Love Story - Adam Stanheight / Reader
A/N Taylor Swift's Love Story inspired this one, clearly. LOL.
Adam Stanheight pulled you in, and you rested the back of your head on his shoulder, looking at the image in front of you. In the photo the sun was setting, you were in your prettiest dress, and Adam was in a tux. You both were hugging each other tightly. “You remember?” Adam asked in your ear.
“How the fuck would I forget?” You answered bluntly. “On the count of three, yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“One, two, three.” You closed your eyes, and so did Adam. A younger version of yourself came into your mind.
You could still feel the wind on your skin, as you stood on the balcony in summer air. You were overlooking a raging party, the lights were dim, and everyone was dressed in ball gowns. In the back you could see Adam Faulkner walking towards you. “Hello,” he whispered.
“Hi.” You gazed up at him in awe. Adam was a nice guy, but sometimes he came off on the wrong foot. Your parents weren’t sure about him. Your father didn’t want you near him and he made that clear to Adam. “Stay away from Y/N.”
This was so disheartening to you that you started crying on the stairs, grabbing Adam’s hands and jeans, and begging him not to leave. You needed him in your life. “Please don’t go!”
Adam kissed you casually. He was so nonchalant. You wondered how he could be so calm all the time. “I’m not gonna leave you,” he assured you and tipped his head to the side. “Why would I do that?”
You stood up and pulled Adam closer. “Adam, take me somewhere we can be alone. I’ll be waiting, all there’s left to do is run. You’ll be the prince, and I’ll be the princess.”
Adam smiled in amusement. “It’s a love story. Baby just say ‘yes’,” he finished and you melted. Your parents were still watching from the side, glares on their faces. Then Adam pulled away. You were forced to watch him leave afterwards. Your heart hurt and it drove you mad.
But you were not easily deterred. You wouldn’t give up Adam for the world. Your mom and dad didn’t have to know what you got up to when you went on long walks. They’d never know you were still seeing him. You snuck out the very next night, and met Adam in the garden. Your heart fluttered when you touched his hands. He was so perfect standing there, with the moonlight behind him. In whispered tones you expressed how much you loved one another, and proceeded to walk delicately around the rose bushes and the petunias and the sunflowers. Your conversations were hushed, as you tried to keep quiet. You both would be so dead if your parents knew about this. But lucky for you, that wouldn’t happen. You were way too cool for this shit.
You came up behind Adam, and covered his eyes. “Close your eyes,”
It was time to escape this town for a little while.
Adam raised his hands up to yours. “Hmmm,” he hummed. “Y/N.” He leaned into you.
You kissed him on the head as Adam pulled your hands back down to his sides. “How are you tonight?” You wondered aloud.
“Brilliant,” Adam answered. “You?”
“Same.”
“Come out so I can see you.”
You felt suddenly self conscious. You had dressed up for this event. It was the same outfit you wore on your first date with Adam. Slowly, you moved out from behind Faulkner, and stood in front of him timidly. “Hi,” you murmured.
Adam gaped at you, then let out a low wolf whistle. His eyes traveled all the way down your body and then came back up to meet your gaze. “I like it.”
You smiled, a light blush tinting your cheeks. “Oh…” You found yourself unable to look at Adam. He took advantage of your shyness, and kissed you.
“Cause you were Adam,” you mumbled around his lips. “I was a scarlet letter.”
The door to the garden was flung open then. Apparently, your quietness hadn’t lasted. “How many times have I told you?” You recognized the voice of your dad again, and you frowned miserably. “Stay away from my child! Stay away from F/N L/N!”
Adam backed away, but he wasn’t daunted. “Sure.” He said with a shrug, and saluted you. You stared at him in disbelief, and then grabbed his shoulders. He was everything to you! “Please don’t go!” You gasped.
Adam kissed you roughly. “I’m not gonna leave you.” He smirked at you. “Why would I do that?” There was a knowing glint in his eyes. Your heart softened into hot wax. He was so perfect. So casual. How did he do that? How did he make you want him even more? How did he stay so relaxed, even though you were being torn apart from him?
You blinked up at him in amazement. “Adam… please…”
Adam winked at you, and glanced you up and down once more. “You look gorgeous in that, baby.”
You watched him sadly as he disappeared into the shadows, and retreated back into the trees. “Adam, take me somewhere we can be alone,” You muttered under your breath. “I’ll be waiting, all there’s left to do is run. You’ll be the prince, and I’ll be the princess…” You trailed off out of habit, allowing Adam to finish it. You were greeted with silence. It was so deafening, you almost flinched physically. You forced yourself to continue. “It’s a love story. Baby just say ‘yes’.”
Your father spoke up from behind you after a while. “How long?”
“How long?” you asked him.
“How long have you been seeing him behind our backs?”
You shook your head. “It doesn’t matter.”
“Y/N, listen to me. I don’t know what you see in him. All the good guys turn out to be bad people in the end. You need to let him go. He’s not good for you.”
“I love him!” You yelled abruptly. “Stop trying to convince me that he’s not worth it. You haven’t even met him, you don’t even know him. Get to know him first!”
“You should drop him,” your dad grumbled.
You stormed past him in a huff and went to your bedroom, where you were hoping to get some sleep - but you doubted that you would.
The next day you found Adam waiting in the garden for you. You gave him a reluctant smile when you saw him. You didn’t know what he was doing here, and for the first time you weren’t glad to see him. This was not a safe place for him, why did he come back here?
You threw on a coat, and went to greet him. Your feet brushed over the cool grass as you trudged over to him. “You shouldn’t be here.”
“How are you?” Adam asked calmly.
“Could be better. Adam, they’re trying to tell me how to feel. This love is difficult.”
“But it’s real,” Adam replied smoothly. “Don’t doubt that, F/N L/N.”
You huffed out dubiously. “How can you say that after last night?”
Adam only said, “Don’t be afraid, we’ll make it out of this mess. It’s a love story. Baby just say ‘yes’.” He brushed out your jacket. “Please.”
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
Days went by after that. You didn’t see Adam for a long time. You wondered what was happening. Why wasn’t he answering your calls? Why wasn’t he showing up anymore? Maybe your dad had been right from the beginning? You didn’t want to think that, but life was getting lonely. Speaking of your dad, you hadn’t seen much of him lately either. He hadn’t spoken much to you at all. You walked aimlessly around the garden, your heart heavy.
What the hell?
You didn’t want to feel hopeless, but there was an empty setting in your stomach. It worried you, it upset you, it frightened you. You decided to go for a walk. A long walk. You needed out of here! Some place to clear your head. Some time to get away from the memories.
When you reached the outskirts of your small town, you stopped walking. You didn’t know what you were doing here, but you knew you should return home. It probably wasn’t safe here by the road when it was getting dark. You turned around, and found someone you were not expecting.
Adam Stanheight was watching you from afar. A smile was on his face. You stared at him halfheartedly. “What? Are you here to break my heart?”
Faulkner shifted his weight from foot to foot, but didn’t say anything to you, which made you feel even more dismayed. His eyes shone with some kind of deviance, and playfulness, and… knowledge that you were unaware of.
“What? Are you going to talk to me?”
Still, silence.
“Well I have some things to say to you.”
Adam shrugged. “By all means.” He was way too damn relaxed!
“Adam, save me! I’ve been feeling so alone. I keep waiting for you, but you never come!”
“Let’s change that,” Adam said in a quiet tone. Kneeling to the ground, he pulled out a ring. “Marry me, Y/N. You’ll never have to be alone. I love you, and that’s all I really know. I talked to your dad-”
“How the hell did you talk to my dad?” You interrupted.
Adam tilted his head to the side. “You said something that changed his mind.”
You glared at the ground. “No, I didn’t.”
“Yes, you did,” Adam insisted. “He got to know me a little. He said he was sorry for jumping to conclusions. Said you were right the whole time, and that maybe not everyone’s life will be the same. He said he gives us his blessing.”
You stared at him. “What?”
“Just pick out a white dress, okay. It’s a love story. Baby just say ‘yes’.” Adam put a lot of emphasis on the last word.
Your heart was almost literally jumping out of your throat. “Oh my god. Yes. I will. I want this.”
Adam pulled you down and kissed you. “Don’t be so negative, princess. I didn’t give up on us. Why should you?”
You buried your face in his shoulder. “I’m sorry, Adam.”
Adam hugged you close. “Stay with me.” And you kissed him in response.
Slowly, cautiously, you opened your eyes again. Adam was holding you close to him. “Adam,” you whispered.
“We were both young when I first saw you,” he said softly.
You clung to him. “We’re still married after all this time,” you said distantly.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Adam remarked.
You pressed close to him. “Me neither.”
He kissed you, and pushed you to the floor. You let out a moan of surprise, which Adam seemed to take delight in, and he started caressing you. You allowed him to touch you. “It’s been awhile,” you commented.
“Shh. Just relax.”
You leaned your head back. “Sure.” You whispered, as Adam started pulling off your clothes. And that’s exactly what you did. But the sun was setting out the window and the windows were closed and shuttered, and the neighbors were all asleep. But Adam was calm and collected - as ever. The duo would follow the sun tonight and take things all the more slowly. It was vital for the first year anniversary. It was the newly made tradition.
And it wasn't about to change.
Early Sunday Morning - Adam Stanheight / Reader
It was Sunday, about six forty-five in the morning, the last day of the week. Thoughts and anxieties had woken you up. You floundered in the bed sheets futilely but couldn’t fall asleep again. You threw the covers off yourself, and flung your legs over the edge of the bed. The atmosphere was quiet and dull. A white light filtered through the big bedroom windows, the blinds folded shut. It was a chilly morning and you shivered as you got to your feet. It was cloudy outside, and the sun was just barely emerging from behind the large city buildings. You went to fix the blankets you messed up on the bed, and noticed Adam sleeping on the other side. You did not want to wake him so you gently brought the covers over your pillow. Adam rolled over, but didn’t open his eyes. Now he was facing you, his skin looking pale in the white light, and his whole expression peaceful and vulnerable. You heard the clock chime from the kitchen, and you glanced briefly in its direction. Adam twisted a little bit and you looked back at him. He was still fast asleep.
You turned away from the bed and padded into the bathroom. It was colder in here than it was in your bedroom. You stumbled to the bathtub and clumsily turned on the shower, you grabbed a clean towel from the cabinet, then waited for the water to warm. The remnants of your dream still haunted you a bit, but you proceeded to undress yourself, then stepped into the tub.
Hot water splashed on your face and rolled down your back. It soothed you and washed away all the horrors that still lurked in your mind from the night before. You let out a breath of relief, and leaned against the shower wall. You let your hair hang down in the water. It was so hot it burned you, but you liked it. ‘Scorching’ was better than just ‘hot’. The water relaxed your muscles, calmed your nerves, and allowed you to think clearly. The steam wafted up and warmed your face, it fogged the mirrors and the windows.
In your moment of bliss you missed the creak that came from the bathroom door, and the light swish of the shower curtain being pulled back. Someone came inside with you, and started bringing their hands up your back. You leaned into them, turning your head slightly to the left. “Adam…” you murmured.
“Morning…” Adam answered calmly in your ear.
“I didn’t mean to wake you, Adam,” you breathed out.
Adam leaned down and kissed you on the lips. He pulled you even closer to him and wrapped his hands around your waist. “It’s okay.” His warm breath passed over your lips. You put your head on his shoulder, and let the water roll over you.
Adam spun you around delicately so that you were facing him. He took in all your little details, and scanned your body up and down. You stared at him hesitantly, yet playfully, and waited for him to say something. “Like what you see?” You asked him wittily.
Adam raised an intrigued eyebrow at you. “Oh, definitely.” He pushed you against the wall, moving his head in close to yours. Your lips were nearly touching at this point, and you hummed out happily. “You look good,” he whispered.
“Oh, I’m sure. Doesn’t everyone think their significant other looks good without any clothes on?”
“I’ve seen other people without their clothes on,” Adam said simply. “And none of them compare to the beautiful sight in front of me right now.”
You scoffed. “You’re such a charmer.”
“I don’t know about that. You must be pretty good yourself, if you ended up in my dream last night.”
“Oh? What was I doing?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know?”
“I mean of course not, that’s why I asked. Because I didn’t want to know about your dream at all, so I asked about it,” you mumbled sarcastically.
Adam’s gaze flashed down to your mouth momentarily then came back up to yours. He narrowed his eyes at you flirtatiously, a small smile on his face. “You look rather kissable right now.”
You shrugged. “Well, I’m here aren’t I? Or would you prefer to wait a little longer?”
“Don’t play the Top game with me, Y/N.”
You smirked at him. “Why not, baby? You’ve been playing the Sub game ever since we started dating.”
Adam scowled at you. “I’ve gotten better.”
“You’ve gotten CONFIDENT. Being ‘confident’ and being ‘dominant’ are not the same thing.”
Adam eyed you miserably, knowing full-well that he had lost the argument. Knowing full-well that you were RIGHT.
“Are you going to kiss me?” You asked him finally. Adam’s mouth was only inches away from yours now, the close proximity was driving you mad. But Adam didn’t oblige. Instead, you asked again, “What happened in your dream, Adam?”
Adam looked at you halfheartedly, then struggled to say, “You… being dominant… Like usual.”
You rolled your head onto the wall, and looked at Adam from the side. “I’ll let you do it this time, then. You were right about one thing, you have gotten better at it.”
Adam grit his teeth. “Hardly. I learned from a professional.” He winked at you.
“If you won’t kiss me, I’ll kiss you,” you whispered firmly.
Adam stared at you. “Go ahead.”
Eagerly, you closed the gap between his mouth and yours, and started intensely making out. There was no lead up, no preparation, nothing. Just immediately to the point without any dilly-dallying.
Adam was kissing you hard, pressing into you, strongly pinning you to the wall. His hands left your waist and started rubbing your cheeks. There was no room between you and him. You were practically being squashed in between your boyfriend and your shower wall. But you liked it - a lot.
There was heat corrupting your face, steam clogging your nose and eyes, water drowning your skin, and butterflies flying in your stomach. You felt incredibly elated, your mind was numb. Adam’s lips on yours was such a miraculous feeling; it left a tingling in your lips and a rush of jubilation entering your brain. Maybe Adam was the submissive one, but he was a helluva good kisser. You couldn’t get enough of him.
You were out of breath by the time either of you stopped. Your lungs felt like they were burning, but everything else was high on adrenaline. You and your boyfriend stared into each other’s eyes deeply, both of you panting heavily into the other’s mouth.
After a couple seconds of winding down, Adam said, “Love you, Y/N.”
