Note: I know I’m a month late, but here it is, at last 😅
It was a years-old tradition at this point, not a surprise anymore. Hoseok was alone in the dance studio, practising for a dance cover. It was early in the evening, and he knew the door would burst open any minute, as the lights go out and the guys bring in a ‘surprise’ birthday cake for him along with the staff, while the cameramen filmed everything for ARMY.
It happened when he sat down to take a break and drink some water. The suddenness of the lights going out did surprise him, but a big smile soon adorned his face, not that anyone could see it. He cackled (which was drowned among all the ruckus) when he saw Seokjin moving towards the opposite side of the room from him, the elder’s face illuminated from the candles on the cake he was holding.
Yoongi, Namjoon, and Taehyung’s voices obnoxiously boomed around the studio as they sang the birthday song, and the happy giggles of Jeongguk and Jimin followed.
Seokjin, after hilariously almost bumping into the mirror, called out, “Hob-ah!”
“I’m here hyung!” Hoseok finally allowed himself to laugh loudly. All of them, except Seokjin and Taehyung who were also laughing, started singing again.
Hoseok got up and stood in front of the cake, clasping his hands as he made a wish. The guys and some of the staff cheered as she blew the candles. Despite being used to this, his heart filled with gentle warmth and strong love every year having these special birthday parties of sorts.
“Okay, okay, time for hyung’s grand thank-you speech for ARMY!” Jimin’s voice rang out from the tangle of excited chatter.
Hoseok giggled and approached one of the two cameras filming them.
“ARMY,” He cleared his throat, acting nervous (he had a very obvious smoulder and was clearly trying to make people laugh), “I don’t have a grand speech today. Just remember, I love you. And that there are seven men who always understand, it doesn’t matter if they are in the same city as you or halfway across the world; we’re always here. Thank you for all the love you always give us and for all the wishes earlier in the live. Love you!”
His members cheered as soon as he finished and he exaggeratedly joined in. The cameras soon stopped rolling and the staff flocked around to give him their wishes. He saw his favourite stylist no one, their most serious makeup hyung (who had a rare smile) and their smartest editor noona (Namjoon once drunkenly claimed that she was even smarter than him).
Hoseok was done practising for the day anyway, so he accompanied the rest of the guys to the dorms. They had spent about two hours with all this, and the sun had gone down completely by the time they reached their cars.
Or should I say car? Hoseok was mildly surprised to see one of their old limos sanding at their usual pick-up spot instead of the two cars they had started using. He didn’t question it though. He was pretty tired and having s shoulder to lay down on sounded tempting.
The evening air around them was filled with light chatter as they made their way to the car. Jeongguk let out a big yawn, which prompted Hoseok to do so too.
Once inside, he found himself between Taehyung and Namjoon. He wasted no time in throwing his legs on his same-aged bandmate and laid down on Taehyung. This was way different from his head-on-shoulder plan, but no one was complaining and this was comfier too. The others all chuckled at him as he settled in his new bed.
Taehyung leaned down to press a light kiss on Hoseok’s forehead, who responded by closing his eyes and pouting back at him. The other chuckled again after seeing this, and Taehyung complied with his wishes and kissed him. It was a lazy kiss, and neither of them was used to kissing upside down, but it was exactly what they needed after a long day of practising and recording.
Hoseok felt Namjoon’s hands creep up his legs and settle on his thighs, rubbing comforting circles there. He sighed in content against Taehyung’s lips. The younger leaned back up soon after, and Hoseok looked up at him, panting lightly.
He turned his head towards the others and saw Seokjin and Jeongguk looking at them fondly. Jimin was quietly talking to Yoongi and had his head on the latter’s shoulder, settling in to take a nap.
Hoseok smiled at their eldest and youngest and got one in return. It didn’t take long for Hoseok (and Jimin) to fall asleep after that.
(Namjoon assigned the task of getting the roommates to their room to Seokjin and Jeongguk. After receiving protests from them, he smugly told them that he, Yoongi, and Taehyung had already bore their weight.
Seokjin grumbled and but complied, and Jeongguk took a little more persuasion.
At the end of it, the maknae regretted not sleeping in the car.)
