you fumbled with his belt trying to unlock it from itself. He was working on the zipper to your dress. Lips were taking and giving sloppy kisses in the heat of the moment. The desperation hung thick in the air. Within a few seconds Jake was tapping your shoulder in urgency.

“Baby.” He said trying to get your attention.

“What?” You answers kissing him again.

“Baby! Stop!” He pushed you off his quickly and got himself readjusted. For a moment you were running red with rage until you saw what he did.

“Just act cool.” He said making you roll your eyes. That was the most cliche thing he could’ve thought of.

He rolled down the window and flashed a smile.

“Evening officer.” Jake greeted softly.

The officer shined his light into the vehicle causing you to wince under the harsh light. You knew what he was seeing. Jake with his pants unbuckled and his manhood trying to escape. You with touched hair and bite marks that were going to show by morning. The look of guilt all over your faces. The officer let his face change as soon as he took in the driver.

“Why I’ll be! Jake Seresin?! The Hangman! No one is gonna believe this! Can I grab a quick autograph? I’m sorry for troubling you.” He wondered giddy as he could be.

“Sure I don’t see why not! You got something to write on?” He wondered with a laugh in his throat.

The officer fumbled around for a moment looking for something before he took out his ticket book. He handed it over sheepishly.

“Who should I make this out to?” Jake asked uncapping the pen he was given.

“To uh- to Larry if you’d please.” He nearly giggled. You watched Hangman sign the paper.

“Howdy ma’am.” The officer awkwardly waved to fill the silence. You gave an awkward wave back.

“There she is!” Hangman stated handing it back over.

“Thank you so very much sir! You guys have y’all selves a nice evening!” He exclaimed before departing.

Jake sighed in relief before looking back towards you. It was silent as you both took in the moment. Simultaneously you both burst out in wild laughter.

“Let’s go home.” You decided with a grin.

“Let’s go home.” He agreed.

Gravedigger’s Daughter (Hangman x Fem!Reader) -- epilogue

Okay this is officially the end 🥺 I’m so so glad you guys loved this story as much as I did. I definitely wasn’t expecting it to take off the way it did when I started writing it. I was just trying to satisfy my brain’s weird obsession with Hangman, and clearly so many of you needed that too. I don’t normally write mini-series (I’m a very long-winded person) but this one was so fun, and so touching to write. Thank y’all for all your comments and love on this. It means the world 💛💛💛

Summary: You’re finally back in Fightertown to visit Penny and Amelia, but there also happens to be a group of aviators back at Top Gun. One of which who seems dead-set on wooing you.

Warnings: some ~sexy~ comments, mentions of pregnancy, mentions of vomiting, housewife!Hangman and dad!Hangman 🤪

WC: 2.4k

Gravediggers Daughter (Hangman X Fem!Reader) -- Epilogue

Hangman helps you move your things from your old apartment to Penny’s house, and you have to admit, it’s a sight for sore eyes.

Seeing him in jeans that hug his hips, t-shirts that show off his muscles, not to mention a belt with a buckle that screams Texas man, it’s almost too much to handle. It is too much to handle. You admit that there were a few times during moving boxes that everything was dropped and some fun was had instead.

“We’re never gonna get you moved,” Jake laughs, holding you close, your bare chests touching. During this most recent session, you were on top, and you have to say, you liked it.

“Not if you keep looking like that,” you smile, pressing a kiss to his lips, threading your fingers through his hair. “It’s your fault.”

Fighter Town Calls

Fighter Town Calls

A/N: Guess who has a laptop again! Yes I know it's been a while and I am so sorry. Please enjoy this new chapter of Family Line.

Taglist:  @khaylin27 - @renajimaa - @dempy - @peakascum - @luckyladycreator2 - @starkleila - @pansexualwitchwhoneedstherapy - @havlindzk

Warnings: Fluff, talk of canon character death, a little angst

Characters: Reader / Y/N Seresin nee Bradshaw, Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin, Nicholas ‘baby goose’ Seresin, Javy ‘Coyote’ Machado, Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky, Sarah Kazansky, Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw (mentioned), Dagger Squad (Present but not involved)

Summary: Upon your return to Fighter Town, you decide to take baby Goose to see your godfather while Jake and Javy head on over to the Hard Deck. While you play catch up with Uncle Ice, 2 figures from your past can’t help but show up, causing Jake to butt heads with one and embarrass himself in front of the other.

Part 1. Previous Part Next Part

Returning to Fighter Town was both a joyous occasion but also a heart wrenching moment. This was the very town that you grew up in for some time and it was the same town the training accident where your father died in occurred. But since you and Jake were both in the navy, you knew you couldn’t disobey the orders to return.

You arrived a day earlier so you could get used to the house that the navy provided off base for you three and get Nick used to the new change in his life. You managed to unpack majority of your boxes but you figured you could leave the rest for another time.

“Y/N!” suddenly rings out from the lounge room.

“Yes Jake?” You reply, sticking your head out of the kitchen.

“Javy and I are going to head to the Hard Deck to suss out who else is here” Jake informs you, heading in your direction.

“Oh that’s fine, I think I’m going to take Nick to see Uncle Ice” thinking of your godfather.

And with that, Jake kisses you a gentle goodbye before he heads off to meet Javy at the bar. You head up to Nick’s room to wake your napping baby and change him for the trip. While Nick slowly comes out of his sleeping daze, you text Uncle Ice to see if it’s alright for you to come over.

Uncle Ice: Come for dinner, Sarah would love to see you both

Grabbing your keys, you place Nick in his car seat and head on over to the Kazansky residence, a place of your most fond childhood memories. Thinking about how Jake and Javy are going, but with in that split moment Bradley also passes your mind. Shaking your head, it’s never a good thing to bring up the past.

Arriving at Uncle Ice’s, you spot Aunt Sarah at the front door steps as you unbuckle Nick and get him out of the car.

“Oh it is so good to see you dear, and hello little man” Aunt Sarah greets you with a kiss on the cheek and takes Nick out of your arms.

“It’s good to be home Aunt Sarah” you respond back, giving Aunt Sarah a side hug as you both head inside the house.

Looking around, you remember all the times you spent holidays here before the fight with Bradley.

“He’s up in his office if you wanna go see him first” comes from Aunt Sarah, snapping you out of your memories.

Thanking Aunt Sarah, you head on up and knock twice on Uncle Ice’s door. Hearing a rasped “Come in”, you quietly open the door to step through before closing it behind you.

“Hi Uncle Ice” You greet, heading over to give your godfather a kiss on the cheek before sitting on the opposite side of the desk. It hurts your heart to see Uncle Ice suffering from battling throat cancer and the effects on him, but you knew he was a fighter and always has been.

You and Ice spend a few minutes catching up before heading downstairs for him to see mini Goose and have dinner. You talk about what has been happening and if he can give you any details about the upcoming mission, to no surprise he keeps tight lipped about. Continuing eating dinner and spending time with them, you wonder what chaos Jake is up to.

At the Hard Deck

Jake manages to land another bullseye on the dart board causing Javy to groan in annoyance at his friend winning again. While this is happening, there’s a patron sitting at the bar, observing the 2 men. Jake lets out a chuckle before taking a sip of his beer before finishing the game. They both head over to a free pool table where Javy proceeds to rack the balls. While Javy sets up, Jake heads over to the bar to get more drinks courtesy of the patron who caused the free drink bell to ring.

“Penny m’dear,” Jake drawls out leaning on the bartop, “2 beers on the old timer” sending a wink.

Once receiving his order, Jake turns around and heads back for Javy, a slight chuckle leaving his lips at the thought of the man being Maverick, your supposed uncle who caused you heart break one too many times.

Javy and Jake play a few rounds of pool, before the evening rush comes in and things start to pick. Looking up as three people make their way across the bar floor, Jake chuckles.

“What do we have here?” Jake calls out, “Well if it ain’t Phoenix”

“And here I thought we were special Coyote, turns out the invite went to anyone” Jake says with a smirk on his face, waiting for Phoenix’s so loved nickname for him to come.

“Fellas, this here’s Bag man” and there it is, Jake thinks to himself.

It is 10 minutes later while Phoenix is playing a round against her new WSO, BOB,when the bane of Jake Seresin’s entire life strolls through the door without a care in the world.

Now Jake didn’t always have an issue with Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, sure he thought he was a bit of a flight risk, taking too long to make decisions in the air. But as soon as he met and married you, the love of his life, Bradshaw became a lot worse in his books especially because he cut you out of his life and hurt you beyond belief.

Jake clenched his jaw and took a deep breath before he nearly made a comment, or punch the fellow pilot.

“Bradshaw as I live and breath” Hangman strolls around the pool table taking the poolstick off of Bob.

“Hangman” Bradley greets.

Rooster and Hangman exchange a bit of rivalry banter, before Jake decides to move on.

While the juke box cuts out, Maverick's card declines causing Penny to ring the bell once more leading to customers to yell out "Overboard" repeatedly.

Jake and one of the other boys head on over, hooking their arms under Pete's armpits leading him out and tossing him onto the sand.

"thanks for the beers! Come back anytime" Jake salutes the older man, with a cheeky grin on his face.

During Bradley’s ‘famous’ piano piece, Jake decides to head on home hoping to get home and spend some time with you and Nick before tomorrow. Nodding his head to Coyote, he drives out of the car park.

By time Jake gets home, Nick is washed and put into bed asleep while you lay in your bed waiting for Jake to get home. On the drive over, Jake decides not to tell you about Rooster’s appearance in Fighter Town, wanting to spare you the old heartbreak.

You spend some time together in bed, knowing Jake has a very long day the next morning. Only you don’t know what is lying around the corner.

The longer that you stay, the ice is melting (Jake Seresin x fem!Reader)

Summary: Some people called you heartless or cold, but you were just trying to protect yourself. And then Jake Seresin knocked down the walls you so carefully built.

Warnings: swearing, fluff, feelings (lots of them), little bit of smut, it's just thigh riding, allusions to more smutty times, and angst, angst, angst, mentions of shitty families and trust issues (have you noticed that I absolutely cannot write non-dysfunctional families??), Phoenix and Rooster being the most amazing friends, some flashbacks in italics. The reader's callsign is Viper (let's ignore canon and pretend there was no one with that callsign in either of the movies) because it fits her. Did I mention angst? Idk, the ending kinda feels off so I might make a part two.

A/N: AND THE PAIN FEELS OKAY, IT FEELS OKAAAYEEEAAYY. Except it doesn't.

You mean to tell me I finally finished this thing, after 3 months?! Just to let everyone know, I'm writing a TGM mob AU, here's the masterlist, the taglist is on there too! Posting the first chapters this weekend. And on that note, if you like Jake Seresin fics, @whatislovevavy has an amazing series that is a must read! Seriously, it's so underrated but so good. The smut is so yummy, the tension made me feel all tingly. Can't get enough of it.

Reminder to change your content preferences so you can see smut even when our fics get community labels :).

The Longer That You Stay, The Ice Is Melting (Jake Seresin X Fem!Reader)

You said goodbye to Phoenix, turning to walk in the opposite direction. The whole squad went to Hard Deck for a few drinks after a long, tiring week and it was time to go home. You were enjoying the quiet and peace when you heard footsteps coming your way from behind you.

You turned your head, spotting Hangman. It felt like all of the happiness you’ve felt until now was drained out of your body.

It wasn’t like you hated him, you definitely wouldn’t say that. You just thought he was an arrogant asshole and you’d rather swallow a box full of razors than be alone with him for more than 5 minutes.

He was hot to look at, but the second he opened his mouth, that magic was over.

“Y/L/N.” The way your name sounded coming out of his mouth…you wanted to throw up from his voice alone.

“Seresin.” you said cautiously, turning back around and continuing to walk. Why did you have the feeling he was following you?

It’s because he was.