Your heart fluttered at his words. It made you feel good to hear him say that. You looked up at him, lacing your fingers in with his. “Love you, too.”
Adam reached for the shampoo on the shelf, keeping his eyes fixed on you, and then started to message your head. You gritted your teeth and fell against Adam’s chest, letting out a contented sigh. His skin was warm and soft. You closed your eyes and enjoyed feeling Adam’s firm hands on your scalp. He tenderly rocked your head into the stream of running water, making sure not to get any on your face. Scorching water trickled down your forehead and shoulders, and dripped from your hair.
When the shampoo was completely out of your hair, he backed away. You felt obliged to give him the same treatment, so you slathered some shampoo on your hands and combed your fingers through his hair. Adam smiled at you contentedly. “Hi…” he commented shyly.
“Hi,” you said sweetly, and pushed his head on to your shoulder. You felt Adam breathe out in satisfaction. You smiled, enjoying this way too much. Feeling Adam leaning on you for support was… honestly kind of hot… Then again, everything Adam did was… ‘honestly kind of hot’. He was so perfect.
A couple of minutes passed as you both finished bathing each other. This shower was probably the most efficient one you’d taken in your life; it had definitely felt good. Now that the water was off, you stared at the curtain dishearteningly. Neither of you wanted to get out into the cold. “Want to grab my towel?” You asked Adam hopefully. You batted your eyelashes at him in a joking manner, though you were slightly hoping it would work.
“No,” Adam said bluntly. “You want to get mine?”
“No.”
It was silent after that. Kissing broke out between you again, but only for a short moment. Then your phone rang. You looked back at the curtain. “You should do it,” you said playfully. “I’m too tired! I woke up before you did!”
Adam gave you a disapproving look. “Even I know that’s not true. Why don’t YOU get MY towel?”
“I’m not freezing my ass off for you.”
“I guess I won’t come to you when I’m stuck in a blizzard then,” Adam muttered dryly. “That’s good news, thank you.”
You elbowed him in the ribs. “Knock it off! I didn’t mean it.”
“Then go out there and grab a towel.”
“Look, it’s not my fault you didn’t bring one over.”
“You didn’t either,” Adam retorted.
“Well, at least I got mine OUT,” you replied smartly.
Adam pushed you through the curtain. “Get out of here.”
You fell down in a pile of hands and feet onto the linoleum bathroom floor, but not before grasping Adam’s hand in your own, and bringing him tumbling out with you. You were sprawled halfway out of the bathtub on your stomach. Adam was also halfway out of the tub, laying on his stomach.
You let out a yelp of surprise, and Adam let out an exclamation of disgust. But you yourself were proud.
Epic plan gone wrong… You thought to yourself complacently.
“If I go, you go, baby. That’s how it works,” you told Adam smoothly.
Adam gasped, then seemed to find his positioning on top of you quite pleasing, and leaned his mouth to your ear. “Of course,” he purred seductively. “I wouldn’t have it any other way. You know I’d never leave you to suffer all alone.” You felt his warm breath travel down your cheek. It made you giddy.
You chuckled nervously. “A-Adam…”
“What’s that you said about being the top?”
You huffed. “I didn’t say that. Did I say that? Hmmm, strange things happen to the bottoms, don’t they?”
“Right. Like their conceited personalities.”
“Don’t get cocky,” you said in a low tone.
Adam got up. “I’m fucking cold. Thanks, Y/N.”
You shrugged. “You felt warm to me.”
Adam chucked your towel at you. “Happy?”
You started drying your hair. “Yes…” you mumbled cheerily.
Adam shook his head in disbelief, and sat next to you on the floor. He was also tussling his hair with a towel, but he didn’t need to; it was too short for that. You beamed at him, feeling the close proximity eating you alive.
Once both of you had hung up your towels, Adam pulled you into a tight embrace, in which he started leaving little kisses down your cheeks and jaws. You squirmed in his grasp, a big smile on your lips and also a bright blush on your cheeks. You both laughed a little, and then you tried to pry Adam away. “Stop!” You gasped.
“Why so eager to leave me? Do you have to be somewhere? Are you seeing someone else?” Adam shot you a look full of fake hurt. “How could you?”
“No, no, no, no, no!” You blurted desperately. “It’s not like that! I don’t want to leave YOU, I want to leave this cold bathroom!”
Adam released you, a smug smile on his face. “Okay. I can deal with that. It’s very cold in here.”
You made a beeline for the dresser in the room over. You flung open the drawers, and pulled out your favorite things to where - preferably the most comfortable. You saw Adam come up beside you and pull out a white shirt, and a pair of jeans.
What else did he wear? The plaid flannel that was on the edge of the bed? Sadly, you were right. You mocked him for it, but Adam laughed with you.
“I know what works baby, why would I find something else to buy when I know that white T-shirts and jeans are comfortable?”
You sighed, and laid on the bed, your face towards the ceiling, when your stomach decided it was time to eat something. It announced it very loudly, and embarrassingly. Adam cast you an astonished look. “Hungry?”
You scrunched your nose at him indignantly. “Maybe I’m a little hungry?”
“You want leftovers?” Adam wondered worriedly.
You glanced at him nervously. “Yeah…” You murmured.
There weren't enough leftovers for two people. You both knew this and scrambled to your feet, racing for the door, each of you trying to be faster and smarter than the other. In a laughing fit, you and Adam made it to the fridge at the same time, therefore declaring it a tie and resolutely forcing both of you to split the meal in half. At the end of it all though, you ended up having to make waffles to satisfy the remaining hunger.
Oh what a morning. Today was going to be great! You couldn’t wait for next week.
August - Adam Stanheight X Reader
Adam Faulkner Stanheight was sitting on the couch, waiting for his significant other - that would be you - to come home. You had left to grab (your favorite dessert). It wasn’t a particularly special occasion, but you both had wanted something to sweeten up your lives a little bit. Adam smoked somberly, shaping his shallow thoughts into something much more understandable. But it was all for naught, seeing as he was still in the same place of emotion that he was in when he started this expedition.
Lazily, and listlessly, Adam rearranged himself on the couch. He knew you would be disapproving when you saw that the windows were closed, but he couldn’t bring himself to open them. He was way too tired for that. All he wanted to do was lay down. He tried to keep his eyes open, but eventually found himself falling asleep while also nearly choking to death on cigarette smoke.
He coughed and sputtered until his throat was sore, and then he twisted out his cigarette. That was enough today, but he was still left with an empty feeling; his satisfaction just wasn’t quite fulfilled, and he was tempted to take another one from the box. He used what self-control he had left, and managed not to. He told himself you would be very proud of him for that.
Adam had gotten up to fix himself some tea. He barely stood up when a wave of nausea consumed him. He sank back down onto the couch miserably. He didn’t feel great at all today. Maybe that was because he hadn’t eaten yet? It was one’o’clock and he woke up at ten. Why hadn’t he had breakfast yet? Oh that’s because he got in a conversation with you and then hadn’t wanted to leave. That was reasonable, right?
Adam got to his feet clumsily, and stumbled into the kitchen, where he tried to put together a sandwich. It worked, he guessed, and he sat down to eat his breakfast slash lunch.
What would that be called? He wondered. Brunch? It was getting hot in the apartment by the time he’d finished eating. The weather was hot outside during this august afternoon. Adam felt stable again, now that he’d eaten, but something was still off. He missed his partner, F/N L/N.
He popped open the windows to let out the smoke that was building inside.
Adam reluctantly started doing some tidying. His living quarters were always messy, and it irritated the hell out of you. He decided now would be a good time to clean it up.
But as he started to pick things up from the floor, the apartment door swung gently open. Adam let his belongings fall onto the coffee table once again, as he leapt up to greet you.
When he saw you his heart fluttered. Excitement and happiness rushed through him. He found new energy to be with you! “Y/N!” He exclaimed.
You came tripping into the room, carrying in your arms a large (favorite dessert.) Adam had never been so glad to see someone in his whole life. You plopped the dessert onto the counter, and twirled happily ‘round.
Adam watched you in satisfaction, his heart melting. He pulled you into a hug, pushing you right up against his chest, and allowing you to rest your head on his shoulders. He felt you giggle and it warmed him on the inside.
You beamed up at him, your eyes glowing in jubilation. “You missed me?”
Adam sighed. “You have no idea.”
You nuzzled Adam’s nose sweetly. “Want to try the dessert?”
Adam would have loved to, but you felt so good in his arms he hardly wanted to release you. “Sure.”
You detangled yourself from his grasp, and went over to the counter, getting ready to cut your dessert into slices.
Adam watched from afar, examining his significant other as they bent slightly over the counter. You had your butt your pointed out towards him and Adam took pleasure in studying it. You looked cute standing in that position. “Nice.” He told you frankly.
You were too intent on your task to even notice Adam’s comment. You simply straightened your back and glanced at him, a smile on your face. “Go grab some plates!”
Adam did as he was told, and then came up behind you. He wrapped an arm around your waist, and put two plates on the counter.
You shuffled closer to him, and Adam felt content to have you so close. You placed one slice of said dessert onto each of the plates, and then you started eating.
Adam had never tried this kind of dessert before he met you. But now it was a tradition to eat it together. He loved that.
The flavor was sweet and sugary, of course it was. It was your favorite dessert and that’s why Adam loved it, because it made him think of you.
You ate together in a peaceful silence until your plates were clean. Neither of you had even gone to the table to eat.
Adam rubbed your back with one hand. It was impossible to explain what he felt for you. He loved you so much, nothing would be able to express it. ‘I love you’ at this point was an understatement. But how else did one express their love to their significant other? Without words there would be no communication. This was the only way to tell you what he felt. He loved you, and that’s all there was. Love.
He turned you towards him, so that you were pressed against his chest once more. He put his chin on the top of your head. “I love you.”
A rush of adrenaline swarmed up you. You laced your hands with Adam. “No, I love YOU.”
Adam melted into you. You were so perfect! “Not nearly as much as I love you,” he murmured.
“You’re right,” you gave in disappointedly, but then shot back, “I love you MORE than that.”
You and Adam spun around the living room several times, and then you put on some classical music: slow and romantic, just right for the mood.
You both swayed to the rhythm, not really intending to be lazy, but not trying to be too energetic either.
Adam could feel your head on his shoulder, your hand in his hand, and an arm around his waist. Your body touching him was breathtaking. Adam was sure he would lose his mind from the close proximity.
“You’ve been smoking,” you uttered into the quietness. You were only concerned.
Adam stiffened. Would you care about that? “I’m sorry-” He started to say.
You interrupted him. “Don’t be sorry, Adam. You’re always sorry. Not everything’s your fault. What happened?”
“I got anxious about you,” Adam halfheartedly confessed.
You patted his head reassuringly. “Well, you shouldn’t have.”
“But I did.”
You kissed him on the cheek. “Alright then. It’s okay. How was the smoke?”
“Bad,” Adam grumbled. “I nearly died from it instead of trying to enjoy it.”
You smirked. “I’m glad you didn’t though. You know what would happen if you did?”
“No.”
You bent your eyebrows down and pouted your lower lip sadly. “I WOULD BE SAD!” You wailed.
Adam felt his heart skip a beat. “Oh no…” he mustered. “I don’t want that.”
“Nor do I,” you answered smartly. “But lucky for you, you don’t have to try very hard. You being around is all I need!”
Adam bit his bottom lip shyly. He could feel your words brush up his neck. Your words were just so warming and good to hear, he couldn’t get enough. He kissed you at that moment, lifting you off the floor and bringing you up to sit on his hips. You put your legs around his waist, and your arms around his neck.
Adam loved every moment of it. He loved feeling your skin on his skin, your mouth on his mouth, your body against his body, and your heat keeping him warm.
His heart was pounding, his stomach was churning, and adrenaline was pulsing through his veins. He broke away to give you some kisses down your jaws; they were quick and short.
You hummed out in satisfaction, and tilted your head back. Adam took advantage of this, and started kissing down your neck. He made sure to get your shoulders and collarbones.
“Adam…” you whispered at last, cupping his cheeks in your hands and lifting his head up. He looked at you like a lost puppy and it melted your heart. “You sweet thing.”
Adam let you down and you sighed out happily. “You’re cute,” Adam said cheesily.
You shrugged. “How else would you want me?”
“Laying on the bed would be a nice alternative, too,” Adam replied cleverly.
You gagged and looked away embarrassedly. “Oh yeah?”
“Definitely,” Adam assured you.
Adam sat down on the couch, and you sat next to him. You pulled him onto your lap, and started a long, enticing, snuggle session, where both of you spent the rest of the evening flirting, teasing, kissing, and of course expressing love to one another only in ways that words could never communicate.
Snow White Kisses - Adam Stanheight / Reader
A/N Been busy, but here’s a short story I managed to write up. Been in a writer's block as well, but please enjoy! Sorry for spelling/grammar mistakes, posting late.
Bright, sparkling, lights gave the room a silver tint. The table was a solid chestnut brown, and the walls and ceiling were creamy. There was only a soft, black, carpet for the flooring. Golden stars were plastered to the walls, as well as red and purple hearts. You leaned way back in the recliner, as the sun sprinkled down on your face. You sat next to the large window, overlooking the beach. The water was smooth today, and not many people were clustered down there. You would have been down there yourself if it wasn’t so cold. The sun soothed your spirits and warmed your skin, making you feel giddy and a little bit lightheaded. You were glad for the distraction.
Adam Faulkner Stanheight would have most definitely been snuggling with you, but he had gone to walk the dog. He’d be back in an hour. No, not even. Probably thirty minutes by now. You couldn’t wait for his return; you were lonely.
You rolled your head from side to side, taking in all the minor details that you hadn’t noticed before; you’d never been in a beach house before and you wanted to remember it. Long white curtains covered all the large, square, windows. They reached all the way to the floor elegantly, and flared out at the end. Paintings of sunsets and twilight scenery were spread throughout the building, covering every other wall majestically.
You felt a chill coming in through the window and stood up to close it, your thin blanket drifting from your fine shoulders, and settling around your feet, on the floor, prettily. You tripped delicately over the soft floor, your feet crossing the carpet swiftly.
Leaning into the misty cool air and allowing your vision to be engulfed by the white layer of snow, you stretched your arm out. It was slippery and chilly, it was almost like you could literally feel the silkworm cocoons. The silk touched your arm gracefully, and made your skin cold. You would have enjoyed the feeling of such silks better if it wasn’t so freezing outside.
