Prompt - ‘I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey.’

Part One here but you can read this as a one shot

You and Matthew seemed to be talking constantly since your first date and you couldn’t wait for the second. Apparently neither could the fans who were still going crazy over the pictures that somebody had taken of the two of you. Every single time you opened any social media platform you were guaranteed to see those photos and each time they made you so unbelievably giddy.

Halloween couldn’t come soon enough, you were counting down the days until you could see Matthew again. A part of you was surprised by how quickly you had started to like him, sure you were talking to him for a while over instagram but you’d only met him once and you were so far gone for him. There was just something about him that was so unique that you couldn’t help it.

On the 31st October you woke up with butterflies in your stomach, those butterflies only intensified once you saw Matthew had uploaded an Instagram post…it was of you.

There you were sitting in the wheelbarrow, it was a different one to the one the fans took. In this one you were surrounded by pumpkins, Matthew’s scarf was wrapped around your neck as you held two mini pumpkins up, one in each hand. Your cheeks were flushed, from the cold or from Matthew’s presence, and there was a glow to your face as you grinned up at Matthew.

The comments were everything you expected them to be. People were loving it, believing this was the confirmation of your relationship.

‘Pumpkins, her, pumpkins.’ The caption read and you couldn’t help but smile shyly down at your phone.

Matthew hadn’t told you where you were going today but he had asked you how you felt about dressing up. That then evolved into a day-long conversation about matching costumes and the two of you eventually settled on Jack and Sally…which meant you had a day of getting ready to look forward to before Matthew came to pick you up.

He told you he’d be at your house at around seven so you spent the morning relaxing before you began to get ready in the afternoon.

‘Happy Halloween!! I can’t wait to see you, I hope you like what I have planned!’

Matthew texted just as you finished with the final touches of make up, you’d really went for it, painting any visible skin blue and adding scars in the right places. You loved Halloween so this was perfect for you.

You and Matthew traded messages back and forth as the two of you prepared for your date.

-

There was a knock on your door just before seven and you couldn’t help but grin as you answered it.

“Wow,” Matthew said before you could say anything, “You look incredible!” He exclaimed, leaning towards you and pulling you in for a hug.

You laughed as you wrapped your arms around him.

“Me?” You said as the two of you pulled away, “Look at you!” Look at him indeed, he looked incredible, face painted perfectly representing a skeleton and the suit hugged him nicely.

“So there’s this party that gets thrown every year,” Matthew said as the two of you pulled up to an ancient looking house. It was large, larger than yours, the exterior was black and orange lights shone through the windows making it perfect for halloween. “It’s really fun but if it’s not your scene then…”

“It looks amazing from out here, I’m excited to see inside.” You said, cutting him off and watching how he grinned.

The two of you made your way inside and it was incredible. The decorations were clearly worth a lot and everything looked so real. Fake blood trickled down the walls, as mist covered everyone's feet, spiderwebs hung from the ceiling and every single person was dressed up, looking amazing.

“Can I get you a drink?” Matthew asked and you nodded, telling him your drink order. He took your hand in his, pulling you gently through the crowd of people as you made your way to the bar.

You were introduced to a few people, people Matthew either knew professionally and a few he was actually friends with as the two of you made your way from the room with the bar in it to a room that was slightly colder, creating a spooky atmosphere. Sat at the table were some skeletons and on a silver platter was a head that looked just a bit too human.

Matthew’s hand was still holding yours, his thumb brushing against your knuckles every so often as he spoke with you.

The two of you spent the night in your own little bubble despite the many, many people at the party. Nothing was pulling either of you away from each other, whether you were sitting down and having drinks together or up dancing with each other.

Right now the two of you were on the dance floor and even though at least thirty other people were there, you only had eyes for each other. You laughed as Matthew spun you around before pulling you close and energetically swaying your bodies together to the beat. By the time the song had ended the two of you were panting for breath but giggling to each other as you moved away.

It was well into the early hours of the morning now and the two of you decided to call it a night. Matthew’s once perfectly applied white face paint was now splotchy at best, some had dripped down his face whilst in other places it had completely come off. You couldn’t imagine what your own blue face paint looked like but you didn’t care, too caught up in Matthew to bother with how your face looked.

Matthew had driven but since the two of you had had a drink you were waiting for a car to pick you up. Standing outside the gates of the house was just the two of you, the night air was exactly what you needed, cold against the heat of the house.