He caught up with you, standing in your way to stop you from walking. You tried to walk around him, but he blocked you. “I was wondering…” You definitely weren’t interested in what was going on in Jake Seresin’s head, but you wouldn’t get rid of him until he told you anyway. “Tomorrow. You, me, some good Chinese take out?” he asked, looking at you with a grin, a toothpick in his mouth.

You kind of hoped he’d choke on it.

Your brows furrowed, looking him up and down, trying to find where he was getting all this audacity from. “Is that the best you’ve got?” you asked, annoyed. “Because if so, you’re pathetic.”

His grin fell and you tried to commit that look on his face to your memory. You loved destroying men’s egos.

“Step up your game, Hangman.” you yelled after him as you walked away.

Jake scoffed, biting down on the toothpick. “Oh, I’m going step up my game so good, you’re going to fall in love with me.” he promised into the night, even though you couldn’t hear him anymore.

The Longer That You Stay, The Ice Is Melting (Jake Seresin X Fem!Reader)

And in the next few days, he did just that.

You found it weird. It’s not that Hangman never tried to talk to you or flirt with you before. He was notorious for that.

But he definitely never followed you like a lost puppy everywhere. It seemed you couldn’t get away from him, like he was glued to you. It was annoying.

Jake walked up to you as you stood in the hangar waiting for Phoenix, his hands behind his back. There was a smile present on his lips and you sighed. What did you ever do to be punished like this?

“So, since the Chinese wasn’t good enough for you-“

You didn’t even let him finish the sentence, already fed up with him. “It wasn’t about the Chinese, it was you.”

But he didn’t falter. “I have a better suggestion.”

“Can’t wait to hear it.” you mumbled under your breath sarcastically, knowing there was no way you were getting any peace from him.

“Museum of art?” Your head snapped to his, brows furrowed. “I know you love art.”

You had no idea how he knew that, but it didn’t matter. “You’re right, I do. But I’m still not going with you.” You started walking away from him and over to Rooster, looking back one last time. “Give up.”

He shook his head with a grin. Giving up wasn’t Jake Seresin’s style. “Never.”

The Longer That You Stay, The Ice Is Melting (Jake Seresin X Fem!Reader)

You barely bat an eye now when Jake waited for you after a day of gruelling training.

You might have felt a little shocked to see the bouquet of flowers in his hands, but you weren’t about to show it.

“Gorgeous flowers for a gorgeous girl.” His smirk was irritating more than usually, the sunglasses hiding the one attribute you actually liked about him; his eyes. Which means he was out of luck today. You looked at the flowers, your traitorous heart jumping a little in your chest at the beautiful baby pink roses, complimented nicely by baby’s breath. It looked beautiful. So it physically hurt to say your next sentence.

“I’m allergic to baby’s breath.” you mumbled, not giving him a second to respond before you were walking away.

It was a complete lie. You weren’t allergic. But you would cut off both your arms before accepting something from him.

Jake Seresin changed tactics. Instead of just plainly annoying you, he now got you gifts.

And you were ashamed to say whatever he was trying to do was working, because anytime you looked at flowers now, you thought about him.

Anytime you were out shopping and tried to reach for your favourite chocolate, you could only see his big grin as he stood in front of you, which turned into a frown once you told him you were on a diet.

“Diet?” He scoffed. “You don’t need a fucking diet.” he said, shamelessly scanning your whole body, eyes stopping to admire your curves.

You rolled your eyes, huffing. Inside though? You knew you wouldn’t be able to keep up this façade if he continued like this.

You tried to remind yourself that this was Jake. He just wanted to sleep with you and the fact that he couldn’t get you so easily was exciting him. That was all.

Your heart still beat a little faster and a little louder when he looked at you like that.

Today was no different.

You felt exhausted. Your muscles were tense, and you could barely feel your legs as you walked. Work was hell.

You were trying to find Phoenix, who promised you a drink, but you had no luck finding her. Instead what you found, was Jake was sitting there, with two little kids. A little girl was sitting on his lap and a little boy was playing around with a toy plane.

Jake noticed you standing in the doorway, before beckoning you closer. The little girl looked at you in awe, her big eyes shining.

“Does she fly planes too?” she asked Jake quietly. He nodded with a smile. “She does.”

"Viper, these are my lovely niece and nephew, Noah and Mia." he introduced.

"Hi. I'm Y/N." Noah smiled at you, shaking your hand politely. Mia was a little shyer, waving at you as she buried her face in Jake’s shoulder.

"I like your callsign." Noah said in a cute, high-pitched voice. He had adorable chubby cheeks and a few front teeth missing, which you noticed as he grinned at you.

You couldn’t help but smile back, his happiness contagious. "Really? I like your jacket. It's very badass." The little boy giggled, his cheeks flushing at your compliment.

"She's pretty, isn't she?" Jake whispered to Mia, as they both looked at you. She nodded shyly, looking away as soon as you turned your head in their direction. Jake thought you were pretty.

You cleared your throat, looking away from the his face, but you did notice his soft smile. “You're pretty too, Mia.”

She thanked you, deciding that she didn’t need to use Jake as a shield anymore. She pulled away from him, standing up. “Is uncle Jake also pretty?”

You faked a disgusted look, which made the kiddos burst into a fit of giggles. Jake grumbled something under his breath and against your better judgement, you thought it was endearing. This was definitely the best version of Jake you’ve seen yet and you kinda liked it.

"Want to come get ice-cream with us?" Jake asked, before Mia walked up to you to hold your hand, pulling you with her. "Yes, come get ice-cream with us!" Noah yelled, jumping up and down.

"I can’t. I have some stuff to do." Both kids looked at you sadly. You smiled at them, kneeling on the ground to be on their level. "Maybe next time when you're visiting uncle Jake we can go for an ice-cream together. What do you say?”

They thought about it for a second, before nodding, satisfied. “Okay.”

Jake didn’t care that you weren’t getting ice-cream with them. The only thing on his mind was that you called him Jake. You used his name for the first time since he met you. That was a win in his book.

You stood up when you saw Phoenix looking at you questioningly, before waving goodbye to the kids and smiling at Jake awkwardly. “Bye.”

“Bye.” He smiled, watching you until you disappeared behind the corner.

"What was that?" Natasha asked with a smirk. "You were being civil to Hangman?"

You shrugged. "There were kids present."

Natasha eyed you suspiciously, recognizing a bullshit excuse when she heard it. "Just be careful." she warned, instantly changing the subject of your conversation after that.

The truth was, none of your friends knew what got into Jake. Everyone knew he was stubborn and determined, but never when it came to his one-night stands. If he couldn’t get the girl he wanted (which you don’t think ever happened), he moved on to the next one.

So when days passed and he always went home alone, while trying to convince you that his bed was so much more comfortable and you should try it, people started talking.

You always just rolled your eyes and laughed, not believing that Jake could actually like you.

What was there to like?

You acted like a bitch since you met him, you were mean and cold. Everyone knew that. That’s why your callsign was Viper and why everyone called you the Ice Queen behind your back.

You had reasons for being like this. Reasons that no one knew, not even Bradley and Natasha, who you considered to be your best friends.

But god, was Jake making it hard for you to stay that way.

At first, he really was annoying you with everything he did. But now, you were starting to rethink everything you felt.

The Longer That You Stay, The Ice Is Melting (Jake Seresin X Fem!Reader)

Payback invited all to his place. The men were all standing around the grill as every one of them tried to give their own opinion on how to grill burgers correctly.

Jake was the only one not part of the chaotic conversation. You wished he was though. He was just standing there, leaning against the railing and looking at you unnervingly.

You shouldn't have looked back at him and hold his gaze, because he took that as permission to bother you again.

He was walking towards you with a beer in his hand, sitting down on the chair next to you. “Y/N.”

Halo and Phoenix were sitting next to you, up until the point when they went to get more drinks from the fridge and that brief second was enough for that little snake to slither in.

“Hangman.” you said warily. “What do you want?”

Jake, ignoring your question and your unfriendly tone, sat down in the chair next to you. That last interaction made him think he was finally on the right path with you and he wasn't about to waste a single second trying to woo you. “How are you?”

“Good?”

He chuckled. “Relax. I just want to talk to you. You know, like friends.”

That made you look at him with a raised eyebrow. “Since when are we friends, Seresin?”

He winced jokingly. “Ouch, okay. Acquaintances?”

Sighing, you started to relax enough to let your walls down a little. “You’re not gonna give up, are you?”

Jake shook his head with a shit-eating grin. “Nope.”

You rolled your eyes, looking ahead and trying to ignore his presence, when he pulled his chair even closer to you. “I have a hypothesis.”

“Such a big word.” you cooed in a derogatory tone, which only made his grin widen, if that was even possible. But for the first time, you were actually interested in what he had to say.

“I think you hate me because you want me.”

You snorted. “First of all, who said I hate you?” Pulling off your sunglasses so you could look straight into his eyes, your blood pressure already started rising. “That would require me having any feelings towards you, which, I’m sorry to tell you this, but there are none." Jake tried to hide his grin, knowing it was only pissing you off more, but he just couldn't help it. He found it adorable how you tried to defend yourself. "Second, pretty egoistical of you. Have you ever thought about the fact that some people just don’t like you for you?”

Jake sighed, leaning back into his chair and taking a sip of his beer. “I did think about it, long and hard.” His voice dropped an octave lower when he said the last part and you subconciously rolled your eyes. “But I don’t think that’s possible. I’m just too lovely.”

“Sure you are.” You shook your head but you had a smile on your face. You continued sitting in silence next to each other and you had to admit it wasn't too bad.

“I don’t think you’re as much of a hard-ass as everyone says.” Jake said, pulling you out of your thoughts.

“I will have to change your mind real quick. Can’t have you thinking I’m getting soft.” You glared at him jokingly, but there was a smirk present on your face, proving that you didn't really mean it.

Jake shrugged. “We’ve been talking for half an hour and I already made you crack a smile.”

Standing up from your seat with a sigh, you looked at him one last time. “You’re right. Which is why I’m gonna avoid you from now on.” You walked towards Phoenix and Halo, as Jake shook his head affectionately. From across the garden, Harvard and Coyote were looking at him expectantly. He sent them the middle finger, which made Harvard laugh out loud.

You really tried to keep that promise you made yourself. You tried to keep away from him and not show him just how much he already wormed his way into your heart.

Maybe it would have worked. You would never know though thanks to an unfortunate incident.

Walking in front of the lockers, you heard a loud, harsh voice bouncing off the walls.

It was family day at Top Gun, so the place was full of kids and families, which made you want to run away. You did see Jake with Mia and Noah, waving at the kids as they admired the planes.

You didn’t want to ruin his time with his family, so you didn’t go there.

Maybe you should have. As you listened to the insult his father spewed his way, you realized you had much more in common with Jake than you thought.

You felt bad for standing there and listening, as you debated whether you should leave or go in and make some shit excuse so Jake could leave. You went with the second option.

You opened the door, making sure they heard you. Their voices quietened instantly, as you made your way over to them. Your face was neutral, no emotion showing as you barely glanced at his father.

“I’m sorry to interrupt, but Maverick needs us.”

Jake nodded, walking out with you right behind him. As soon as he was out of the locker room, he slowed down enough so you could walk beside him.

“You heard everything, didn’t you?” he asked, voice quiet as he looked on straight ahead.

You glanced his way, noticing his tense jaw and shoulders. “Yeah.” you admitted quietly. “Wanna talk about it?”

Jake chuckled humourlessly. “What is there to talk about?”

You stopped walking abruptly, hand settling on his arm to stop him. “You’re a great pilot, Jake.” you said with so much conviction and honesty, it knocked the breath out of him.

Jake just kept looking at you, mouth open in shock and eyes unreadable, so many emotions coursing through him.

“You know what would cheer me up?” he asked finally.

