Ya know what, I feel like after becoming captain Jake kinda becomes a people pleaser.. like he now feels like he has to live up to this image of the “Great and mighty colossus” and stuff. So he starts over working himself and makes up a WHOLE new personality for anyone who aren’t his crew..
There is this moment in the two part special in season 4 that I feel adds a lot of depth to the grim buccaneer, when Captain Colossus says “I trusted you like a son”
grim stops and mutters that he didn’t know the captain felt that way. Maybe some were down the line Grim felt unimportant to him and that’s why he betrayed him..
It really could of been explored more but it wasn’t

Multiple reason really, abandonment issues, slight paranoia, the fact he feels the need to constantly prove himself and if he thinks he hasn’t everyone will leave him, bad breath etc etc

Headcanon:
Jake has a “suck it up and be nice” sorta mentality.. he’s had this long before becoming captain and when he does become captain it get worse.
He rarely gets pissy with people because of this but one time he was so overwhelmed with stressed he yelled at hook (calling him crocodile food) and immediately felt bad afterwards.
Hook being an ass basically makes Jake feel like the worst piece of shit possible by constantly reminding him about.
Izzy hates it when people underestimate her which happens ALL THE TIME. Almost her whole life she has had to prove herself just to be respected and taken seriously.
So she basically uses most of her time and energy to improve herself to gain more power cause in her mind
