I mean, they all can't feel, one way or the other.
Flowey and Ink can't because they're soulless, Fresh can't for reasons I don't know [I'm guessing he's either very emotionally underdeveloped, or, because he has lived with fear as his main and most important instinct since his creation that, in his pursuit for survival, everything else has been unintentionally shoved way back where he can't feel it], and Killer can't feel because of Soul Shenanigans. And they all make up for it with a facade of cheer, which they accomplish through different means.
But something I find interesting is their intentions behind the facade.
Fresh and Flowey both keep up their cheerful facade to lower the guard of whoever they're interacting with. They want the other person less wary because Flowey wants new things/more information/different games, and Fresh wants a new host so he can continue his existence.
I haven't read the Something New comic, but I'm guessing Killer keeps his facade up as a coping mechanism/distraction from The Horrors.
And Ink drinks his paints because he cannot stand the feeling of feeling nothing. Of being nothing, comatose in a colorless state. But another reason why he does it is so he can pass as having a soul [this fact is canon and is on comyet's FAQ Ink page]
There are definitely connections. But there are many differences in the similarities that are fun to think about.
My brain has been trying to make a connection between Fresh, Ink, Killer and Flowey. THERE'S SOMETHING THERE I SWEAR!!!
Warning: rant below. Sorry, I couldn't resist X,D
Huh. I never thought about that before. One would think that he'd choose small bodies, to more effectively lower the guard of those he meets. Because some people often find tall strangers a bit scary, or are at least a bit wary of them. I wonder why he chooses tall bodies anyway?
Maybe because he thinks it's comforting to others? Like, as a small parasite who takes bodies, maybe he finds tall people reassuring to be around. Because in the back of his mind he knows that, in a pinch, he can snatch it up and be better protected. Maybe he doesn't understand that that's not a universal experience/instinct.
CQ has said before that Fresh is oblivious to what makes normal folks feel certain emotions. He has a 90's persona because he thinks others find it charming and non-threatening. He's out of the loop by a lot, so something like this wouldn't be outside of the realm of possibility.
okay so fresh is tall (according to cq: "pretty dang tall" and "kinda towers over people") and sans is. short. as are most sans aus. do you guys think fresh specifically looks for taller sanses to take over.
fresh belongs to @/loverofpiggies
original picture under the cut. also a non-text version of the art.
I kind of think Dream might be a bit wary constant kindness he's shown throughout the multiverse. Because people were so nice to him in the village, but look what they did to Nightmare behind his back. Such two-faced behavior is a pretty large and harsh thing to witness when you're young, and maybe it stuck with him.
There's also the question, the underlying thought of 'Do they like me? Or do they just like how nice I make them feel?'
I don't know if those things are canon, they're just some things that I thought Dream might potentially experience.
I really like your analysis on Dust and Dream and how they would interact! I honestly don't know much about Dust's personality or his beliefs. It's nice to know more :3
Know I love thinking about characters who I don't really see together
Like, tf Color and Error think of each other. I mean how much of an AT is too much for Error? Like if its an AT turned to an A like is he chill for a sec and then not? Tf Color think of him?
Killer and Epic would be a funny duo maybe, but not necessarily for the reasons one may think.
What are the one-on-one dynamics of the epic sanses like?
Dream and Horror?? or Dust??
Outer or Birdtale and literally anyone? LMAO
(feel free to add if you wanna I like talking LMAOO)
I'm thinking of an Integrity human that is so true to their beliefs that they never sway from them, even at the sake of their own morals and/or the health of others. They try to do the right thing, as that is what they believe in, but sometimes the health of others in certain situations doesn't align with what they think is the right thing.
They may sympathize with others, they may understand that everything isn't black and white, but they can't bring themselves to swerve from what they think is Right.
And Perseverance. Maybe they aren't action oriented, even when situations call for it. Maybe they would rather hide/ride out the bad things, enduring it instead of fighting.
Maybe Bravery has no fear in situations they can't handle, and as a result is disadvantaged just because of their misjudgment in their capabilities.
I think these are pretty interesting. You can do a lot with characters like these.
Transcript: More people should make the fallen humans kinda assholes (NOT GENOCIDAL LIKE FANON CHARA) but more like susie and beardly. personally i think all the humans could save & reset and that they all ended their 'runs' on a pacifist but i like depictions where they are snarky and upset at the situation they are in. For example, Justice can be judgmental, Patience can be stubborn, Integrity can be self-serving, Bravery can be an adreneline junkie, Perseverence can be a bystander, and Kindness can be blunt & passive aggressive.
i feel like this fandom only lets Integrity and Bravery be the asshole kids while making the other souls very nice in comparison and its always fallen flat to me. if Chara and Frisk get to be morally grey then i think the rest of them should be too. LET KINDESS SAY FUCK! YOU CAN BE A NICE PERSON WHILE STILL BEING AN ASSHOLE IN QUIET!
like they all are implied to have done MULTIPLE resets and like Flowey and Us i can see them each independently getting curious about what would happen if they were meaner or more violent (i do think all of them killed at least one monster on their first 'playthroughs' either on accident(integrity) or purpose (patience)
I was thinking of Color doing something like painting a small heart on a bone with nail polish and re-doing it every time it flakes. Of course, this could lead to some dependancy on the action. When it chips and Color doesn't happen to be around at the moment to paint it back on, Killer might either think it means Color doesn't love him, or he might think that now the good mark has worn away, the bad marks in his bones are stronger and have more power over him. Maybe both.