In a haze of white, you reached for the window frame, and pulled your hand back again. Softness fell on your skin, and passed through your fingers gently, like wavy fiber. Some white got onto the floor, and you stepped back to examine the snow that was littering half of your living room.
You turned at the sound of a quiet click coming from the front door. Your boyfriend swept into the room swiftly, and the dog followed quickly. She ran up to you and tipped her head lovingly. You rubbed her head and rustled her ears, and then looked up at Adam.
Adam appeared exhausted and out of breath. He let out a long sigh and flopped onto the couch. Leaning back, Adam raised his arms up and rested his head on them. “God,” he mumbled. “The rain is coming down hard.”
You looked at him empathetically. “Did you get drenched?”
“Fortunately not for me,” Adam cast a disapproving glance at the dog. “I can’t say the same for Starshine.” He shuddered obviously.
Starshine gave a loud bark, as if she could understand, and proceeded to chase herself ‘round and ‘round.
The both of you ignored your dog and leaned in close to each other. “How was the walk?” You asked him softly.
Adam smiled happily. “Great! Really, even though it was raining. How was your morning?”
You liked the feeling of your boyfriend in your arms. You huddled closer to Adam. “Extraordinary. But not nearly ‘perfect’. You know what would make it better?”
Adam shook his head, nuzzling your cheek.
“You,” you whispered smoothly.
Adam scoffed at your words. “Oh please…” He was blushing brightly.
You dropped your mouth to his mouth. Your lips were nearly touching but not touching yet. “It’s true, baby. Nothing you can say will change it. You're the light of my life. That one piece of diamond among all the stones. I love you.”
Your breath passed over his lips lightly, making him even more crazy for you. You felt him put his hands up your shirt. You were okay with this, you loved the feeling of his soft skin on you.
“You happy?” You asked him.
“Mmhmm.” He nodded slowly, rubbing his nose up and down your cheek.
You smiled in satisfaction. Seeing Adam go all woozy for you was attractive. It made you feel powerful. It gave you energy.
You put one hand on his chest, and with the other hand you combed your fingers through his hair. Slowly, you pushed closer, kissing him neatly on the lips. It lasted for a moment, and then you pulled away again.
Adam didn’t look pleased. You only cupped his cheeks with both hands, and smiled at him proudly. “My baby,” you murmured.
Adam’s annoyance seemed to dissipate. He groaned a little desperately. “You make me feel so many things!”
You lowered your head down again, this time kissing him harder. You rubbed circles on his cheeks with your thumbs. You could feel Adam’s hands rising up your body.
Electricity pulsed between your mouths, making them tingle slightly. You couldn’t get enough of him!
Adam’s palms skimmed your belly. You took his lower lip in your mouth, and dropped your hands to his waist. You traced them down his thighs. Adam rocked his hips onto you.
You brought your hands up, smirking at him sympathetically. “Someone’s excited.” You observed seductively.
Faulkner let out a sigh. “I can be patient,” he promised insecurely.
You raised a skeptical eyebrow. “Let’s see. I think you’ve been too good for me to be patient.”
You kissed him down the neck, leaving soft traces of you on his skin. Your lips were like cotton candy, soft and sweet. Elegant in movement and graceful in technique. You were tangled up in each other’s hot passion.
You felt your boyfriend break away, gasping and heaving. He had on a look of bliss. You watched him blankly, though your thoughts were running wild and your emotions longed for more.
“Y/N,” Adam wheezed in between breaths. “You mean so much to me…”
You opened your mouth to reply when the sun came out from behind a cloud. It’s golden rays fell on to you, and warmed you all up.
You turned to look out the window, and sighed. “Mmmh, baby. The world is a scary place. I’m glad I’m getting to spend my life in such a safe place; with you.” You put your head on his shoulder. “I love you.”
Adam hugged you back tightly, squeezing all the air out of your lungs, resting his forehead on your collarbones, still breathing heavily, and making the atmosphere hot. “I love you, too,” he hummed out contentedly.
Perfectly.
Longingly.
Nothing was better than this.
Sexual Tension - Adam Stanheight / Reader
18+ HEAVY FLUFF
A/N This story is slightly more detailed in writing. I'm gonna put a warning just in case. Idk. Anyway, please enjoy the new story!
18+
Rainy days were the worst days, but sometimes they could be the best, too. Mostly, they were terrible and cold and wet and filthy, but today was an exception. You sat in front of the big cozy fireplace that was located at the center of the cafe. This place was special because you’d met Adam Faulkner Stanheight here for the very first time. It felt like such a long time ago now, but it had only been six months. You’d hit it off pretty well with the man, in fact it had become a weekly activity to meet at this place, after work, on Friday. Your time spent with Adam took your mind off the crappy weather outside. You loved that.
Stanheight came bouncing in through the glass, double doors, shaking his umbrella. He looked mostly dry… He’d warm up in no time standing by the fire. But you did feel bad for him, seeing as he had to walk most of the way in the rain. That was his choice, though. He didn’t want to take the bus, he preferred walking.
Adam saw you eyeing him from across the room. He folded his umbrella and struck a pose. You covered your mouth daintily with your hand, smiling a little bit in amusement. He crossed over to you and sat in front of the fire. “How’re you, lovely?” He winked.
You giggled, feeling shy and fuzzy at the same time. “I’m good. How are you, Adam?”
“Swell,” He said smugly. “But I’m much better when I’m with you.”
You blushed brightly, and glanced away from his eyes. You got all fidgety when Adam was around. “That’s so nice of you.”
“Is it?” Adam asked, as he leaned back against the couch, and looked at you. He gestured you over with his hand. “Come here, darling. What are you doing by yourself?”
You crawled over him and laid down with your head in his lap. You felt warm and content. Your heart was like a panicked butterfly in a cage, slamming its wings painfully into the bars, trying to burst free. It made you dizzy, but you held on to sanity for just a little longer. You breathed steadily, keeping your nerves calm, forcing yourself not to dive out of the pressuring moment. You felt good. “You’re so warm, Adam,” you said softly.
Adam looked down at you lovingly, a small smile on his lips. “So are you. You’ve been sitting by the fire for a while, haven’t you?”
You nodded, your hair poofing itself around your head at the motion. Adam stroked his fingers through your hair compassionately. “Mmh, you’re pretty, do you know that?”
Surprised, you met his gaze. From this angle the overhead light cast a shadow on Adam’s face. For him, the overhead light cast a glow to your face. Shadows surrounded your face, corrupting your hair and neck. “Thank you. You’re too.”
“Not nearly as good looking as you.”
You sat up finally, your throat feeling dry. “Hey… Um… I’m going to get something to drink. You want something?”
Adam considered you for a short minute, then said, “I guess I could use a glass of water; I haven’t had anything to drink since this morning. But just so you know, there’s something else I’d rather have in my mouth right now.”
“W-What would that be?” You asked dumbly, you wanted to make sure you understood correctly. Adam only tilted his head up at you in reply, but said nothing else. “I’ll just get you that water…” you decided nervously.
Adam watched you leave while a wry smile crept up on his face. He’d just take this moment to check you out. Your body was stunning.
Coming up to the counter, you ordered two waters. Now that you weren’t so close to your love interest, you were able to think clearly again. The brain fog was lifting like a cloud after a thunderstorm. Sun was shining through now, making it easier to see.
“Y/N! Y/N! Will you please move forward? You’re blocking the line!”
You shook yourself out of your trance, and looked around frantically. The barista was glaring at you over his glasses. You hurried out of the way to grab your orders, apologizing repeatedly. You felt awkward now. You headed back towards Adam hesitantly. While you did enjoy spending time with him, it took up a lot of your social battery and made it difficult to keep up. But… in all honesty, you needed this. Adam made you feel an assortment of good things, you didn’t really want to leave yet.
You placed one of the glasses down on the end table for Adam, and then you started to gulp the water from your own glass. The coolness trickled down your throat and helped you to regain yourself. You set the glass down hard on the table, half of the water gone from your glass already.
Adam raised his eyebrows, seemingly impressed. “Better?” He inquired.
“Yeah…” you admitted self-consciously.
“I believe it,” Adam murmured in awe, and then he stood up. He cupped your cheeks suddenly with both hands, making you squirm. He pressed his body against yours. “Remember when I said you were pretty?” He lowered his head to yours slowly.
You tilted your head to the side. “Y-Yeah?” Your voice wavered a little. The close proximity made your heart stutter. Your breath sounded too loud in your head.
“Well, I think I was wrong…” He said casually. His lips were almost touching yours now. “You’re gorgeous.”
You squealed audibly. It was an accident, but Adam’s words made you woozy. So much so in fact that you couldn’t hide it. “Oh wow…” You breathed out. “W-What do I even say t-to that?”
“You don’t have to say anything, darling.” His hands trailed down your neck so lightly it left tingles on your skin. They went past your collarbones, past your chest and over your diaphragm. You were forced to lean into him because your back and knees felt weak. He had never done anything like THIS before. What was he doing? Where was this leading to? Somehow you wanted more though. Lucky for you, this wasn’t about to be ending soon.
“Woah? You like that?” He whispered into your ear.
You shivered against him. “Oh yeah.”
“Nice.” Adam began to bring his hands back up, only this time he went under your shirt. His hands skimmed your stomach and some of your more sensitive parts as well. You buried your face into his shoulder, letting out a couple of moans. His shirt was soft and silky on your face.
“Which do you prefer?” He asked, sliding his hands back out. Your skin felt cold and empty where he had been touching you. You pulled back, trying to bring yourself back to the present. “Hands under or over?” Adam lifted your chin up with his pointer finger. You gazed at him like a lost puppy.
At your silence, Adam dropped his head down and pressed his lips to yours. You were stunned. It was the most beautiful thing you’d ever experienced in your entire life. It was like flying. It felt like wind in your mind, easing you, gratifying you, wooing you.
And damn, did Adam Faulkner know what he was doing. It was impossible something so good could exist. The way he bit your lip. The way he let his mouth wander. The way he kept pushing harder on your lips. It was dizzying.
Adam sank down on the couch again, keeping his mouth on yours. He pulled you after him. You straddled him and wrapped your arms around his neck. Adam let his hands explore the lower half of your body. You shuttered at the teasing sensations.
You were a mess by the time Adam withdrew. You gasped into his mouth desperately, your mind racing. You could hardly think! All you were aware of were the trembling in your lips and the stress building in your body.
Holy shit! Call that sexual tension!
You leaned against Adam, trying to get in some relaxation because you were worn out. It amazed you how something so idle could make you feel so out of energy. But damn it was definitely worth it. Adam pinned you against his chest, murmuring quietly in your ear. “That was fun… Maybe we should do it more?”
You hadn’t realized till now just how much you TRULY liked this man. You nodded your head slowly, breathing in Adam’s scent. “Perhaps,” you whispered.
“ ‘Perhaps’? Why be so vague? Do you or don’t you want me?”
“I do!” You exclaimed. “I never knew I could feel so many things for one person.”
“Welcome to the club,” Adam replied heartwarmingly.
You looked up at him once you got your strength again. His brown eyes were so perfect. It was like they glowed in the dimness. They shone with fondness as he gazed down at you. Something inside your heart felt whole. You didn’t quite know how to explain it… Or did you?
That feeling of wholeness, it was like you had been without it for a long time. Like a dusty glass being taken down from the shelf after a long hibernation. For once, it was being filled again with something warm and enjoyable… something called LOVE…
You stared into each other’s eyes for a few minutes, until you remembered your dog/cat at home. Immediately you scanned the room for some kind of clock. There, above the menu! Eight fifteen P.M.
You fumbled in your pockets for your phone, when Adam put his hands on yours. “Are you okay?”
You kept your gaze on your lap, for the fear of being captivated by him once again. “Oh, yes. I’m alright. I just remembered that I have to feed my pet! Sometimes they like to go outside, but if they do, then I always go with them.”
“We stayed longer, didn’t we?” Adam asked you.
“Y-Yeah…” You murmured. “Quite. But I enjoyed it!”
So did I.”
“Want to meet up again next week?”
“Why even ask at this point?” Adam wondered casually. “We both know we’re going to be coming back here next week.”
You blushed. “Yeah. You’re right…”
Adam clasped your hands in his. His palms were soft and smooth. He leaned his head in towards yours again. In a lustful bliss, Adam began kissing you again. His hands skimmed up your body.
We’re kissing again! The thought ran through your mind so fast you could barely comprehend it. Oh my god, what do I do? I can’t get caught up but… It’s so good!
Adam pulled away slightly so you could get some air. Only one gasp, then his lips were at it again. Time was ticking away, and you could practically hear it.
Eight eighteen.
More kissing and grabbing.
Eight nineteen.
Air.
Eight twenty.
Kissing.
Eight twenty one.
Hands in hair.
Eight twenty two.
Eight twenty three.
Eight twenty four.
Eight twenty five.
And then… finally, it was eight thirty.
After another, impassioned kissing session, you broke away at last. Your head was foggy and hot. You stumbled back. Swallowing nervously, you said, “I’d say that’s a goodbye kiss, for sure.”
“It doesn’t have to be…” Adam murmured in your ear.
You shivered. “What do you have in mind?”
“We know each other well enough. Would you let me stay the night?”
You stared up at him in awe. “S-Stay with me?”
“Why not? You said you have to take care of your pets. So let’s go.”
You led Adam out of the cafe, suddenly realizing the… problem you had going on ‘downstairs’
Oh, shit… you thought to yourself miserably. What am I going to do about THAT!? Fuck, I don’t even have a place for Adam-
A sense of awareness came over you, and you looked back at Adam, as you sat down in the car. Stanheight was sitting next to you in the passenger’s seat. He had invited himself over not to stay the night… He wanted to FUCK you. Why the hell hadn’t you seen it from the beginning? Were you really that deceived?
You grit your teeth. How were you supposed to drive with THAT idea clouding your mind? Grunting, you turned the ignition and started on your way home. You were excited to show Adam your place, if you were being entirely honest. And maybe your ‘places’, too... if you know what I mean?
You wondered what Adam would do first when you got to your apartment. Would he let you feed the dog/cat first or was he going to bang you first? Which one was more important? Would he take you to the bedroom, or was the couch good enough? The more you thought about it, the more excited you became, and it took all your strength to NOT think about it at all. But you were a mess by then and you could barely wait any longer. Well, lucky for you, home wasn’t very far away.
And neither were tonight’s plans.
Toxic; I'll Love You Anyway - Adam Stanheight/Reader
A/N Melanie Martinez’s unreleased song - Ring Pop - gave me some serious toxic vibes. And I imagined a new kind of look for Adam. But don’t worry, I’ll stick to the fluff’s from now on…
.