You tilted your head, ready to do whatever he asked. “What is it?”

“Come with me and I’ll show you.” He reached his hand out, waiting for you to hold it. You squinted your eyes, looking at him warily. “If that’s another one of your stupid lines, I swear-“

He chuckled lightheartedly, shaking his head. “It’s not, I promise.”

You nodded, putting your hand in his. “Come on then.”

The thing that cheered Jake up was apparently taking you and his niece and nephew to get ice-cream, which you promised them the last time.

The kids were adorable, you had to admit that. And spending time with Jake alone, without any of your friends present wasn’t that terrible either.

It also helped that he looked incredibly hot while acting all fatherly. You hated yourself for even thinking that.

Jake loved seeing you with the kids. It was clear how much you adored them and it didn't help his growing feelings towards you.

After his sister picked up the kids and all of his family left, not before giving you a few not too subtle looks while whispering to each other, Jake took you on a stroll on the beach. You talked about so many things, he made you laugh until your cheeks hurt. He just kept on surprising you.

Even now, hours later, you were still talking about the most absurd things.

“I hate sunflowers.” you said, scrunching your face in disgust.

“What? Why?” Jake asked in a high-pitched voice while laughing.

You shrugged. “I don’t know. I just don’t like them.”

“I think they’re pretty neat.”

“Now I know what flowers I’m gonna put on your grave.”

“Already want to get rid of me?” Jake knocked your shoulder with his and you had to look away from him once you saw just how close he was. The close proximity caused your fingers to brush against each other. You cleared your throat, pulling your hand away and ignoring his question.

But Jake wasn't ready to give up just yet. Not when he had you so close to where he needed you. "Nice night we're having, huh?" he asked, trying to make small talk. He knew you wouldn't get back to the previous teasing and talking his ear off. You just smiled, nodding your head as you avoided looking at him.

Jake sighed. “Can I ask you something?”

You looked at him, interested in what he wanted to know, humming for him to continue.

“Anytime I tried to talk to you before, you told me to fuck off. Not very polite by the way.” he scolded jokingly, making you chuckle. “Why was hearing those things my father said about me the moment you decided that we can be friends?”

You stopped walking abruptly, not really prepared for that question. And definitely not prepared to give an honest answer.

Jake stopped walking too, looking at you quiestioningly.

There were few minutes of silence where you just kept looking at your shoes, pretending they were much more interesting than they really were. “I know what it’s like when your own parents think you’re a disappointment.” you said so quietly, he barely heard you. And maybe that was your intention. Not to be heard.

But he did and he looked at you shocked. How could anyone think you were less than perfect in your own way? You saw his disbelieving look and chuckled. “You think I was born like this?” Cold. Heartless. Empty. Distant. You knew what everyone thought about you behind your back. “I had to protect myself somehow. If I acted cold-“ your voice shook as you continued to talk, “if I acted like a bitch, I knew no one would want to be close to me. Which means that no one could hurt me. I guess knowing that we have similar backgrounds just put things into a different perspective for me."

Jake knew that feeling very well. It was why he never had a serious relationship, why it was hard to let people in and see the real him. It hurt too much when they realized they didn't like what they saw. It hurt even more when they left.

You smiled sadly, thinking back to who you were a long time ago. “Trust me, I was very different before. Maybe if we met back then…” you trailed off, taking in a shaky breath. Jake wanted to know the end of that sentence. He wanted to know if you meant what he thought you meant.

“You’re not a disappointment.” He said with so much conviction in his voice it was hard for you to act unaffected. “Your parents must be crazy if they think that about you.”

Your bottom lip wobbled slightly before you bit down on it, ignoring the tears stinging in your eyes. “Thanks.” Your voice broke a little and you wanted to run away. A part of your brain was screaming at you for showing this vulnerable side to Jake. You couldn't even explaing why you let him see you like this, you just knew there was something about him that made you feel safe. It was too much. “We should go.” you suggested.

This was his chance. Maybe there wouldn't be a better time to ask you out than now. “No.” he said determinedly, looking into your eyes.

“No?” You gulped as Jake stepped closer to you, putting his hand on your cheek. His thumb rubbed circles on your skin as he held your gaze. Your heart was beating out of your chest, something you were sure he could feel. You wanted to stop him, walk away. But your legs were rooted to the ground. You were frozen in place.

Jake's movements were so slow and cautious, giving you time to pull away. You knew in your heart you didn't want to do that.

So when he started to lean closer, you tilted your head and let your lips touch his.

They were soft, moving languidly against yours as he kissed you. Every single coherent thought left your mind, as if there wasn't anything else in the world beside you two. Only you and Jake.

There were no fireworks and no butterflies. What you felt was so much better. Like you were a puzzle and he was the one missing piece you've been searching for so desperately your whole life.

You smiled into the kiss, thinking that if someone told you a few weeks ago you would be so happy to be kissed by him, you would have laughed. You would have never thought he would be the person you would want to give your heart to.

You just hoped Jake wanted the same thing.

The urge to keep kissing him was strong, but the need for oxygen was stronger. You pulled away, leaning your forehead against Jake's as you both panted.

Your eyes were closed still, fearing that if you opened them, the feelings of uncertainity would start to creep in. Jake ran his thumb over your bottom lip, making you take in a shaky breath.

As you slowly opened your eyes, you found him staring at you intently. His gaze was intense and the tension between you could have been cut with a knife.

A look of determination crossed Jake's face and you almost felt sick from how hard your heart hammered against your chest.

"Y/N?" Your name rolled off his tongue, his eyes mirroring the feelings you were trying to bury deep inside. Fear. Concern. Aprehension? You couldn't look away from them. It was the most human you've ever seen him. Today, this whole day showed you who Jake Seresin really was. And you liked it. "One date is all I ask." he said, voice low but soft, and pleading at the same time. You were enthralled by his whole being.

Still, you tried to cling to that last piece of sanity you had left, so you put your hands on his chest, pulling away from him enough to give you a few inches of space.

Your lungs were still burning, but you knew if you stayed like that any longer, you were going to ket him kiss you stupid, until you were stripped of everything that you were before.

"One date is all you get." Your voice was unusually soft, raw. You were scared that the more time you spent with Jake, the less you would recognized yourself, because you kept acting like the girl you were years ago. The one that disappeared, the one you missed and wanted to get back. The one you were scared to become again.

How much more pain can a person take? You didn't want to think back to these moments and feel hatred for the person that made you feel so alive. But what was the guarantee he wouldn't hurt you, like everyone else? Maybe it would be better to leave now, leave like this. When you only had the good memories and nice moments to look back on.

A look of disappointement flashed across Jake's face. He really thought you were going to give him a real shot at this. He tried to not show it, but you still saw it. And you relented. "Unless you convince me you deserve more."

That made his face brighten, an almost smile appearing on his face. He knew there was still a long way to go, but this was a good start. You gave him a chance, now it was time to convince you he was worth it.

"Pick me up tomorrow?" you asked, eyes scanning his face, looking everywhere but at his lips. You wanted to kiss him so bad.

"Yeah." he agreed, looking almost surprised that you said yes. Like he was waiting for you to reject him again.

You smiled, nodding, before kissing his cheek. Your lips lingered there for a few seconds and you swore you heard his breath hitch, before you started walking away from him in the direction of your house.

Jake, finally coming out of his stupor yelled after you. "Wear a dress!"

You shook your head but you couldn't hide the smile on your face or the feeling of happiness coursing through you.

Jake Seresin was making you feel drunk in love.

The Longer That You Stay, The Ice Is Melting (Jake Seresin X Fem!Reader)

It's hard opening yourself up to people. It's like you're handing them a weapon and you're never sure if they're going to use it against you or not. You want to protect yourself from all the hurt and the pain, but you also know that it could potentially cost you your happiness.

It's even harder when underneath all that is a little girl longing, yearning to be loved. When you wish someone would just hold you so you could feel safe in their arms.

And this means there's a war going on inside you, because you can't have both. There is no love without pain.

You tried so hard not to fall. Tried to tell yourself he wasn’t worth getting hurt over. But you felt your walls collapsing the more time you spent with him.

This is exactly why you tried to avoid him all this time. You knew Jake was charming, you knew how easy it would be to fall in love with him if you let yourself.

But the hurt that comes with it, you definitely weren’t ready for.

When you woke up and the first thing you thought about was Jake, you panicked. When you found yourself smiling at his texts, you panicked. When your heart beat louder and your palms felt sweaty anytime he was near you, you were panicking.

Everyone knew Jake wasn’t the relationship type. You didn’t believe he wanted anything more than a quick fuck from you. Of course you chose the best person to fall for.

Jake Seresin was able to crack your tough exterior, doing the impossible in the process: making you fall in love with him.

You needed to get this off your chest, so the first people you went to with this problem were Phoenix and Rooster.

“I’m going to die.” You were walking around in circles in Bradley’s living room for so long, his head was spinning.

Phoenix rolled her eyes with a groan. “You’re not going to die, stop being so dramatic.”

You stopped walking abruptly, turning to face the two people sitting on the couch. “You don’t get it. It feels like I can’t breathe and my chest feels tight.”

“Isn’t that a panic attack?” Rooster spoke up, helpful as always. Why couldn’t they accept that this was the worst thing that could have potentially happened?

You whined, stomping your feet. “This is different! I haven’t been in love with someone in years.” your voice cracked as you talked, tears gathering in your eyes. You didn’t want to cry. “This isn’t easy for me. Especially knowing Jake.”

Bradley sighed, patting the empty space next to him. You sat down, as he wrapped his arm around your shoulder. “Listen, I know that Jake seems like an asshole most of the time. And he is most of the time.” You snorted, not sure if he was trying to help ease your mind or do the opposite and make you worry even more. “But I’ve never seen him try so hard to get someone before.”

You knew how painful it was for Rooster to say something positive about Jake. That was probably why he had an awkward smile on his face. You knew the two men bickered most of the time, so hearing this from Rooster made you feel a little better.

He brushed a strand of hair away from your face, tucking it behind your ear. “I think you should give him a chance.”

You bit your lip, looking at him hopefully. “You think so?”

Bradley nodded, giving you an honest smile. "You're incredible, of course he was bound to fall in love with you."

Your lip trembled as you tried to keep yourself from crying, wanting to tell Bradley how much his words meant to you. That’s when you felt your phone vibrate in your pocket, as you pulled it out to look at who texted you.

“That’s him.” You couldn’t keep the grin off your face, as you read Jake’s text. “He asked me to go somewhere with him.”

You jumped up from the couch, squealing a little, unable to control your emotions. “I have to go get ready, but I love you guys so much and thank you for listening to that.” You winced, thinking back to how dramatic you were just a few minutes ago. “God, I sounded like an idiot.”

Bradley smiled. “Anytime.” You wanted to ask if they didn’t mind that you were leaving so abruptly, but before you could even utter the words, Phoenix was ushering you out the door. “Go.”

When she shut it behind you, she walked back to sit next to Bradley, who leaned his head on her shoulder. “Why did you do that?” she asked, not understanding why Bradley gave you up so easily. Not like he could call dibs on you because he liked you sooner, but she definitely didn’t think he would be the one to encourage you to run into Jake’s arms, without even telling you that he likes you. She thought it was pretty cowardly of him.

Bradley played with the silver bracelet you gave him for his birthday. It had his callsign carved into the metal, the other side having yours. It was a little joke, both of you said you needed a frienship bracelet to remind you of the other when you were deployed. Not that he needed anything to remind him of you, you were always on his mind. But he liked the bracelet. You said it was a little gift to remind him that he had somewhere to belong.

He smiled at the memory, even though his heart never ached so bad before. “If Jake hurts her, I will kill him myself. But she’s in love with him, you heard her.” Nataha knew he was on the verge of crying, she could hear it in his voice. “I want her to be happy.” he said quietly, almost in a hushed whisper. If he said those words any louder, there would be no stopping the tears gathering in his eyes.