Maybe an item of clothing?
Or maybe Color could give him a kiss and claim that the love in it won't go away. I think that would lead to the least issues.
You know, one of my favorite headcanons is that Nightmare's and Dream's Negativity and Positivity auras cause permanent damage to the soul if used too frequently.
My thought process about it is literally just that they function basically as extraneous bodies influencing the soul from the inside. Meaning that, with enough exposure, an actual extraneous residue can remain inside the soul. It's basically like an incurable infection.
Now, imagine this applied to Killer. Killer who probably chased after the feelings of the aura at least at first because sometimes he needs to feel literally anything at all to not lose it (and because the pain that came after the high was grounding and 'fun' in the way he's been conditioned to regard all pain).
And imagine him after running away from Nightmare and finally finding a a safe space with Color only to be hit with the realization that both of the ones who destroyed him left permanent marks on him (Chara with the very shape of his soul, and Nightmare with the black sludge he can never wash away flowing just below the surface). Imagine Color having to gently but firmly refuse to leave a mark of his own. Because that's not gonna make anything better, not really, it's only gonna hurt Killer further. But Killer insists that he needs it, he needs at least one mark that is from something good- from someone good.
Just, hhhhhhhhhhh, the possibilities for angst with this are so many
I love that headcanon, and the thought of that is kinda sad.
It reminds me of this little comic I came across like a year or two ago where Killer carved Color’s name into his wrist. It was for different reasons, i believe it was because Killer couldn’t think of another way to show Color that he loved him other than to leave something of Color on him permanently and that way he’d never forget him.
I wonder what kind of marking(s) Killer would be looking for here, what he’d be willing to settle for, how desperate would he get and how far would he be willing to go to get what he wants from Color.
Does it need to be something permanent, something small and easily hidden or something big enough to notice? Can it be temporary but frequent, like bite or scratch marks? Would he try to get color to fight and bruise him up. Would he find a way to leave color’s mark on him himself. Would something like a collar from Color or with something that links back to Color work, if it’s not exactly what he wants.
I’d imagine the thought of being marked again, even if by Color, would cause some major conflict between his stages—his dissociative parts, causing a lot of confusion and disturbance.
The body may have been conditioned to enjoy pain and torture, especially in Stage 2, but doesn’t mean Killer wants it or even can mentally or emotionally handle it in other Stages.
If Color marks him in a permanent painful way, somewhere deep down it’d register as a betrayal to Killer—and if Color doesn’t do something, there’s a risk of feeling misunderstood and maybe even rejected—leading to distancing if Color doesn’t approach the subject carefully.
Color is in a very delicate situation, and he has to make a choice or a compromise if he’s willing, but he also has to be prepared for any consequences or pushback that would come from refusing—which he is of course allowed to do.
I can see him being willing to find a safer alternative or compromise, and Killer is going to have to accept that one way or another—no matter how may push at the lines, keep trying to convince Color. And even if he may come very close to straight up begging—trying to convince Color that it’d be good, he can take it, it’s just once, he trusts him, yada yada.
Cause at the end of the day, Color can tell this request is coming from a place of fear and self dehumanization, a need for security and reassurance that Color is willing to give him in safer ways, not a genuine want.

I've noticed that everyone online has gotten kind of defensive and insecure about things. I think issues irl are getting to people a lot, both big and small, and it's making them more tightly wound with smaller stuff.
When everything feels like a big important problem, it's harder to tell when something is actually a small issue.
Transcript: I am tired of people being so uptight about opinions
Actually nevermind let me change that... I'm tired of people being so rude about opinions. I understand being mad at gross + problematic opinions - I get mad at stuff like that too, (as you should...in my opinion...) but !! silly headcanons?
As long as they're not diminishing a character, there's no reason to be vocal about how 'stupid' it is. Nobody cares just shut up tbh . . . like in a discord server someone was like 'hehe silly headcanon!' and everyone was so rude and they slowly kinda exited the conversation, I felt so bad

Both Error and Ink think of other people as characters, and think themselves above them. For Ink, this causes him to not care about their suffering, focusing more on the story aspect of things and admiring it. For Error, this causes him to think that he can decide their fates, and that he is exempt from the way he treats AUs despite being an 'anomaly' himself.
[May not be accurate, I can't remember if it is canon or not. I just like thinking about similarities. People talk about how they're opposites but they're really more similar than I originally thought. It's interesting.]
[I know I'm probably just saying the obvious, but I just wanted to talk about Dust]
I think that to get to the point where Dust ends up, he would have to start seeing living as... something bigger than the things and people he cares about. An endless fight against something invincible. Where death is just something that comes before another try.
And what is his goal? For the resets to end with the human? But then he would be left alone in a dusty underground. It's interesting to think about how much he's changed, that that ending for himself is the most appealing one. Or maybe that's the only ending he can see himself having.