You felt the cold seep into your skin. It was quiet tonight, and lonely. You wanted the company again, but you knew that it wasn’t the same - not anymore. You missed the old times, back when everything was right. You had cried yourself to sleep several nights now. In all honesty, this was your life for two years. You didn’t know why you couldn't shake it? Perhaps it was all because you were still haunted by the memories, after all you were still LIVING there.
Your thumb traced over the gift. It was sticky, and smelled like cherries. “I love you,” you whispered, as you stroked the ring pop once more. You didn’t even care that it was making your hands filthy. You would be better once your partner came back - and you knew he would be here very soon. Just a little longer. He had to finish all his work…
But the sight of the other woman’s panites still lingered in your mind, and scarred you. You didn’t want to think about it too much, however it was so daunting. What was with the unfamiliar undergarments? You let out a deep breath into the silent atmosphere, feeling sad. Were you not… good enough for him, anymore?
What was he doing at this moment, you wondered. Was he ACTUALLY doing his work or did just tell you that to make you feel better? You missed Adam Stanheight. Where was he now? You felt like you couldn’t live without him, all you wanted was to feel his embrace again. To kiss him again. Where was he?
Baby, will you be here soon?
“Baddum… a new ring pop…Baddum, a new ring pop…” You murmured to yourself repeatedly. You sank down into the couch when finally a large, white, pool of luminescence portrayed itself on the dark ground, illuminating the room dimly and showcasing the slight silhouette of somebody standing in the doorway. You knew who it was then, and your heart leapt into your throat. It was like finally shooting up after days and days of being away. You ran to him.
Adam greeted you with open arms, as usual. He scooped you up and twirled you once around the room. “Waiting for me in the dark again, I see? What’s with this sudden change of habit?”
You didn’t answer, you just hugged him close. “I love you…”
Adam chuckled. “I love you, too.” It sounded forced, and he pushed past you hastily.
“Adam,” you called. “Why are you home so late? What happened at work? Do I get to know?”
“No.” Adam’s voice echoed strictly through the kitchen and into the living room.
You hung your head disappointedly. “Oh… okay…”
Following him into the kitchen you found him leaning on the counter, attempting to light a cigarette. His hands were trembling too much to keep the lighter down, not to mention his cigarette kept nearly falling from his fingers each time he tried. You stepped up to him so that your bodies were touching, and took both from him. He watched miserably while you steadily held the flame to the cigarette and then let it ignite.
You turned your hand out to him, offering the cigarette back. He lifted your hand up, and closed his lips around the cigarette. Keeping eye contact with you, he took a deep breath in. Immediately upon inhalation Adam’s entire demeanor seemed to change. He seemed slightly more like himself again. You were glad to see him relaxing. “Stressful workday?” You asked him.
“Mmhmm,” Adam mumbled, and nodded.
You stroked a hand through his hair. “I’m so sorry, baby. Is there anything I can do?”
“No.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
Adam’s short responses made you feel unappreciated. You were trying your hardest, but why didn’t he want anything to do with you? Why did he always come back to you? “Are you okay?”
“Yes.”
“Are you staying tonight?”
“Yes.”
Your heart jumped, and you looked excitedly into Adam’s eyes. “Really!?”
“Mhm.”
You flung your arms around his shoulders. “Oh yes! Thank you! I love you so much!”
Adam sighed, and nuzzled your forehead. “What are you still doing up? You know it’s late, you should have been asleep a long time ago.”
You shivered at his stern tone. “Y-Yeah… Well, I was waiting for you… Like I always do…”
“Why don’t you get ready for bed? I’ll be right there.”
“What? But you’re staying HERE tonight! We should do something fun! Right? Don’t you wanna have a good time while you’re here with me? Remember when we used to stay up ‘till three watching comedies?”
“Y/N…” Adam whispered gravely. He wasn’t looking at you.
Your heart broke. “You don’t want to do that?”
Adam thought carefully, before saying, “I think we’ve moved on from those days.”
Your heart plummeted to earth, your hopes and dreams falling apart right in front of your eyes. You were devastated, tragic. Frantically, you pressed up against Adam, your hands roaming his body and your noses touching. “But… We can stay up… watch adult cartoons?” Then you asked a little more sexily, “Will you blow up the big balloons/balloon? So big that they all go… pop?”
Adam pulled his head back for another quick drag on his cigarette, but he returned it to its close proximity afterwards. “Y/N…”
“Dress up in each other’s clothes?” you continued desperately. “Dance in the dark to jazz? Have bubblegum at midnight? Get tipsy? Turn off the lights and kiss in the corner? Promise…”
Adam leaned his head forward, and he did kiss you. His lips were so wild it drove you mad. You gasped as he got a little… vulgar… You hadn’t kissed him in so long. It felt like forever ago. It was so good, too. You groaned against his lips.
He pushed away from the counter, and guided you backwards across the kitchen. Adam’s mouth left a slimy trail from your lips to your ear. Your socks slipped on the wood floor as you moved back. A couple of random items littered the floor and your feet skidded into them; the feeling of metal and sharp pins stabbed into the bottom of your right foot. You flinched, but kept moving. You rarely ever got Adam like this anymore, you weren’t going to put a stop to it. You closed your eyes as your back pressed onto the cool, sleek, wall.
It was like water on your lips, engulfing your mouth and taking you under again. Your mind was completely still and silent, peaceful and whole, while your surroundings gave you blackness and quietness. And then, just like a ripple coming through, the water surged upward. The wild waves spilled down your cheeks and neck, and got into your mouth; it was your shore. The feelings made you weak.
Adam pushed you further up the wall, making you squeal audibly. He felt out the layout of his partner’s body. You resurfaced, gasping, panting, in dire need of breath. The repetition played before you like a film that was set to loop; no end seemed to ever come of that ocean. You greeted his waves with your own, each time being more eager than that of the last. You were so deeply in love. Fuck…
Adam had started kissing your chest, and both his hands were pushing your head into the wall, so that it was angled up towards the ceiling. You could feel him making his way further and further down, his lips soft as silks. Down, down, down.
Oh what a wonderful feeling.
And then, as Adam neared your waist, he looked up at you, for the first time taking his mouth off your skin. You shivered at the cold spot on your stomach where his lips had been. You returned his gaze. “What’s the matter?” You wondered.
“I love you.” Adam examined your face for a short moment.
Your heart fluttered dramatically. You loved hearing him say that. “I… I love you, too.”
“But I need you to go upstairs for a little bit, okay? I have… things to take care of…”
“Like what?” You asked seductively. “Anything I can help with?” You put a strong emphasis on ‘I’.
“Y/N,” he said seriously.
“I wish you would trust me to tell me what’s going on.”
“I’m just… cleaning up a little bit…”
He means taking care of the mess he made with the other person downstairs…
“Right,” you said dubiously, and trailed off. There was more you wanted to say but you were… not sure how your questions would affect you later so you just turned around and climbed the stairs.
In the bedroom, you switched the light on, and proceeded to get ready for bed. As you displayed yourself majestically on the bed, hoping to get a good reaction from Adam when he joined you, you thought about some things.
It dampened your mood, unfortunately, but you did wonder about Adam’s loyalty. What the hell was the relationship you had with him? It was like you didn’t exist. You were only there for him when he needed you. You wanted Adam’s love again.
Adam smiled at you when he saw the sight waiting for him. “Well, Y/N. What have we here? Is someone asking for something?”
You would have looked excitedly into his eyes, if you weren’t feeling so somber at the moment. You kept your gaze cast down. “Why do you sleep with other people?” You asked him bluntly, your heart beating loudly, shaking you like an earthquake shakes the earth.
“It’s nothing personal, you know,” he said.
“Then why do you fuck them and not me?” You demanded.
Adam sighed. “You’re my love, Y/N, you know.” His tone was dull and he didn’t meet your gaze. He let his hand fall to yours, and swiftly he removed the pretty, sticky, ring pop from your finger. He discarded it into the wastebasket beside the bed, and then fumbled in the bedside table. He replaced the old one with a new one, and then proceeded to kiss your lips. “You’re always my VIP.”
You looked at the ring pop on your finger again halfheartedly, starting to feel better again. “Really?”
Adam nodded briefly. “Of course.”
“Promise to play house with me forever…”
Adam only watched you disdainfully. “Just relax. You know I have to go back out in the morning.”
Your heart was torn out again. Oh yeah… That’s right… he doesn’t give a fuck about me…
“I love you,” you whispered.
“You, too,” he replied unenthusiastically. “Just remember the ring pop, Y/N. You can never leave me. You won’t.”
You sighed and sank down into the mattress. That ring pop. Oh, that damned, fucking ring pop! How much importance it held. The very meaning of its purpose! It was almost like a marking; an unbreakable bond that was signed off at marriage. It kept you here, trapped you here; a rope of captivity tying you to him for eternity. There was no escaping this… but did you even want to? Something about the way the sharp splinters cut into your skin made you want to tie the knot tighter.
But you knew Adam didn’t love you. Not really at least. Maybe there were times when he returned and he DID remember what he fell in love with, but that part of him was gone. Had been for a long time now. Ever since he married you. Ever since you gave him all your money. But he HAD loved you once upon a time. He HAD cared. He HAD wanted you. And it broke your heart to see it all gone now.
Is this unhealthy? You wondered. Should I leave? Do I want to? You stared up at Adam and the answer came to you instantly. That miserable look in his eyes. He DID need you, just as you needed him. You both were tethered to each other, simply by one existing element: a lonely ring pop that destroyed all of the current reality. You longed for Adam’s love, and somewhere Adam longed for something from you as well, whatever that might be. And together the two combined to make a perfect match out of a million little flaws.
You wondered about Adam, as well. Was he the same person as before? It didn’t really appear like it. Sometimes instead of tying YOU up, the prickly rope tied around ADAM, and he forgot what he was doing. Got confused and disoriented. Got consumed in his lie.
Was he going to come back to you one day? Was he going to come back to his senses? Did he want that? Did YOU want that?
As much as you hated it, you did know the reason for his infidelity. He was lost. He didn't know what he wanted. He got his money, then lost himself. He was looking for something in them. But he held on to you because... well, you were natural.
Normal.
Everything he needed.
That was why he kept coming back. That was why he stayed. And that was why he left.
“What’s the matter?” Adam whispered in your ear softly. “Usually you're squirming by this time.” His voice was low and ominous.
In a rush, the world came crashing down on top of you. White noise filled your ears and darkness consumed your vision. You gasped. Adam was touching on you inappropriately in between the legs, and sending kisses down your jaw. You groaned and rocked your hips into his palm. “A-Adam. Hi. Yes. I-I’m with you.”
“Better be,” Adam mumbled. “Don't leave me like that again.”
You sighed. “I’m sorry.”
“Y/N, I love you.” Adam’s voice softened and an ounce of actuality crept into it.
You inhaled sharply. Sometimes you could still hear HIM in his voice. Maybe Adam COULD come back? Maybe, just maybe, he would want to?
“And I love you, Adam…”
Always.

A/N I’m sorry for the sad story. Also, I love how this one turned out. It bleeds tragedy and heartbreak. It’s everything that I dream about writing one day, (not to mention I actually worked really hard to paint the exact picture I had in my mind.) so I'd love it if people would drop a like to let me know what they thought. Thanks so much for the support. I don’t express it but I do appreciate all of you!

Don't Let Me Go - Adam Stanheight / Reader
This one is inspired by Selena Gomez's song, Slow Down.
.
In a blaze of neon laser-lights and dazzling sparkles you found yourself in a loud, crowded, nightclub. The beat of the music above blended into the walls and floor. Your eyes followed all the shining, glittering, flashing lights that pounced across the dance floor. Your mouth felt dry and your mind felt fuzzy, your chest was tight and your eyes were stinging. Something about this made you excited. You waded through the sweaty river of people. You deliberately passed the bar; you’d come by yourself and needed a clear head to drive.
You maneuvered around the place slowly, taking in the scenery, the scents, and the activity. In all four of the corners were two or more young drug addicts shooting up or vaping. Noises were coming from the closets; either loud thudding or desperate moaning - of the two you didn’t know which was better. It smelled like canned beer, and burnt cigarettes.
You scanned the crowd for someone as you went. You didn’t know who you were looking for, just anyone at this point. You were single, but it had been a long time since your last relationship - three years perhaps? You wanted to try again, but you didn’t know how. Maybe trying a nightclub wasn’t the way to go? There WERE a lot of people here, though… so that was good. Maybe you’d find someone after all?
You spotted a young man leaning against one of the walls, his head back, hands in his pockets, and a cigarette propped up in his mouth. He seemed to be enjoying the solitude, however you wondered if he’d be bothered by you, if you approached. You couldn’t help noticing the way his white shirt hung on his body. Maybe you’d just found a target of interest?
You approached him nervously, keeping your eyes on the floor. “Hello, sir?” You asked quietly. “You look lovely tonight. Are you with anyone?”
He opened his eyelids slightly, to look down at you from an angle. “Who’s asking?”
You shifted your feet, and looked at him. “I am.”
The man straightened his back and looked at you properly. You felt his eyes scan up and down your sides. “Oh…” he breathed. “No, I’m here by myself.”
You raised your eyebrows and gazed up at him. “Really?”
“Really. Now what’s this about? Obviously you didn’t walk up to introduce yourself.”
You stretched your hand out to him. “F/N L/N!” You stated promptly. “But no, you’re right. There was more than that. I was looking for a friend tonight, and you seemed nice.”
The young man smiled back at you. “I’d be damned if I was anything but. Nice to meet you, Y/N. I’m Adam.” He adjusted his shirt with a quick jerk of his wrist. “Adam Stanheight. Faulkner Stanheight, if you want to get fancy.” He leaned down so that his face was inches away from yours.
You smiled shyly. “Mind if I keep you company this late night?”
“How can I turn down such a pretty person? Please, I’d love you to.”
You chuckled nervously and leaned up against the wall. It was a little quieter over here despite being surrounded by blasting music. You were content. “So, what’s a handsome fella like you, doing at a nightclub all by himself?”
Adam smirked around his cigarette. “Enjoying a good ol’ smoke. That’s why I’m here.”
“Oh, really? It’s a passtime to smoke in nightclubs?” You asked sarcastically.
“Maybe find a nice chick… or fella…” He turned to face you again. “Especially ones with a little sense of humor.” He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
You giggled self-consciously. “Oh… why thank you…”
“Now you answer. Why are YOU all by yourself?”
