In DA2 Alistair said that dalish living in their own lands didn't work because people were complaining. Now, forgetting that my baby Alistair broke the only thing Mahariel asked after she saved his ass... Who the fuck would be threatening HoF's clan?
What stupid human woke up one day and said: remember Warden Commander? The bitch who killed and Archidemon and command a hole army against the dark spawn and murder Loghain just because her friend asked her to? Yeah, I don't think her people should have lands. Specially considering Ashalle is in Ostagar, did Alistair heard that poor woman being happy for having her own house and said fuck her?
I think it's good Aveline never met the HoF, she would be tremendously disappointed to see the greatest hero of all being an edgy teenager with no respect for authority.

Mahariel: Well I really wanted to killed off all those bitches and let the mage be free but Alistair said it was bad.

After loosing an important amount of money at Wicked Grace Anders decided he was done loosing at Varric. He started saying all the crazy stuff he did with the HoF, her fears, her weird dreams, and told him about her relationship with King Alistair.
At first Varric was surprised about Anders behavior,but then he was confused and inevitably he asked: why are you telling me this blondie?
And Anders got really close to him when he whispered: because no one would ever believe
Varric: you bastard!!
Anders tried to understand how Merrill became a blood mage, so he asks her about her people. He regret it as soon as she said I am from Clan Sabrae and... Of course, her stupidity couldn't have come from something else
He stood there grasping that somewhere of Kirkwall lived a bunch of elf who created two of the most reckless and stubborn beings on Thedas.

Unfortunately Wynne was right.
It's a wardens duty to recruit as many people as they can during the blight yet Mahariel chose to kill Loghain, why? Because Alistair asked her to.
This created a chain of events that led to them being the only wardens in all Ferelden. Forcing them to decide who was going to die.
It's a wardens duty to kill the Archidemon and die for the wellbeing of all yet Alistair did the dark ritual, why? Because Mahariel asked him to.
Solas has Mythal's and an ancient god's powers, and why is that? Because the last wardens of Ferelden chose love over duty.
Eamon: Hero of Ferelden I thank you for all you did for us, may I asked you what you're going to do now?
Mahariel: I'm gonna have sex, lots of it.

Personal headcanon:
Tamlen was going to propose to Mahariel the day he died, he was so eager to gain Marethari favor because he wanted her blessing.
Mahariel, to this day, can't look herself on a mirror.
Bevin became some sort of adopted son to Mahariel and Alistair.
Teagen is now the one who takes care of the group, even now that they are older.
Fenris took Hawke's name.
Anders ist in really good terms with Clan Sabrae.
Although Anders hates Merrill he tells her about Mahariel and how she is now. He feels he needs to shared with her.
Sabrae Clan joined Lavellan's Clan.
Cullen took his wife name and is a stay-at-home husband.
Cassandra has finally gather the courage to talk to Avelina and has asked her signature.
What the Warden actually said to the Inquisitor:

What in the actual f*ck? I leave Ferelden for 2 min and everything goes wrong? Screw you guys, unless Alistair is in danger I'm not coming back (leave him alone, he has gone through enough pain). I'm sick of these, I have already save this stupid world.
Wardens have their own problems, I gotta save my people, so tell you people to put their big girl pants on a deal with these Corifeus by themselves. I didn't receive any help when the Blight started.
Even if I wanted to help I don't know shit about grey wardens, Duncan gave me some expired demon juice and threw me into the battlefield. To these day I can't remember if our motto starts with in peace or in death.
So yeah, good luck with the shemlen and the Chantry. Say hi to Leliana, tell Morrigan I hope she died and congratulate Cullen about finally doing the right thing.

