"See? I knew this would happen eventually. I should have warned you right from the moment you refused to kill me. It was inevitable."

scenery in Dragon Age : Origins - 3 / ∞ The Denerim Alienage
Long ago , the elves lived as slaves to humans , and though they’ve been free for many generations now , they are far from equals . Here they live in walled - off community known as the Alienage working as servants and laborers when they can . Despite these hardships , Denerim’s elves are a strong people who take pride in their close community . This is the only world you’ve ever known … until now .

The party slowly winds down in Denerim’s Alienage…
Commission of Cress Tabris and Alistair for @kadaransmuggler!

Little sketch of my elven cinnamon roll (which can kill you, of course)
I believe that the only reason writers are now denying the parallel between the Dalish and indigenous people( or any other marginalized culture) is to avoid being called racist for all the colonizer narrative of DAI.
Turns out I was right:

"You killed them didn't you? You killed them all."

In other words, the city elf origin is one of the most brutal things in dragon age.

“Do you wear it because you still love him?”
“No. I never loved him.”
“Then...why?”
“When we were taken to Kendall’s estate, Nelaros could have gone home. We had only just met. The wedding was interrupted. He owed me nothing. And yet, when my own alienage was resigned to leave us for dead, he convinced them to fight for us. For me. I don’t think he had ever picked up a sword in his life, and still he came. He came, and he died.
All my life, I have worked to protect what is mine. My family, my alienage, my people. That’s it. So if I am to do this, if I am to be a grey warden, if I am to fight and die for this world of strangers that doesn’t give one sodding shit about me—I need to keep him close."

tabris spending most of the game thinking their family could very well be dead between the purge, the plague and being literally locked in the alienage for months vs tabris's family believing them to be dead most of the game because all of the "grey wardens died at ostagar" and there was no way to know otherwise.
Omg this is so good!!!