You sighed, and looked past Adam out the window. It was dark out there, not even a street lamp was on. You couldn’t see anything except for the navy blue, pitch black, sky. It looked dismal. Earnestly, you told him the truth. “I don’t know. I guess I thought it was a good time to try again. I haven’t… been like this for three years.”
Adam pushed himself closer to you, seemingly intrigued by your story. He put out his cigarette and tossed it into the nearest ashtray, all while keeping his eyes fixed on you. “So, you chose to have a conversation with me?”
“Uh…” you shrugged. “Yeah. I’m not looking for anything right now, only a friend. I was planning to just… let the friendship evolve and see where it takes me.”
Adam moved even closer. You could feel his warm breath on your lips. “I would be honored to help you rediscover what love is like…”
You felt chills run up your spine, and you gazed into this man’s brown eyes. “You… You’re really that fond of me?”
“I can’t help it.” He grinned at you. “I’m sucked in by your charm.”
Your face went bright red. You felt hot suddenly. Having such a cute man tell you that you looked good made you feel confident, but also made you feel awkward. You laughed nervously.
Adam tousled your hair. “I like your voice,” he said seriously.
You kept your eyes on the floor. “Thanks…”
Adam stepped closer to you. It amazed you that neither of you were physically touching at this point. He brushed his fingers through your hair with one hand and with the other he cupped your cheek. He came even closer.
Now you were touching. His chest was slightly pressing on yours and your legs were starting to get tangled together. You looked up. His eyes were right there! Everything was so close to you, it made you dizzy.
“Woah… hi…” you whispered.
“Hi…” Adam whispered back.
You stayed like that for several minutes. Adam slowly kept getting closer and closer to you until finally he had you in an embrace so loving and affectionate that you couldn’t believe you were you. You felt like someone else, then you realized this was happening. You snuggled closer to him, your head on his chest, his arms around your body, and his right leg holding you up. You were warm, and happy. This was the best time of your life. You closed your eyes.
In the blissful moment of relaxation you were taken aback by the sudden pressure being added to your fragile lips. It was a slow and gentle brushing on your mouth. You moaned out loud in surprise and leaned away from Adam, thus breaking apart from his kiss.
Gazing up at the man in awe, you realized how close you were standing to him. Your head got foggy and your hands got sweaty. You turned away from him. Adam seemed to realize his mistake. “Was… that too soon? I’m so sorry, I don’t know what came over me.”
But you were perfectly fine. You couldn’t even believe what had just happened. “It was wonderful!” You exclaimed.
“You looked so… pure… I couldn’t resist.”
You nodded in understanding, and turned back to Adam. Confidence was rising inside you steadily and you kissed him again, swifty, lustfully. Adam took his hands in yours and leaned even closer - if that was even possible. You sighed into his mouth a couple of times out of desperation. “I haven’t felt another’s lips in so long.”
“I’m glad I could be the one to fix that,” Adam whispered in your ear seductively.
You shivered at his words. “Thank you. You’re really good at it.”
“Is there anything ELSE I could help you with?” He gave you a wink.
You shook your head. “N-Not yet…”
“I can change that, if you’d like?”
“Oh…” You blushed. “No thank you. Not yet, at least.”
“Sure,” Adam leaned back against the wall, his arms over his chest once again. “You’re really too pretty to be all alone like this,” he said.
“I’d say the same about you,” you replied cheesily.
Adam stepped away from the wall, and held his hand out to you. “Care to dance, Y/N? It’s been kind of a quiet night. Why not add some cream to our coffee, yeah?”
You giggled shyly at his analogy, and took his hand. You let him take you to the dance floor, where he pulled you close, super close - like so close that your lips were almost touching one another’s - and began to guide you into a waltz. He moved forward, you moved back. You put your head on his shoulder, and reveled in his smoky scent.
You went around once, then twice, then three times, then four times. All sense of time went out the window. You just kept moving. Your bodies were so close. All you wanted was to feel his body right next to yours… all night long…
It was too soon to be thinking like that, and you knew it. You discarded the thought immediately. But your movements were slow, like you were in a time lapse of zero-point-twenty-five; a slowed version of the song playing above. Your breath was loud, your heart was heavy, your vision was dark.
Five times around now.
You just wouldn’t stop. You couldn’t. Neither of you. It was like you were stuck on repeat. Rewinding everytime it was getting close to the end. You didn’t want it to change. You were happy. It had been so long since you’d felt arms around you.
Felt your heart beat like it was lovesick.
Felt your stomach doing butterflies.
Felt someone else’s body heat.
Felt someone else’s heartbeat.
Felt a closeness to someone you’d never met before.
Felt like someone loved you.
You hugged Adam at last, still moving in a waltz, but no longer keeping up the position.
Six, seven, eight, nine, times around.
Damn, this was too good for you. You didn’t deserve this, did you? You only met this guy right now. You knew nothing about him yet. But that’s what second dates were for, right?
You were in denial. You wanted to love again, but you were scared. You felt like it was too soon. How had you found the perfect guy by accident, your first time in three years? Were you just that lucky, or was he not what he said he was? Or was your fate just perfect?
Fuck. You were indeed in love. And there was nothing you could do about it.
Adam pulled his fingers through your hair slowly, and you breathed in carefully, allowing your mind to relax. What the fuck were you doing, letting yourself loose like this with someone you didn’t know? Another deep breath, and yet another spin around. You’d lost track at this point. Was it eleven or twelve? You breathed in again, and you could hear Adam’s rhythmic breathing slow to match up with yours.
In together, out together. In together, out together.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
Again and again, again and again.
Around, around, around.
The only thing that told you the laser-lights were flashing were the red and orange stripes flickering across your closed eyelids. Your movements were starting to waver, so were Adam’s. You danced until, finally, you both came to a stop. You raised your head up searchingly. “What’s wrong?” You asked it like you’d known this man for years.
He answered it like he’d known you for years. “Thought… It was getting late. You need a ride home? I can take you.”
“No,” you said instantly. “I… shouldn’t…”
“You’re right. Let me call you an uber. I’ll pay.”
“No.” you leaned into him, pushing him back. “It’s getting closer to the end, hit rewind…” You mumbled inaudibly.
“Hmm?” Adam asked quietly.
“Let’s keep going.” You insisted, turning again. This made thirteen. “I’m not ready to leave yet.”
Adam smiled into your hair, and started again. “Okay. We can stay for as long as you want. I guess I don’t really have anywhere to be tomorrow.”
“Good,” you whispered as you started waltzing around the dance floor once more. It was quiet as the night dragged on, and a cool breeze started to blow in through the open window, but for you the night would never end. You wouldn’t have it any other way. You were just happy that you’d found someone to spend a little time with.
You were able to get away from your dreary life at home and open up to someone. To talk with someone. To feel someone. Finally, you were getting on with your life. You were so relieved to be passing this blockage.
You pressed your cheek against Adam’s chest, turned your nose up, smiled, emotion so strong within you, your mind was numb. In a haze of satisfaction, you raised your head, your vision blurring from the neon lights. Adam’s face was darkened, but even so there was still kindness showing in his eyes. His lips were just within eye level, making it difficult to concentrate on anything else. You parted your lips slightly, almost hesitantly, then put your mouth on his, stretching up on your toes to reach better.
The dopamine rush engulfed you; clouds departing to reveal the sun after a rainy day. You gasped, your mind spun, Adam kissed you back. The warm flavor was like rosy, poofy, wedding cake. The way in which it filled your mouth so silkily was fascinating, and how the supply was just endless. You would never run out of anything here. Not from a source as strong as this! And, with this in mind, you dove in deeper, all with the intent of keeping Adam Stanheight from going home.
It worked. Of course it did.

You were at it again, the both of you, hugging close to one another after breakfast like it was the last time you would ever get to see each other. Adam Stanheight’s body heat was practically lulling you to sleep, but you didn’t want to leave him yet; you were so perfect in this moment and you didn’t want it to end. It was long stares and alluring exchanges like these that got you giddy and fuzzy. Fires sparked along your skin wherever he touched you, making you sizzle with the friction.
Adam’s brown eyes were so easy to get lost in, all you had to do was glance at them and you would be drowning in the depths of that iris; examining every little detail and taking in all the experiences they’d been through. You would never get tired of swimming there, floundering there. And Adam stared directly back into your eyes, the ripe color of them so mesmerizing; he’d never get tired of this.
Your chests rose and fell together with every careful breath that each of you took. The fear of being lost, if only you were to break the cycle of your breathing, kept you from disrupting the pattern that you had created. Even though there was no threat, it was a mere superstition that you both shared. You had to breathe together, as one.
It was just so… breathtaking… you could say - how so many feelings could pulse through you at once; you were addicted. Once the corrupted air from Adam’s lungs entered yours, it was just like… a souvenir almost; one you didn’t want to get rid of.
Each breath, and brush of skin, made you numb, gave you goosebumps. You’d always feel it in the same place. Sometimes it would be on your arms, but mostly it was up your spine. Starting from your head all the way down to your feet. It was so strong sometimes you felt incapacitated. You loved that feeling.
And it didn’t have to be cold in the room for you to feel that. Right now, it was ninety degrees Fahrenheit, and for some reason you had the heat running, but nevertheless, those chills came and went like it was the middle of December in a hail storm straight from the North Pole. Up and down, and up and down, those chills wouldn’t give you a break.
Adam’s lips were planted on yours strongly, dragging you into a lapse of kissing that kept going. His mouth felt all over yours and finding new places to explore. He tilted your head back so it was resting up on the wall. The pressure of his lips on yours was so levitating, like lifting you away from your fears and into a world where only good things existed. The rush was so energizing and exciting, you could barely even move or speak.
Adam lifted you up so that you were sitting on his hips, back against the wall, and arms around his neck. Faulkner pushed you closer to the cool wall. It made you shiver but you were too engulfed by the feelings on your lips to care.
There was a nasty smell of burning trash wafting in from the window, and the noisy traffic cluttered your hearing with nothing else. Outside it was bright and beautiful, the sky was clear with puffy clouds drifting across. The streets had a shine from the recent rain. The air was fresh and invigorating.
Inside, it smelled musty and dusty, like someone had just swept and the gunk was floating in the atmosphere. You and Adam had several steampunk objects lying around the house. The steampunk dragonfly was a wedding gift, but afterwards you’d become addicted. Now you had a collection. It only had fifteen items but it was a work in progress.
You felt the gentle, warm, tug of Adam’s lips slip out of your plump, sensitive ones. You moaned and opened your eyes to look at him. “Adam…” you gurgled unintelligently.
Adam was gasping from the fast set pace he had been kissing you at. “Sheesh. I didn’t know I could kiss you like that.”
“I didn’t either,” you muttered. “So why did you stop?”
“Sorry,” Adam apologized. “You know… Oxygen…”
You nodded, a smile on your face. “Right,” you whispered, and then allowed Adam to catch his breath. You leaned forward so that your chest was resting on Adam’s shoulder. You kept your head up and looked out the window, feeling the rise and fall of your boyfriend’s chest. You could hear the low breath in your ear.
Letting your mind go numb, you closed your eyes, and took in the smokey smell of Adam’s clothes. You bit your lower lip tiredly, relaxation filling your body like warm liquid. “I love you,” Adam said.
You snuggled closer, and wrapped your legs tighter around Adam’s waist. “I love you, too.”
Adam pushed you back against the wall, and started another make-out session. Adam’s hands rose up your shirt and you moaned out his name. He traced your stomach and your chest, slid up towards your collar bones and chin. You melted against his soft touch. You locked eyes with him, losing yourself in a daze.
“Adam…”
“Is that all you know how to say?” Adam asked you.
You nodded. “Yeah. The only language I can speak. I call it… Lovesick Language.”
“I like that language. I think I speak it well, too, Y/N.”
“Mmmh. Adam…”
Adam smiled in amusement, and then kissed you again, lighter and gentler. “You’re so precious,” he said softly. He caressed your cheek and slid his thumb over your jaw. “My everything.”
You leaned your cheek into his palm. “Oh, Adam… You’re so good to me.”
“You think so?”
“Mmhmm.” You murmured happily, a contented look on your face.
Adam chuckled. “I’d hope so. I try very hard to take care of you.”
You nuzzled his cheek and took in a deep breath, your heart swelling with affection. “And I you, baby.”
Adam kissed you again, and your breath was taken away again. He lifted you from the wall and you hugged him tighter. Stanheight spun around a couple of times, looking up at you playfully. He headed to the bedroom, holding you close so as to not run you into anything. You enjoyed the ride. “You’ve been so good,” he muttered alluringly in your ear.
You shuddered at his words. “I try my best…”
“So, so, so, good, baby,” Adam insisted.
You hummed out, feeling a little bit… excited… You moaned out a little too enticingly. “What are you planning?”
Adam dropped you suddenly, and you were airborne for a few seconds, before landing on the fluffy mattress of the bed. Adam leaned over you, his hands on either side of your head. He grinned at you proudly, and straddled your hips. “Hi my beautiful.”
You blushed. “Hi…” You murmured with a shy smile.
“Don’t look at me like that… You know I can’t resist you when you give me that smile.”
You apologized profusely, and Adam watched you passively, until he got tired of it. “Shh, baby. I get it.”
“Adam…” You mumbled. “What are you doing?”
“Well, I’m GOING to fuck you. But I don’t think that’s what you’re asking.”
You giggled. “I just wanted to hear you say it…”
“I know,” Adam whispered, and then started to peel your clothes off. “Just take my breath away, like you always do.”
“ ‘Course, Adam. I’d love to,” you replied compliantly.
“And be a sweet thing, yeah?” Adam’s voice was low and seductive.
“Yeah.” Your voice wavered, and broke. You were so full of emotions you could barely speak.
“Promise?” Adam questioned ominously, with no intent of being dangerous.
“I promise,” you purred straight back.

Breathe, you told yourself. Breathe. Just breathe. You’ll be fine. You closed your eyes, trying to lose yourself. That! Right there! Oh, yeah…
The sparks on your lips lit up like fireworks. You opened and closed your mouth. Feeling Adam Stanheight’s mouth working wonders on your lips was amazing. A little bit of biting was included.
The street lights flashed by the window, filling the car up with dim, golden, light.
Adam’s hands were on your skin, crawling up your body, under your clothes, rubbing on sensitive and non-sensitive places, filling you up with affection and attention. His gentle kisses fell from your mouth to your jaws. He sent a trail all the way down to the bottom of your ear.
You leaned into him, moaning, gasping, breathing. Waves of dopamine rolled over you continuously, setting your mind at ease, pleasuring you, but only just.