From Warden-Commander Mahariel
Even for Mahariel the wardens were the worst fate. All Mahariel knows is that because of her stupidity Tamlen died and now she can't even join him in the after life. Once the dalish dies they reunite with their love ones, she probably thought that at least her tree and Tamlen's would grown together.
But not anymore, Duncan extended her life, force her to become a warden and fight for a war she didn't understand.
I like to think they talk about it, Mahariel told him how much she hated him and Alistair told her what he meant to him, but they also admitted that they can both thanked Duncan for putting them in each other path.
A thing that I find really fascinating about Alistair and the Warden's dynamic is how for Alistair becoming a Warden was the best thing that could have ever happened to him, but it's very easy to have a Warden for whom it ruined their life.
Like, the only Warden who absolutely had to become a Warden or they would die is Mahariel, because the Joining was the only thing that would stop the Blight from killing them. Some of the others needed rescue, but Duncan could've "conscripted" them and then let them go free once they were away from the people threatening them. Some of them would've been in trouble if left on their own, but the Wardens weren't the only group that could've helped them! It's possible to play a Warden who absolutely wants to be a Grey Warden, but it's just as easy to portray them as a frightened, desperate victim of circumstance getting press-ganged into the Wardens by the man who in that moment has a huge amount of power over them. The Warden can say no... but they don't really have a choice.
Meanwhile for Alistair, Duncan absolutely saved him. He hated the Templars and the Wardens were a dream come true for him. But that creates a situation where you can have this massive disconnect between him and the Warden, because for him the Wardens were his salvation but it's very easy for the Warden to view it as a fate worse than death, and we never really get a chance to get into that conversation with him. Which is like... I would've loved to really get into that with Alistair! It would've been fascinating to hear Alistair's near-worship of Duncan and respond to it with "He ruined my life, I didn't want to be a Warden and he made me do it anyway". And I do wonder if sparing Loghain might have been gone over somewhat better if we were able to have that conversation with Alistair before that point? Because Alistair has this very firm image of the Wardens as heroes because he views Duncan as a hero, and the image of joining the Wardens as a reward when... yeah, for most people being dragged into a secretive society that worships self-sacrifice and that will ultimately kill them is very much not a reward. It is better than the Templars! But it's not something most people would want. So Alistair is looking at you sparing Loghain and going "You're rewarding him for what he did", but for any Warden who wasn't super into joining the Wardens it's more... this is a punishment for Loghain. This isn't something he wants. He's being sentenced to serve the organization he betrayed until the day he dies, and from the way Riordan talks about it it seems pretty clear to me that his intent was basically "If I can't kill the Archdemon, these two young adults should not be the ones to die for the world"? The intent in putting Loghain through the Joining is to have a convenient sacrifice to throw onto the fire, not to spare him or reward him. From what people have said Alistair is less angry with you if you sacrifice Loghain, which suggests that in hindsight and with the knowledge of how killing the Archdemon works he does understand that joining the Wardens was not a reward for Loghain? But it's a little sad that there's no equivalent realization if you don't sacrifice anyone, so if you choose to go through with the ritual after sparing Loghain Alistair just... continues to be angry with the Warden for keeping Loghain alive. I don't know if it's ever even confirmed that he was told about how the Warden who lands the final blow dies. Although he does seem to have relaxed about it by the time of Awakening.
I wonder if a Warden who was forced into the Wardens by Duncan ever explained that to Alistair, though. Because the disconnect between Alistair worshipping Duncan for saving him and a Warden who loathes the man for forcing them into a situation they never wanted to be in against their will on pain of death is fascinating to me.

Mahariel: it's called respect, he is an authority figure.
Cole: you don't follow the authorities and you don't see him like that.
Mahariel: what's your point kid? He is the king of Ferelden after all.
Cole: you don't focus on the "king" part, it's the "my" you give importance. My king, my, my, mine... You repeat it in your head hoping someday he'll be finally yours.
Mahariel: I kindly suggest you to keep your mouth shut.
How much time passed between Anders blowing out the Chantry and HoF leaving to look for a cure?

I just love Cassandra in my canon state world because my babygirl seems to have looked in the Anders and mage rights fan club to find a leader for her pro Chantry organization.
And it's so fun to think why she thought that was a good move, like what was she planning to do once Hawke or the HoF named Anders their political embassador?