To Bradley's surprise, Nat was affected just as much. "I don't think anyone cared about her or loved her as much as you do. You just gave her up because you don't want to stand in the way of her happiness." Natasha said, choked up. She hated herself for not giving you signs that Bradley was in love with you. But it didn't matter anymore. She just wanted both of her best friends happy. "You're a good person, Bradley. And the most amazing friend."

“Stop, you’re going to make me cry.” he said as the tears rolled down his cheeks, both of them laughing even in their despair.

You on the other hand, were having the time of your life.

Jake took you the art museum, a small, teasing smile on his lips as you told him about all of the paintings. He loved listening to your voice, something he realized in the last two days.

Your hand was clasped in his and he had to stop himself from pulling you into the bathroom or back to his car so he could kiss you senseless.

But he could wait. It was all worth it when he saw you practically glowing, smiling more than he saw you ever before. And to know that he was the cause of your happiness warmed him on the inside.

As the night drew to a close, you were both sitting on the hood of Jake's car, talking and laughing. His arm was wrapped around your shoulders, piulling you into his side. Your head was placed on his chest a you listened to his steady heartbeat.

"I'm glad I gave you a chance." you said quietly, tracing patterns on his chest. Jake's gaze was on you, watching you. He didn't say anything, his throat clogged up with all the words he wanted to say, all the secrets he wanted to share. Instead, he kissed the top of your head, squeezing your body closer to his. You smiled, closing your eyes to savour this feeling. You wanted to stay in this moment forever.

"We should go." Jake said, voice distant and unemotional. The way he changed in mere seconds almost gave you whiplash. You pulled away from him, scared to look at his face and see something you wouldn't like. Your thoughts were racing, your heart beat faster as you nervously played with your fingers.

It was almost funny how quickly something so insignificant as a small change in someones voice could turn you, from a cold and heartless person into this unsure, anxious one. It would have been funny, if you hadn't been panicking the whole ride to your place if you said something wrong. If you fucked it all up somehow. If you were too much. If you scared him away because you came on too strong.

Or maybe you just weren't good enough, he decided that he didn't want you, you weren't what he hoped you would be. This was why you kept your distance. This was why you didn't want to give in. You knew it was a wrong idea. You shouldn't have come.

"Hey." You were pulled out of your thoughts by Jake's gentle voice and his hand on your chin.

You looked at him and he must have seen the terrified look on your face, because without a second thought he unfastened his seatbelt and reached over to pull you into a hug. You wrapped your arms around him, taking in his scent and enojoying the way his body fit perfectly against yours. It was uncomfortable, both of you were twisted and there was the console betweeen you, but it helped ease you mind just a little.

Jake pulled away a little, enough to look at your face, while still being able to hold you in his arms. "I really liked spending time with you." he said, trying to reassure you. You nodded, giving him a small smile that was anything but honest.

You tried to pull away from him and open the door, but his hand stopped you, shutting the door close again.

You sat there, unsure what he expected from you. You were starting to get angry from the mixed signals and the games.

He put his hand under your chin again, coaxing you to look at him.

He took in a shallow, shaky breath, opening his mouth to say so something. In the end he decided against it, and pulled your face closer to his, connecting your lips with his.

Your body relaxed, sagging against his as he continued kissing you slowly, tentatively. Like he didn't want to cross the line, an imaginary barrier he put there.

You put a hand on his shoulder, needing to feel him, to feel his body against yours, know that he was there, that he wanted you just as much.

You got the confirmation when he deepened the kiss, his tongue breaching past your lips, caressing your own tongue. It was wet and passionate and you were turning desperate with every passing second.

You were halfway sitting on his lap, your hands exploring his body over his clothes, touching and grasping everywhere. Jake wasn't doing any better. He was panting, revelling in the sounds you were making, the little moans and whimpers you let out, the whines as you begged for more and more and more.

You needed everything, needed all of him.

He pulled away, looking at you so intensely, the butterflies in your stomach started going berserk, flapping their wings against your ribcage, trying to get out.

"Want to come in?" You didn't even register opening your mouth or saying those words. It was like your body was on autopilot, your brain far too occupied with imagining Jake above you, as he thrusted into you and made you lose your mind, to control your actions.

Jake nodded, pulling you all the way into his lap and making you squeal, before he was opening the door and taking you into your house.

His mouth was on yours, as he blindly walked to your door. "Keys?" he asked between kisses. His hands were under your thighs, supporting you, your dress bunching up thanks to the position you were in.

Jake groaned as he felt your naked thighs, before you reached into the pocket of your jacket and thrusted the keys into his palm.

He pushed your back againt the door, his mouth not leaving yours as he tried to get the key into the lock, with no luck. You were getting impatient, moving your hips in circles to gain some friction. Jake groaned, squeezing your ass in a warning way.

When you continued doing it, he growled into your ear. "If you don't want me to fuck you right here where all your neighbours can see, stop."

You moaned, throwing your head back and essentially banging it against the wooden door, when Jake finally unlocked the door.

You looked for the light switch with one hand, your other tangled in his hair as he kissed down your neck.

He sat you down on the floor, both of you kicking off your shoes as you threw off your jackets, before Jake was picking you up again and throwing you over his shoulder, his palm slapping your ass. You laughed, a deep sound that made your belly ache, as he carried you over to your sofa.

"Since you like dry humping me so much, the only way you're getting off tonight is on my thigh." His voice was low and deep, and raw from your make out session. It sounded like he was in pain with how much he had to hold back and not strip you naked that moment.

He sat down, sitting you on his thigh, your legs on either side of his. You whined, moving against him. Your hands were on his chest, while his were on your hips, squeezing your curves and helping you move.

"Jake." you moaned his name, rubbing yourself against the denim jeans, creating a sweet friction that was enough to drive you crazy but not enough to satisfy you the way you needed, the way you craved.

"Be a good girl for me and stop whining." he demanded, sending shivers all over your body.

You wanted to be his good girl. So you bit your lip, closing your eyes as you tried to chase that euphoric feeling.

It was Jake who let out sounds now. He was moaning as he looked at you, pleasure written all over your face. Your dress bunched up enough for him to see your panties, the wet patch on them undeniable.

His hands moved from your hips down to your ass, squeezing and kneading the soft flesh.

You were panting, your forehead leant on his shoulder, your nails buried into his biceps.

The pleasure he felt just from having you use him like this outweighed the pain.

"That's a good girl." he praised, pulling a loud whimper from you. Jake smirked, his lips pressed into your neck.

Your noises got louder and more frequent, your movements becoming erratic. Jake's thumb rubbed circles on your clit through your panties, your body jolting before you felt yourself reach your high, letting out a loud moan.

Jake swore it was the prettiest sight he's ever seen. It was almost enough to have him cumming in his pants and he had to concentrate and fight from all his willpower in order not to. He wasn't done with you yet.

Jake kissed all over your face as you came down from your high. You felt embarassed when you saw the wet patch on his jeans but he cut you off before you could apologize.

"I lied." he admitted, and your heart fell. You looked at him questioningly, noticing his smirk. "Hope you're ready for another orgasm."

You grinned, kissing his lips as he stood up to take you to your bedroom. You were in for a long night.

The Longer That You Stay, The Ice Is Melting (Jake Seresin X Fem!Reader)

Jake walked onto base the next day with a spring in his step and a smile on his face. The sun was shining on him, he could still feel the taste of you in his mouth and he had another night of drinking and fun to look forward to. Life was good.

Everyone eyed him suspiciously when they noticed how happy and carefree he looked. Bob gave Phoenix a confused look when he started whistling to himself, but she just shrugged

Hangman grinned at them, before walking over to Fritz, Coyote, Yale and Harvard, who were all standing a bit farther away, wanting to hear all the details.

Jake took off his sunglasses, loving the way all four of them kept his attention on him. It was Harvard who broke the silence with an exasperated whine. “Come on!”

Jake’s grin just got larger, if that was even possible. How could his friends ever doubted him? "Pay up." he said triumphantly.

"No fucking way." Yale, Fritz and Harvard were all in disbelief.

Coyote held up his palm, high-fiving his best friend. “Good one!”

"Did she actually let you fuck her?" asked Harvard, reaching for the 100$ that was promised to Jake. He handed it to him bitterly, shaking his head. He really believed you wouldn’t fall for his charm.

"Was she good?" asked Javy, patting his friend on the back with a proud grin.

Jake closed his eyes for a moment thinking about how good you felt, humming. "She was. Not gonna lie, might even miss her."

Because that's how it all started. The bet they made two months ago.

-

“Come on, man. Look at us." Jake motioned to himself and Javy. "Who in their right mind would say no?” he asked in utter disbelief.

Harvard shook his head with a chuckle. “Everyone in their right mind would say no.”

Jake disagreed. “Every single person in this bar would fall to their knees if we wanted it."

“I can count at least a few that wouldn’t.” Fritz interjected, making Jake scoff.

“Want me to go and make Phoenix fall in love with me?" he asked with a smirk. “Or Rooster?”

Fritz chuckled, shaking his head. “Nah, I don’t think they’re the most challenging people out here. I think there’s someone else that wouldn’t even touch you with a ten foot pole.”

“Who?” Jake asked, intrigued.

Fitz licked his lips, looking at Jake with the biggest shit eating grin ever. “Viper.”

Jake's face turned into a grimace as soon as he heard your callsign. The callsign you got because you were known not to take anyone's shit. You had a few people you let get close to you, others you kept at a safe distance. You were badass in the air and on the ground. Jake was more often than not at the receiving end of your insults when he did some dumb shit up there and you really chewed his ass out.

His friends didn't use your callsign as much as the nickname they gave you once you were called back to Top Gun- Ice Queen. You were cold and calculated, and attacked before anyone could attack you.

Your callsign fit you perfectly. You really were venomous. One bite and he would be dead.

He knew you didn't like him at all because of how he acted.

Fritz sighed. “I know, I know. She’s a tough one. I don’t think you could win her over.”

He didn't think. It was just a brief second of stupidity and his stupid mouth that he couldn't keep shut. The words were just rolling out of his mouth. “How much do you want to bet that I could?”

He enjoyed seeing the look of disbelief on their faces. “Are you sure you want to do that?”

“Scared you might lose?” he challenged.

Fritz thought about it for a second before shrugging. “If you’re so sure of yourself.”

His chest was puffed out with pride, a smug smirk on his face. He knew he could do this. “I am.”

Yale shook his head. “I’m with Fritz on this one. No way in hell are you getting her.”

“I’m gonna stand with my best friend.“ Javy patted Jake on his back in solidarity.

“You trust him that much?”

“Hey, I’ve seen him at work. He’s good at what he does.” Javy defended. Thruthfully, he wasn't all that convinced Jake's charm would work on you.

Harvard nodded. He would enjoy seeing Hangman's face after losing the bet and getting an ego-check from you. “50$ from each of us.”

“A bit cheap, isn’t it?”

Harvard sighed. “Fine. 100$. If you can convince her to get with you until my birthday you can have it.”

Jake frowned. “That’s in two months.”

“It will take some time to charm her, I’m just trying to make it fair.”

“Okay.” he agreed, reaching out his hand so they could shake on it. “No one else can know about this.”

Harvard grinned. “Scared they will tease you once she chews your ass out?”

“I will win.” said Jake confidently.

“Keep telling yourself. Maybe it will come true.” Fritz teased.

-

"You better be fucking joking, Seresin." He heard the growl coming from behind him, turning to see Bradley standing there, raging.

Jake gulped, knowing this was going to get ugly real quick.

Bradley was extremely fond of you, everyone knew that. He was one of the only people around you really trusted.

Jake knew he fucked up.