Adam let his lips fall to your neck, caressing you softly. He left marks on your skin, causing you to shiver and shudder, but that didn’t make him think to stop, he liked it. He messaged the same place on your neck with his lips until it was numb and bruising, and then he kept going. Taking care of you was his first priority.
You were pinned between the car door, and your boyfriend. The cold glass of the window pressed into your back, and the door handle jammed into your side, but you didn’t care. Adam was all you could think of.
You gasped audibly, making the driver flinch. Adam only grabbed your knees and stretched them away from each other. Faulkner was making bold advances, but you liked it. If you both weren’t so drunk, then maybe you’d have a little more compassion for the uber driver, but you were shitfaced.
Adam’s sloppy kissing was more than arousing. Somehow, you were for it. Your boyfriend’s hands started brushing up along your inner thigh, his thumb rubbing circles. His lips had gone from your neck to the center of your chest. He was making sure not to ruin his piece of artwork.
You choked on air, as Adam used his free hand to stroke your cheek. You felt his calloused hand go up and down your cheek. Up and down, up and down, lulling you to sleep. You turned your head into his palm, taking in his smokey scent. You loved that smell, loved how it stung the back of your throat.
Adam started to work his way back up your body, while his hand found an interesting place to linger. You rolled your head back so it was leaning on the window. Adam brushed his nose past all the places he had kissed, stopping by your own nose. He smiled against your lips slightly, and pecked the very edge of your mouth. You were driven mad by this, he knew it.
A silence drifted between you as you looked into the other’s eyes, mesmerized. Dazzling, gleaming, streams shone in Adam’s eyes, pulling you deeper into his trance. His brown eyes made you hungry for more.
Your boyfriend kissed you again on the edge of your mouth, and then kissed your upper cheek, where he trailed his nose back down your face towards your lips. You trembled a little at the soft feeling of his nose grazing your chin, and then stopping at your nose again.
His breath was warm and wet as it wafted past your face. You could smell the leftover metallic from his previous cigarette. You hummed out in contentment, happiness filling you up just like bubbles expanding in the bath. You grabbed Adam’s wrist and sighed.
Adam was already undoing the button to your jeans. Clearly he had major plans for tonight.
You tilted your head at him, and giggled.
“Shh,” Adam whispered in your ear. “Let me take care of you.”
His words blended together like a long susurrus, and wreathed around you. You breathed in his scent deeply and collapsed onto the window, blacking out finally. Adam put his forehead on your chest, his eyelids getting heavy. He took a look at his partner one last time. You were so attractive laying like that. Damn, if only he’d been a little quicker, maybe he would have had time to actually fuck you. Oh well, that was for another time. Right now… he could really use a nap. Adam fell asleep on your chest.
When you awoke the next morning, you had a pounding headache. You could hear something coming from the bedroom. It sounded like… Adam… but there was another voice there with him. They were talking about the next series of photoshoots. A client must have come over while you were sleeping. You got up, the whole world flipped upside down, and you sank onto the couch again. You ended up crawling on the floor just so you could get some refreshing water.
You could barely remember what happened last night, you vaguely knew what had happened on the ride home but that was it. However, you still had a major arousal, and some kind of relief would be appreciated. You would wait to ask Adam.
After a few minutes you were able to stand up properly, without feeling nauseous and falling over. You headed into the bedroom, and pushed the door open. Your vision was kinda blurry, but that was okay, it would pass.
You entered the bedroom slowly, gripping the glass of water in your hand tightly. In the back of the room you could see Adam with his camera up to his face. He was taking pictures of a young woman. She wasn’t dressed much, save for a couple of silks. Adam usually didn’t do THIS kind of thing. But, you assumed he had agreed to it last night when he was drunk, and now was going through with it. It was fine. You were used to him having other people over. It wasn’t like he was banging them or anything, he was a photographer… Freelance photographer to be exact.
“Who’s that?” The young woman asked strictly. “You said no one was here! Is that why you had me walk through the living room with my eyes closed!? Are you cheating on me?”
“What?” Adam asked, baffled, and stared at the young woman. Obviously, he was still too hungover to process anything correctly as well.
“I said, who is that woman!?”
Adam looked over his shoulder at you. You could see how bloodshot his eyes looked and how tired he seemed. There were black circles under his eyes. He had been up all night by the look of it. “Oh. That’s Y/N.” He gave you a lovesick smile. “Hiii.” He waved at you.
You stared straight passed him, at the other woman. Anger and jealousy were eating at you from within, churning your insides into nothing. You glared at her, unable to believe your eyes. Adam was with another lady!? You thought it was just a client getting her pictures taken. What was this?
Hot iron boiled in your stomach like unchewed red meat. The arousal was starting to fade away. “What’s going on?”
“I should be asking you that!” The woman yelled back. “I was just here with my fiance!”
Adam opened his mouth to interject but you stormed out of the room. Behind you, you could hear Adam crying. “Why did you say that? Why would you do something like that? I don’t even know you!”
“That’s not what you said last night!”
Fuming, you stuffed a bag with most of your clothes and you left the apartment. You were not thinking straight to bring anything else, all you were was drunk and dumped. Your heart felt like an injured bird, not able to fly, caged, and wingless. You’d never be in the air again.
Fuck, he’s leading me on! He gets paid to stalk people, why would he cheat on me? That doesn’t make any sense. Maybe that’s why he has abandonment issues. Shit…
Everything was starting to click into place, and it hurt. Way too much.
You slunk swiftly towards the bus stop, hauling your belongings behind you. You scurried downward, painful shocks throbbing through your shoulders with every sob released from your lungs. The longer it took you to get to the bus stop, the more your chest hurt.
Blindly, numbly, you stretched the crinkled dollar bill into the driver’s palm, and maneuvered into the back seat. Sniffling and choking, you endured a long and excruciating drive across the city. You were already gone by the time Adam called you.
“Y/N? Y/N? Where are you?”
“I left,” you said bluntly.
“ ‘left’?” Adam inquired in disbelief. “What do you MEAN?”
“I LEFT,” you repeated firmly.
“I- uh- wh- but- ugh.” Adam trailed off for a couple of seconds. “Okay, listen. I know what it looked like, but it wasn’t THAT. She was a young woman I ran into last night. I don’t remember anything, but according to her I said I love you. I thought I was talking to you!”
“How do you mistake me for HER!?”
“I mean… you have the same color hair?”
You scoffed, unable to believe your ears. Somehow, hearing Adam’s voice made you relax. You felt better.
“Same color eyes?”
You rolled your eyes, and scoffed again.
“It doesn’t matter,” Adam muttered. “Whatever I said to whomever, isn’t important. I thought I was talking to you. I want you to come back. We can talk this through. I don’t even know who she is!”
“How’d she get in?”
“Um. I dunno. Guess I gave her my address… I was so fucking drunk last night… Just tell me where you are. I’m so worried about you!”
You looked down at yourself. Your sweater was uncomfortable, your jeans were crooked, and you were cold. Your duffel bag was looking limp and lonely, very isolated and incredibly sad. You realized that you were a long ways away from home, and the closest place was Adam’s apartment. You didn’t want to leave Adam, if there was a chance you could make it right you would take it, of course you would!
You peered out the window and searched for a street sign. It was too dark to see anything. “I don’t know,” you grumbled disappointedly. You asked an elderly woman sitting next to you which street you were on. She turned her back on you, and kept typing on her phone.
Awkwardly, you turned back. “I’m… on a bus.”
“Shit, you LEFT.”
“That’s what I said.”
“I didn’t know you meant it like that.”
“Just get me home, Adam!” You whimpered desperately.
“Okay, okay. Let’s figure this out.”
“Adam! Let me in! Let me in! Goddamnit, are you on the phone with that wench/swain!?” The voice of the other woman came barreling into the speaker phone.
“Get out!” Adam shouted. “Get out! No, no, I don’t care! No! Don’t do that! I said GO!”
“Adaaaaam,” the woman whined.
“No! Don’t open that! What the fuck?”
“Adam?” You asked quietly, shifting your feet back and forth. The elderly woman was giving you dirty looks.
“How did you get into the bedroom? I locked the door,” Adam told the woman.
The woman replied snidely, “Your sweet little lover left their spare bedroom key. Oh, and what’s that? Their promise ring, too? Boohoo.”
You could practically feel the flinch that Adam made at that remark. “I’m sorry, Adam,” you interjected. “I didn’t mean to. I jumped to conclusions.”
“Tch,” Adam sighed dismissively. “Nevermind. I don’t blame you. Just come back. I love you.”
You didn’t know how to respond to that. Fortunately, the woman started yelling again. “You tricked me! You pervert! I bet you wanted to see me naked.”
“Y/N,” Adam said flatly. “I’m calling the police. Hold on, okay? I’ll get back to you. Just… figure out where you are, and I’ll come get you. Did I tell you how worried I am? I’m so worried about you.”
You nodded. “I’ll try.”
“Okay. See ya.” Adam hung up, and left you all alone.
The old woman said finally, “Young kids these days don't know no manners.”
You shot her an angry glare, and then got up and strode to the front. You asked the bus driver where the next stop was. He said it was three miles. You hung your head, and accepted your fate. That was when you noticed the woman at the back rummaging around in your duffel bag. You went charging down the aisle.
Though there was nothing of importance to you in that bag, you would have preferred to keep all your clothes. You ripped the bag out of her fingers. “What are you doing!?”
“Young kids don’t know how to share, these days.”
You stared at her in horror, and then sat down all the way at the end of the bench. You put your bag daintily on your lap.
You got out at the bus stop. You were scared, and soaking wet, but you didn’t have anywhere to go. You sat there, feeling lonely. When Adam called you back, you said, “I don’t know where I am. All I know is that I’m on the third bus stop in Delaware.”
“Delaware!?” Adam exclaimed. “What the hell are you doing in Delaware?”
“Um…” You found it hard to speak suddenly.
“Oh, nevermind!” Adam seemed to realize the stupidity of that question. “I’m coming to get you.”
“Two hours? Adam, it’s better if I just take a bus.”
“Y/N, no. I’m coming to get you. We need to take care of each other.”
You sighed and sat down. The traffic was low but still busy. You watched the cars pass by you, and you were jealous of everyone who didn’t have to sit in the downpour. You rocked back and forth on the wet bench and watched some sort of movie on your phone until it died. By then Adam was only thirty minutes away. He had told you just before the power shut off on your phone. It was a long wait, quiet and still and empty. Nothing happened on the street for a long time during those minutes.
Your legs were freezing and your hair was plastered to your head. You were miserable. When Adam saw his S/O sitting like that all alone, he flipped the fuck out. He parked to the side in a hurry. The curb was yellow, but this went unnoticed. Adam hurtled himself at you, collapsing on your lap. It was currently two thirty. “Y/N, Y/N, Y/N! Oh, shit, oh, shit!”
Faulkner pulled your hair back with both hands. Each hand was on either side of your head, and his thumbs pinned your bangs to your forehead so that he could get a clear view of your face. Adam was distraught.
Swiftly, he plunged his face forward and kissed you right on the lips, taking your upper lip in his mouth. It was short lived, and he backed away looking frantic. “Look at you! I can’t believe you did this!”
You stared past him embarrassedly. “I know. I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have done this.”
“Let’s get you in the car. It should still be warm.”
“I just feel…”
Adam pushed you into the car, and then crouched down to look at you. He was in between your legs, keeling on the wet pavement, gazing into your face. “Yeah?” He asked, concerned.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” you muttered shyly.
You tried to pull your feet into the car, but Adam turned you straight towards him. “No. Tell me. Tell me. I want to know.”
You huffed and shook your head, getting too humiliated to continue. “No… Nevermind. I care a lot about you.” You tried to pull your feet inside again.
“Don’t leave me like that,” Adam murmured. “Tell me what’s wrong. I can’t help you, if you don’t talk to me. Come on, baby, we’re supposed to be open with our significant others.”
You looked into Adam’s searching face, and blushed a bright red. “I hope I never lose you, hope it never ends. I’d never walk Cornelia Street again. That’s the kind of heartbreak time could never mend.” You wrung your hands together self consciously. “I get mystified by how this city screams your name… Or rather… New Jersey…” You laughed awkwardly. “Not Delaware…”
“Is that all?” Adam asked you gently.
You shook your head. “I’m so terrified of, if you ever walked away. I’d never walk Cornelia Street again. Ever again.”
Adam’s round puppy eyes were taking all of you in, like a fish gasping for air out of water. “Holy hell, Y/N. I didn’t know any of this. I’d never leave you. That lady wasn’t even supposed to be here. I’m sorry I scared you.”
“Take me home, Adam.”
“Yeah, yeah. Of course.” Adam got to his feet and allowed you to get in the car.
Adam had been riding with the windows down, but you didn’t mind because the heat from the car heater was warming you up well enough, not to mention Adam had lended you his jacket - or rather flannel. It was hanging loosely on your shoulders, you didn’t have your arms in the sleeves.
The ride home was silent, but pleasant, although the events of the day wouldn’t stop haunting you. You felt bad about them. You felt humiliated. You wondered what Adam thought. Did he think less of you?
To add on to the anxiety, you couldn’t believe how fast you’d jumped to conclusions. You were concerned about that, too. Was Adam judging you for that? If he was, what was he thinking? You fought with yourself for telling him about your fears. At the end of the day, perhaps Adam wasn’t the one with the abandonment issues? Perhaps…
Well, perhaps it was actually you?
Take My Breath Away - Adam Stanheight / Reader
Magic, it was like magic. Like water rolling down the fall, splashing elegantly into the pond. Like stars spinning round and round the solar system. It was crazy, so crazy; super duper awe-inspiring, eye opening, enchanting. You crept up the stairs at twelve AM. You’d gotten inside with the spare key. You maneuvered around some creaky floorboards. Adrenaline spikes were a common occurrence for this endeavor, but the end result was always worth it. You gripped the stair railing tightly, trying not to reveal yourself. You’d be dead, if your friends found you’d been going back. But as previously stated, it was worth it.
You climbed the stairs carefully, not making a peep. One year of doing this had gotten you good at knowing where all the broken floorboards were, and where to put your feet. It was easy at this point!
Moonlight fell onto the floor above the stairs, keeping you motivated to continue. You loved the white moon. It was like a bright, circle light against the dark, night sky. It was beautiful, so beautiful; light through a diamond, or petals from a rose. Magnificent.
Gracefully, smoothly, feet ascended onto the patch of moonlight, cold and bare against the wooden floor. Eyes gazed out into the darkness, wide and searching, barely even blinking, scared to lose the sight ahead. Hesitantly, you leaned out of your protective circle, torso leading then feet following. Straightening your back, you proceeded down the short way, treading lightly over the brittle, splintery, wood.
