"How long are you going to wait for him?"

Juvia blinked in surprise, turning her head towards the unexpected voice. Laxus was leaning against the bar counter beside her, his eyes focused on his half-empty glass. Though they were on the same team, they had barely spoken since the beginning of the games. Now that she thought about it, they hadn't had any real interactions since she had joined the guild. She tilted her head, observing him. He didn’t look drunk, maybe a bit annoyed. But then, Laxus always looked annoyed.

"Let me buy you a drink," he said, waving a hand to the barman. Before she could protest, a fresh cocktail appeared before her. She blushed deeply, she knew Laxus was just a teammate, and that he was doing it out of kindness, but no one had ever bought her a drink. She quickly glanced back at Gray with apprehension, worried he could misinterpret such an innocent gesture, but her beloved was happily engrossed in conversation with Cana, his attention anywhere but on her. As always. She sighed, her chest heavy with sadness.

"So?" Laxus persisted, his tone softer this time. "Are you going to wait for him forever?"

She had almost forgotten about the man at her side. She saw him nudge the cocktail in her direction and, this time, she accepted it with both hands. He was looking at her, an amused smirk on his lips, and Juvia hid behind the glass, taking a sip. It was bitter, and it made her grimace, which earned her a chuckle.

"Gray-sama is worth waiting for," she replied after a few seconds, her eyes fixed on her drink, while his had never left her. 

"If you say so..." Laxus finished his beer in one swift gulp and shook his head. "You’re too pretty for him anyway."

He tossed a handful of coins onto the counter and left. She sat there, stunned, her cheeks flushing a deep red. That night, for once, she barely thought about Gray.