Looking around to make sure you weren't close by, he stepped closer to Bradley, putting a hand on his shoulder to calm him down. "Whatever you heard, it's not what you think it is."

Bradley shook his hand off, backing away with an angry stare. "So you didn't have a bet going around?"

"That's-"

"You sleep with people for money now, Seresin?" he asked angrily. "A 100$? Is that all she was worth to you?"

Jake doubted that telling Bradley he was actually getting 300$ was going to help his situation.

"No, listen-"

"Make her listen." Bradley said defiantly. "You're going to hurt her once she finds out, so stop explaining to me. Go and tell her. It's on her to forgive you, not me."

Jake opened his mouth to protest, but nodded in the end. What he didn't expect was for Bradley to pull him over to you and Natasha.

You smiled at him and Jake swore he heard his heart break in half. You didn't deserve this.

"Jake has something to tell you." said Bradley, clapping him on the back harshly. "Go on then." he smiled at Jake, encouraging him to talk. But the way he was looking at him made everyone aware that he wasn't happy at all. Jake looked at you again, unable to open his mouth and say what he had done. How could he have done that to you? Bradley snorted. "Now you've got nothing to say?"

"What's going on?" you asked finally, looking between the two men. Your hands started to feel clammy and sweaty and you knew something bad happened.

"Tell her what you did." Bradley whispered angrily to Jake. "Tell her what a disgusting piece of shit you are."

Jake squeezed his eyes shut, taking in a shaky breath before he said those words out loud. "I asked you out because of a bet."

You froze, your heart hammering so hard you could hear it in your ears. You felt sick. "I-I don't understand." your voice shook, sounding like you were on the verge of crying. You didn't even notice the tears before they started blurring your vision.

Bradley scoffed, turning his anger on you. "You actually think he cared about you? It's Jake we're talking about here."

Jake fucking you over you could take. Somehow. But Bradley being angry at you and blaming you for something out of your control you couldn't. That hurt more.

He saw the way your face fell even harder and there was no stopping the tears now. His face softened instantly, but you were already walking away from him before he could apologize.

"You didn't have to be so harsh." Natasha reprimanded, angry at both men for hurting you unnecessarily.

"Fuck, I know." Bradley ran a hand through his hair, swearing. "Shit.

Every single cell in your body was screaming for you to run. So that's what you did. You ran and Jake ran after you. He caught your arm, pulling you back, your back connecting with his chest. You turned to look at him with so much anger in your eyes it scared him. “You really are a heartless bastard, huh?!” you yelled, your voice brittle and high-pitched, making your own years hurt. “You knew-“ your voice broke, a lump that formed in your throat getting in the way. “You knew why I’m like this. You were the only person I told about it. And you still did this.” you cried, half of you hoping he would take you into his arms and tell you this was all just a big misunderstanding, the other half wanting him to disappear from your life altogether.

“Y/N, listen. I’m so sorry. I don’t know why I continued with the bet, because I couldn’t care about it less, once I got to know you.” he tried to convince you desperately. He didn't mean to hurt you. If he could take it all back, he would.

“I trusted you.” you accused.

Jake's eyes softened, feeling like he was being punched in the gut over and over again. You trusted him. “I’m so sorry, sweetheart.”

“Don’t call me that.” you shook your head. “Don’t you fucking dare call me that and stand there like you didn’t know what you were doing. You wanted to win a stupid fucking bet for what exactly? To stroke your own ego?” You were right and he knew it. He made the bet not caring that he was going to hurt you. It was ironic, really, because out of the two of you, he was the heartless one. “God, and I stupid thought that-“ A sob left your lips as you realized just how naïve you were. Walking into Seresin's trap like that. He didn't even have to try that hard and that only angered you and hurt more.

“Everything I told you, I meant it.” Jake took your hand in his, trying to reason with you, make you see that it wasn't all a lie. “I love you.”

You shook your head furiously. “No. You don’t get to say that now.”

You walked away after that, feeling like there was nothing left to say, and Jake let you.

Bradley found you sitting in your car, tears streaming down your face and sobs wrecking your body.

It was a sight he never wanted to see. He never wanted for you to hurt. He felt a terrible sense of guilt knowing that he encouraged you to give Jake a chance. He should have known better.

Bradley opened the door on your side, crouching down beside you. He took your hand in his, holding it tightly. "I'm sorry."

"No, you're right."

"I'm not." he shook his head, angry at himself for telling you something so hurtful. He brushed away your tears with his fingers, making you look at him. "You're so amazing and sweet and beautiful. He didn't deserve you." You smiled even through your tears, thankful for having Bradley by your side. You should have fallen in love with him instead, he wouldn't hurt you like that. If only it was that easy to choose. "I think it's punishment enough that he knows what an amazing woman he just lost."

You let out another sob, pulling Bradley up from his position and opening your arms so he could hug you. You buried your face into his chest, his arms wrapping around you to hold you tightly against him as he quietly let you cry until you exhausted yourself.

He stayed with you there, his legs aching and feeling numb from being in the same position, his back hurting as had to slightly lean in, but he didn't care. He just wanted to hold you and bring you comfort.

The Longer That You Stay, The Ice Is Melting (Jake Seresin X Fem!Reader)

Hours later, Jake debated in his head whether it was a good idea to knock on your door, but the knowledge that you hated him didn’t let him sleep. He knew it was his fault, he didn’t have anyone else to blame but himself for being a stupid idiot.

He also knew you’d probably never forgive him. Hell, he was lucky you didn’t knock his teeth out, which he definitely would’ve deserved. It would’ve been so much better if you got mad at him, but when he saw you cry and sob because he hurt you so bad, he wanted to beat himself up.

When Phoenix opened the door, anger written all over her face as soon as she saw him standing there, he regretted every decision he made that lead him to this moment.

“Before you beat the shit out of me…” he started, putting his hands up in defence.

Nat scoffed, shaking her head furiously. “The audacity to come here after what you’ve done.” Her voice was harsh and raw. If it wasn't so late, she would have definitely started screaming at him from the top of her lungs.

He would have deserved it, he knew that. That and more. He nodded his head, avoiding her eyes. “I know.”

“Then why the fuck are you here, Hangman?” she demanded, crossing her arms in front of her.

Jake took in a deep breath, gathering all of his courage to look at Natasha, while hoping she would see the honesty in his eyes. “Let me talk to her. Please.”

“No way.” She shook her head defiantly.

“I need to tell her how sorry I am.”

“You already did that. She doesn’t want to see you or talk to you.” Everything that needed to be said was said and she was ready to close the door in his face. But she relented in the last minute, reaching for the chocolates. “But I will take these, thanks.”

The door shut behind her with a loud bang as Jake hung his head low. He stood there for a few more minutes, before giving up and leaving.

As soon as he was sitting in his car, he banged his fist against the wheel in anger, cursing. "Fuck!"

Inside, Natasha brought you the chocolates, giving you a sympathetic smile. “Are you okay?”

“I will be. It’s not like this is the worst thing I’ve been through.” You shrugged nonchalantly. Your heart was already broken into pieces, long before you met Jake.

You would ge through this like you got through everything else.

Don’t show any emotions, don’t let him know how much it hurts, and this will be all over soon.

The Longer That You Stay, The Ice Is Melting (Jake Seresin X Fem!Reader)

Jake didn't honour his life enough. That was the realization you have come to after he tried to get you alone so he could talk to you for the fourth time that day.

You were fed up and done with him.

If looks could kill, he would drop dead the second he looked in your direction, before running up to stop you in your tracks.

“Can we talk?” His was voice was pleading and rough, almost like he's been crying. And you really hoped he was. Looking at him, you saw something on his face that maybe resembled guilt. What a shame that you didn't care anymore.

You straightened out, as you continued to walk. If he wanted to tell you something, he needed to keep up with you. “What do you want to talk about, Lieutenant?”

Your voice was emotionless, cold and hard. It made Jake wince. His heart was breaking more with each second, as the realization that you would never forgive him slowly started to sink in.

He reached for your hand, stopping your hurried steps. You looked at him, shocked, feeling your heart in your throat. His eyes were boring into yours and you knew if you kept looking into them you would jump straight into his arms and forgive him. “Don’t do that.” he begged.

“Don’t do what?”

“Don’t act like we’re-“ his voice broke, his breath shaking, and it wouls be a lie to say it didn't affect you, “like we’re nothing.”

“We are nothing.” you said, pulling your arm out of his hold. “There is nothing and never will be anything between us. I made a mistake and I regret letting you in.”

A look of hurt flashed across his face, his eyes becoming glossy. “I love you.”

“That’s nice.” You smiled, but there was no happiness behind it. “But I don’t think I can trust you anymore." you said, walking away from him.

Jake looked as you walked away, a strong feeling of hate towards himself engulfing his whole being.

The best person that came into his life just walked away from him and he wasn't sure if he could ever get you back.

August 2026

“Deep breathes, darlin’,” his hands were smooth against her shoulders, instantly calming her nerves. Y/n took a deep inhale, nodding as she slowly let the air leave her lips. Jake beamed at her, “This ain’t the first time you’ve been on stage. You got this.”

“I know, but performing on live television for millions of people is different than a few thousand in a venue,” she reminded him, feeling the anxiety return causing her to close her eyes. “It’s been six years since my last VMA performance, Jake. Also,” she nervously laughs, “This is the Vanguard award they’re giving me—I’m, quite literally, shitting my pants. I want this to be amazing.” To be fair the reason for her not being invited back to the VMAs was a mini break from music she went on after they got married in 2021. The birth of their children was another factor so it wasn’t until late 2025 that Y/n had released the music she’d been working on.

The break was much needed, but she was missing the stage, the touring, the fans. It was what kept her going and made her career worth it. Music was her life, but so was her family which is why she took so long to release an album. Now here she was years later about to step foot on the VMA stage for the first time in six years. Another thing that made it worthwhile was she was being honored with the MTV Video Vanguard Award. Leading up news outlets were covering her return and on the red carpet reporters were eager to know what Y/n was cooking up.

“And it will be,” he told her, cupping her face in his hands, careful not to mess up the gemstones and glitter around her eyes. She could feel the cool metal of his wedding band against her skin. “You are one of the best vocalists of our generation—the High Note Princess. One of the best stage performers of all time—it’s gonna be an amazing show. You’ve been working so hard for months,” he gives a comforting squeeze to her shoulders. “So just breathe with me and then you’ll go out there and sing your pretty little heart out. And it’s gonna be the best performance of the night.”

As she mentally prepared while waiting for the stage manager, Y/n leaned more into Jake’s arms and let her mind wander. Memories started to appear, reeling back to when her career kicked off all the way to when she met her husband and finally to the present day.

February 2008

Like any aspiring star, Y/n L/n made the rash decision to quit college and move to Los Angeles in hopes of achieving her goal of becoming a singer. Hollywood was calling her name, so she spent months applying to jobs in the area before finding a small studio apartment and packed up her little Honda and set sail for the city where dreams are made. Time would be the make or break factor if she stayed or retreated back home with her tail between her legs.

One year.

That was her deadline. One year to get a job at a label, get discovered, or possibly find something worth renewing her lease. Working as a singer at a jazz bar could possibly have one of the options come true. Again, it would take time before something happened.

Y/n wasn’t the only singer at the club. Another girl was on stage Monday’s, Wednesday’s, and Saturday’s whereas Y/n was booked Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, and Friday’s. The club was closed Sunday’s and the nights Y/n didn’t sing she was a server or bartender. The pay was good for the most part with her tips racking in more income than the biweekly check for singing and serving. Sometimes she’d get compliments from patrons, especially the older crowd saying, “You have such a unique voice—the way you have control and range makes me think you should be on the radio and not some little jazz club like this. Your talent shouldn’t be wasted, dear.”

The words and support always boosted Y/n’s confidence. Truly did it make her feel she could make it big. Actually break through into the industry. But that takes time and sometimes the opportunity arises when one least expects it.