Matthew had his arm wrapped around your shoulder, he had done since you’d left the dance floor and you weren’t complaining. You looked up at the man, he really was beautiful, not just his appearance but…everything. The way he acted like it didn’t matter who was around to judge him, it made you feel like you could be yourself, unapologetically yourself, something that was rare to feel when you worked in the industry you did.

“I’m glad you agreed to come.” He told you. “I know it’s probably strange to admit this considering we’ve only had one date before this but I really like you.”

“It’s not strange,” You said, turning further into him, “I feel the same way.” You confessed.

Matthew smiled down at you, he moved closer to you before pausing.

“Can I kiss you?” He asked quietly, watching you for any sign of uncomfortableness but when you smiled shyly and nodded he didn’t hesitate.

It was a soft kiss, just a brush of lips really. You leaned closer, smiling into the kiss as Matthew deepend it, not much, it was still just an innocent first kiss but the feel of his lips against yours…you couldn’t describe.

The two of you pulled away from each other but didn’t move far as Matthew leaned his forehead against yours, leaving blue face paint on his face.

“I really like you.” He repeated again before leaning down to kiss you again.

“I really like you too.” You giggled, smiling when he leaned in a third time. The two of you pulled away when you heard a car pulling up.

When you were both seated and Matthew had given your address to the driver, he sat back and wrapped his arm around your shoulder. You didn’t hesitate before leaning into him causing him to smile down at you, his hand trailing up and down your upper arm.

“Do I get to know what we’re doing on the third date?” You asked as your eyes fell closed.

Matthew smiled softly down at you, thanking anyone he could think that he had met you.

“You’ll have to wait and see.” He said, causing you to groan jokingly. “It’ll be worth it, I promise.” He told you, pressing a lingering kiss against the top of your head.

By the time the car was pulling up to your house you had ended up drifting off against Matthew who just smiled the entire time.

“Hey, Y/N,” He said softly as he gently shook you. You blinked up at him before looking around and realising where you were.

“Oh,” you said tiredly, “sorry, I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”

“It’s no problem.” Matthew said as he climbed out of the car, holding a hand out for you. He called back for the driver to wait for him before he walked you up to your door.

“Thank you for coming with me tonight.” Matthew said after you opened your door, still holding your hand in his.

“Thank you for inviting me, this was one of the best Halloweens I’ve had in a long while.” You told him truthfully.

“Me too.” He said, slightly shocked to find out how much he meant those words. “You should get some sleep.” He said as he leaned forward, kissing you once more, this kiss somehow more gentler, more softer than the others, causing you to blush slightly.

“I’ll see you soon?” You asked and Matthew nodded, placing a kiss on your forehead before pulling away.

“Soon.” He promised, making you smile up at him. “Goodnight, Y/N.”

“Goodnight Matthew.” You waited until he was back in the car before you shut the front door, leaning against it with a smile.

God, two dates in and you could feel how much you liked him.

The next morning you woke up to the memory of Matthew’s lips against yours and smiled brightly up at the ceiling. You found your phone and somehow smiled wider as you saw Matthew had posted another Instagram.

It was a picture of the pair of you from last night, you remembered Matthew handing his phone to a girl, asking her to take some photos of the two of you together. It was early on in the night so both of your makeup was still intact, Matthew’s hand rested on your waist as you leaned into him.

There were two photos that had been uploaded in the same post, the first one was of the two of you looking at the camera, wide smiles in place and the next was of Matthew still smiling at the camera but you were looking up at him, your smile had softened though it was still just as bright.

The look on your face showed how much you liked Matthew and you couldn’t wait until you saw him again.

‘We can live like Jack and Sally if we want.’

If You Like SPIES ARE FOREVER Or Maybe RICHARD SIKEN, You Would Love My Two-player Tabletop Roleplaying

If you like SPIES ARE FOREVER or maybe RICHARD SIKEN, you would love my two-player tabletop roleplaying game, CONFLICT OF INTEREST.

In a line of work that values separation of the mind and the heart, the brains and the brawn, you have found it within yourselves to, perhaps ill-advisedly, merge the two. Not necessarily in the moments where you’ve got a gun in your hand and blood in your mouth, but in the moments between intense violence and adrenaline where you find calm in the company of one another.

This is a GM-less slice-of-life game for two players. You don’t need any materials to play, other than yourself and someone you trust.

“Conflict of Interest” is a game about intimacy and what it means to hide who you love, built on the Girlfriend Engine created by stargazersasha. Its second edition is releasing in a few months, and I have some other surprises related to it on the way. If you’re interested, you can go check it out at https://barcstravis.itch.io/coi2, or see the original at https://barcstravis.itch.io/conflict-of-interest. I hope you enjoy it!!!!