At the door, you reached for the doorknob. You grazed it with your knuckles first, just to make sure it was the right one. You felt the cold, rigid, handle bump up and down your knuckles with every indent. The familiar scratches made you feel welcome. You smiled and turned it slowly, feeling it click and slide beneath your fingers. And then you pulled the door open.
The darkness was scared away suddenly, as the golden lights sprang into action on its wooden home and territory. You stood there gasping breathily, all hung up in the moment, capturing the beauty of the light as it forced the darkness away from you, and illuminated the entire room. You could feel the magic this time, physically flowing around you. You spread your arms out and embraced it, like you would with any art, or creativity. Finally, you were home, nowhere else felt as good as being here.
Slowly, savoringly, you stepped inside, saving as much time as possible. This moment right here was just so… sweet. Refreshing. You loved it because it was only the beginning. You had all the night to stay here, and worry about nothing. All the night before you had to return. That was what you loved.
By now the light was not so hard on your eyes. You could see the couch and the coffee table, the kitchen sink and the kitchen table. You allowed yourself inside, among the clutter. You brought the door to a close as you went, locking the lights back in their cage and putting a stop to its torment outside. You were confronted with the musky smell of dust and cigarette smoke, and the raw smell of Photographic Fixer. You were glad to be inside now, it was thundering outside and raining hard. Sometimes the sky would light up with lightning.
You relaxed on the living room couch, making yourself right at home without any question, concern, second thoughts, or even going to look for the resident first. You plunked yourself down right away, leaned back, closed your eyes, and let the rain soothe you. You didn’t fall asleep of course.
You weren’t exhausted, just a little strung out. Running from there to here always stressed you out a little bit. You didn’t want your roommates to find out what you’d been doing. But once you got into the apartment, you were safe and sound. No one could hurt you, or scream at you, or get at you. Nothing. All there was, was peace and quiet. You let out a heavy sigh, and enjoyed how the sour second-hand smoke stung the back of your throat. It was silent for a long, long time; just what you needed.
And then the resident came out to greet you; he was very excited to see you. “Y/N!” He exclaimed, sitting down beside, a wide smile on his face and his camera hanging around his neck. He smelled strongly of cigarettes and chemicals. You felt delighted to see him at last! “How are you? I’m so sorry I kept you waiting, you snuck right in, didn’t you?”
You giggled and leaned into him, blushing a little bit. “Mmmhmmm,” you admitted. “I needed some ‘me’ time, honestly. I enjoyed the solitude for a while.”
“Well, anyway. How ARE you, really? Everything going alright back at home?”
“Yes, Adam,” you shoved him gently. “They don’t suspect a thing. But I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to keep this under wraps. You know, I’ll be starting the night shift soon.”
“Really!?” Adam pounced on you. “That’s great news!”
“Yeah…” You glanced at the floor.
“Isn’t that what you wanted?”
“I mean… I guess, yes. But then I won’t be able to spend these nights with you anymore. You do realize that, don’t you? I already can’t see you in the daytime. How will I ever see you now?”
“We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. You don’t have to worry about working the night shift right now, so let’s not.”
You smiled halfheartedly, and then looked up at him. You were laying on the couch in such a way that your body and legs were stretched out behind you, and your head was resting on Adam’s chest. You were on your stomach looking up at him, completely and utterly lovesick. Adam, as usual, was wearing his white tee, his flannel was actually tied around his waist, and he was gazing back down at you with affection.
“I missed you,” you sighed.
“Yeah?” Adam asked you softly.
You nodded. “Yeah… I was thinking about you all day.”
“You saw me last night,” Adam pointed out casually.
“So?” You shrugged. “I still missed you.”
Adam chuckled. “Don’t worry, honey, it would have been stupid of me to pretend that I didn’t miss you either.”
You snuggled closer. Adam wrapped his arms around your back. You were happy, and your chest felt like it was about to explode from happiness. Your mind was all fuzzy and foggy as you pressed against him. Your deep, slow, breaths weren’t enough to discourage the dizziness; you felt breathless.
“Adam…” You whispered.
“Y/N…” Adam whispered back.
“I love you,” you told him. You could hear his heartbeat through his chest.
“I love you, too, baby.” Adam’s voice was soothing and affectionate. It made you woozy.
“I don’t know what I’d do without you. You’re so important.”
“I’d better be.” Adam smoothed out your hair with a hand. He lifted up your head with his other hand, and examined your rosey cheeks. You could feel your stomach stirr with unease, but something about it was consuming. It was silent in the room, each of you simply taking in the other’s presence. Both of you were fixated on what was in front of you.
Adam cast a glance down, towards your trembling and tempting lips. Your cheeks flushed brighter, becoming one with the outside atmosphere; warm and intense. His eyes traveled past your lips and towards your neck and chest, checking out all the perfect places to fondle you. And then, he brought his gaze back to your lips, leaving you with an utmost feeling of lust. It was then that he finally kissed you, bringing you to what you wanted, to what you had come for. It was breathtaking.
In a panicked rush of chaos, thoughts started to run through your mind, confusing you but most importantly discouraging you. Adam’s way with romance was too overpowering, and sometimes you didn’t know how to keep up. His fast moving lips, and the firm pressure of his mouth made your head swim. You feared that you’d mess up the moment.
But quickly, Adam progressed. He added in a stronger flavor, tearing into your mouth aggressively. You had gotten used to the smokey taste of cigarettes, in fact it was so unique you needed it, in order for it to be normal.
This feeling, it was like stars burning all over your skin, grabbing you, shaking you, introducing you to things you’d never met before. Oh, it was grandiose! And you clung onto it like there was no tomorrow. Like you’d die if you didn’t continue! Confidence was a rare thing to you, but it always came out when you hung around Adam. You felt special.
You felt a slight zing on your sensitive lips as Faulkner initiated the ending protocol, gently backing away from your overly-delicate kisser. You maneuvered so as to allow him to sit up. He did very carefully, and then watched you peacefully. You and him looked longingly into each other’s eyes passionately, loving every moment. Your breath was completely gone, wisped away into the approaching sunrise, waiting for a new arrival, waiting for its turn on earth once again but still a long way from returning. You inhaled slowly.
“I don’t know how to tell my friends that we got back together,” you said somberly.
Adam rubbed your back reassuringly. “Don’t worry about that. We’ll tell them when the time is right. They don’t have to know everything about you.”
You put your forehead on his chest, and once again felt the air leave your body.
Damn it! Adam knows exactly how to make me feel better! I can’t believe I almost lost him to Jigsaw! My friends don’t understand what good he is.
Adam pushed down on your tense shoulders. “Shh, relax. Tell me what you’re thinking about.”
Adam’s words warmed you up inside, but you couldn’t bring yourself to explain. Adam was still recovering, and your friends were worried he would lash out, but you knew better than they did. He wouldn’t DO that. And especially not to you. You didn’t want to offend Stanheight by telling him the truth, so you didn’t say anything at all.
But Adam wasn’t easily deceived. “Y/N,” he murmured directly into your ear. “Is it about your roommates?”
Hit right on the nail. You flinched and nodded.
Adam sighed empathetically. “Listen, they care about you. They just want what’s best for their friend. I understand they don’t trust me yet, but I couldn’t have made it this far without you. You’re the best thing that happened to me.” He kissed you on the top of the head.
You gazed down at his lap, hearing the rhythmic thump of Adam’s beating heart. You smiled. “Alright.”
“Hmm?” Adam cupped a cheek with one hand.
You smiled shyly to yourself. “I said ‘alright’.”
“Good. That’s good. I’m glad you’re feeling better.” His thumb trailed down your cheek. “My perfect little prince/princess. I love you so much. Do you know that?”
Adam’s constant stream of sweet-nothings was getting you lightheaded. You hugged your boyfriend closer. “Yes,” you answered automatically.
“Really?” Adam asked. He was really driving the point home.
“Yeah, I do,” you assured him.
Adam ruffled your hair. “Mr./Mrs. beautiful.”
You grinned up at him, breathless. Happiness pulsed through you. You would never get used to this. THIS was everything that kept you going. ADAM.
“You’re too nice to me,” you whispered.
“No,” Adam shrugged. “Just telling the truth.”
You laughed sweetly, and then leaned over him for the TV remote. “You up for a movie?”
Adam sat back and let you switch on the TV. “Sure. We should watch a romance.”
“Why specifically romance?”
“Or comedy. Whichever.”
You clasped your hand in Adam’s hand, and then flipped through the romcoms. “Why romance?” You asked again.
“Dunno,” Adam said casually. “Guess it was just instinctual. Why? Is there something else you’d like to watch?”
“No. This is fine.”
You were tired from a long day at work, but staying up with the love of your life was totally worth it, even if it meant sacrificing sleep for him. You’d do anything for this man, anything. It was rough being away from him for so long, though. This feeling, it was only there when you were around him. The feeling of ecstasy, squeezing you so tight you had trouble breathing. This man… he took your breath away. Perhaps even quite literally.
No matter what he did, it was ever so magical.
Kiss Me - Adam Stanheight / Reader
A/N This one is extra long so buckle down! And I’m sorry, I’m posting it from my phone bc I’m too excited to wait to get back to my computer! ~ Enjoy
.
Adam Stanheight was coming home from a grocery shopping trip. The store wasn’t about two blocks away, so walking was hardly a problem. He liked the sunshine anyway. His best friend was supposed to be coming over today. Perhaps in about forty-five minutes?
The sky was clear, but dark rain clouds were approaching on the distant horizon, and the wind was rough, whistling through the trees. Otherwise, it was a beautiful day for walking. Maybe he’d get to go out again with his friend? He couldn’t wait for YOU to come over! Just the thought got his heart all fluttery.
He rounded a corner swiftly, the wind blowing into his face and the sun blinding his eyes. Ahead of him, he saw the exact person he was thinking of, head down, arms crossed, walking fast. Adam wasn’t great at reading people but for some reason he got the feeling that you were NOT happy. His heart slowed way down, and his breath was taken away, as you shoved past him. You didn’t even know Adam was there.
Adam felt conflicted. He didn’t want to leave you, but he was too nervous to chase after. Maybe, if he made it seem like he just wanted to check in on their later plans, you wouldn’t think anything of it? He turned around and started back the way he came. “Y/N!”
You looked over your shoulder when you heard your name, giving Adam a clear view of your pouty expression.
Adam reached his hand out for your shoulder. You were cold, and shivering. You were miserable! So, now what did he do? He hadn’t planned this out very well. “Y/N…” He whispered.
“Hmmm?” You asked, looking into his eyes.
“Uh…” Any words had left Adam’s head all together. He was just so preoccupied with your appearance. He was so close to you, and it hurt. “Oh, right… Um… Are you good? I mean… Are you okay?”
You smiled in amusement. “Are you?”
“Y-Yeah,” Adam stammered. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
You laughed. “Right.”
“Um…” Adam looked around, trying to think of something else to say. “Why don’t you come back to my place?” It was supposed to be thirty degrees today, so why was he so warm?
You thought about it for a second. “Sure. I guess I can come by early. I thought you were doing something?”
“Oh… I did it.” Adam raised the bag of groceries up to you, and grinned sheepishly.
“Okay,” you agreed.
You both started to walk back. “What were you doing out here?” Adam asked you.
“Just dropping off a library book,” you replied. “It was totally lame, too. The line was out the door and everything. Like… when is there a line to the library!?”
Adam watched as you wrapped your arms around yourself, shivering and trying to warm yourself up. The flannel around Adam’s arms started to get heavy. He looked away, feeling self-conscious. “Did you get the book returned?”
“Mmhmm,” you responded quietly. And then you took in a cold, deep breath. “So… did you get everything you needed from the store?”
“Yes.” Adam noticed you rubbing your hands over your uncovered skin. He bit his lip, and proceeded to take off his flannel. He came up behind you and dropped it onto your shoulders.
You looked at him in surprise, and put your arms into his flannel sleeves. You hugged it closer to your body. “Thanks…”
Adam only nodded in response, gawking at you in disbelief. His flannel was too big for you, but it looked good on you anyway. The sleeves covered your entire hand, only showing your fingertips, and the rest of it came down to your thighs. You turned around, smiling. Adam could see that you had buttoned it up all the way. You looked really cute in his flannel.
He put an arm around your neck as you walked side-by-side. You being pressed against his side made him feel really good. He got all jittery feeling you on him. He tried not to think too much about it. You put your head on his shoulder, and Adam tensed, heat rising to his cheeks. “Comfortable?” He asked jokingly.
You nodded. “Quite.”
Adam was glad when he saw his apartment. He detangled himself from your embrace and jogged towards the door, fumbling with the key, which was still in his pocket. You trailed after him, looking lost in thought. Adam decided he’d had enough anxiety for now, and he only opened the door for you.
“Thank you, kind sir,” you teased, dipping your head to him politely.
Adam laughed. You were ridiculous! Perfect for him. “Of course, dearest.” He bowed to you.
You blushed, and pulled him up again. “Oh, sheesh…”
Adam gazed into your eyes, finding a fascination in your timid face, and rosey cheeks.
Cute…
You stared back at him, your lips parted slightly, nervously, unsure of what was going to happen next. You both were so near… Adam could hear the blood rushing in his ears, and his heartbeat thundering in his chest. Your breath was light, and warm as it crossed over his nose and mouth, and into the air.
Your eyes were so dazzling, and Adam could just get lost in them. Adam felt you clasp your hands in with his. He held on to your hands tightly, almost like he was afraid to lose you. The feeling of you in his arms was so overwhelming. He had to ignore the barrage of colors pressing around him and just focus on the grey area. You were the only thing he could keep track of.
“You’re so pretty,” Adam murmured dumbly.
You flinched back abruptly. “What? No, I just put on a sweatshirt and sweatpants!”
Adam was thrown back into reality harshly, his feelings crushed into oblivion. He was humiliated for saying that out loud! Had he just fucked up his chances? “Uh… I didn’t mean-” He stopped himself. That wouldn’t sound right at all! “Well, I think you look good in that.”
You turned away. “Okay. Thanks. I appreciate it.”
Adam hopped after you happily. “You’re welcome!”
As he opened the door to his apartment, he heard a loud thud come from inside, and he knew immediately what that was.
Shit. The pile of books fell off the table! I knew that was going to happen. Oh no! I hope Y/N doesn’t mind my disaster area for a living quarters!
You stepped inside delicately, traversing through his messy apartment. Adam wished he had cleaned up before inviting anyone over, especially YOU. This was horrible. “I’m so sorry about the mess-” He began desperately.