Maybe she could audition for American Idol. Maybe she could upload videos on that new website YouTube. Maybe she could be bold and send some demos to labels, praying it would land on someone’s desk.

Or, someone important from said label would wander into the club.

That idea seemed like a far stretch. But just three months shy of Y/n’s deadlines she was approached by a gentleman after she finished her number one Friday night. A business card in his hand, he said, “Give me a call Monday morning, I’d like to set up a meeting to talk with you about your potential. Bring some demos if you have any.”

A notebook of songs in her hand and a CD of demos she spent the whole weekend working on, Y/n left Capitol Records that morning with a copy of her contract in hand and the promise of bringing forth the best music of her life. There were tears shed as she relayed the exciting news to her family back home. Her coworkers whom she adored threw her a party at the club in celebration that night. She wouldn’t leave the club just yet. Just because she had signed didn’t mean she would make it big in the long run. No, she decided to stay at the club until she at least was at the level where she could financially afford to.

The first time Y/n heard herself on the radio she broke into tears. It happened unexpectedly too. After packing up her car with two weeks worth of groceries that cost her entire paycheck Y/n switched the the radio to the pop station and was singing along to the tunes when she heard the beginning chords to her song, ‘Teenage Dream.’ Cars honked around after she slammed the brakes and abruptly pulled to the side of the road, eyes wide with her hands covering her mouth.

“You think I’m pretty without any makeup on. You think I’m funny when I tell the punchline wrong. I know you get me, so I let my walls come down, down.”

Y/n literally changed the channel just to change it back to make sure she wasn’t dreaming. That it was actually her song playing.

“Before you met, I was alright, but things were kinda heavy. You brought me to life, now every February, you’ll be Valentine. Valentine.”

“Let’s go all the way tonight. No regrets, just love. We can dance, until we die. You and I, will be young forever.”

“Oh my God!!!” She got out of her car just to scream while jumping up & down. People on the sidewalk were looking at her crazy but she didn’t care. Not when her own song was blasting from her car on the radio.

“You make me, feel like I’m living a Teenage Dream. The way you turn me on, I can’t sleep. Let's run away and don’t ever look back. Don’t ever look back.”

Y/n’s entire life took a 180 after that very day. Her talent agent and manager from Capital Records were calling her saying she was on the Billboard Hot 100. They were planning on releasing her second single earlier than planned in order to push up the release of her album. Every radio station was playing ‘Teenage Dream,’. There were days Y/n would be in a store and would hear in playing, causing her to break out in a grin.

Before long Y/n was getting calls left in right with her manager and publicist securing television appearances and interviews. Her second single ‘Firework’ was an instant hit, becoming a gold certified record in just a few weeks. People auditioning for X-Factor and American Idol were covering it. Videos being posted to YouTube. Then Y/n released ‘Last Friday Night,’, becoming a popular song for teenagers and young adults. The full album shot her off into stardom.

“SNL?” She dropped her muffin, staring wide eyed at her manager. “SNL wants me to perform?”

“I got Lorne Micheals on the phone—I literally have him on hold—and he’s awaiting your answer.”

“Tell him my answer is ‘fuck yeah!’”

“I’ll tell him…you said yes.”

The appearance on SNL only increased Y/n’s popularity. Following it was invitations to the Kids & Teen Choice Awards, the Billboard Music Awards and the MTV VMAS, in which she won Best New Artist at all shows and Song of The Summer at the TCA’s. The first time she won she was a stuttering mess, thanking the fans and people who voted for her and her family, managers, execs at Capitol Records all while trying not to cry on live television.

Then the 2009 Grammys happened. And she won Best Pop Album and Record of The Year for ‘Last Friday Night’. Her hands shook as she accepted the award from none other than Usher, trying not to fangirl as she approached the microphone. She was never gonna get used to meeting the people she admired.

“O-oh wow,” she stuttered over the screams, feeling the cool surface of the award in her hand. A Grammy. She was a Grammy Award winning recording artist. “This is the greatest honor I’ve ever received—bigger than when I graduated with high school honors,” she laughed nervously, causing people in the crowd to smile at her. “Huge thank you to the Recording Academy for this award. It’s an honor to be part of a group with so many artists I admire—some of whom I’ve listened to for years a-and I can’t believe I have the privilege of being in your presence. I-I wanna take a moment to thank everyone at Capitol Records, my managers Raven and Paul. To everyone who helped me on this album who put their heart and soul into it—this award is not just mine it’s yours. To my family watching at home, I know you’re all losing your minds in front of the tv,” she grinned at the laughs around her, “I love you all so so much and thank you for your support—helping me get to where I am. I’m sorry if I forgot anyone else—t-there telling me to wrap up—b-but thank you—thank you so much for this, I’m so blessed and honored—I can’t even put it into words. Thank you!”

All of 2009-2010 was dedicated to her second album. Y/n was in the studio, writing songs on napkins when she was out with friends, mentally hearing the tunes in her head. She presented and performed at award shows and she went on tour. The goal was to have the songs ready and written by the time the tour ended. Luckily she achieved that goal with at least twenty potential for an album. Anytime Y/n found inspiration she made sure to write it down as quickly as possible.

Now with two Grammys under her name, one of which was for her debut album, the pressure was on.

“This is totally different from what you’ve been doing,” her producer said to her after reading the songs.

“I know, that’s the whole point,” she gave a pointed look, “I don’t want everything to be or sound the same. This is gonna have a different sound than what we did last year. Trust me it’s gonna be big.”

Might as well call her psychic cause that’s exactly what she was.

“It’s been a great week for popstar Y/n L/n, her recent single ‘Summertime Sadness,’ has shot to the top spot of this week’s Billboard Hot 100. A new sound that’s more mellow than her previous work, it’s been well received by fans and critics. L/n is finishing up the American leg of her world tour and is set to release her second studio album in the fall. Just two years ago L/n became an international star after winning two Grammys for her debut album and appearing on television such as Saturday Night Live, Ellen Degeneres, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. With her unique voice and style she’s been viewed as the next pop diva, joining that of Madonna, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga.”

‘Video Games’ was released when the tour concluded and it became her best single to date. The music video was played on MTV early in the mornings and predicted to be nominated for every award one could think of. It was that single combined with the critical acclaim from her album in 2011 that had Baz Luhrmann calling Y/n to write a song for his upcoming 2013 movie ‘The Great Gatsby.’

“And the Oscar goes to….” Y/n’s hand clutched her manager’s, keeping a calm face since the camera was panned on her and the other nominees. In Halle Berry’s hand was the envelope with the winner of the 2014 Oscar for ‘Best Original Song.’ Heart pumping out of her chest, she barely registered her song and name leaving the actress's lips. “Young & Beautiful,’ by Y/n L/n.”

Baz jumped from his seat, as did her manager and producer, the latter of whom she was sharing the Oscar with. A hand flew to her mouth, feeling her arm tugged as they lifted her from her seat while the theater erupted in applause. It felt like she was floating when she approached the stairs, taking the arm of her producer when he offered her help.

“Congratulations,” Halle said, opening her arms for a congratulatory hug before handing the gold statue to the singer. Y/n let out a mix of a sob and laugh as she replied, “T-thank you.”

Another statue was presented to her producer, Y/n waiting for the applause to end until giving her speech.

“O-oh my God, I just met Halle Berry,” there were some chuckles, the singer pausing to hold a hand to her thumping heart while the other clutched the Oscar. “I-I don’t know how to start. First, thank you to the Academy foremost—it’s an honor to be receiving this recognition. Shout out to the other nominees and their incredible work—you all are amazing and we’re so lucky to be almost you all. We all have one major thing in common, and that’s music. Music and movies bring people together—it’s a universal language that we get to be a part of and I am so grateful everyday for being a part of it. Thank you to Baz for allowing us this opportunity—it was so fun working on this song for you and your spectacular film. This Oscar is for you, Baz,” she saw the director blow a kiss from his seat. “Thank you to my producer, Tim—who’s standing right next to me. The magic behind Young & Beautiful, Tim you are a genius and I love you so much. Lastly, to my family back home—ah!” She waved the trophy like a little kid, “Look! I love you all so so much—thank you and I can’t wait to celebrate with you when I come home. Thank you everyone!”

Each year came with more success. The rest of 2014 going all the way to 2016 was nonstop energy. She was working day and night, touring, performing on talk shows, collaborating with other artists—like Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, The Weekend, & Justin Bieber—and dabbling in acting jobs. Y/n secured roles in films like The Greatest Showman, The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials & Death Cure, & The Shape of Water. Some television roles included MTV’s Teen Wolf, American Horror Story and guest appearances on Criminal Minds, Greys Anatomy, and Doctor Who. Her role on AHS garnered her an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. After the award show her manager told her with a wink, “All you need is a Tony and you’re part of the EGOT club.”

EGOT. The ‘grand slam’ in show business. Where only more than a dozen people have achieved the status in which they have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. The biggest awards in television, music, film, and theater.

After she heard that….well you could say Y/n was on a mission.

She continued to release music while pursuing acting. She leased her third and fourth studio albums in the span of eight months—a rare sighting for an artist. Both broke records in their own right. ‘Break Free,’ was playing in every club and ‘Imagine’ was used in Riverdale. She won the Grammy for best Pop album once again and performed ‘Imagine’ at the show. The second it was revealed she got the role of Christine in Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera, the buzz was already on if she would achieve EGOT status if she was nominated for the Tony.

The show opened in early 2017, selling out at a rapid rate with people coming from all over the country solely to watch Y/n perform. She already showed the world she was a brilliant singer and actress, now it was time to combine the two.

Never did she think she’d meet the love of her life at a show.

Jake Seresin wasn’t much of a musical man, but his sister and nieces were so he sucked it up and attended with them. Now Jake wasn’t living under a rock, he damn well knew who Y/n L/n was and frankly the man was a fan. A lot of his exes were fans of the popstar so he was quite familiar with her music and even enjoyed her acting. So of course he was more keen to the idea of going to a Broadway show if it meant he got to see her perform live.

What he didn’t expect was to—literally—run into her on his way back to the hotel. After telling his sister he’d pick food up since her daughters were too tired to go to a restaurant, Jake took a shortcut which happened to be the alley between the show venue. The bag in his hand dropped, the pilot falling to his ass when the door suddenly opened and hit smack in the face.

“Oh my God, I’m so sorry!” A voice shouted followed by a gasp. “Are you okay, sir? ‘Please don’t have blood-please don’t have blood.’

“I’m fine,” he moaned, shaking his head a bit and feeling for any sign of a wound. Thankfully he found none. “It’s alright, ma’am.”

“Here let me,” she helped him up, Jake stumbling a bit and apologizing when he bumped into her. “Are you sure you’re okay? Do you need me to call an ambulance in case you have a concussion?”

“No, no,” he insisted, finally looking up which only resulted in him freezing. The woman he watched on stage not even an hour ago was standing in front of him. “Oh wow.”

Y/n was frozen too, for he was the most attractive man she’d ever laid eyes on. The glow from the street light shined down on him, illuminating his green eyes and blonde hair. His bone structure was what most Hollywood heartthrobs would die for. Come to think of it he could literally pass as a young James Dean.

“H-hi,” she smiled, feeling a bit flustered all of a sudden. It didn’t help that he was still holding onto her shoulders, and she was clutching his forearms.

“Hi.” Gosh even his voice was attractive. A southern accent could be made out with the simple word.

“I’m so sorry for not looking before pushing the door out like that. I—,” Y/n cut herself off when she spotted the discarded bag of what appeared to be food. Some of it spilled out causing guilt to fill her, “Oh gosh, I’m so sorry about your food.” Stepping away she reached into her bag to pull out her wallet. “How much was—.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Jake says, but the singer shakes her head.

