"One day you’ll be in love with me." (Any au and any character you like!🥰) - @homelander-rp-blog
Gracie snorted. She couldn’t help herself. It was a pretty cocky statement. Most men had that kind of cockiness to them, especially firefighters and cops. The job just amplified it for some reason.
"You seem pretty sure of yourself, John."
"And in all the time you've been asking me out, have I ever said yes?" She liked John well enough, and she knew people often dated people they met through work.
"I've been a little too busy lately to date."

"You seem pretty sure of yourself, John."
Gracie rolled her eyes and was about to shoot back another retort, when duty called.
Jumping into action, Gracie took over the frantic mother an turned to John. Him standing here wasn't going to help anybody or calm down the woman, Gracie could take care of things here while John took care of looking for the daughter.
"You pass on the message to the rescue team, I got her."

Cops as a rule, did not like Emma.
For obvious reasons but also some cops also didn't like the way Emma got her marks to pay up.
Emma had gotten good at recognizing a cop though, there was something about the swagger, and the guy sitting next to her at he bar was one hundred percent, without a doubt, a cop.
Emma sipped her drink, hopping the very obvious cop wouldn't pay attention to her.
"I could use the caffeine. Still got a lot of shift left." Gracie saw the way he looked her over, her jaw set.
"Hey, Vogelbaum. My eyes are up here." Gracie wasn't stupid, people had looked at her like that for years.
But being looked at like a piece of meat never impressed her much.
"Maybe if you didn't leer at women, they'd actually go out with you."
Gracie rolled her eyes and was about to shoot back another retort, when duty called.

"You pass on the message to the rescue team, I got her."
Well, shit.
Emma quickly masked her grimace and turned to the obvious cop offering to buy her a drink.
"No thank you, I've got it." Her tone is neutral, she doesn't smile but doesn't glare either.
Just basic courtesy.

𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐬. it didn't matter how smart, powerful and capable she was, homelander still held all the power and her daughter would be real danger no matter what she did. the threats towards zoe made her blood boil, her heart pound in her chest out of fear and she tried her best to not let it show as she looks up at him as he steps towards her. but his words struck a chord and despite not wanting to look away, she finally looked down, teeth pulling on her bottom lip and she had just gone from being under stan edgar's control to being 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐤 under homelander. victoria had never felt so trapped and she was in a cage of her own decision. though if he had any ideas of what this was going to look like, he needed to have another think because she would not be the dutiful wife who did whatever her husband wanted, at least not in the way he was probably expecting. but she knew she was going to have to be smart about this. she wouldn't risk zoe and she would do 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 to keep her safe, she had already proven that and it was her duty as a mother to make sure zoe didn't end up hurt, " please leave zoe out of this. i'll do anything for her, just . . . leave her alone. i'm asking nicely, " she's not quite begging but it's almost there and she thinks it's unlikely he will even listen. homelander is a rabid dog off leash and she had no control or way to stop him. victoria knew she was going to have to come up with a new tactic, she couldn't threaten him and throw her strength around, she needed to 𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭 if she wanted to survive this and keep her daughter safe. once alone, she let out a deep breath, hand coming up to wipe the stray tear slipping down her cheek. she was smarter than this, she needed to get it together and find a way to manage him. running her hands over her dark hair, willing herself to calm down, she couldn't go out there like this, she would lose control and that was the last thing she needed. forcing a smile on her face, she steps out of the room, not even appearing to be shaken. if this was the game he wanted to play, she was going to find a new way to win.
Homelander can't help, mocking this display of faux power of her to be bold enough to stand in front of him, rolling his eyes "yeah, yeah.. good for us, yay" he raises a weak fist "my dear Victoria, no need to get your panties in a twist because I can assure you if you won't do as I say, your dear Zoe won't see the next day. is that enough threat or do you want me to sign up somewhere to publish it formally? hm?" he takes a step forward in her space, raising a hand "now shut up and listen, if I'm ought to go down, I'll take everyone I know down with me. I'm done playing nice to you or anybody else, you're only making a joke of yourself standing against me here- I don't even know why we're having this conversation! you're my puppet, Victoria and I move you how I want, how I wish to win this little game. all you have to do is sit back, looking pretty and obey, shouldn't be hard, no? seeing you're a woman, that's what you all are good at, no? sit back, following husband's order and spread your legs whenever the male wants. you belong between trashes and if it wasn't for me.. you wouldn't be here at all!" he's panting, foaming at the mouth when finishing his speech, eyes shining like crazy berserk and next second it's all gone and that polite picture is taking its place. he smiles softly, tone changed from maniacally up and down to calm and calculated. "spring wedding will be nice, Vought'll take care of the ceremony and I can and will wear whatever I want, dear future wife.." his smile sharp. "now, if you excuse me.. I shouldn't leave the press waiting for me.." he brushes past Victoria, his cape swishing at her and he's gone before giving her anything other than a "I'll drop by to see Zoe tonight.." and he's out of the room.
𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠. though she had to admit that it was incredibly satisfying to see him almost begging her for a place amongst her group. arms fold across her chest, blue eyes flicking over him once, a smirk pulling at her lips, " seems to be quite the pattern with you - all your groups fall to shit. maybe you're the rebel and now you're cryin' out for protection 'cause your games being caught onto, " the last thing she needed right now was more trouble. he was right about one thing, these lands were dangerous and she had to be careful with who she chose to put her trust in. a while back, she would've never doubted if she could trust john. but these days? she would be stupid to allow herself to get burnt again, " you're not exactly the right type of stray, you're gonna stick out like a sore thumb amongst my group of girls, " maggie admits, except she hates that he's right about one thing, she wouldn't want his blood on her hands especially if he was 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, begging for help. sighing softly, hand running through red hair as she looks away for a moment before looking back at him, " fine. you can stick around for now. i'll get my girls to find a few other guys that we can trust, so you don't look so obvious, " she relents, hoping this wouldn't be a decision that she came to regret. she just hoped he wouldn't bring more trouble to her door, she had her own stuff to deal with than cleaning up john's mess. stepping towards him, hands moving to rest on her hips, " but you're not in charge here, john. you're gonna listen to me, got it? "
"no, I don't care" his grin widening shamelessly "but I'm not here for a chit chat about her either, come on.. it all is getting boring" because he still sees that said girlfriend as his rivalry until he sees her lifeless corpse burning in flames, he still has soft spot for Maeve and hearing she's dating again was painful for him.. "ah" he clicks his tongue "no, I wouldn't. but the thing is, my previous gang. we had a rebel between us that killed the leader and I got lucky when I ran away from them, you know how cruel life is in these lands, I need to hook on some group to survive so here's my offer, let me join your team, Maggie. you won't regret it" he lowers his hands slowly, wipes at the sweat beading on his forehead "heard you gave home to few strays, one more wouldn't be such burden, eh? I can pull my weight if that's the case.. if the answer is still a 'no', then maybe let me ride with your team until we reach another group's place, I can't be out here alone.. scavengers are everywhere and you don't want your old friend's blood on your hand, do you?"
𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐰. she hoped that it looked more like a divide and conquer scenario with the press, rather than her not wanting to be anywhere near him right now. it gave her time to think of a new strategy when it came to homelander, threats had only gotten the one person she loves put at risk and she would do anything to make zoe was always safe. she needed to figure out another way to work him, to give him what he wanted and find a way to keep him in line without putting people she loves at risk. victoria answered questions about a wedding she had 𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 in planning, but she gave the press exactly what they wanted and she knew that she could at least stay in control this way. homelander was a different issue and she just to figure out exactly what it was he wanted more than power.
𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤, glad that the wedding talk had stopped and she could talk about politics in a way that made her feel a little more in control again. she no longer felt rattled and she no longer felt like she was losing something she couldn't afford to lose. yet she has to try not to stiffen when she feels him touch her arm, forcing a smile on her face as she looked up at him and there it was. he kept focusing on her daughter, on her 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 and she knew exactly what he needed. love and attention. she may have just figured out how exactly to get an upper hand on him, she had to start small and make it seem like she was just doing as she was told. nodding her head, she looks at him, " of course, it's time we make our move home, " after saying a few goodbyes to people that mattered, seeing her security detail following them towards her car to take her home, finding herself almost 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 with him knowing her secuity wouldn't dare approach homelander. stopping for a moment, her hand moving to touch his arm to get him to look at her, " i wanted to apologise for earlier. i was out of line and it won't happen again, " victoria was almost surprised by how sincere she sounded as she looked up at him, " i'm sorry. if this is going to work, we need to try and get along, right? we can't be fighting and then acting like everything is okay in front of people, i'm not gonna be able to do that, " she wasn't an actor, she wasn't used to being told what she should say, talking points was one thing, being scripted was another. but she refused to let herself feel that scared again, she couldn't do it and she had to hope that this new way of handling him actually worked, " how about you come over for dinner tomorrow evening? i'm pretty good cook and we can discuss how this going to work moving forward, "
The rest of the event goes smoothly without Victoria trying to corner him again, he keeps an eyes on her just in case she wants to go rebel again or say something she'll regret later though he knows that she knows it's to her benefit if she keeps her mouth shut, after all he did threaten her little daughter, why no one can do things he just tell them to?! Is it too hard to follow a simple order? John feels like a kid that being deprived of a toy and now that they give him the same toy, he doesn’t want to play with it anymore, hard to keep him interested for a long time, he loses interest in Victoria the second the reporters bring up the wedding plan again. He forces a wide smile, eyebrows shooting up, fauxing surprised "it's all up to our dear bride, but yeah, probably spring!" All this social interactions bored him and he feels exhausted already, maybe it isn't too bad reading from a script?
It's still close to ten when he decides he had enough and wants out. Politely excusing himself in middle of a political talk with some thinks-he's-big-name and goes to find his future wife, Victoria. Touching her arm gently and he thinks with himself that he has to get her a ring soon if he wants others to buy their story better, maybe he'll regret it in future, who knows. "Dear, we have to go now, Zoe is alone at home.." He whispers to her but loud enough that few people standing too close can hear him, there are 'aww' s spreading between the crowd, they think what a kind and caring husband he is, and a nice father to little Zoe, too. He hopes she gets the signal and just follow him outside, he's tired of standing around and looking useless and he doesn't care if she's having an important conversation now.