“Oh, don’t worry about it, Adam!” You interrupted. “I’m used to it at this point.”
“Oh…” That sentence felt like a blow to the head, but Adam knew you were simply trying to reassure him, not insult. He stumbled through his own house, and then started to pick up the fallen books.
Adam didn’t notice you helping until your hands brushed one another’s. He glanced at you in horror. “You don’t have to-”
“Don’t worry,” you repeated. “I want to.” You beamed at him.
Adam felt reluctant, but he couldn’t say ‘no’ to that face. Instead he turned back to the books and started piling them up on the table again. With each passing moment, the heat seemed to increase. Your hands and his hands mixing together to clean up the mess, and occasionally knocking into one another made it difficult for Adam to concentrate.
At last, he leaned over for the last book. At that same moment, however, you swung around and came face to face with him, the book being held in your very gentle grasp. Adam Stanheight stared at you insecurely, taking notice of how smooth your skin looked. He wondered what it felt like. And he also wondered if that was a creepy thing to wonder about. Both of your noses were practically touching.
“Oh…I’m… uh… sorry…” You mumbled awkwardly, keeping your eyes on the floor.
“Erm… It’s not…” Adam answered stupidly. “…I meant to say, YOU’RE not…” Adam trailed off, thinking hard. Neither of those had been what he had intended to say.
You looked at him, visible confusion on your face. “What?” You questioned bluntly.
Adam’s eyes became entranced on the floor, the wall, the ceiling, anything but your own gaze. He needed to open a window, sheesh! “N-No… Um… I just… was trying to say that it wasn’t stupid.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“I know,” Adam replied hastily. “I… I thought you did… But I know that you didn’t, but… What I mean, uh…” He took the book from your fingers. “Why don’t I get you some coffee?” He asked instead, and stood up, breaking the close proximity. He tossed the book onto the table, causing all the books to slide over and spread across the surface. Your work had been all for naught. You stood up as well, and put your hands flat on the surface of the table, watching Adam.
Adam gathered himself up, feeling like a moron. He started to brew the coffee. He was glad to be putting some distance between you and himself. It was an unusual feeling. In all honesty, he didn’t know what was up with himself. In the past he’d been able to look at you in the eyes with a shit-eating grin as you both started up some crazy bullshit. But now… Adam couldn’t even be in the same room as you; even THAT made him too uncomfy. And for what? Why did he feel so nervous around you? It wasn’t like you were his boss… So then why?
Too deep in his thoughts to hear the real world, he was thrown for a loop when warm arms wrapped around his waist, and a firm head was placed on his back. Adam flinched, and looked down at himself. You had come up behind him and hugged him. Your frame pressed up against his own body felt good. It was soothing, almost. He poured the hot water into the coffee pot, trying not to get distracted by your arms holding tightly onto his waist. For once he was glad you couldn’t see his face, a collage of bright reds and pinks. He liked it, though.
“Hmm, Adam…” You hummed out contentedly right behind his head.
Dizziness crashed over Adam. Hearing you so close to him was overwhelming. He leaned onto the counter. “Uh-huh?” It was the closest thing to a response that he could muster.
“You think it’s okay for best friends to change their relationship, right?” You asked hesitantly.
Adam’s fried brain tried to think of a logical answer. Unfortunately, it didn’t do that in the right direction. “Yeah, sure. If both parties really don’t like each other.”
Silence.
“I mean, you know. If the people decide that the other isn’t good for them,” Adam added.
“I think you misunderstand,” you told him gently. “Let me try again.”
Adam felt frazzled. Had he said something wrong? He was just trying to give an honest opinion. He did believe that it was okay for best friends to stop hanging out, if the relationship wasn’t working out. Did you think he meant that about you guys!? “Y/N! I didn’t mean that about us!”
“I know,” you replied calmly.
“What did you mean?”
“I guess I was just wondering if it was okay to have a favorite bff…” you murmured quietly. “Like, one you want to spend the most time with. One you would rather be with than the others.”
“I think that’s fine.”
“Do you have someone like that?”
Adam had to think it over. He couldn’t really think of anyone that he would rather spend more time with… Well that wasn’t true actually. He could, but he was scared to admit that. What would YOU think? “Well, sometimes I want to be with someone else more than another. What about you?”
“Oh…” you whispered nervously. “Yeah… There’s someone I’d rather be with than the rest of our friend group…”
Adam turned around to look at you, confused. “Who?”
You stared at him in disbelief, like he had just suggested breathing underwater. “Uh…” You folded your lips and looked at the ground.
Adam smiled. “What?”
You laughed nervously.
“Am I missing something?”
You backed away, shaking your head. “Oh, never mind, Adam…”
Adam, not being the greatest at reading people, detected some kind of dissatisfaction coming from his ‘bff’. It made him even more uncomfortable, seeing someone that he liked a lot feeling unhappy. “Um… Wait! Y/N!”
You looked up at him. “What is it, Adam?”
“Is there something you want me to say?” He asked you worriedly.
You let out a sound that was in between a laugh and a scoff. “What am I supposed to say to that?”
“Is there?” Adam insisted.
At Adam’s persistence, you couldn’t help but give in. You ducked your head embarrassedly. “There MIGHT be something I was hoping you would say…”
Now that he was facing you, Adam had a clear view of your beautiful face. The rosy cheeks, the smooth skin, the luscious lips, that perfect hair. He was obsessed. His gaze flicked up and down your face for a few short moments, then he finally said, “I really like you…”
Your eyes widened, and Adam felt his heart drop a thousand feet into the ground. He wanted to suffocate in the dirt but also wanted to blossom. He was conflicted. Had he said the right thing this time? You obviously thought so. You smiled widely at Adam, relief washing over you. “I was thinking you’d never say it…” You murmured.
“A lot…” Adam added clumsily.
You smiled shyly. “I like you, too… A lot…”
“What do I do with that information?” Adam asked sarcastically.
You chuckled a little at that.
Being so close to you felt amazing. But something just wasn’t right yet. What was it? Why did it feel like the moment wasn’t quite complete? He grabbed your hands but it still wasn’t right. Your foreheads were even touching, how could this NOT be what Adam was yearning for? Though something was off, there was a satisfaction inside him. If this was all he got from you, he would be just fine with that. He took in the rest of you. Your lips were luscious… luscious…
That was it! He wanted you to put an end to his suffering. He wanted to feel you. He wanted you to put your mouth on his mouth and make him forget about everything. That’s right, he wanted you to kiss him.
You, kissing me?
The thought seemed impossible.
Kiss me… Please…
But not unreal.
Adam leaned forward slightly, breathing in your sweet scent and brushing his skin over yours. You pressed in as well, feeling satisfied. From one moment to the next, Adam could barely keep track of time. Slowly, you closed the gap between your lips, kissing Adam cautiously, intimately, fiercely.
Adam was swept away by large emotions of bliss. He let you pull at his shirt, and he closed his eyes. This felt so good, just being able to touch the one that he craved. He was enjoying this way too much.
After some light kissing, he backed away, getting a disbelieving look from you. Adam inhaled sharply, trying to calm his pounding heart. The both of you exchanged steamy breaths of air, until you decided you had waited long enough.
Still feeling your humid breath in his mouth, he reacted glady to having your lips in his once again. He slid his hands up your shirt, and started massaging your fragile skin. Your skin was soft and just as smooth as it appeared. His hands skimmed up your stomach, up your chest, making a few detours, and climbed up your neck, where he wrapped his arms around your neck and pulled you in close.
Your body pressing against him intrigued him so much. He longed for more, and you obliged. Keeping a solid stream of kissing in motion, you pushed him against the counter, making him moan. He propped himself up with his elbows, still kissing you.
The pressure on his lips made him woozy, and he grabbed harder onto the counter top, trying not to get dizzy. This was difficult because your impeccable kissing just kept drowning him in massive waves of delight. The hard counter top dug into his back painfully, but he didn’t care, you were all so sense-consuming. You devoured him hungrily, like a magnet being drawn to its opposite. You carved a pathway between your mouths, sketching and molding and forging a personalized course for just the two of you, one that couldn’t be retraced unless both of the originating participants were present.
It was eye-opening.
Dry and dull, that was the next scene. The feeling of you pulling away was agonizing; venomous bites all over his lips and jaws, giving Adam a headache. He didn’t want you to stop. He didn’t want you to leave. He didn’t want you to break the close proximity. He groaned unhappily.
“Y/N, what are you doing?”
You blinked at him tiredly. “Heh, sorry, Adam. It’s getting a little hot in here, don’t you think?”
Adam had gotten used to the blood rush. He’d forgotten all about opening the window. “Oh yeah… I could open a window, if you’d like?”
You sat back. “Oh, no. It’s okay. Just a little-” you cut off suddenly to chuckle nervously.
“Hey, um…” Adam found himself saying. He wasn’t sure what he was going to say or why, but he trusted his subconscious to get it right. “I’d really like it if you stayed the night. If you’re up for it. I just thought… you know, since we’re here and all, it might be nice.”
You laid a hand on top of Adam’s shoulder. “Yeah. I WOULD like that.”
Adam felt his heart skip a beat. After so long of waiting, he’d finally done the right thing. Was it worth it? Was it real?
He hoped so.
He’d have to wait and see.
Sleeping Beauty - Adam Stanheight / Reader
A/N sorry for the short story, been feeling writer’s block. (This was a prompt. I’m sorry it’s creepy asf.)
.
Adam Faulkner was late to bed that night. It was nearly three in the morning when he finally finished producing a set of pictures. He was late to producing the pictures as well. He was late for an appointment with a client. He was late for a lot of things right now. He had to reschedule many appointments. But at least this was the last one… Finally.
Adam set the camera on the dresser that was to the side of the bed. In this summer season, three am looked bright, dawn creeping in through the edges of the window, around the curtains. The sky was a light indigo even though it was three am, and it seemed like the sun was about to rise some time soon.
Adam turned away from the dresser and spotted you asleep on the bed, facing him, on your right side. You looked so lovely in the dim light, your face peaceful, humble, innocent. Your eyelids fluttered slightly over and over. Adam wondered what you were seeing, what you were dreaming about. It didn’t seem like it was hellish.
He smiled at the sight of his significant other. The light drew circles on your skin and cast shadows over certain places, making an intricate picture of darkness and lightness. He took in your body shape through the tight bed covers. All the right indents and muscles portrayed through them. Your breathing was gentle and delicate. Your belly rose and fell smoothly.
Adam knelt down by the bed to look into your sleeping face. It was impossible that you didn’t know he was there. All it took was an easy action of opening your eyes, but that would never happen because you were asleep. You didn’t know he was there at all. It was weird knowing that you wouldn’t open your eyes even though Adam was staring at you.
He eyed your thin lips, and had to refrain from kissing them. They were so lonely and unsuspecting, perfect for kissing. But he knew better than to wake you up. Your cheeks were not flushed like they were during the day and your hair was not combed like it was during the day. Your hair was messy but he liked it. Your perfectionism never allowed you to have a bed head sometimes, but Adam thought it was satisfying to see it all messed up.
Stanheight liked how you looked in this moment a lot… in more ways than one. Stooping, Adam pressed a soft kiss to your forehead. You snuggled closer to your pillow, and Adam sighed. He noticed your lips again, and how close they were to his. It was driving him mad, almost. Those perfect lips, the ones that greeted him everytime he came home from work. The ones that opened for him every time before bed. The ones that always told him they loved him. Without stopping to think he dropped his mouth to yours. Slowly, carefully, so as to not disturb you, Adam kissed you lamely. It was lame because the other half wasn’t recuperating.
The swirling feelings of kissing you were dull but there nonetheless. He loved every moment of it. Your warm, soft, mouth on his mouth made him happy. Then Adam leaned back, feeling somewhat satisfied. He had done what he had wanted to do, so he was happy now.
Adam combed his fingers through your (favorite color) hair. You had dyed it recently and it looked absolutely stunning. The dye was good, too. A week in and it wasn’t even washing out! Sometimes he could still smell the dye’s perfume. He admired the color on you for a little while. It suited you quite well.
You stuck an arm out of the blankets abruptly, causing Adam to lurch backwards. He was trying not to wake you, even if it didn’t look like it. You were just so vulnerable. He never ever got to see you like that. That was what made this moment so special. He trailed a hand down your shoulder all the way to your wrist, where he took hold of your hand.
For a moment his jeans felt heavy, like there was a sharp rock in his pocket. He could envision the white ring on your finger, shining magnificently. You, all dressed in white silks. The veil over your face, having to lift it up so that he could kiss you.
Your hands were a little sweaty from being under the blankets for so long.
Stanheight cupped your cheek and you leaned further into the pillow. Quickly, Adam pulled away. He was sure he would wake you up, if he kept doing this. You just looked so touchable. It was night’s like these, that Adam lost all sense of self-control. But he would never hurt you. Nothing like that!
He reached into his pocket and pulled out the object currently causing him the most discomfort. It was small and white, it glittered whenever the moonlight struck it the right way. He eyed it nervously, and rolled it between his pointer finger and his thumb. It was heavy too, he hoped you wouldn’t mind that. It was the one that made him think of you the most.
He held it up to his left eye so that he could see through the hole of the ring. There you were at the center, just like you always would be, because you were the center of his world. He needed you.
You didn’t know about the ring yet. He had been too nervous to ask you. All his friends were yelling at him for that. At least they hadn’t spoiled the surprise to Y/N yet.
Adam crept up behind you on the bed and slightly maneuvered around you till he was comfortable, then he closed his eyes, and breathed in your sweet, feathery, scent. He tucked the ring back into his pocket, and put his forehead on your back, wrapping his arms around your waist. Maybe tomorrow would be the day? He could feel your breaths, it made him calm. He breathed with you.
Adam nuzzled your neck pleasantly as the light grew brighter around the high-hanging curtains. Your skin was like cotton to his touch. Your hair was as wavy as the cotton fields, and your breath was as slow and magical like the breeze blowing through. Something about it was melodic and rhythmic. So perfect for him.
“I love you, Y/N,” he murmured into your hair.
Slowly, as time ticked by, - it was four at this point - Adam was able to fall asleep, curled up next to your warm, healthy body, dreaming of you and all the mischief the two of you’d get into. Stars and galaxies exploding into one another. Madness. Brilliance. Overlapping timelines. Hot and heavy, romantic pleasantries. All in all, it was a wonderful sight to see; a ridiculous rollercoaster ride - mostly nonsensical. If only YOU could’ve been there to share it with him.