“No I insist,” she takes out a random amount of bills which was likely triple what he had actually paid but she didn’t care. She extended her hand out with the cash, “I rammed a door into you and made you drop your food. Please let me make it up—otherwise I’m gonna have to drag you to the place you got it from and replace it myself.”

Jake couldn’t help but smile, taking the cash and examining it before only keeping the amount he had originally paid. “No need to give me more than what it was worth. Here,” he hands back the extra, making her frown but she takes it regardless. Her eyebrows then raise when he goes, “But you could make it up to me in another way?”

Tilting her head, she can’t help but say, “How so?”

“By having a drink with me. If you’re available.”

So that’s how Y/n L/n met her soulmate. By hitting him face first with a door. He literally fell for her if one thought about it—pun intended.

What made it even better was Broadway not only gifted her future husband, but her status as an EGOT winner.

“Last night was a record breaking night for popstar Y/n L/n. The 30-year-old singer and actress has become one of just over a dozen to join the prestigious EGOT Club after winning the Tony for her Leading Actress in a Musical for her role of Christine in Broadway’s Phantom Of The Opera. L/n won the Grammy for Best Pop Album and Record of The Year in 2009 followed by the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2014 for The Great Gatsby. She then went on to appear in several television series including the popular horror series American Horror Story in which she won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. It was rumored L/n would venture into Broadway to possibly add a Tony to her collection of numerous awards, confirming this in mid-2016 when the cast for the 2017 run of Andrew Webber’s Phantom Of The Opera was released. Classically trained as a child, the popstar showed she can belt a lyric and hold a tune. It was a spectacular night for Y/n L/n, receiving a standing ovation when her name was called for the award and dedicating the Tony to her family, friends, cast members, and managers who’ve been with her since her debut in the music industry almost a decade ago. She is one of the youngest stars to ever achieve EGOT status and the fastest ever in a career.”

Many many songs were inspired by her relationship with Jake. Her entire album released a year after they got together was basically a love letter to him. ‘Love Song’ was regarded as her most beautiful record to date, a source for many fan-made videos for their favorite fictional characters and features in movie soundtracks. ‘Love Me Harder,’ & ‘34+35’ had fans go crazy with how frisky they were. Though their relationship was a secret it was obvious the popstar was in love. It only made fans want to know who was the special man to take her heart.

Jake learned pretty early on the price that came with dating a critically acclaimed songwriter: that if messed up there would be a song about it.

Immediately speculations arose that Y/n and her secret partner were broken up with the release of songs like ‘Woman Like Me,’ & ‘Power.’ She had to get on instagram one day to settle the rumors with a picture of their interlaced hands saying, “You drive me wild sometimes, but my love for you overpowers all.”

Their relationship was eventually exposed when Jake appeared in her music video for ‘Secret Love Song,’ released just shortly before he was set to return to Top Gun. People could easily tell the chemistry between Y/n and her ‘love interest’.

Maybe a little too much chemistry.

Dedicated fans were able to find out who Jake was in less than a week. Matching up his social media post locations and dates with hers, they didn’t even need them to confirm their suspicion to know they were together.

“I guess the cat’s out of the bag,” Jake chuckled, showing Y/n his phone screen with a picture that was just sent to TMZ of the two in San Francisco.

Y/n simply shrugged, “I’m fine with it if you are. I’m happy we got to keep it to ourselves for this long. And considering people are now asking about this—,” she held up her left hand, flashing the diamond engagement ring Jake spent his entire year’s paychecks on. “It was bound to happen sooner or later.”

Was Jake still the arrogant, egotistical pilot amongst his peers? Yes. But was he the type to boast about how he was engaged to one of the best musical artists of the century? Surprisingly no.

He actually enjoyed keeping that little detail a secret. To Jake his personal life was for him and him only. And he didn’t want people going around saying he was a gold-digger or wanting to be that guy who got to say he hooked up with a celebrity. Nah, he was in love with Y/n with his entire being. She was the gravity that kept him down to Earth. Sure they bickered like any couple but never once did either of them cross a line.

The only time they ever had a big argument was when he did get jealous over one of her former co-stars trying to have a shot at her. Y/n tried brushing it off saying it was nothing, but Jake could tell the signs and it upset him Y/n was not taking him seriously. “I just don’t see why you’re being so childish about a dinner party that’s gonna have multiple people.”

“Have you even asked who else is coming? Or wondered why he’s started texting you more when you guys finished filming ages ago? I’m not trying to be insecure or jealous, Y/n, but I know when a guy is trying to flirt. He didn’t even acknowledge me as your date when we were at the premier party. In fact I don’t think he said hello to me when he approached. All his eyes were was on you—which I don’t blame because you’re the most beautiful woman on the planet—but trust me, I know that look because I have it every second I’m with you.”

Needless to say you didn’t go to that dinner party and instead were doing what ‘Love Song’ was about the entire weekend.

When Jake goes to Top Gun for the special detachment, he’s still the arrogant asshole the others thought him to be. But if they were being honest they could see a difference in him. Maybe it was because he wasn’t flirting with anything with legs. Maybe it was the fact he rejected the drink from a pretty blonde. Maybe it was because they caught him smiling at his phone whenever he got a text. Whatever it was, they wanted to find out.

The only person in the detachment who knew of Y/n was Javy considering he was Jake’s best friend. She met him roughly eight months after she and Jake got together after much discussion. Their relationship was still a secret by then so they were hesitant to let anyone besides her team know, but Javy was an important person to Jake. He wanted his best friend to know the woman he loved.

Natasha being the amateur sleuth she was pretty much discovered Jake’s secret in a few days, “No fucking way.”

The evidence was presented to Jake during their lunch break the day after she found out, Nat holding the phone up for him to see. She literally watched the gears turn in his head, a sly smirk forming on his lips. “What about that, Trace?” The question caught the attention of their colleagues, who were trying not to show they were eavesdropping.

“Is that not you?” Nat looked at the screen to make sure it was on the zoomed in image of him and Y/n L/n. The entire music video Jake’s face was pretty much hidden from view, but briefly his face could be made out at certain angles.

“It is,” he shrugged, going back to his sandwich. A cluttered sound indicated Nat had dropped the phone on the table, scrambling to pick it up.

“So you just casually ended up in Y/n L/n’s music video for her iconic song?” By now heads turned, expressions of absolute shock. Well all except Coyote. He just raised his brows at Jake while holding back a laugh, wanting to see what he would say.

“No, I ended up in my fiancé’s music video for her iconic song.”

“You’re what?!”

“Babe, I got a favor to ask you,” Jake’s voice was tainted with exhaustion when he FaceTimed Y/n that night. She was at their Fresno home since he was stationed at NAS Lemoore and was planning to meet him in San Diego that weekend. Raising a brow at him through the screen she could tell he looked apologetic.

“What is it?”

“You think you could come down earlier than planned?” At her reaction he explained, “My detachment found out about us and well……they’re accusing me of photoshopping the photos of you and I—even though they literally saw us make out in your music video. And I want to prove to them I’m telling the truth.”

A moment passed and then Y/n burst into laughter to the point of tears. What got her was the photoshopping accusation.

“Stop laughing,” he pouted, “I’m fighting for me life out here—I could use some backup.”

“My goodness, Jake Seresin,” she calmed down, shaking her head at his butt hurt expression. “You’re something else you know?”

“So does that mean you’re coming?”

“I’ll book my flight for the morning as soon as we get off.”

One could envision the confusion on the pilots/WSOs when Jake prevented them from leaving the airstrip at the end of the work day. It was pushing five in the afternoon, they were tired and hungry, and honestly could care less about what Jake had to show them.

That was until the black SUV with tinted windows pulled up to the parking lot where they were standing. When the door opened jaws dropped to the floor with eyes bulging out at the person emerging from the vehicle. Who happened to jump into Jake’s awaiting arms. Fanboy had to rub his eyes to make sure he was seeing clearly. That it was Y/n L/n sharing a kiss with the resident asshole.

“Oh my God he wasn’t kidding,” Rooster said with a mix of awe and disbelief. Javy patted him on the chest, moving first to greet the popstar who shocked the pilots again with her warm welcome to them. None knew how to react when the couple approached hand in hand.

It’s not everyday someone meets a fucking EGOT winner.

“Hello,” Y/n smiled a dazzling grin, drifting her eyes over each of them and committing their callsign to memory. She could tell what they were likely thinking, ‘How the hell did Hangman manage to pull a fucking popstar?’ And ‘He must be brainwashing her, blink twice if you need help,’ kind of stuff.

Introductions were in store as well as explanations for how the couple came to be. In all the years they knew the pilot, none could’ve predicted that kind of secret. They quickly learned Y/n was not the typical celebrity—some of them were even ashamed to think she’d be stuck up, arrogant, snobbish. They were almost convinced the personality she had in interviews and fan interactions were fake, but Y/n was a truly genuine person. Not only did she come from humble beginnings, but she was a hard, driven worker who truly earned everything she’s gained.

And she was perfect for Jake. They were like two peas in a pod, with Y/n being the only one who could bring him back down to earth. Truly was an amazing thing to witness and the daggers were having trouble comprehending it at times. Hearing the story of how the two met brought tears to Rooster and Fanboy’s eyes by how funny it was, while Phoenix was covering her mouth to hide her smirk at how embarrassed her colleague was.

“In my defense,” he puts his hands on his chest when Bob asks why he thought to pass the side door, “I didn’t expect anyone to still be inside and potentially use that door.”

“He just hates when I tease him about how he literally fell for me,” Y/n winks, making them all smirk.

Later on in the night after going to the Hard Deck for drinks and pool, Rooster says, “You know I feel I won’t be able to use my karaoke song if we ever go cause I’ll be too flustered to sing a song in front of the person it’s written by.” Y/n couldn’t help but blush, giggling lightly.

“What is it?”

“Last Friday Night. Such a banger—really gets the crows going.”

Even after the Uranium mission happened, the daggers continued to remain in contact. Many were offered jobs of instructors but the real surprise came a couple months later from the Pentagon asking if they could remain a permanent team. Selling their San Francisco home, Jake and Y/n moved to San Diego, which was better since it was closer to L.A. The team hung out often with Friday nights reserved for the Hard Deck.

Y/n even found musical inspiration with them.

“So I have a proposal,” she hums to Nat and Callie one day while the guys are playing football on the beach. “Not a marriage one Jake claimed that one already,” she pauses when they all laugh at the joke, “but a ‘if you want to be a part of it I would love it if you did but I understand if you can't be’ kind of one.”

Nat tilts her head curiously, Callie mirroring her, “What is it?”

“I wrote a song….that you two helped inspire,” Y/n smiles at their expressions, “and I’d love for you both to be in the music video after I release it.”

Nat loses it, “OH MY GOD YOU WHAT?!!”

“Can we hear it!?” Callie blushes, “I’m so honored—oh my God I literally don’t know how to react to that.”

“Girl you cannot just drop that on us,” Nat playfully points with narrowed eyes, “If you weren’t Jake’s soon to be wife I would marry you right now.” Y/n just laughs, rummaging through her bag to find her notebook to show them the song.

“If he messes up you’ll be the first to know and we can head to the courthouse.”

“Don’t play with me now, Y/n,” Nat shakes her head. “No man has ever done something like that. Write a song inspired by me?” She gives a dramatic sigh. “Feels like I’m living in a romance novel.”

Both read the song, both fell in love with it and pretty much cried. It was empowering, motivational, a love letter to women, everything they wished they heard growing up in a field where men dominated and looked down upon them. Y/n made sure to keep them updated when she was in the studio, allowing them to hear it first before it was released.

2020 was a year no one could’ve expected.

It started off great with the singer releasing ‘Salute,’ shortly after the New Year and filing the music video in February. The song was well received from fans and critics, with people already calling it the ‘anthem of the year.’ Jake loved it and would send clips of him in the car to Y/n belting the lyrics. The guys all loved it too and loved that their colleagues were the source of inspiration.

Halo and Phoenix were part of the MV as well as women who in real life were doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, athletes, students, astronauts, & scientists from all ages, races/ethnicities, genders, etc. Not all of them were in the armed forces, but a couple were along with Nat and Callie. Special permission from the Navy & Top Gun was needed to put cameras in the F-18’s on the exterior and interior to capture footage of the two flying. Halo was Nat’s backseater for that day and the guys came out just to watch and support.

Released just before March, the music video hit 100 million views in less than 12 hours. It only grew from there with people praising Y/n and the women included in the project. There was talk of ‘Salute’ being nominated for the upcoming awards, Team USA asked permission to use the song for promotion for their women athletes for the upcoming Games. Y/n was over the moon, really looking forward for what the year held. Especially with her wedding around the corner.

Then the world shut down. Literally.

A global pandemic altered everything and everyone. Anything that required a group of people ranging from small to stadium level was banned. States were on curfew and not letting people cross borders, international traveling was restricted. Lockdown was mandated for pretty much everywhere to the point Jake was working from home for a couple months.

In that time Y/n threw herself into writing songs to release her next album. Her reason: she was in need of a break. Not a ‘I’m retiring from music,’ but a ‘I’m drained and in dire need of taking time for myself and start the family I’ve always wanted.’ It was always her plan for after she and Jake got married, just to have a few years for themselves and see where life takes them.

Thankfully when the pandemic hit Y/n was already done with her collaboration with Lady Gaga. The fellow popstar had been her friend since she joined the industry and it was a long time coming for the two to work together. Not to mention they were on American Horror Story together. The Mother Monster approached the High Note Princess in late 2019, both sharing ideas and writing the song together before recording to release in 2020. Filming the music video, they combed both of their aesthetics and styles to create a pop masterpiece.

Fans went crazy. They loved the return to classic pop when both singers had gone off to pursue acting careers and change their sound a bit. Many felt deprived of being able to dance to ‘Rain On Me’ in a club since going out was restricted. And you can best believe the Daggers felt the same—especially Rooster who loved to dance his ass off, “I would be tearing it up right now if Rona wasn’t such a bitch.”

Surprisingly the 2020 VMAs still happened. It was roughly six months after the outbreak and very strict regulations were in place for the show to go on. With ‘Rain On Me,’ being so popular and popstars releasing albums, Y/n and Lady Gaga were invited to perform. After prepping for weeks and self-quarantining, the daggers all gathered around at the couple’s home to watch the live show. Lady Gaga was the first to perform solely when it was their turn, then Y/n joined causing the select few in the crowd to cheer—with her friends and loved ones going crazy in their living room. All were in awe when she hit a high note, killing it with the choreography and honestly being the best performers of the night. Finally Lady Gaga left the stage with her dancers allowing Y/n’s to appear in time for the popstar to sing ‘Salute.’ At the house, Halo and Nat were dancing along and belting the lyrics with the guys while recording the performance on their phones.

“Sisters, we are everywhere! Warriors, your country needs you! If you’re ready, ladies, better keep steady, ready, aim, shoot! Don’t need ammunition, on a mission—now we hit you with the truth! Divas, queen, we don’t need no man, SALUTE!!”

2021 came with hope and breaths of fresh air. A vaccination was developed, restrictions were lifted in most locations meaning Y/n and Jake could finally plan for their wedding. It took a few months to plan, desiring an intimate private wedding at their home with their close friends and family. The daggers were all there, including Maverick, Cyclone, Warlock, and Hondo. Their families were all there as well as Y/n’s managers & agents, some cast members from the shows/films she grew close to, as well as artists like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, David Guetta, and The Black Eyed Peas, the Jonas Brothers, & Miley Cyrus.

A sweet ceremony, Y/n squealed when Jake tipped her back to the cheers of their loved ones as he kissed her passionately. “I love you so much, Y/n. Or should I say, Mrs. Seresin.”

“I love you too, Mr. Seresin,” she kissed him again, “Now let’s show them we’re the life of the party.”

Rings on their fingers, grins plastered their faces when they ran through the Arch of Swords the guys of the Dagger Squad set up on the aisle. Then came time for the reception. Jake presented Y/n with a sword, per military tradition, to cut the cake and Y/n poured the champagne over the tower of glasses. They had their first dance, which Javy made sure to do his best man duties and record everything.

Which came in handy when it was time for Y/n’s surprise for Jake.

Seating him in a chair at the front of the dance floor, Y/n smirked at his confused expression as she took the mic from the DJ, calling everyone's attention. “All of you know I’m one for surprises. And tonight is no exception,” biting her lip she signaled for her maid of honor, who started rounding up the bridesmaids. “I thought it would be great to give Jake a little treat tonight—do not take that the wrong way, I can already see your minds going somewhere,” she pointed at the daggers who were hollering, giggling as she continued, “Stop it. Anyways, we’ve been cooking up this little number for the past month and now it’s time to let it shine. Baby, this is for you.”

Jake slapped a hand to his mouth containing his expression of glee when the opening chords to Y/n’s ‘Power’ echoed through the speakers. Her bridesmaids got into place, the singer discarding her veil and moving to the center. Everyone was on their feet hooting and hollering, capturing the performance on their phones for memory. Javy even put the phone right up in Jake’s face, Payback slapping the pilot on the back as the others whistled and danced. Just the expression of his mother and family sent Jake into tears of laughter.

She was flabbergasted. Unlike his sister and brother who were having the time of their lives witnessing the masterpiece that was Y/n practically seducing her husband live and singer her own song.

“I don’t think she’s heard this song until now!” He shouted over the music to the phone, blushing when Y/n winked at him. To be fair, the bridge of ‘Power’ was a little on the frisky side and Y/n was edging closer to Jake until she was basically in his lap.

“Don’t be fooled, I got you wrapped up. In the arms of an animal—get you thinking that I’m all innocent. But wait ‘til I get you home. If you don’t, baby, you should know. I’m the one who’s in control.”

Hell yeah she was in control when she got home that night….well at least for a few rounds she was.

Sadness came with the announcement of her break from music. The hot topic for media outlets, Y/n had released a statement on Twitter and Instagram confirming the suspicions many had after her wedding. Fans were understandably upset that their favorite artist wouldn’t be releasing new material until further notice, but they’d rather have Y/n at her best and not give half ass energy in her work. She was burnt out. It was time for a break after 13 years with six albums, each with their own tour. Don’t get her wrong, the popstar loved to be on the road, but after a while she was ready to just stay home for some time without planning for what was next.

In the meantime she sold songs for other people, collaborated on writing with artists, and acted when filming was either in L.A or San Diego. She and Jake were happily married, little to no financial stress or personal issues, and were ready to expand their family. By mid 2025 they had/adopted two kids, two dogs, and a cat. They were a full house with no dull days whatsoever.

“Are you going to get back in the studio like you mentioned the other week?” Jake asked at dinner, helping cut his son's food into smaller pieces.

Y/n nibbled on her floor while also assisting their daughter, “Yeah I think this weekend I’m gonna call Jack up and see what his schedule is like. I got some lyrics I’d like him to read.” Sipping on her drink briefly she then asks, “How long do you think this next mission is going to be?”

“Probably a week or two. Mav is working out the details and hopes to tell us Monday. I just pray I’ll make it in time for your birthday.”

Y/n feels her heart skip, giving a soft smile, “You know I understand if you can’t, honey. If the Pentagon is tasking you then you know it’s important. We’ll celebrate either before or after you get back,” she assured, reaching over to hold his hand when he frowned.

“I just hate the idea of missing it, you know? It’s your birthday and I missed our anniversary last year,” he pauses to sigh, “I just hate leaving you guys for so long. And I never wanna make you feel like you’re always alone.”

“I knew what I was getting into when we fell in love. Don’t feel like you’re missing out or I’m going to suddenly start giving ultimatums because you know I’m not that person. If it was our anniversary or another memorable date I would still feel the same. You have a job, Jake, you’re the best there is to do it. There will be plenty more birthdays for us to be together for.”

Being back in the studio felt like a whole new world. It had been nearly five years since her last single was in late 2020. When Jake was working the kids would come with her and be the stars of the crew, playing in the mini play area they had set up while Y/n was recording. Besides the people she worked with, only Jake knew she was releasing new music. Quite literally Y/n did not announce anything until the night before with a single Tweet and Instagram post with the art cover and the caption, “Tomorrow at midnight, Between Us.”

She broke the internet to put it lightly.

August 2026

18 years in the music industry and the rush before a live performance had Y/n pacing backstage during the commercial break of the VMAs. Their children were being occupied by her manager while Jake helped her mentally prepare. He was going to be the one to present her the award at the end of her set, so they were just waiting for the green light from the stage manager. The performance was going to be nearly ten minutes, the longest she’s ever done live on an award show since it was going to be a medley of some of her classic hits while also including ‘Between Us’. Lady Gaga, Y/n’s close friend and who collaborated with her again on her most recent album, was going to introduce her.

“Deep breaths with me, baby,” Jake held her in his arms, kissing her forehead. “I can feel you shaking. But once you get on stage it’s gonna be like you never left.” Taking a strong inhale, Y/n let it out slowly before repeating.

“I know it probably won’t happen,” she starts to laugh, “but I can’t help but dread the idea of me falling on my ass or forgetting my lyrics.” Jake laughs with her, shaking his head while pulling away to look at her.

“Knowing you, you’d fall gracefully and make it look like it was intentional. Also you mumble those lyrics in your sleep…you won’t forget them.”

She leans more into him just as the stage manager yells, “You’re on in five, Y/n!” The commercial break must have ended. Lady Gaga was already being pulled on stage after wishing the popstar good luck with a hug and friendly kiss to the cheek. “We need you over here please.”

“That’s your cue,” Jake grins, cupping his wife’s face before bringing her in for a passionate kiss. Y/n smiles into it, nuzzling their noses together causing him to chuckle. When they pull away he says, “Go out there and have fun. Bottom line, baby, have fun out there and sing your heart out. I’m so lucky and honored to be your husband and share this life with you. Don’t start crying,” he playfully scolds when her eyes tear up, “you’ll ruin your nice makeup your team worked so hard on.” That makes her laugh. Jake kisses her again, “I love you, baby. I’ll see you at the end.”

“I love you, Jake,” she hugs him tightly, feeling comfort in the smell of his cologne. “Thank you for being by my side everyday. You’re the light of my life—,” she nods to the stage manager who was waving frantically. “Fuck okay, I wanted to be more romantic but I got to go before they drag me.”

“Go, go,” he kisses her cheek, Y/n moving quickly to kiss her children and hug her managers before waving goodbye. “We love you!!”

Running to the nearly annoyed stage manager, she throws off her robe to reveal her stage outfit and takes the microphone. Heart pounding, she adjusts her earpiece as they escort her to the spot she was needed just as Lady Gaga finished her introduction speech, “Los Angeles and to everyone watching at home, it is my honor to present to you your recipient of this year’s MTV Video Vanguard Award. Get on your feet and make some noise for the one and only, Y/n L/n!!”

It was still dark on stage where Y/n was hidden from the audience as all attention went to the giant screens all around showing the pre-recorded video montage with her face in black and white and eyes closed. The crowd was already going crazy as the camera zoomed in toward Y/n’s face while audio played of her talking about her love for music and the thrill of performing. The camera continued to pan in, the popstar on stage thinking about everything that had led her to that moment. From starting out her days singing in a jazz club, to becoming one of only 19 EGOT winners, and now the recipient of the Video Vanguard award.

The microphone went to her mouth, Y/n putting on the show of the year when the video ended with her eyes opening and voice echoing the music channel’s iconic phrase in the stadium, “I want my MTV!!”
